Jake Long was the American Dragon, which meant that it was his job was to protect the magical creatures living in the city where he lived (or to protect the creatures that were nearby him no matter where he was). He knew he had an obligation to protect the living magical creatures since he was 13 years old when his dragon power first manifested to the point where he could transform into a full dragon. He at first found it a chore to protect the magical creature with all the work that comes with it. Make sure the elves do not fight among each other again, keep the leprechaun's gold safe from harm, protect two oracle twins from danger (while dealing with the visions they both had which Jake is uncomfortable, to say the least…) but he has admittedly grown into it. Adapting to the circumstances that were always before him every single day with the magical community in his job.
Jake could almost say that he enjoyed it…. “almost” being the keyword here.
Looking at the mirror in from of him in a bathroom, Jake took deep breaths in and out. He did his best to make sure that he had convinced himself that he needed to do this and did need to do this, less he wanted to cease to exist. Still, Jake could not believe he was about to commit what most, if not all, would consider being a forbidden taboo that is stunned did not only in the human world but in the magical community as well.
“Everything okay their hon?” The words of his mother broke Jake’s gazed into the mirror as he turned his head toward the door leading the bedroom.
“I got to do this…” He sighed in defeat. Turning away from the mirror, Jake went outside of the bathroom and into the bedroom of his mother, Susan Long…or the younger Susan from the past.”
She gave him a sympathetic smile once she saw him enter the room and Jake gave one back to her to let her know he notices it, “Like to Keep me waiting huh?” He looked over to his mother, who was sitting on her bed in one second then immediately turned away from her due to the slightness of what he saw. The room they were in was her room, and she had everything you would expect from a teenage girl in the 1980s with posters that varied and showcased different stars of different genres such as sports, movies, TV shows, etc, that were known at the time. With some of them still being relevant in jake's present that he quickly noticed when he saw them, the furniture in the room composed of a square mirror, chores that left little to the imagination of what is inside them, a closet that was home to different outfits that were considered “hip” at the moment as well as some clothing that involved some form of Chinese culture whether it be Chinese words on them or other things that Jake wasn’t interested in at the moment. The Walls in the room were painted with a bland color which possibly explains why there were so many posters in the room, along with some form of Chinese culture inside the room as well with some dragon markings. Finally, a bookshelf was in the room that had different objects like books, toys, and some magical artifacts that he didn't recognize, whether it was due to him being from a different time era or him not educating himself about his Chinese heritage and culture. In the end, Jake was clammily surprised at the mixture of American and Chinese culture that was in this room. Or, he would have been if it wasn’t for what he and his mother were about to do tonight
Susan knew that he would be nervous about doing this for the first time, hence why she waited for him while he was inside the bathroom. She understood why he was so nervous doing what they were about to do. And that, in the end, she could not deny it to herself that she was nervous as well. However, she knew that they had to do this, that they needed to spend the rest of the night doing this. There was a form of confidence that formed inside of her as a result of what happened earlier that made it possible for her to be sitting on her bed wearing revealing clothing in front of the man she loved.

Initially, he did not know anything about this as he was never supposed to since, in the original timeline, Susan had chosen to keep the envelope that she was planning to put into Jonathan's locker while he was away from it, meaning Jonathan never knew about his girlfriend’s secret. Until Jake traveled back in time with the use of the Uchrono hourglass, a time travel device with and Fu tagging along in the hopes of trying to convince him to stop his plan of putting the envelope in his father's locker. Unfortunately, Jake remained undeterred and decided to put the envelope into the locker anyway with the hopes that his father would learn about his girlfriend's secret about being dragons would understand and accept it. Then he would go back into the present and not have to lie to his father anymore about the work he does as the American Dragon that also gets him punished despite Jonathan be unaware of what Jake did. His father read the envelope that was in the locker, but unfortunately for Jake, it did not go as he had hoped. Jonathan confronted Susan about the secret and freaked out about it. Aware that his girlfriend was a dragon, he broke up with her, thus endangering the existence of Jake and his daughter Haley in the future.
Jake and Fu dog tried their best to change the past back to what it was by getting the two now exes back together, with Jake getting his mother and Fu luring Jake’s father. Both of them took them to the beach for Hailey's comet, an event that they both originally we at in the hopes of them falling back in love with each other. Unfortunately, the plan failed, with the problem being a whole lot worse for Jake and his sister.
Jake started to panic while Fu dog was thinking of a way to fix the problem that Jake had caused. He knew time was not on his side or Jake’s, and he knew they needed to act fast. The effects of the

Thinking about the possible ways that he could do could help the problem. Fu began to look over to Jake up and down with thoughts in his mind as he realized that his options were limited. However, he did come up with an idea that could work and save his parent’s relationship and their children's lives in a sense. But he was certain Jake was not to like it. “Kid, I think I have an idea to fix all of this.”
Jake quickly took attention to the dog after he heard those words with relieved sigh containment of joy “Ahh man…that great Fu….” relief hit Jake as a small smile showed up on his face. He wished they were a way to change all this, his father not knowing his mother's secret and heritage, his mother and father being together, everything he did before he got to this moment, back to what it once was, and regretted pushing the envelope into the locker. Fu and Jake took Jonathan back over to the shop hoping that he did not wake as part of the plan required him to be unconscious throughout the whole night after barely escaping the Huntsclan a few seconds later after they left. First telling him that he would need to be his father caused him to show the aforementioned confusion and curiosity that would be seen by others on his face. The shock and horror emotions came into play when Jake was told the second part of the plan. To make sure that Susan understands that Jonathan is okay with being together with him despite the secret of her being a part of a long line of dragons by any means necessary, including having sex with her.
Jake did not want to do It. He hoped that there was another way to handle the problem that he caused. A way to fix what he had done and what he now regrets doing. Time travel was considered an option to Jake when thinking of ways to fix this mess he made but due to his previous experience of using the hourglass, that would cause more problems. Not to mention he did not know about the full limitations of the hourglass itself and that was enough for Jake to take the option of going back in time even more and fixing all this.
He knew he could not go to his grandpa because he knows how he would react to the whole situation. By the time he was at the top of the stairs, Jake realized that, in his mind, there was no way out of this. He was going to have to do this with the only solace in any of this being that his existence and his little sister’s existence would happen. To Jake, it was one thing to jeopardizes his own existing because of his actions, but to jeopardize his little sisters was a whole another story to him.
