The Lost Chronicle of Creations as dictated by Agni, La, Tui, Hou-T’u to Wan Shi Tong
In the beginning there was the sun and the ocean. As they were alone, the two gods were the fiercest of rivals and the best of friends. The sun would shed light that reached deep into the depths of the ocean and the ocean would send waves high into the sky but neither could say who was the strongest.
They decided to combine their efforts and create an impartial third party who could settle their agreements. The ocean withdrew its waters and offered up a portion of its bed leaving earth in its wake. The sun offered a portion of its light creating night in its wake. They decided to call their creation the moon and gave it a place in the sky so it could watch and judge both of them.
However their contest was soon forgotten as the sun and ocean watched the moon use their gifts to become its own being. Unlike the Sun, the Moon shed light but it was gentle and soothing without the heat of the sun. Like the Ocean it controlled the waves creating a gentle breeze without its fury.
The Sun and Ocean also took delight in the Moon and the byproducts of her creation, the Earth and Air. Inspired by the Ocean and Sun, the Earth and Air made their own creations birds, animals and human beings.
As fascinating as their new companions were the Ocean and Sun soon resumed their rivalry. The Ocean created polar ice caps, whales and sealife to impress her. The Sun created stars and comets for the same reason. All of those new things delighted the moon equally. The Moon found merits in both of them and was unable to judge.
Unlike the spirits, the new creatures had set forms which fascinated shapeless entities. They soon began to mimic them alternating through each until they became comfortable in each physique. The mastery of the forms taught then the difference in male and female and the pleasures of all manner of sex between them. Like the combining of the ocean and the sun to create the moon, these liaisons gave birth to the first benders: sky bison, badger moles, and dragons.
The spirits soon discovered emotions which extended beyond rivalry and companionship such as sadness, joy, desire, and more dangerously pride. Humans began to call the sun Agni, the ocean La, the moon Tui, the Earth Hou-T’u and the air Vayu. They began to worship them, building grand temples and civilizations deifying the spirits and their animal representations. In time humans learned the art of bending from our first children.
The human children of Hou-T’u were stubborn. The human children of Vayu were lighthearted and free. The children of La were able to adapt to anything. The children of the Agni were like the sun. They possessed an all consuming need to spread their light over everything.
