It was March 31st and the majority of the Loud family was gathered in Lori and Leni’s bedroom having a family meeting.
“I have disabled Luan’s camera; it’s playing a loop of us discussing ways to avoid her traps compiled over the last several years,” Lisa assured them, “we can chart our course of action without fear of discovery.”
“What are we going to do?” Lola worried. “Last year she dyed all my clothes black! Black! I mean yes, I can pull off the look, but I look better in pink!”
“Black?” Lana said with a snort. “She dyed all my stuff orange, fluorescent orange. I looked like a road cone and all the animals ran away when I approached them, even Izzy!”
“At least you didn’t have to deal with being signed up to join the French foreign legion like me and Leni did,” Lori growled out.
“The sun was totes harsh on our skin,” Leni offered with a shudder, “and there was all that sand.”
“Guys!” Lincoln called out, “I have a plan.”
“Really?” Lynn senior asked from the corner where he and his wife were clutching each other and protectively holding baby Lily.
“Yeah,” Lincoln said firmly, “I did some research and I’ve discovered a way to calm Luan down, for at least a little while. I’ve had Lynn helping me with my stamina for the last two weeks, so I’m pretty sure I can keep Luan occupied for the full twenty four hours.”
“That’s why you’ve been training so hard?” Rita asked. “I thought you’d finally listened to us about needing to get out more.”
“No, I’ve been training to keep Luan contained,” Lincoln said. “Now, it’s only ten minutes until that day officially begins, I got my supplies ready, all I need you guys to do is to promise not to go in Luna and Luan’s room no matter what you hear, alright?”
“You’re really taking one for the team,” Lynn said, punching him in the shoulder.
“You literally couldn’t pay me to enter her room on her day,” Lori agreed.
“I wouldn’t go in there, she’s scary,” Leni assured her younger brother.
“Your sacrifice will not be forgotten,” Lucy said solemnly.
“Yeah Brah, I really appreciate you doing this for us,” Luna told him. “So, I need to find someplace to crash for the night?”
“You can use my bed,” Lincoln told her. “Now does everyone promise not to interrupt, no matter what?”
The family exchanged glances and nodded, voicing their assent.
“Good,” Lincoln said, picking up the grocery bag he’d prepared.
“What are you going to do?” Lana asked.
“I’m going to… wrestle her into submission,” Lincoln said before quickly vanishing out the door and into the hall.
“He’s going to wrestle her?” Lucy asked in disbelief.
“That’s a dumb plan,” Lola said shaking her head, “no way can he keep her pinned for a full day.”
“I don’t know,” Lynn said, “I mean he’s been hitting the gym like a champ. He actually kept up with me on my daily runs these last few days.”
“What was in the bag?” Lori asked, interrupting the discussion. Several people tried to speak at once and she had to whistle to quiet them down. “One at a time!” she ordered. “Dad?”
“Half a pan of Lynnsagna,” Lynn senior said. “He said he needed something to keep up his strength.”
“He’s also got a six pack of my sports drinks in there,” Lynn junior added, “so he doesn’t get dehydrated.”
Lori turned to the twins. “And you two?”
“He had me help him pick out cologne,” Lola said, “but I don’t know how that’s going to help.”
“I helped him figure out what kind of grease to get,” Lana offered, “though it was more an oil really. I think the bottle said astro something on it.”
“And you Leni?” Lori asked, almost afraid of the answer, as the picture that was developing was too disturbing.
“Balloons,” Leni said cheerfully, causing all the older Louds to let out a sigh of relief.
“What kind of balloons?” Lola asked curiously.
“Individually wrapped ones,” Leni said with a smile. “Like, dozens of them.”
“You don’t think…” Luna’s voice trailed off.
“Think what?” Leni asked innocently.
“No, crazy idea,” Luna said shaking her head in denial.
“Lincoln said he would do whatever he had to, to avoid a repeat of last year,” Lisa pointed out, “and he asked for my assistance in disabling the parental controls on his laptop several days ago.”
Lucy and the twins didn’t have a clue why everyone else looked nervous, except Leni who was as clueless as ever.
“Did you and Linc do a lot of wrestling?” Lori asked Lynn.
“Yeah,” Lynn agreed before blurting out, “but not like that!”
After a few seconds of awkward silence Lisa spoke up. “Would… wrestling, calm Luan down and prevent a prank-pocalypse?”
Lynn senior and Rita exchanged glances before Rita said, “It’s possible.”
“This is crazy,” Lori said shaking her head. “We have to be reading this wrong.”
A rhythmic thumping sound started up from down the hall.
“Wow, he’s really giving it to her,” Lola said, much to the older Louds’ horror.
“Or her him,” Lana said. “Even if he’s been working out a bit lately, Luan still has a couple of inches on him.”
“Everybody go to bed,” Rita ordered suddenly, “we’ll discuss this in the morning.”
“Are we really…” Lori’s voice trailed off unsure what to say.
“What’s done is done,” Lisa offered. “At this point, I only hope my male sib has the fortitude to complete the task he’s set for himself.”
“Luan’s really not going to prank us in our sleep?” Leni asked hopefully.
“No, I think she’s a bit too busy for that,” Lori said dryly as everyone began to shuffle out the door.
“Go Lincy!” Leni cheered, making half the family wince.
“Remember we all promised not to interrupt your brother,” Lynn senior reminded everyone, “and that includes spying on them.”
“Watching them wrestle for an entire day would be boring anyway,” Lola said before yawning, “and I need my beauty sleep.”
“Hey, it’s past midnight and we haven’t been pranked,” Lana said cheerfully.
“Hopefully he can keep it up,” Lynn said, then winced. “Not like that! I’m going to bed.” She quickly rushed off.
“I’m going to be sleeping with headphones on,” Luna said as she left, glad she had her walkman with her.
Once everyone except their parents and Leni had left, Lori had to ask, “Are we just going to… I mean… Is it even possible to last for 24 hours?”
“It’s possible, and he is a Loud,” Lynn senior said proudly before wincing. “I mean, yes it is possible and he even made preparations, like my lynnsagna.”
“What?” Lori asked.
“Lynnsagna isn’t just a mass of meat and carbohydrates,” Lynn senior said, “it’s also packed with my secret recipe of herbs and spices to promote proper blood flow and put hair on your chest.”
“I don’t want hair on my chest!” Leni exclaimed, horrified.
“It only puts hair on men’s chests,” Rita assured Leni, calming her down. “Now, good night, I’m sure this will all look better…” Rita sighed and simply shook her head. “Good night.”
Once their parents had left and they’d settled into their respective beds Lori tried to sleep, but the thumping sound from down the hall kept her awake. With a groan she picked up her phone and brought up Youtube, quickly finding a ten hour video of ambient sea sounds to drown out the sounds from outside the room.

Lynn glanced over at Lucy who was making an entry in her poetry journal before bed. “Maybe we better put on some music or something to drown them out,” she offered finding the thumping noise even louder, since they shared a wall with Luna and Luan’s room.
“It’s not much different than the sound your ball makes when you bounce it off the wall,” Lucy replied unconcerned, “the pace is just a bit faster.”
Lynn had just picked up the tennis ball she habitually bounced off the wall at the foot of her bed and froze, before letting it drop to the floor. “Yeah, I think I’m going to put on the radio broadcast from the last World Series on repeat,” she decided.
“Suit yourself,” Lucy said, unconcerned. After years of Lynn’s snoring she could sleep through anything.
The next morning
The Loud children lined up in front of the bathroom door as usual, waiting for their turn.
The door opened and a tired looking Luan, in rumpled pajamas, came out with a big smile on her face and a slight limp in her steps.
Lincoln followed behind her, only wearing his underwear, looking exhausted with his feet dragging on the carpet.
“I don’t think he’s going to last a full twenty four hours,” Luna said without thinking about it, still half asleep.
“He just needs some encouragement,” Leni said. She caught Lincoln in a hug as he tried to pass, burying his face in her chest. “I believe in you Lincy!” she told him.
Lori pried her arms open to free her younger brother, who looked surprised, but also a bit more alert.
“Thanks,” he said awkwardly.
“You got this!” Lana encouraged him.
“Go for the gold,” Lola ordered him.
“Pace yourself and you’ll be fine,” Lucy offered, before elbowing Lynn.
“Yeah, go get her… champ,” Lynn said with a forced smile.
“Your plan seems to be successful,” Lisa told him with a nod as he passed the end of the line.
Lori didn’t say anything, just quickly ducked into the bathroom to avoid it all.

As they all sat down to breakfast, ignoring the faint noises drifting down the stairs, Lori had to ask, “Well?”
“It’s nine am and nothing’s on fire,” Lynn senior said with a smile.
“I haven’t sat on a single whoopie cushion or had my shampoo replaced with something smelly,” Lola said before digging into her pancakes.
“We still have all our hair, even the pets,” Lana added.
“I haven’t seen a spider at all,” Leni said.
“My clothes have not been replaced with cheerleading outfits,” Lucy said.
“It’s been the quietest April first ever,” Lynn admitted.
“Maybe this is Lincoln’s special talent,” Lana said.
“What?” Rita asked.
Lana shrugged. “We all got areas where we win all the prizes, maybe wrestling is Lincoln’s,” she explained. “I mean, he’s been at it for nine hours now.”
Lori buried her head in her hands.
“It’ll be nice to see him win some awards, Lola said, “his shelf in the trophy case is kinda bare.”
“We should get him a trophy, he seems to be totes good at it,” Leni agreed.
“We’ll go trophy shopping after breakfast,” Rita decided.
“Really?” Lori asked in disbelief.
“Would you rather hang around the house all day or go to the mall?” Rita replied.
“Good point,” Lori conceded.
In Luna and Luan’s room
“Okay, they’re gone,” Lincoln said as he saw Vanzilla drive away.
Luan stopped banging her bed against the wall with a sigh of relief. “I can’t believe this worked.”
“I told you it would,” Lincoln said pointedly.
“Okay, fine,” she said, “you were right. If our entire family is willing to overlook us banging… I might be going a tad overboard on the pranks.”
“And?”
“And you win the bet,” Luan agreed, “I will majorly tone down the pranks from here on out.”
“Good!” Lincoln said with a relieved sigh.
“I’m not sure I can even top this one anyway,” she admitted.
“What?”
“You convinced everyone in the house that you were screwing the prankster out of your older sister,” Luan said in admiration. “I mean I’m good at slapstick, but psychological pranks? You have me beat by a mile!”
“Well-” Lincoln yawned. “Being up all night is tiring. How about we catch a nap while they’re out?”
“Sure,” Luan agreed, pulling the covers back on the bottom bunk. “Climb on in.”
Lincoln climbed into bed and then had to scoot over as Luan followed him. At his confused look she said, “You’ve kept me up all night, the least you owe me is some cuddling, mister.”
Lincoln laughed and wrapped his arms around her. “That’s more than fair,” he agreed.
After the two were settled in Luan said, “This is nice.”
“It is,” he agreed as she laid her head on his shoulder.
She giggled and he had to ask, “What?”
“I was just thinking that if we never told them what this prank was, then any time I did pull a prank, they’d probably make us sleep together.”
Lincoln chuckled. “That would be funny.”
After a few more seconds had passed she spoke up, “Lincoln?”
“Yeah?”
“Do we have to tell them about our bet and this all being a prank?” she asked quietly.
Liincoln thought about it. “If they aren’t too weirded out and don’t ground us for life… I suppose we can just keep quiet, as long as you don’t mind them using me to ‘calm’ you down when you get too out of hand.”
Luan squeezed him. “I don’t mind, I kinda need a reminder sometimes and this is nice.”
“Night, Luan,” he said softly, his eyes drifting closed.
“Night,” she whispered back and slowly fell asleep.
