New Life, New Hope
By: kenobi1985 (known on LiveJournal as lotr_jedi) ’Verse: Transformers: Animated (AU) Pairing: JazzxProwl Summary: Another mating season has come, but this one comes with an unexpected ending…and perhaps a whole new beginning. Rating: NC-17 for sexual content and male (dragon) pregnancy. Warnings: All of the dragons in this story are “male” (please read further). Mention of suicide and madness. No actual attempt at suicide is made by any of the characters. I can’t say the same for the madness, however. Disclaimer: I do not own Transformers, Hasbro does. I make no profit from the writing or posting of this story. ~*~ A/N: As per AFF.net/TOS rules and regs, my rather lengthy "Author's Notes" page (formerly a chapter of their own) can now be found at the following link: http://www2.adult-fanfiction.org/forum/index.php/topic/30490-authors-notes-for-my-story-new-life-new-hope/. ~*~ Chapter One: Another Breeding Season Having narrowly avoided yet another fight with a Stud trying to stake their claim on one or more of the clan’s Breeders, Jazz decided to cut his losses for another breeding season. It wasn’t worth it getting himself beaten up any further. His right flank was still bleeding from a long, shallow gash, the blood a stark contrast against his pure white scales. He hadn’t been quite fast enough to avoid one of his attackers’ initial strike. Fortunately, they were more interested in beating him off than in actually killing him. It could be difficult to tell with some Studs, in Jazz’s opinion, thinking of one in particular, namely the one who had left him wounded. Thankfully, dragons weren’t easily brought down by such minor injuries, whatever the intent behind them may have been. Leaving his clan’s territory without being fully aware of his movements, lost in thought as he was, he eventually found himself on the eastern plains, a vast prairie stretching between the northern mountain range and the southern sea. That was when he saw him. The other dragon was a stunning creature by any dragon’s standards, and Jazz would be the first to admit that his standards were perhaps higher than most. The stranger, however, more than exceeded any of them. Jazz had to reign in his excitement, reminding himself to approach with caution in case the unknown dragon was another Stud in an intolerant mood. The stranger was a slender, black dragon with golden horns and dorsal spines and a golden blade on the end of his tail that flared out into three sharp prongs. Even at this distance, Jazz knew that he would not want that thing anywhere near his neck, or anywhere else for that matter. His excitement flared when he picked up the distinctive scent of a Breeder in season. Releasing a lusty growl, Jazz drew nearer and then rolled over in the air several times, displaying his abilities as a flier as well as his intentions toward the black and gold. To his dismay, the Breeder was not only uninterested in his advances but openly hostile to them, and him, as well. Jazz found himself being charged at head on. In a matter of minutes, he had narrowly avoided no less than three attempts by the black and gold to hit him with his tail blade and even more attempts to scratch and bite him, the last swipe of those sharp claws grazing his right shoulder. Caught off-guard, Jazz backed off, watched all the while by the suspicious black and gold. “What’s the big idea?” he demanded. Perhaps not the best choice of words under the circumstances, but Jazz had never seen such an extreme reaction from a Breeder before. By their very nature, Breeders were passive creatures – at least as passive as dragons ever were – unless they were actively defending a kill, their nest, or their young. So why did this one react that way? “If you knew who I was before you came here, you would not be asking me that. Nor would you be asking me to mate with you,” the black and gold replied in a flat tone. “Who you are?” Jazz echoed, as taken aback by the words as he’d been by the reception he’d just received. He’d never seen this dragon before. He hadn’t even known that there were any dragons living out here. “What do you mean?” “Ask your Elders,” the black and gold replied. “Mention the name Prowl and see where it gets you. Then maybe you will understand.” The bitterness, especially where the Elders were concerned, struck Jazz deeply, and he paused for a moment before speaking again. That name was familiar to him. Prowl… “Oh.” “Yes, ‘oh’,” Prowl bit out. “You obviously know a little more than just my name. Now you can leave me in peace. You will not get anything out of me. I am trying to spare you unnecessary grief.” “The Studs of my line have always been especially potent,” Jazz persisted, with no pretense of false modesty. “You never know…” “I do know,” Prowl cut in, though Jazz thought that he detected a hint of amusement in his tone, albeit at his expense. He didn’t care. “Go be potent elsewhere, with some other Breeder. A real Breeder. Every egg I have ever laid has turned grey, the Hatchling dead inside before it could hatch. That is why I was chased out of my clan and why I continue to be unwelcome by all the clans. Do not waste your seed on me. It will only die.” At that, Prowl drew his wings in, dropping from the sky in a controlled fall that was as beautiful to watch as the dragon himself. It hurt Jazz to see him go, knowing that the black and gold was so resigned to being alone for the rest of his life. Dragons were more than capable of surviving and thriving on their own, but they tended to be social creatures, helping each other to raise their young and feed the members of the clan, so being clanless was seen by many to be a disgrace. Jazz had heard rumors about dragons who had killed themselves rather than live with the shame. That, or gone mad. Only a rare crime such as murder had ever warranted permanent exile from one’s clan; however, being unable to have children, whatever the reason, was considered by some of the more hide-bound Elders to be akin to it. But Jazz didn’t know why no clan would take Prowl in. One clan’s rulings shouldn’t have an impact upon another’s, and other clans had been known to take in exiles before. He knew that he didn’t have the full story about why Prowl had been exiled from all of the clans. Obviously, his Carrier and the other clan members had wanted to shield the younger dragons from the worst of the truth. He needed more information and he knew where, or rather from whom, he could get it. He watched Prowl until the black and gold had passed beneath the shelter of a dense stand of trees and then made himself turn for home. He wasn’t deterred. Far from it, in fact. Somehow, he’d win Prowl to his side. For now though, he needed to seek out Ratchet and Optimus, the only ones to whom he could trust his hopes and ideas. Ratchet was a great healer. Maybe, just maybe, he could find a way to help Prowl. If Prowl’s condition, if one could even call it that, could be cured, then the reason for his exile would be void and he could come home. Optimus was his best friend and he knew that the red and blue dragon would help him however he could, even if all that he could do was listen. His advice had always been practical and reliable even when they were Hatchlings. Jazz didn’t know why he was so desperate to help someone he’d only just met, but he was. He’d fallen hard for a dragon who wanted nothing to do with him, if only to protect himself from being hurt again, and there was nothing he could, or would, do to stop it. But he could try to take away the source of Prowl’s pain. There just had to be a way. He had to try. While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
