Hi, so originally I just had a small idea for a story and was just playing with it really. Little did I know 300 hundred reads later and a surprisingly good review for what I deem mediocre work, I would be so motivated to continue this little piece properly. Now there is nothing sexy in the story as of yet but the reason I chose this website for the story was because I did not want to be limited in the kind of story this was going to tell so for those of you looking for something raunchy (as I expect a good deal might be on this website), patience I will get to it. Also, I decided to extend this chapter rather than add another one because the chapters look much larger in the edit screen than they do on a full page and I was a little embarrassed with how little there was. I will attempt to be more descriptive and will avoid spelling mistakes for now on (they were prolific in the first draft of this piece so I am sorry for that). Anyway, happy reading!

A crackle of lightning went off in the distance leaving the chamber Azula was in in a moment of silence before realisation quickly overcame the faces of her captors.
"Ooh...sounds like the fire bending back on" she kept her voice nonchalant in an attempt to further antagonise the Avatar and his companions before summoning an arch of blue flame with an elegant sweep of her leg, the fire putting distance between her and the retreating water tribe boy that had taken to interrogating her. Flipping back so that her feet came into contact with the wall Azula broke out of her rocky restraints and turn to face the three heroes who had now taken defensive stances. An arch of fire erupted between her and the others forcing them back a little and giving Azula some breathing room from which she recollected herself. The Avatar and his companions were not eager to engage the fire princess in any dual and she decided that this could work to her advantage as she needed to make her way to the airship fleet and lead an attack to cripple the Avatars invading forces. After taunting them with her father's true location and challenging them to face him she began to run off in the direction of the hanger.
The rest of the battle went off without much of a hitch. The Avatar had decided not to challenge her father after all and began to harass the smaller airships under the command but neither he nor the water bender could harm the larger vessels as they made their way to the shore to destroy the invading forces means of escape. A moment later one of her commanders informed her that they had spotted the Avatar and a small band of the invaders fleeing the scene on their bison. Azula was slightly annoyed but didn't think going after them was wise. The thrill of victory was setting in until she received word from one of the guards of some terrible news. Her father was dead! Her mind started to race with possibilities.
"How did they do it? Had the Avatar gotten lucky? How could he have defeated him so quick? What will happen now? Who is in charge...who will become the next Fire Lord?" her internal questioning slowed as she answered her last question: Zuko is next in line. Azula wasn't going to stand for it and immediately began plotting how to rectify this loose end, all other thoughts suppressed. She quickly questioned for a moment whether or not she should be grieving for her father but shook those thoughts from her head without much trouble. While deep in contemplation she had barely noticed her royal guards were now beginning to circle her, by the time she began to question why it was too late. Five large orange fire blasts hurled in her direction. She was dumbfounded by this sudden turn of events and quickly moved to counter. Blue flame cut through their attacks like scissors through paper knocking three of them on their backs but she had been caught off guard and was off balance. Soon rocks flew past her sides and found their way to her hands, locking them in place behind her back. The Dai-Li agents responsible for taking hold of her in a vice-like grip. She struggled for all of ten seconds before deciding to save her strength.
"What going on?" She demanded, her voice sinister and cold enough to mask her genuine curiosity.
"Fire Lord Zuko had ordered your arrest" one of the guards said from behind his mask. She looked up to him in shock, had her brother really acted so quickly to move against her. If she wasn't so livid she might have been proud. She began to test her restraints and the Dai-Li tightened the bonds in warning.
"So... little Zuzu had this little coup planned did he?" She said to no one in particular before turning her face to the earth bender to her right. "How did he convince you to betray me...hmm? Was is money, did he offer you back Ba Sing Sae?" she mused. "You know I could do that and a whole lot more if you help me deal with my traitorous brother" she stated, though if her offer was even considered by the earth bender he gave nothing away in his stony expression.
"Enough!" was the command that came from the head of the fire bending guard who had been one of the men she had toppled over a moment ago and was now being helped back up. "Take her to the Sozin Prison until the Fire Lord decides what to do with her" the Di Li moved to comply but before they could a font of blue flame darted from her mouth and into the face of the man who gave the order. If she was going to escape now was as good a time as any. She jumped up until her feet hit the ceiling in a move she though Ty Lee might be proud of and then summoned to huge jets of flame which startled the two earth benders holding her. Not wanting to test her luck she ran for the door and closed it melting the seems of the metal door in place so that she would not be followed. Fire benders moved to intercept her almost immediately but they were little match for her and were swatted out of her way with little effort. She darted to the upper levels of the aircraft before opening a hatch which led to the top of the ship. Seeing a smaller ship just below her she jumped for it, using a blast of fire from her feet and hands to give a boost to reach the target. Her aim was perfect and she landed in the smaller airship's basket. The man who was piloting the ship jumped when he saw the princess, confused and little worried he moved the help her.
"Princess! Uh...let me help you" he didn't get to finish the thought as an arch of blue flame sent him flying out of the vessel and tumbling toward the ground. Not a moment of thought was spared for the man as Azula immediately began to survey her surroundings. She felt vulnerable in this new ship, the straw and rope basket and unarmoured cloth sheet that carried her were a great contrast to the armoured shell of her previous position. As if to emphasise this thought a jet of flame narrowly missed her, shot by one of the fire benders on the previous ship. She was in no position to fight and so decided to put as much distance between her and the Fire Nation Capital as possible. She set a course north-west before slumping down the basket. The realisation hit her in an instant, she was now an outcast, banished a traitor to the Fire Nation. She would not be able to show her face in her country again. Panic for the first time today began to overwhelm her, she cursed herself for this moment of weakness though and suppressed her thoughts of self-pity. Panic turned to rage as she began to plot all the terrible things she would do to her brother when she reclaimed the throne, and she was going to reclaim the throne, it was only a matter of time. As fun as her daydreams of storming into Sozun and beating her brother to a bloody pulp was she decided it was unrealistic. She would need help.
Azula had no doubt that Mai was with Zuko, the two of them were inseparable for the last few weeks, the thought crossed her mind that she could have been in on this coup from the beginning. If that was the case then she couldn't really trust Ty Lee either. Even if she did trust them going back to Sozun to collect them would be a stupid move. No...there were only a few people in the world that could help her now and she decided she would follow them.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Azula slouched in the basket of her war balloon, her position was uncomfortable and was undoubtedly bad for her back, a small throbbing pain was beginning to set in and yet she could not bring her self to move into a position more comfortable. Her mind was a constant whirlwind of thought and she found it hard to hold on to any one idea before her mind jumped to the next. The walls of the basket and the heat radiating off the engine of the balloon provided her with some respite from the biting cold winds that surrounded her at this altitude and she found herself appreciative for the small comforts. She began to play out the situation in her head.
Somehow, and she was not sure how, Zuko had defeated the Fire Lord during the eclipse, "no after the eclipse" she corrected herself. She remembered the distinctive sound of lighting that filled the tunnels under Sozun when the eclipse had ended and was certain it had come from her fathers cambers. There were very few who knew how to bend lighting and as far as she knew it was only herself and her father who could do it.
"...And of course uncle" she mused, her eyes growing wide with realisation. If she had heard lightning from her father's chambers than it was possible Zuko freed their uncle and he had been the one to kill her father and place Zuko on the throne. It would make a lot more sense than Zuko miraculously learning the ability on the spot "...and Zuko had been sneaking off to see uncle fatso for months" she cursed herself for not being more suspicious when she had the chance. She cursed herself frequently, over and over again as she had many times over the last few days, for somehow she had been bested by her brother. It didn't make sense! It shouldn't have happened! She was smarter than him, a better bender by far and she had never been bested by anyone before...and yet somehow she had not noticed her brother's plot until it was far too late. It was uncharacteristic of her. He had her fleeing like some frightened child might while attempting to escape from the wrath of her father. The thought made her tense, all the muscles in her back began to ache and she dug her fingernails into her palm so hard she thought she might bleed.
It was at that point, deep in thought, as was her usual routine on this long and boring trip, that she heard the unmistakable roar of the Avatar's flying bison. She looked down to see the gang of misfits that had plagued the fire nation for the past year walking solemnly on the ground toward a cliff edge before beginning to descend down it. She realised that since they were walking with little urgency and the bison was not charging toward her position she had yet to be noticed. Not wanting to be caught, at least not yet, she pulled a leaver in the balloon and began to use her bending to absorb the heat from her engine, allowing her to descend. She said a quick goodbye to the delicious head as the cold began to bite at her more furiously. The cold causing an unreasonable amount of fury in her. Soon the balloon had landed and she decided to begin setting up a base of operations. She had yet to fully flesh out her plan but it had derived from a series of conclusions that had come to her since she escaped Sozun.
1. She could not reclaim the throne of the Fire Nation without help.
2. She could not trust anyone in the Fire Nation to back her against Fire Lord Zuko.
3. The Avatar and his gang are reeling from a defeat that they are undoubtedly handling badly. They will be desperate for some way to get back on their feet and take the fight back to the Fire Lord.
4. The Avatar had yet to master fire bending and that was something she could offer in exchange for their help.
Yet she was nervous about this plan however, there were too many variables for her to be comfortable. The Avatar and his companions may not be thinking clearly for one, they may choose to vent their frustrations out on her, they certainly wouldn't trust her even if they controlled the urge to attack her on the spot. If they did attack her she feared she may retaliate a little too harshly, she was many things but restrained was not one of them and if she overdid it she may scare them off. However, the most worrying variable was how team Avatar would react to the news of the newly crowned Fire Lord Zuko. Would they take up arms against him as easily as they had her father, her brother may try to end the war and if that became public knowledge than the Avatar may decide that he preferred her brother to her. She would need to sow distrust in team Avatar toward Zuko and his intentions if this plan was going to work.
As she collected her thoughts she got busy setting up a tent and packing away her was balloon so that it wouldn't be discovered. She set up a fire and began eating through the last of the rations that had been in the balloon she captured. Her dwindling food would force her to confront the group sooner rather than later and she decided she would confront them tomorrow after she had a good sleep on the solid ground she missed so much after her days in flight.
