Diana was sitting in her first period class, algebra, waiting for it to start. She had showed up early as she usually did. The only other person in the room was the teacher, Mr. Howard. He was busily grading papers and drinking his coffee.
Diana's literary trance was broken by her teacher's voice. "So, a new student?" Diana, startled looked up to see a girl in a baggy black hoodie with some band name on it, and dark blue jeans. The girl's dark brown hair was short in back, but angled longer in the front where it was about 3 inches passed being shoulder length. The girl's body seemed to be swimming in the baggy hoodie, but her legs looked muscled, slim, and fit. "Yes", said a voice that was quiet. The voice wasn't exactly soft, but it wasn't sharp. It wasn't very high pitched sounding or too deep. It was perfect. The girl handed Mr. H a scrap of paper that was in her hand. He looked at it. "your name is Dylanna?" "Yes, but I would prefer Dylan". Said the perfect voice. Mr. H nodded his head and said;"Okay, Dylan. I am going to give you a text book. For today just read all of chapter 6 and do all the questions at the end of the sections. I expect it to be in tomorrow" Mr. H got up and walked to the storage cabinets where the books where stored he grabbed one and handed it to Dylan. "Here." Said Mr. Howard. "Why don't you go sit behind Mrs. Lombard". Dylan walked at a relaxed pace towards Diana's seat which was the first seat in the row closest to the windows. As Dylan passed her, Diana took a breath into her nose. The new girl's scent was sweet, and lingering. Di took the scent as being orchid and juniper. It smelled like purple. As the girl sat behind her, Diana turned around to welcome her. Dylan's face moderately surprised her. Her skin was creamy pale, her eyes were slightly squinted. Asian somewhere far back probably, Di thought. The color was a haunting blue gray with swirls of very light tan mixed in. Her hair was parted to the right and slightly covered the eye on that side. Her face was very angular, but her chin wasn't pointed. The most prominent part of her face was her lips. Dylan had full pouty looking lips that glistened slightly. She probably just put on lip balm. Di thought. But more than that, there were multiply piercings on them. Venom bites, and a vertical labret. (Di only knew with they were called because Martin had gone through a huge phase of wanting all kinds of piercings. And, naturally, he had to tell her about all of them). Diana hoped the girl hadn't noticed her moment of pause. Di smiled kindly and said "Hi, I'm Diana, it is nice to meet you". The pierced beauty gave her a smile that was sweet but relaxed and lazy looking. Her teeth were white, but not blindingly so, her top and bottom canines seemed abnormally pointy. "It's nice to meet you Diana. I'm Dylan" Replied the pale girl. Diana saw shiny metal sparkle from behind her teeth. Tongue piercing, Thought Di. Dylan had a very relaxed vibe about her. Her eyes seemed dreamy and far off, as did her smile. Diana turned back around, satisfied that she had done her part in coming the new student feel welcomed. More students were filling the room now. Eyeing the pierced girl behind her. Diana turned around to see Dylan already engrossed in her assignment. Good thought Di. I don't like the way she makes me feel, I can definitely live without talking to her.
