Kim Possible: The Price. Today was the day she thought, it had finally come. Nine years two months and 3days, a long time for such a young person. She was older now, not so naïve. Her memories of the day the sentence had been passed down were still vividly alive in her mind. On that day she knew things were not going to be pleasant, the reporters had not let the family alone for one moment. Just getting to the court was a challenge for all involved. In the end it was to be a long sentence but due to her prior good deeds things changed. Many spoke on her behalf on how the world was a better place due to her involvement and so the sentence was reduced. Now she had done her time and now a new world awaited her.
Across the yard she watched as her fellow prison mates played catch, caught a breath of fresh air; jogged or just generally caught up on things. Many read, some did physical activities; which was more in her line. She had put most of her energies into keeping her body prime. She watched what she ate and did the necessary exercises to keep up her shape. To describe her she would be one of those fitness women, with firm muscles and a definite six pack. She had of late started to get into the heavier weights and it showed, her arms showed the power of the muscles beneath them. As she watched a familiar face sat down beside her on the picnic table, one she had gotten to know quite well. “Hello green.” She had given her that pet name a few years back and well she didn’t seem to be bothered by it so it stuck. “Red.” Shego replied, “Today’s your day huh.” “Yup, I say goodbye to these prison walls that contain me.” She looked Shego over, she was older now, her hair had begun to gray in certain areas. It looked good on her, she still was a power house though and still stirred up the occasional trouble. “I just came over to say...well...I’m sorry.” Shego said looking at the ground, trying not to look at Kim. “Sorry for what?” Kim said in question, nothing had happened between them in years. “That first fight.” “That...Shego that was a long time ago.” She used her real name to try and get her to look her way. Shego turned and faced her young foe, “Oh I really had to say it.” “For what... it was a given that we’d have it out; everyone knew.” It was a given due to their history. “That’s true but I instigated it really early...I...I had to; for your sake.” Kim tilted her head in question, “What do you mean by that?” Shego sighed, “Kim I’d been in this prison before and I had seen what the women do to the younger ones and I didn’t want that to happen to you. So I knew if I could start the fight of all fights then they would leave you alone...” she paused and took a deep breath, “so I pushed every button I could to get you to let it all out; I knew I’d lose and I was going to hurt because of it but in the end I knew it would save you.” Kim gulped, she thought about how things were after and... “It worked.” She said softly, just enough for Shego to hear. She had hurt Shego to the point of...she didn’t want to think about it. “You really did go all out, ...I still feel the pain...sometimes.” Shego lied she felt pain every day, especially her leg. Kim had broken both her arms and destroyed her right knee; it had to be replaced. It wasn’t the same after, it ached all the time, it needed a proper brace but the prison wouldn’t pay for one. She also had to have two ribs removed and repair a collapsed lung. She was in the hospital for more than two months recovering almost at the brink of not making it. Kim didn’t escape unscathed but she was younger and recovered quickly. She returned to the prison first and she could see the change in the way the inmates looked at her. She had gained a respect that no one was going to take away from her. In fact she gained a lot of friends in the end, ones that felt they needed protection and they knew who was queen now. “Shego...I don’t what to say...I’m...” “Don’t apologize...I only want one thing from you.” Shego said looking at her directly. “When you leave here you forget about this place. It’s a bad memory so forget it, go out in the world and do good. You’re still a possible and the world needs you.” “Shego its...its not the same...you know.” “I know it isn’t but the world needs someone like you; someone to take care of it and you’re that person.” “I don’t know about that.” Kim stared away from Shego, she wasn’t sure about anything anymore. Anne Possible readied herself; for their final trip to blasted place that held her daughter captive for far too long. It wasn’t fair the wretched news people made this a fiasco that landed Kim right in the middle of a war of words more than deeds. She had saved the world over and over again, did that not count for anything! She sighed, she was getting angry at things that were long in the past; this was to be a happy day. In the mirror she saw her husband come up behind her. “Time to go.” He said. “Good its about time we brought our little girl home.” Anne said looking at herself in the mirror trying to put some lipstick on. “She’s not our little girl anymore Anne.” She stopped in mid stroke, “James she will never stop being our little girl, she needs us more than ever now.” James sighed. “You have noticed the difference in her Anne, she’s grown up in a big way. One I never thought would have had happen to her.” Anne turned to her husband, “She was wronged, they never should have sent her to prison.” James looked into his wife’s eyes and saw the anger there. She never forgave the jury for convicting their daughter. “Anne its all water under the bridge, we’ll have to take each day as it comes.” Anne just looked at him and then said something he wasn’t expecting, “We are going to tell her...right.” James knew what she was talking about but was undecided about what to do at that moment, “I’m...undecided about that dear; I’m really not sure it’s a good idea.” Anne stared directly into her husbands eyes and said, “We are going to tell her and let the chips fall where they may.” “But...” “James you know the trouble we went through and what almost happened.” “You don’t have to remind me.” He was silent for a moment, “We will tell her but not right away, Ok. We have to be very careful how we handle this situation. She is not going to take the news well, I’m afraid.” Anne Possible knew what would probably happen, “I know, lets go get Kim.” Kim sat silently with Shego, “You know...after all this I think I have come to the realization that we have become friends on a certain level.” “Heh.” Shego laughed softly, “You know I think you are right Red.” It had been awhile since she actually smiled, life here hadn’t been too easy. After her defeat she was a prime target for many of stronger women in the prison. She had fought and won back her respect but it had cost her in many ways. The power that coursed through her body was now attacking her immune systems; it made her prone to colds and sickness. The others knew this and it was only time now that she would be too weak to fight off any attack. Shego was hated by many, she had abused her power to gain control of the prison but now, she was the prey. A sad point came to her mind, “I’m sorry about Drakken, I just heard a couple of days ago.” “I always thought he’d survive no matter what but I guess I was wrong.” Shego said softly. “It was because you were there, you kept him in check; without you well...” “Yeah I guess you are right there.” Shego took Kim’s hand and gave it a gentle squeeze, “Do good Possible, I know you can do it.” She let go and got up and walked away slowly. Kim was going to go after her but she guessed she had made her peace it seemed. Now all she had to do was live up to what she wanted her to do. She wasn’t sure if she could do it all again, not without the pain. She wondered the time, she couldn’t see the yards clock from where she sat so she moved so she could see. She wanted to get out of this place as soon as she could and begin her new life outside the prison walls. An hour to go, she knew her mother and father would want to be on time if not early; so she knew they were on there way. She made her way back to her cell, she wanted to be alone for a bit. She thought about all the things that had happened and if there was anyway things could have turned out differently. Everything came back negative, there was nothing she could think of and she cried. The doors opened and she walked by the guards that were protected behind thick meshed glass. It was the first time in a long time she had seen this part of the prison. The last time was when she entered into this other world of concrete and hollow walls. Now it was for the last time she hoped beyond she saw her parents awaiting in the parking lot by their car. No vehicles were allowed close to the prison walls, barricades were in place to prevent such incidents. Her walk was short and at the end hugs were exchanged, much needed ones. She had wanted to hug her mother all those times she visited but there was no way they were going allow any physical contact what so ever. “Lets get out of here.” She said in a triumphant voice, it was time to go. Anne nodded, “Yes lets make this place a distant memory.” The ride was a quiet one, not one word was spoken or even muttered; whether that was a good thing Anne and her husband didn’t really know. As Kim entered walked into the only home she had known things felt different; it lacked something. The dweebs, they weren’t here. “How are the twins doing?” Kim said as she sat on a new couch her parents had bought, she had seen the pictures her mother had shown her. She threw her bag on the floor, there wasn’t very much in it. All of her things were still here; she had thought about many things that she knew were destined for the charity bins. Her clothes were all too small for her now, almost everything she had; it wasn’t fair she had some really nice stuff. “They’re good, still in England doing some research.” “Ah... I was wondering, seems I’m a bit behind on all the news.” Anne smiled it was good to have at least on her children back under her roof. “I’m glad you’re here, do you feel like anything?” Kim thought about it, “Some juice if you have it.” Kim wondered where her dad had gotten, he didn’t come in with them. She got up and looked out the front window and saw her dad looking under the hood of the car. She went out to see what the fuss was. “Everything ok?” “No a light came on when we turned the corner and I’m not sure what exactly its for?” Kim looked over the motor with her dad and finally saw the loose connector that she was sure generated the error light. She plugged it back in. “Try the car now dad.” She said. James Possible got in and turned the key, the car roared to life but no lights appeared to his relief. “No lights.” “Figured as much.” She closed the hood and waited for her dad to join her. “You ok.” She said as he walked up beside her. He took her hand, “Yes, so so...you know we tried everything we could; don’t you?” He said softly to her. She squeezed his hand, it seemed her dad had regrets, “I know you and mom did everything possible...heh for a possible.” She smiled, “I’m glad to be home.” He hugged her tight, it had been a long time since he had her in his arms, it was a good feeling. “Its good to have you back.” “I’m glad to be back.”End Of Chapter One.
