Summery
Robin and Danny are twins who have gone to hell and back to survive and would do anything to protect each other. At four years old they’re separated being adopted by different families. Robin taken to the Grayson home and Danny taken to the Fenton home, they keep contact until four years later Robin’s family dies and Danny goes through the portal accident. Robin has never stopped searching for his brother. But after being abused by his foster parents, going through the ultimate enemy, and being captured by the GIW, will it be too late for Robin to save his brother who has always protected him?
AN: I’m changing a lot in the hero’s back rounds and it will be explained in the story but here’s a bit of the background that I’m giving them. Their mom died the day they were born and their father abused them till he died to. But because their dad wanted nothing to do with them they never learned their real names so they gave each other names. Danny gave Richard the name Robin. Robin gave Danny the name Phantom. They’ll be a back story to the name as well but again you’ll have to read to know.
Prolog
Robin’s pov.
I couldn’t tell you why I decided to stay in Jump City. The reason I was on the road in the first place was to find my brother. I guess something in my gut just told me to stay put, my brother always listened to it and said that I should too, so I did. I had never stopped looking though. I owed him that much after all he’s done for me. We’re twins so I know he’s alive I can feel it. It’s just a matter of finding him; the search has grown more urgent since I know he’s in trouble. I thought about telling my team, my family about him. Maybe they could help find him. No, he’s my responsibility; I’ll find him and make sure he’s safe.
No one’s pov.
The Titans sat in the main room of Titan’s tower. Beast Boy and Cyborg were playing a racing game on the giant screen attached to the game console and other computers. Raven was in the kitchen trying to read but kept looking at another Titan in the room who was giving off strong emotions of worry, pain, grief, and most of all determination. Starfire was in the kitchen as well messing with ingredients trying to make her own food taste just right, though she was distracted as she had noticed Raven’s edginess. Robin sat at a computer in the far side of the room gathering up many files in his arms. He was the one Raven was staring at but had been oblivious to it as he grabbed the last of the files and went to his room to work. “Friend Raven what has troubled your mind?” Cyborg and Beast Boy looked up at this comment. If it had Raven worried they knew they should be worried too.
“Something’s up with Robin. I’m not sure what it is, but it’s worse than when he was obsessed with Slade.”
“That can’t be good.” Was the only reply, as BB drooped his ears, listening to Cyborg’s comment.
They all looked to the door Robin had just left through. His obsession with Slade was a memory that had left a bad taste in everyone’s mouth. They didn’t know where this would lead them. No one noticed Beast Boy flinch when he thought he faintly heard glass break. He didn’t voice it either.
Two hours later Robin came back into the commons room holding his bag as he grabbed food from the kitchen and placed it inside. As he did this he spoke “I’ll be back in a week, two weeks at most.” This sent warning bells threw everyone’s heads. Moving as one they all moved in front of the door Robin was moving towards, blocking his exit f choice.
“Guys…” Robin nearly growled out, “I need to leave”
“No you don’t.” Cyborg said, speaking for the rest of the team.
“Where are you going friend Robin?” Starfire said taking the attention upon her.
“Listen none of you need to worry, I’m fine, it’s just a family emergency. My brother needs my help.”
A look of understanding crossed their faces, even if it was tinged with shock. They stepped aside and watched Robin leave.
Chapter 1
3 weeks later, No one’s Pov
Robin had returned only a week ago. To say he came home different would be an understatement. Today was the first day he had spoken sense he had been back, the only words he did say before were the usual commands on missions. No matter what any of the other titans did or said no one could get him to open up about what happened while he was gone. He’d disappear for hours and only surface for missions or meals, though he stopped eating with the team and would leave with enough food for two. Today seemed to be different, he seemed better, though not much.
Cyborg’s pov.
Robin walked into the commons room holding a colorful plastic bag, which he was trying to hide it under his cape. “What’cha got Robin?” He jumped at the sound of my voice. Spinning he hid the bag behind him. “What?” he asked, faking an innocent look. I raised my eyebrow, giving him the stink eye. We had BB’s and Star’s attention now. Star came up to us “Friend Robin, what are you holding?” He let his cape fall over him like a cloak. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.” he replied. “Come on Rob.” Beast Boy said teasingly “What do you have to hide, unless it’s dirty?” Robin blushed then yelled “Get your mind out of the gutter, as well as the fact that it’s none of your business.”Beast Boy got closer to Robin, trying to grab the bag from behind him. “Come on Robin, let us see. Is it fan mail, or do you have a secret girlfriend you’re going to give it too? Or are you going to confess to Star?” The little grass stain was now in full on mock mode. In his own way, I think he was trying to get our old Robin back. “It’s none of your business Beast Boy now drop it!” I was pulled out of my thoughts by Robin’s yelling. He looked furious.
In truth I was a little relieved to see some kind of emotion on his face. When he had come home he looked dead. His face had been pale; the only expression that he had shown was of self-loathing. It was something I had never believed I would see on Robins face; I never wanted to see it again.
Flashback
We were all sitting at the counter in the common room. Starfire was laughing at Beast Boy who was looking dejected after I had kicked him out of the cooking area. Wearing a triumphant smirk I continued to cook bacon and eggs, without BB’s tofu crap. I really didn’t understand how he liked that stuff, IT’S DISGUSTING! Well whatever. Raven sat drinking her tea; we were all having a good time.
Suddenly she glanced up as the door swooshed open. All of us looked over then, thinking Robin was still gone. Turns out he arrived late last night. He came in looking like hell. He was wearing sun glasses instead of his mask; and gray sweat pants with a loose black short sleeve shirt. His hair was sticking out every which way of the well known bed head. Instead of a smile his face held a deep frown and his skin was a sickly pale.
“Robin, it’s good to see you back.” I said smiling. He didn’t return it walking past me into the kitchen. “Friend Robin are you alright?” Starfire asked. She had been smiling but know had a look of concern. Without answering he just simply shook his head no, continuing to grab a cup of coffee. Placing two slices of bread in the toaster he turned around, coffee in hand. “Soooo.” BB said uneasily, “Um, how’d the family emrgency go?” Robins frown deepened. The toast popped and he turned grabbing them and leaving the room. “Robin.” Starfire spoke. He ignored her and left.
End Flashback
“Look, I’ll tell you later alright!” Robin shouted getting Beast Boy to back down. The grass stain’s ears drooped and he looked a little startled. I raised my eyebrow at him. “Robin, you’ve been acting strange since you came back. What happened man?” I walked over to him. He sighed and looked at all of us minus Raven since she was on the roof. “Guys, right now, it’s really complicated, I promise I’ll tell you as soon as I can.” After that he ran out of the commons room.
Beast Boy’s pov.
Watching Robin leave the room I finally made up my mind. It wasn’t fair that he knew everything about us and we know nothing about him. He knew all of our secret identities, our pasts, and what do we know about him. He worked with Batman. Yeah that’s all. Leaving the others in the commons room I started to follow Robin turning into a fly so I could catch up without him noticing.
He turned a corner that lead to the boy’s bed rooms. When I got there the hall way was empty, Cyborg’s and my room the only ones in the hall. I saw Robin’s shadow at the end of the hall moving to the right. Following I showed up in another empty hallway. The only room in this hall was Robin’s. Not seeing Robin I went into his room only to find it empty. ‘Strange, I thought he went this way.’ I went back into the hallway and looked around. Turning back into my human form I scoped out the hallway, feeling kinda’ like a cool spy.
I heard a click and turned back into a fly, landing on the ceiling I saw a door open up in the hallway that was camouflaged to look like the wall. Robin came out of the door way and went down the hall. Before the automatic door could close I dived into the secret room.
I turned back into my human form and looked around. “Alright Rob. What are you doing that’s so secret.” The room was a little dark but as I took a step further into the room more lights came on. Looking around the room I saw one wall painted black and the remaining three a sky blue. In the corner opposite the door was a bed big enough for two with green covers. A black desk sat next to it with lots of different colored thread and a few sewing needles littered on top. The floor made me stop though, really it just creped me out. It was a simple hard wood floor of light brown. Except it was covered with ripped apart stuffed plushies; heads, arms, legs, and torsos were everywhere on the ground. Strangely all the fabric was white.
Riiiiip! I looked over to the other side of the room and saw a boy of about fifteen sitting in the corner. He had black unruly hair like Robin’s and was wearing what must have been green pajamas. His back was to me but he had something in his hand as he raised his right arm. He threw it over his shoulder and I watched as it bounced across the floor, stopping at my feet. Now that it was still I could see what it was, a dolls head. “DUDE!” I yelled jumping back in surprise and slightly disturbed.
That got the other boys attention as he sat up straight and stiff. I looked at him as he slowly turned around. The face that looked at me was extremely pale. Paler then Raven really, with big different colored eye’s. His right eye was bright green, like toxic green and the other something of ice blue. His bangs, now that I could see them, were streaked with white.
He stared at me for a moment and I stared at him. Then he opened his mouth as if to say something and took a deep breath. Next thing I knew I was covering my ears as he let loose a long ear splitting screech.
No one’s pov.
Robin was back in the common room going through reports. Next to him Cyborg was playing his favorite fighting game and trying to teach Starfire how to play. Raven sat across from Robin as she read a book in another language. They were for the most part enjoying each other’s company. Well, until they heard the noise.
A high pitched scream echoed through the room causing all four to jump but only three to ask what it was. Robin ran immediately for the door leading to the bedrooms, the others soon after on his heels. “No, no, no, no, no. Not this!” whispered Robin. “Rob, do you know what that was man?” asked Cyborg. Robin kept running, ignoring him. Soon they reached the hall way of the boy’s rooms and Robin opened the hidden door.
When they all walked in they found Beast Boy on the floor with his hands covering his ears. “Friend Beast Boy, are you alright?” asked Starfire. Raven, Starfire, and Cyborg crowded around him, however Robin just walked by heading to the boy that went unnoticed till now.
Said boy was about to scream again before Robin reached him. “Rob?” Asked Cyborg. “Sssshhh, it’s ok, Phantom it’s alright I’m here. Sssshhhh, it’s going to be ok.” The other titans stared at Robin in shock as he pulled the other boy into a hug. He rocked the boy gently from side to side, trying to calm him down. “No one’s going to hurt you, its ok.” Robin said barley above a whisper. The boy in his arms started to fidget and push away. Before he could get far Robin grabbed him by the shoulders to look him in the eye. “It’s ok, it’s ok. Here look at them.” Robin grabbed the boys face at the chin and forced him to look at the beyond confused titans. “Look at them Phantom. You’re safe here, and that’s because of them.”
The boy looked at the odd four, taking in their surprised looks. He stared at them, his eyes gained black flecks on the different colored irises. They started small but became bigger as more appeared, before long his irises became completely black, half a second later they were normal again. The boy's shaking stopped, but he held on to Robin like his life depended on it.
Cyborg couldn’t take it anymore. Instead of going to his teammate Robin had headed for the stranger, not to mention Robin had brought the boy there without any of their knowing, or feelings on the matter, but also volunteered their protection when they hadn’t even known he was here! He stood up and looked at Robin but before he could say anything Robin beat him to it. “I’ll explain, I owe that much but please. No yelling.” Cyborg paused. “Fine but you explain this, and explain it now.” Robin sighed. “I guess I’ll start with an introduction.”
Robin’s Pov.
Looking at the others I took a deep breath. “Everyone, I’d like you to meet my twin brother Phantom.” For a moment I thought they had all stopped breathing, they all had wide owlish eyes full of surprise, and mouths dropped open and standing stock still. The first to say anything was Beast Boy “YOU HAVE A BROTHER?” He shouted. Phantom flinched and I shot BB a glare. “Yes, now quit yelling. I already said not too.” I growled. Starfire was next to speak. “Oh how glorious! We now know of someone from Robin’s family!” She was excited but didn’t yell too loud to bother my brother. I held him closer to me then whispered. “Yeah, the only family I have left.”
Cyborg walked forward. “So when you left three weeks ago to help him, did you plan on bringing him here? You could have told us, we would have been ok with it.” He paused. “You didn’t have to keep him a secret from us.” “I know, but, to be honest I didn’t know what was going to happen.” Raven raised her left eyebrow. “What do you mean by that” I sighed not really knowing how to explain. It was going to be difficult but they needed to know what was going on. I looked at them all, taking in their anxious expressions. They wanted to know, to know everything. I knew where to start; I’d have to tell them everything I could.
No one’s pov.
The Titans watched as resolve seemed to come over Robin’s face he took a deep breath then spoke. “You’re going to want to get comfortable; this is going to take a while.” The Titans looked at each other then sat on the floor near Robin and his recently discovered sibling. Robin spoke once again. “The only place I can think of to start is at the beginning. So to start I’ll tell you this. Phantom and I never knew our real mother, the day we were born she had been in a car accident that forced her into labor and she died before she could give berth. The doctors had to perform surgery to save us.” “Wait.” Beast Boy interrupted. “You’re telling us everything about you?” He had wide eyes and so did the others. “Yeah, I figured it was about time.” Sighing Robin continued.
“Our dad wasn’t nice to us. Even though she died because of the accident he blamed my brother and me for our mother’s death. He became an alcoholic and by the time we were three he started to abuse us.” Starfire gasped and the others looked surprised. Shaking his head the boy wonder continued. “To be honest I don’t remember much of it, though most of my earliest memories were of Phantom hiding me in the mattress of our bed. He would reach his arm through the hole and tell me to stay quiet and not to come out no matter what. He protected me, he always did.” He looked at Phantom as he lay down on his side; playing with the remains of the doll Robin had bought him earlier that day.
“It was like that till our father died, he had attacked me with a broken beer bottle and would have killed me if Phantom, if Phantom hadn’t stabbed him. We found out later that what my brother had done was lethal but none of the police had cared. No one held it against him because we were four. We were adopted by different people about two months later. I went with a couple that was a part of a circus and Phantom went with a couple that were scientists for a living. We didn’t get to see each other a lot but we could call. Some of my best memories were those conversations; Phantom would sometimes even read to me over the phone.” Phantom smiled, like he was remembering that himself.
“It was like that for four years. When I was eight I lost my adoptive family to a murderer, and the Fenton’s, Phantom’s adoptive parents, started using him as a lab rat. I didn’t know about that part till about a year ago. When my parents died Batman adopted me and I began my training as Robin.” He paused. “I started looking for him after we lost contact. It was like he had disappeared of the face of the Earth. Then three weeks ago I found him.”
Robin couldn’t help it; he placed his hand on Phantom’s head and gently rubbed it. Phantom closed his eyes and smiled at the affection. “When the Fenton’s died a group called the G.I.W took him.” Phantom tensed. “They’re a faceless organization that was supposed to be shut down for illegal experiments on minors, they continued though with funding from a criminal I’ve been trying to locate. I’ve seen the things they’ve done to him.” Robin shuddered then looked at the others. “They make Slade look like a saint.” That caught the others attention, looks of horror crossed their faces. They knew how much Robin loathed Slade. To make him say anything that was somewhat good about the man was big. Looking at the boy wonder’s sibling the same thought bubbled to the surface of their minds. ‘What happened to the poor boy?’
“His mind is in ruins now.” Robin whispered; his voice filled a deep sadness. The others noted that he looked like he wanted to cry as he pet his brothers hair. “Phantom has always been strong, mentally and physically. He could go toe to toe with Batman and Superman at the same time and not even break a sweat. When I started training I wanted to be just like him, he never let anyone down.” Robin paused taking in a deep breath. “He always knew what to say to me, always there when I needed him. That’s why I brought him here when I found him. It would have been so easy to die to escape the pain that he went through. Instead he chose to keep his promise to me and live, he lost his mind to accomplish that.” Robin stopped rubbing his brother’s head and looked at his team mates. “That’s why I have to help him. I owe him my life, and the only place I believed he would be safe was here.”
The other titans looked at each other for a brief second, all knowing the answer. Raven spoke up. “What can we do to help?” Robin couldn’t help but sigh and smile in relief. His team, his family was going to help him.
“Thank you, I’m sorry I had to hide him from you but you saw his reaction to Beast Boy. He doesn’t handle people well, and him screaming like that was one of his better ones.” “What do you mean?” Cyborg asked. “He get’s violent, really violent, and with his strength he’d give superman a run for his money. The only person he hasn’t gotten violent with is me.” The others starred at Phantom; he was lying on the floor with his head on Robin’s knee. “However” Robin continued “He’s been getting better. Today was his first day of any real progress.”
I'm sorry to say that I'm not much of a writer. My biggest problem is the middle, I can think up a begining and see an end but the path is really a chasem. Im also just not that great at writing period. Feel free to run with my ideas even if they don't show up on the challange board. Just send me a link in the reviews so that I can enjoy your story too.
