Prologue - Normal Neighbourhood
‘The cards of faith have led me to this place, but what does it all mean?’ The dark figure stared down at the Tarot card in his hand, it was the final card in every set, in his hand he held the world and it had lead him here to the Cal-du-sac, a place where children seemed to play happily among themselves as children do. There were outcasts and populars just like any other place so why was this so different? Why had he been drawn to this place, this place just seemed too normal…. Was it that this place was too perfect? Further investigation would be needed to figure this out he decided…. It rained the day the stranger arrived in the cul-du-sac, well to be exact the strangers family had moved into an empty house at the entrance of the little road on the corner, this caused a buzz of conversation amongst the children as the house had been abandoned for as long as anyone could remember and the outside had been in need of repairs until a week ago. A week ago a small truck filled with workman had rolled up and began tidying the front yard of rubbish, repairing the outside and inside of the house, replaced broken tiles on the roof and given the old house a fresh coat of paint. The next day another truck arrived this one with an electrician and a plumber, then on the final day the second to last truck arrived and this was the landscapers. They laid down a fresh lawn on the dilapidated ground trimmed the hedges around the windows and planted fresh pansies near the front fence. Then they left, as soon as the final truck had left the neighbourhood kids arrived. “Guess someone new is moving in yes?” asked Rolf looking at Kevin “Guess so…” replied the red head “When was the last time someone lived in that house?” asked Naz “Beats me” replied the red head once more then the three moved on with the rest of their afternoon. “What an immaculate lawn and garden to think they got it looking so pristine so fast” mumbled Double D as he and the other Ed’s came for a closer look. “My brother said that place was haunted” whispered Eddy causing the big Ed to jump. “HAUNTED LIKE A GHOST OR A ZOMBIE!” The big Ed screamed explaining that this was a sign of the coming zombie apocalypse. Double D rubbed the bridge of his nose sighing, he had known it was a mistake all those months ago to take Ed to see Zombieland. “There is no Zombies Ed; Eddy’s brother probably just said that to scare Eddy” Eddy quickly jumped the gun to defend himself by saying that those stories never made him wet himself, which just earned a strange look from both Double D and Ed, “No one mentioned…” but it was too late Eddy was already sulking his way back to his house with Ed following close behind. Edd let out a long sigh, perhaps this new neighbour would help with his recent bout of melancholy, as if on cue a cold breeze brushed past the sock headed boy sending a chill down his back. The boy turned and faced the house with a feeling of dread and uncertainty. “Now there has to be a logical explanation for this feeling…” he mumbled to himself as he turned to leave back towards his own home, after all father would be home soon, but as he walked away he couldn’t shake the feeling he was being watched. While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
