She knew she was being silly, but she couldn’t help herself. She just couldn’t believe it, was afraid to even. And yet here he was, good as new, like nothing had happened. Or rather, like everything had happened the way it should have, and that he’d been by her side this whole time. Her Iop. Her Tristepin.
More than once on their way back to the Sadida Kingdom, he’d caught her staring, Evangeline turning away quickly, but not without that familiar and pleasant locking of eyes, that rush of heat to her face and chest, that painful and wonderful stuttering of her heart. She didn’t realize she was doing it at first, watching him like she was, as though he would disappear.
Not until they’d been once again surrounded by the lush, green atmosphere that was the very essence of Sadida, and Tristepin must have gone off somewhere without her realizing; she must have looked away from him for a second and he was gone. Her heart had stopped beating, her mind reeling at the both insane and terrifyingly possible idea that he was still dead, and that he was never coming back. That everything that had happened was a lie. That the second chance she’d been given wasn’t real. That she’d imagined the whole thing… And that she was alone. She’d dropped whatever she was doing then, having a conversation with someone most likely, and searched for him, barely restraining herself from scolding him once he’d been found. She knew it was stupid to be so worried, knew it was irrational and yet found herself near tears when all he did was tilt his head at her in very Iop-ish confusion, that adorably ignorant smirk on his face. “Are you okay, Eva?” he’d said, meaning well, but so oblivious it hurt. “You seem upset.” She’d walked away then, not so much because she couldn’t face him, but rather because she couldn’t face herself. In fact, it wasn’t until much later that she even managed the courage to ask him for a moment alone, knowing that once she did, it would define them, define her. And if she really was crazy, she didn’t know if she could handle it.
Amalia had graciously offered her bedroom for their private meeting, Eva opting to go first and meet him there in hopes of coming up with something far less ridiculous to say than what was going on in her head right now. With a heaviness that seemed to linger in every inch of her body, Eva sat down on the plush comforter, running her hands over the all-natural fibers, admiring how soft they were, how colorful. She didn’t even notice him come in.
“You wanted to talk to me?” Tristepin smiled from the doorway, the sound of his voice just as it should be, so warm and kind and purely him. It was a good start at least. She nodded, offering her best attempt at a smile in return before motioning for him to join her. He sat down close enough that she could feel the heat of his body radiating between them, another good sign. But it wasn’t enough. She needed to know that he was here, that he was actually, truly with her right now, at this very moment. She needed to believe it with every bit of Wakfu that made her, or else she’d go mad. And she couldn’t do that again. Not again…
“Evangeline…?” Tristepin said her name, brows furrowing with concern as Eva reached towards him, fingertips brushing his temple so lightly that it barely qualified as a touch. “Eva,” he tried again, voice softer, almost pleading, as he made to grab her hand, only to reach past it and rest his palm against her cheek, thumb wiping at a stray tear. “You’re crying?” The worry in his voice was heart-wrenching. “Tell me what’s wrong.” She hadn’t even realized she was crying, but now the tears wouldn’t stop, Evangeline holding his hand to her cheek as though it was her last life line. Without skipping a beat, Tristepin pulled her into him, letting her bury her head in his chest.
“I never knew,” she cried. “I never knew… Not until you were gone, and then… and then, I…” she looked up at him, no more able to stop the words from coming as she could the tears from falling. “I’m afraid to close my eyes,” she whispered, voice cracking with the pain of all those fears she couldn’t overcome. Tristepin just continued to hold her close, kissing her forehead, hair, cheek as she spoke. “I’m afraid that… if I do… you won’t be here when I open them again.” At this, Tristepin stopped, holding her away from him just enough for her to see his face, his eyes, the ghost of a comforting smile.
“I’m here, Evangeline.” He said matter-of-factly, repeating it like a mantra. Or a promise. “I’m here right now, with you. And nothing will ever change that.” He lifted her chin, grinning like the Iop she’d so irrevocably fallen in love with. “Never again.”
She kissed him then, pressing their lips together fiercely, passionately, willing herself, in that kiss, to believe him. Hands clutching desperately at the back of his shirt, gripping the fabric like it would keep her from falling apart. She was shaking, their kiss salty from tears that were still falling, mingling on their tongues and reminding her of how weak she was. Too need a Iop, so much that it would break her to lose him again, was foolish, outrageous, mad. She was mad. But that was love. A mad, strange, overwhelming, terrifying, wonderful thing. Like losing yourself and finding yourself at the same time. She didn’t know how long they stayed like that, but it could have been forever and she’d have been happy.
“You’ve stopped crying,” Tristepin whispered against her lips and Eva blinked. She had stopped crying, somehow, though she couldn’t recall when. He smiled, an action she could feel more than see. “I’m that good a kisser?” She rolled her eyes, pulling away and smacking him hard on the shoulder. “Sorry, sorry!” He laughed, and after a moment or two of watching the way his whole body laughed with him, she found herself joining in, reveling in that simple and beautiful feeling.
Suddenly, his hand was on hers, holding it to his lips, kissing each knuckle like the knight that he was. “That’s my Eva,” he smiled. “So much more beautiful when you’re smiling.”
Her heart warmed at that, stuttering happily---Wakfu, how long had it been since she’d felt this happy…?---and when he kept her hand, pulling her in for another kiss, one filled with more longing than she’d ever known, she could have melted in that happiness. If this moment never ended, she’d have no regrets. Even if this moment wasn’t real, she couldn’t bring herself to mind, not as his hands began to move over neck and shoulders, exploring her body with touches of fire and a gentle sort of electricity that had her blood boiling.
She didn’t even notice when she’d crawled over him, straddling his hips and leaning into him until they were laying on the bed, her fingers tangling in his hair, the color of sunsets and autumn leaves. When he rolled his hips up against hers, his hands settling on her waist, tendrils of fire bloomed at her core, enveloping her in the sort of warmth that had her rocking back, eager for more of that contact, for more of that heat, for more of him.
It was in a sort of daze that she found herself removing his shirt and pants, pausing only long enough to sigh in anticipation as Tristepin took the hint greedily, helping her with her own until they were both naked. And it was with this realization that, for the first time, Eva felt embarrassed, actually making to pull out of his lap out of reflex. But Tristepin held her there, letting one hand trace her side, brushing lightly past one pert breast.
“You,” he whispered, that hand traveling up her arm, along her shoulder and collarbone, to her neck, thumb tracing her jaw with a sort of awe that made Evangeline embarrassed in a very different way. “Are perfect.” He grinned, thumb tracing her bottom lip, Eva entranced by his movements, the way his eyes traveled her naked body, both of them completely open, completely vulnerable, and completely content. “To think that you, strong and beautiful Eva, would be with me…” He closed his eyes, smiling. And then, for a split second, the smile shifted into something more curious, teasing. “I am with you… yes?”
Eva knew what he was asking at once. It wasn’t a debate on their relationship at all, but rather a shout back to her fears, to see whether she believed him yet. And while it was still in the corner of her mind, coercing her irrationally, she realized that she did believe him. So she nodded, offering a soft spoken, “Yes.” To which Tristepin responded with an expectedly enthusiastic smile and unexpectedly touching embrace, holding her to him with an intimacy she hadn’t thought him capable of.
She easily melted into that embrace, the heat of their touching skin lighting a fire within her, reawakening that need that she couldn’t control, couldn’t get enough of. With barely any hesitation, she let her hand slip between them until she felt hard, unfamiliar flesh, Tristepin’s breath catching at her touch. And his eyes widening as he felt himself suddenly lined up with her entrance.
“Are you sure?” he whispered, voice soft, tentative, his concern for her well-being obvious and admirable, just like him. But she didn’t need concern right now. She needed him. She needed to be connected to him in a way that shattered all doubt, in a way that made real everything she felt, everything she wanted. So she nodded and whispered back.
“Please.”
The fire in his eyes then was enough to send her heart into a frenzy, her pulse racing as he began to carefully, steadily push into her. She wrapped her arms around the back of his neck, back arching until he was buried completely, sheathed to the hilt in her tightness, a mix of pain, pleasure, and a less tangible but equally as present bliss overwhelming her senses. With no little amount of effort, she relaxed around him, shifting her weight until that feeling of being so filled was replaced by a persistent urge to move. So she did, Tristepin groaning into the crook of her neck, wrapping his arms around her tighter, hands tracing the curves of her back, shoulders, hips.
“So good…” he half groaned, half chuckled. Eva’s heart fluttered childishly at that, a blush rising to her cheeks as she moved again, using the support of his embrace to lift herself almost completely off of his before lowering herself back down at a slightly quicker pace, a flash of pleasure incarnate tickling her senses as she did so.
“Nghn… Ah!” Eva bit her lip, leaning back some to find that spot again, the one connected to that brilliant sensation. She interlaced her fingers together behind his neck and began to rock her hips, shuddering when she found it, the perfect angle, picking up the pace enough that the threat of release was soon just within her reach. Vaguely she noticed Tristepin’s fingers gripping and loosening on her waist and shoulder, like he was trying to keep from hurting her. She smiled, keeping her hands on the back of his neck to pull him forward, kissing him messily but deeply as she came, muscles tensing and sparks flying behind her eyes as the feeling took her, her whole world stopping on that perfect moment when the added tightness of her release wrenched Tristepin over the edge with her, both of them reveling in sensation and completion and a togetherness that was beyond words. It was so all encompassing that, once the initial shock to her system faded, she realized she’d collapsed into his arms, trembling slightly in the aftershocks of pleasure.
As careful and gentle as always, Tristepin pulled out of her, keeping her in his arms as he lay down, both of them panting, both of them exhausted, and both of them the happiest they’d ever been. Or so Eva assumed, what with the way the Iop was smiling.
“Amazing, Eva,” he stretched, eyes already closing lazily, the sleep of the well sexed tempting them both, the image of him hazy around the edges as she began to drift off herself. Her heart spiked at the thought, eyes snapping open, something Pinpin didn’t fail to notice, his hand already resting tenderly on her cheek. “Close your eyes, my love. I promise you, I’m not going anywhere.”
It took a second for her heart to slow again, but eventually, she nodded, kissing the palm of his hand before closing her eyes and nestling into his side. Sleep was waiting for her almost impatiently, reminding her of how poorly she’d slept since this had all began. It took no effort at all this time, the feel of his arms around her like a blanket, keeping her warm and safe. He was back. He was really back. She found herself involuntarily repeating that as unconsciousness took her. And she believed it. She really, truly did.
