Summary: Follows RGB episode “Janine, You’ve Changed” by J. Michael Straczynski (JMS, da man!) and follows the movie Ghostbusters II by Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis. Overtones of A/U to blend cartoon and movies into one canon.

Disclaimer: A significant amount of lines and scenes are taken from the RGB episode and from the GB2 movie, all with some of my own variations. Arkham, Massachusetts and Miskatonic University are fictional but well known in Sci-Fi circles, having originated in the tales of H.P. Lovecraft. They were featured in a couple RGB episodes too. I wasn’t sure of anyone’s mothers’ given names, so I made them up. As for Ray’s Aunt Lois, I can only assume that her last name was Stantz, making her his paternal aunt. Mrs. Zeddemore never appeared in the series, so I had to improvise her character. The Honorable Marvin Lange and Kelechi Zewditu Bryant are of my own creation and therefore my intellectual property, as is this story. I do not own any of the other characters nor do I profit from their use in this story. No copyright infringement is intended. My purpose is one of philosophical fulfillment: I write, therefore I am.
Author’s Notes: In this episode, the RGB cartoon blatantly alluded to an Egon/Janine ship finally beginning then never went anywhere with it. I loved this episode, because it marked the return of (not(not to mention the fact that the show finally acknowledged that Janine’s voice and appearance changed drastically and often during the run of the show). As for the movie sequel, I loved it (don’t get me wrong) but it was like watching an A/U of the cartoon (out of business for 5 years?? Janine/Louis ship???). I decided to merge the franchises (Aykroyd/Ramis movies & JMS cartoons) for my take on what might’ve happened next. Presume that everyone looks as they do in the RGB series, not the GB movies (except Dana & Oscar, of course, who were never in the cartoon). Big thank you to my beta Kel. “No! Stay back! Stand back!” Janine shouted as Egon ran over to see if she was hurt. She could feel the immense power building, surging through every neuron in her body. She felt like a time-bomb ready to explode. The sensation was so new, both painful and exhiling,ing, like the burning pleasure felt during a virgin’s first taste of physical delights.

The guys pulled Egon away from her as she slowly floated up off the pier, her body ablaze with a flash of white energy. They shielded their eyes against the painfully briilluillumination that engulfed their beloved secretary.

“What’s happening?” Winston shouted over the din.

“She’s changing again!” Egon replied at the top of his voice.

“Into what?” Peter pleaded in disbelief.

“I don’t know!” Egon shouted miserably.

There was a blinding burst of light. Janine’s body glowed less brightly as she drifted back down to terra firma. They all blinked several times to clear the spots that danced in front of their eyes.

“Janine?” Egon questioned uncertainly, still unable to see her clearly.

Janine stood up, grabbing her discarded Ghostbusters varsity jacket. She turned around and slipped into it. Their eyes were now focused and able to see her. She looked exactly the same. Nothing had changed, or at least, so they thought until she spoke. “I’ve decided that I don’t have to be perfect. I don’t have to be something that I’m not. It’s okay to like myself just as I am.”

They all stared at her in shock, speechless. Janine’s voice was so different, but so comfortingly familiar. She once again spoke with the thick Brooklyn accent she’d spoken with all her life until just a few years before. They hadn’t realized until that moment how much they’d missed it.

Janine walked over to Egon and wrapped her arms about his neck, hugging him tightly. He tentatively returned her embrace. “Thanks Egon.” She peered over his shoulder at the others. “All you guys.”

“Anytime,” Ray replied with a wink and a smile. “Listen, we’d better get back to the car before somebody strips it.” He gave a very pointed look to Winston and Peter, who nodded in understanding.

Egon looked at his three colleagues and smiled appreciatively. “You guys n. n. I’ll catch up in a minute.” They left him alone. Peter smirked and gave him a thumbs-up.

Egon exhaled a breath he didn’t know he’d been holding. She was safe. She was in his arms.

And he was never letting go again.
