The hot midday sun beams down onto the yellow and tan rocks of the Australian Outback, the few patches of grass and trees around are being blown around by a fierce wind. Very Few animals are showing themselves right now, the weather is too intense, they know better, especially in this rocky part of the outback.
The traitorous rocky hills of this area have always been a dangerous area and recently it’s been worse. People would vanish from this area of the Outback on occasion but over the course of the last three months it’s been worse. Not only have people gone missing but bodies have been found, ten male bodies, dead and torn apart, eaten. The teeth marks were almost human in nature yet at the same time unlike any creature known to man, well most men.
In the distance two forms appear, two humans carrying a bunch of supplies, food, water, shelter, climbing supplies, big huge guns. They are researchers of the unknown, cryptozoologists and secret scientists. They are the people called on find out what goes bump in the night and put a stop on it. They are Doc and Drew Saturday husband and wife.
Doc is a large man, around seven feet tall and well build, he has dark skin and blue eyes, but one eye is dead. His hair is two colors, a dark brown with a white patch in the middle. Doc looks like a force to be reckoned with and with his strength enhancing glove he is, but he’s the calm one. He’s not the dangerous one.
No Drew is the dangerous one. She is a very attractive looking woman, and very strong too, she is around six feet four inches, and has a tones strong body, and silver white hair. She is a trained fighter, a scientist and a mystic. She fights with a magical fire sword, has a more open mind then her logical husband but she has a bit of a short temper.
Drew walks over to a large rock that is covered by some shade and sits down, “I think we should take a rest for a couple hours dear. I don’t know about you but I’m hungry.”
Doc looks up in the sky and sees that the sun is directly above them, its noon, which means they have been walking for about six hours none stop without any luck. “Yeah your right.” Doc takes a seat by his wife and unloads his bag.
Drew takes out a bag of dried meat and opens in it, she hands Doc a piece, “We are reaching Harpy Territory, and we knew it might have been them but that’s not right.”
“I know Harpies normally don’t eat humans but we saw the evidence, those wounds were defiantly bird like and human like in origin. That points to Harpies. What I’m wondering is why have only male body’s been found. At least twice as many women have gone missing in the same area and the same time and none of their bodies have been found. Where are the women?”
Drew looks out into the rocky hills in the distance, she thinks she sees a bird fly close them, yet the bird looks weird. It is joined by a few more birds and they fly a few circles before they vanish. Doc taps Drew on the shoulder, “Hey did you hear me.”
“Huh,” Drew looks into her Husband’s eyes, “yeah I heard you. Those women, their safety comes first. I’m just glad Zak’s not with us. He’s strong and I know he can’t hide him from this forever but I don’t want him to see too many horrible deaths so early in his life.”
“Yeah but Doyle? Is that really a good choice? I mean I have come to respect your brother but he’s not really a good influence.”
“He’s the best influence given the situation dear. It is for the best that Zak knows how the likes of Argost and Van Rook think, my brother knows.”
“That’s what scares me Drew.” Doc kisses his wife on the lips, “That is why I decided to come here. I need to get my mind off Zak, Doyle and the ‘training’ he is putting our son though right now. But this might be a bit much.”
After about an hour’s rest, Doc and Drew feel ready to continue on. They know that Harpies tend to live in rocky areas; the harder it is to travel the more likely it is to find Harpies. They tend to live away from humans but given the strange behavior Doc and Drew are investigating for all they know the Harpies moved out into the open.
The further in the outback the two go the worse the heat of the sun gets, and the dried grass gives way to mostly dirt and rocks. The two pass a few isolated pools of water, most of them are stagnate and hardly drinkable, and above their heads vultures circle them.
Doc puts his hand over his eyes to block out some of the sun and to get a better look at the ‘vultures’ circling them, “Drew, those birds.”
“Huh?” Drew looks up and squints, “I see them dear, Harpies.”
“They have been circling us for over an hour now. At first there was one, now there are four of them.” He says as they keep walking. He motions for Drew to act like nothing strange is going on. “The one with blue feathers, she seems to be the leader.”
Drew continues walking beside her Husband, following his lead, “Yeah I can tell by the way she is moving, she is commanding the others to follow her.”
“Right, for now they are letting us be, watching us. I think it’s because they know we are looking for them. Harpies are smart cryptids, humanoid; we should not under estimate them. Let’s wait for them to make the first move.”
“Is that smart?”
“I don’t know but I don’t see an alternative.”
As the two cryptozoologists reach a large rock formation, one that seems to build into a rocky canyon the Harpies begin to fly away, Doc and Drew take that as a hint that the Harpies are about to act so they tense up.
They walk about twenty feet further when a quick gust of wind zooms past over head. There is then another gush, to the right of them with a blue of red following it. Then to the left a blast of wind zooms by with a green streak. The so called gusts of wind slow down and show themselves to be three harpies, one with yellow hair and feathers, one with red hairs and feathers and one with green hair and feathers. Doc is about to say something when he is knocks to the ground as a strong wind knocks him and Drew in different directions.
Doc shakes his head, spits dirt out of his mouth and then stands up. He looks to where Drew should be but nothing is there, “Drew?”
“Hehehe. Over here”, A sweet, seductive, and yet strong voice calls. Doc turns his head toward the Harpies; their leader is now standing in front of Red, Yellow and Green. This harpy (like the other three) is completely naked, tall and thin. Her body is a perfect hour glass shape, and her skin is smooth and flawless. The leader has light blue hair and matching feathers. Her arms double as her wings, the feathers reach down to her clawed hands and on her chest. They stop just before her large breasts. Her legs, are long and covered with blue feathers as well, the feathers stop close to her feet which are shaped like the clawed feet of a bird. Her face is perfect like the rest of her, large lips, large eyes of the darker blue color then her feathers.
In her right clawed hand is Drew, and her left hand is over her mouth preventing her from making a sound. Doc looks into his wife’s eyes and sees that she is not really scared but that she’s pissed. Doc smiles at his wife and takes a step back.
Drew reaches for her sword with her free hand and pulls it out. The power of the flame sword is intensified as the intense Australian heat beams down on it. Flames pore out of the sword in an intense blue color. The Harpy is blinded and moves one hand away from Drew while the other hand tightens its grip. Drew pushes with her lets and pushes herself free, however the right shirt sleeve is ripped as is Drew’s hand as the Harpy refuses to let her go until the last second.
Drew tumbles to the ground hard and looks at her left hand, it is bleeding from where the Harpy’s claws dug into her skin. Her sight suddenly becomes blurry and she loses strength in her right arm. Her arm collapses under her weight and a second later she passes out.
Doc runs over by his wife’s side and quickly presses his fingers up to her neck, He sigh’s with relief when he discovers she is still alive. Doc turns his attention to the lead harpy; he presses a button next to his glove. His glove grows a little and glows, “You.” He then charges at the harpy leader.
The queen flies strait up in the air as Doc blindly charges her, she hovers over him as he stops in his tracks and glares at her, “You can’t touch me Dahling” she says with a strong accent that Doc pinpoints as similar to that of Australian aborigines, which to be honest does not surprise him.
Doc jumps up and grabs on her to her leg. He then creates enough momentum to push himself up in the air. He closes his fist and slams it into the Harpy’s face. He then jumps down from her and lands next to his wife, “That’s for Drew.”
The Harpy queen manages to get control of her body before she hits the ground. She has great balance and with a few flaps of her wings she manages to focus herself again. She moves over to Doc as he lands and smiles at him, “You’re strong and you have great will power, you will do.” She then quickly moves over to him and with a flap of her powerful wing sends Doc Flying.
Doc tumbling in mid air watches as the world around him starts spinning. Due to disorientation he does not know when exactly he lost consciousness, it could have been before or after he finally hit the ground. The Harpy Queen flies over to where Doc landed and lands. She then lifts the large man with ease and throws him over her shoulder, “I have a good feeling about this one. He is strong and willful; he might be the mate I have been searching for.” She returns to the air, Doc’s weight slowing her down only slightly. She motions for her sisters. “Grab her, she will make a flawless addition to our family and return to our home.”
The three nod to their queen and head toward Drew. The queen heads off before her sisters to set things up, first a transformation and then when the moon is full a mating, this could be her last chance, she can’t fail this time.
