(I'm not sure if this is how things went or what not, I only ever saw the movie and a few episodes of the series thanks to my little cousin. Just overlook any inconsistencies).
It was a week after Lilo's sixteenth birthday and sitting at a local cafe she was looking over brochures for a number of colleges. All of this was covered by a straw roof which gave everything a very laid back feeling.
There were a few other patrons in the cafe, though things were slow right now. Lilo's waitress, a young local girl with sort black hair and chipper attitude refilled the cup of pineapple juice sitting on the table and the two exchanged a small smile and nod. Her attention was drawn some time later by a loud crash coming from the kitchen followed by raised voices which immediately made her worry.
Standing from her seat Lilo walked toward the kitchen slowly not sure what was going on, when the door at the back of the cafe burst open a stray dog came scampering out. Raw meat in his mouth it took off running, a rather irate cook waving a spatula was in hot pursuit. Lilo giggled slightly, relieved that it wasn't Stitch getting into trouble again. Her best friend had learned to fit in a little better over the years and didn't cause as much trouble as he once did, but the little blue alien was still known to cause trouble, sometimes intentionally.
“Lilo Pelekai!” a voice said.
Turning around to see who had called her name Lilo came face to face with a sight she wasn't all too happy to see, Mildred Edmonds. The redheaded young woman who had bullied on her as a child had moved away almost ten years ago and it had been almost that long since she had seen her. Not long enough in Lilo's mind. Instead of smiling and greeting Mildred she folded her arms frowning slightly as she approached. The young woman had grown up to be tall, slender, and now had thick red hair down to her shoulder blades. She still wore the same red rimmed glasses she always had, but they didn't look quite so large now that she had grown into them. The plain light blue summer dress Mildred was wearing also clung to the slender figure she had now.

At this Lilo looked over at Mertle with a bit of an odd expression on her face, it was obvious that she didn't really know how to react to that. “So uh... got a boyfriend back home?”
“No, guys really aren't my thing, you?”
“Oh, I've got a few guy friends, but no boyfriend right now.”
