"Pssst, hey buddy," Matt whispered out of the side of his mouth. He knocked on his partner’s wood desk to get her attention. Elisa looked up from her computer, fingers hovered over her keyboard. She glanced around the nearly empty squad room, not many detectives worked third shift and the handful that were there were on the opposite side of the room.
"Why are you whispering?" She nodded towards the other detectives. "They can’t hear us. And don’t call me buddy, I’m your partner not your pet."
He flashed her a lopsided grin before leaning across his desk. "There was a break in at Cyberbiotics about fifteen minutes ago."
Elisa rolled her honey brown eyes and resumed typing; her slender fingers flew across the computer key board. "I’m sure dispatch has already sent a patrol out to take a look at it." She mumbled absently.
Her partner let out a loud sigh. She could hear paper crumbling and Matt talking under his breath. Elisa needed to get this report done or Captain Chavez would be on her butt like an angry bed bug. So she ha’d had a couple of accidents in the squad car this year; fighting crime in Manhattan was dangerous.
She did not see the flying paper ball until it was too late. It landed in front of her and rolled once after smacking her in the forehead. She glared at her partner who looked back at her with no remorse, hands folded over his chest.
"As I was saying, there was a break in at Cyberbiotics about fifteen minutes ago." He raised a hand to silence her. "Two minutes ago a silent alarm went off at Nightstone Unlimited." Elisa closed her mouth silencing the insult that had been on the tip of her tongue.
Cyberbiotics was owned by Halcyon Renard, the father of Fox Xanatos. Fox was married to one of the wealthiest, and at times, ruthless men in New York:, David Xanatos. The millionaire was obsessed with power and immortality. His marriage to Fox had tamed him somewhat but Elisa would never completely trust him.
Nightstone Unlimited was owned by Dominique Destine aka Demona, an insane female Gargoyle cursed to be human by day and turns back into a Gargoyle at night. The irony of the spell is that Demona despises humans and blames them for the death of her clan over a thousand years ago.
"You want to check out Nightstone while the patrols are busy at Cyberbiotics?" Elisa already knew the answer to that question, and was out of her seat, weapon holstered before Matt responded. He was still seated at his desk when she charged out the door.
"Let’s go, what we are waiting on?!." He said running out the building behind her.
Elisa stared up at Nightstone Unlimited, a knot of unease forming in her gut. It wasn’t the tallest building in Manhattan but there was something imposing about it. At the front of the building was a Gargoyle -shaped fountain surrounded by a moat. The Gargoyle resembled Demona and the fierce expression on its face seemed to dare anyone to enter.
The moat surrounded the front and back of the building and the only way in or out was a bridge over the moat. A dense fog rising up from the moat only added to the creepy feeling Elisa was getting.
"Look Elisa!" Matt pointed to a first floor window.
Something large with broad shoulders filled the entire frame. The shadow stood still, its chest rose and fell in a rapid pace. "What do you think is wrong with it?" Matt asked also noticing its heaving chest. "You think it’s Demona?"
Movement in the night sky caught Elisa’s attention.
"Unless Goliath or the others have dyed their hair red and grown breasts, then that’s Demona." She said pointing up at the sky. Demona disappeared on the rooftop and the shadow in the window suddenly vanished.
Elisa and Matt entered the building through broken front doors and used a freight elevator to reach the executive offices before getting off and climbing the stairs to the roof.
"Give it me!" At the sound of Demona’s voice she and Matt froze. There was no light on the roof except from the waxing moon and Elisa’s eyes had not adjusted to the darkness.
Demona’s demand was met with a low growl that made the hairs on the back of Elisa’s neck stand up.
Hiding behind a ventilation unit, they were not able to see Demona or to whom she was speaking. The two of them split up going in the opposite direction.
As Elisa crawled towards the sound of Demona‘s voice the pungent smell of blood hit her. She covered her nose and mouth with her hand hoping to push back rising nausea.
"I know you’re hungry, give me the case and then you can feed."
Demona's tone had changed. Her voice was now a silky caress and this time the offer was met with low whine.
Elisa raised her head and could now see Demona standing on the edge of the rooftop holding the carcass of a stag high in the air with one arm. The dead animal’s throat was cut; its head hung off to the side. Demona’s clawed hands, feet were covered in blood, and Elisa had no doubt that she had used her sharp talons to cut the deer’s throat.
"You can have this as a reward or you can eat the human female trying to sneak up behind you." Demona looked at Elisa and her eyes flashed red in anger.
"Kill her!" She screamed.
A loud roar drowned out Demona and the metal vent Elisa had been hiding behind suddenly bent under the weight of something large when it jumped on top of it. Elisa fell back, drew her gun, and aimed.
Her eyes widened in horror when she saw what was standing over her. A seven foot tall were covered in reddish-brown fur its mouth open displaying razor sharp teeth.
Elisa stared in disbelief, it could not be Goliath had returned the Eye of Odin to the God himself. There was no way this could be Fox Xanatos. The last time Elisa had encountered the were fox it had turned out to be Fox Xanatos under the spell of the Eye of Odin.
The amulet reveals the inner self of its wearer, transforming them physically and mentally into an exaggerated version of their true self.
Fox was an assassin, a hunter, when the Eye was given to her by her future husband it turned her in to the ultimate hunter, a were. But it also drained her human life force , increasing her metabolism, causing her to have to constantly eat in order to sustain the were form.
"Fox?" It came out as a whisper but a twitch of the were’s pointed ears confirmed she’d been heard. Amber eyes flashed with recognition before turning blue.
"Elisa," the gargled word was barely audible. Fox panted and shook her head from side to side, as she sat back on her haunches. Elisa lowered her .38 and placed it on the ground. She and Fox were not friends but she did not want the woman’s blood on her hands.
Light flooded the roof as the clouds parted and the moon lit up the night sky. Blue eyes flickered copper -colored amber then blue again. Whatever control she had had was quickly slipping away.
"Elisa, Elisa…run!" Fox’s scream morphed into a howl. Demona watched the scene with baited breath waiting for Fox to do what she’d promised her daughter Angela she would not, kill Elisa.
The Gargoyle was so caught up in what was going on she didn’t see or hear Matt Bluestone coming up behind her.
Elisa ran, ignoring the sound of metal crunching as Fox jumped from vent to vent. She turned her head just in time to see Fox leap from the last ventilator, her furry body and lethal black claws extended. So focused was she on her quarry that the were never saw Matt throw his taser.
Elisa stretched, catching it in mid air and landed on her stomach. The wind was knocked out of her but she didn’t have time to think about that as she willed herself to roll over. She reached inside her leather jacket and pulled out her own taser.
She held a stun gun in both hands, each set of electrodes contained nine hundred thousand volts and just before Fox reached, her, Elisa unleashed them.
The were fox froze in mid air, its muscles paralyzed. It then fell to the ground twitching as the electricity passed through its muscels temporarily shutting them down.
Elisa’s body hummed with the rush of adrenaline. She looked around for Demona, expecting the Gargoyle to jump out at her any moment.
The were fox lay face-down on the ground and Elisa held her breath as she walked towards it. Once she reached it, she knelt down and placed two fingers on the side of its neck, searching for a pulse.
Elisa released the breath she was holding once she found one. She placed a hand on Fox’s forehead, "you’re going to be okay just hold on."
She stroked the damp fur on her head and turned towards the area she’d last seen Matt. "We’ve got to get her out of here, her pulse is weak and she needs medical attention."
When Elisa turned back around she was nose to nose with the were -fox. Its fangs were bared in a silent snarl. She swallowed the scream that threatened to come out.
"Demona is gone but I’ve got this brief…" Matt’s words trailed off when he saw Elisa’s situation.
"Shit," he muttered and drew his weapon.
Elisa held out her hand to forestall him. "She could have already killed me, but she didn’t."
The were continued to look at Elisa, ignoring Matt. the The only indication Fox was aware of him were her twitching ears.
The one closet to him would rotate in his direction when he spoke but other than that, she focused on Elisa.
"I’m sorry I had to taser you," Elisa said, hoping that on some level Fox could hear her.
She placed a hand on the were’s broad shoulder and kept her voice low. If Fox were wearing the Eye of Odin, then taking it off would transform her back to human.
"Will you let me make sure you’re not hurt?" The were -fox rumbled, the sound reverberated around the now silent rooftop.
"Ummm, what was that?" Matt asked. "Did it just purr?"
The were fox allowed Elisa to run her hands through its soft fur checking for injuries. It sniffed the air around her before leaning in closer and smelling her neck. Its wet nose tickled her skin but Elisa remained still, only her hands moving.
Fox continued to sniff Elisa, between her breasts and down her stomach. As it crouched lower, Elisa spotted what she was looking for. Tied around Fox's neck and only partially hidden from view now that Fox was sweating from overexertion was a black cord.
Just as she reached for the thread Fox sniffed between Elisa’s legs and the detective froze in shock. The intimate act had caught her completely off guard, and to have someone watching was even more uncomfortable.
"I think there are other ways to get to know each other Fox," Elisa tried to joke. She petted the were’s head, hoping to get its attention. Fox raised her head and her heavy lidded amber eyes gazed at Elisa with renewed interest.
She was no longer the main course but apparently Elisa was still on the menu.
"Wow so that’s what they mean by pussy whipped, huh." Matt asked his voice now back to its normal timber. "Goliath didn’t stand a chance. Once he got a whiff of you, it was game over." Fox’s ears twitched and she growled.
It wasn’t the deep rumble from before, but something more menacing.
"Don’t mention his name again." Elisa warned, instinct telling her what was wrong. "Yeah that was kinda scary; I don’t think she likes Goliath." Elisa groaned at the mention of Goliath’s name again.
The were snarled and shoved its nose into Elisa shoulder just below her neck. Hoping it was distracted, Elisa grasped the cord around Fox’s neck and at the moment she was about to pull it off, sharp canines bit into her shoulder.
Elisa screamed in pain as blood gushed from the wound, saturating the front of her shirt. Without thinking, she yanked on the cord with all her might pulling it off Fox’s throat. The sound of Fox’s scream mingled with hers as the other woman transformed back into her human self.
Elisa removed the gauze bandage covering her wound, then she stared at her reflection in the mirror. After a few weeks, only a light scar remained from Fox’s bite. Her fangs had missed the carotid artery by just a few inches but Elisa was certain Fox had not intended to kill her. Slender fingers reached up to stroke the lighting bolt shaped mark but fearing her reaction to the touch, she dropped her hand.
The scar was sensitive and Elisa only kept the bandage on to protect it from any contact. Even the slightest touch seemed to set off every nerve in her body from the tips of her fingers all the way down to her toes and places in between she didn’t want to think about.
But last night she’d pressed too hard and the feel had left her breathless and wanton with desire. She had spent the night touching herself but was unable to find release, her usual fantasy of her and Goliath consummating their relationship was interrupted with visions of amber eyes and red hair.
Elisa’s own eyes looked tired and worried, she had not told anyone about the effects of the scar because she had hoped once it had completely healed it would become less sensitive.
She did not want to go to Goliath with her concerns but she needed to talk to someone who might have some answers. Perhaps Hudson, the oldest of the Gargoyle clan, could help her. The one eyed warrior had seen many things in his lifetime and if anyone could help her, she was certain he could.
As she turned to go back into her bedroom and waive of heat enveloped her and she feel fell to the floor. The cold tile did little to soothe her suddenly burning flesh. Without thinking, she reached between her legs and touched herself.
At her home, Fox pressed against the marble wall in her shower, her head back, mouth opened unable to suppress the moans coming from the back of her throat.
The small vibrator between her legs was a blur as it disappeared inside of her. Water bombarded her from all sides soaking her from head to toe, dripping down her face and breasts.
She turned slightly so that one of the jets made contact with the sensitive nub between her legs. She spread herself wider with one hand the other pushing the vibrator in and out, as she got closer to orgasm.
For weeks, her body simmered with sexual need. Even after spending entire nights riding her husband she had been unable to find release.
And then last night vague images of her fighting someone, screams of pain, mingled with screams of pleasure had woken her from a restless sleep. A now familiar ache had formed between her legs and she had turned to David but unlike her, he had been sound asleep.
Dark circles ringed his eyes, no doubt from the many nights of long drawn out sex they had been having. A pang of guilt had twisted her heart and she’d pulled back.
Fox took a deep breath and held it as the feel of an orgasm built low in her stomach. The smell of almonds and musk filled her nostrils and with one final push, she found the release that had been eluding her for weeks. "EEElissa," she groaned and crumbled onto the bathroom floor.
