Chapter 1: The Waiting
It has been a week since the Joes broke into a Cobra base and rescued Scarlett. When Snake Eyes came running out of the compound carrying Scarlett wrapped in bloody fatigues, it was like he was carrying a precious package. The team was able to blow the complex without any other injuries, but Scarlett’s kidnapping and rescue shook everyone. Her condition, when rescued, was so bad that by the time the team got her back to base, the medic had to induce a coma to keep her stable. Her injuries were substantial but the doctor was sure of her recovery. It was while Snake Eyes was in debriefing when the chaos hit.
“Doc, can you tell us how bad she is?” Duke asked.
“Her injuries are serious enough that she will be out of it for a few weeks even after we bring her out of the coma. There were no signs of rape but she was beaten and whipped severely. She is going to need a lot of rest and support.” The doctor replied.
“Is there any chance of her waking up soon?” inquired Ripcord.
“She should be out for another couple hours before the meds wear off but she won’t be moved for several days. I have to go check on her then start my rounds but I will keep you informed.”
“Thanks Doc.” Duke said before turning to Ripcord and Heavy Duty to discuss the Intel they just received from command. They were about to board the elevator when alarms started sounding and a whole bunch of nurses and the doctor they were just talking to ran into Scarletts room. They quickly ran to see what the problem was, when they entered the room all they saw was panicking nurses and an empall they saw was panicking nurses and an empty bed.
“Where the hell is she?!” Heavy Duty exclaimed.
“She was just here. I peeked in and saw her but when I turned around all her alarms started to sound and she was running towards the window. I don’t understand, she shouldn’t have been able to wake up let alone jump out a window.” The RN cried.
Duke grabbed the guys and dragged them out of the room so that they could talk privately. “She has got to be running scared. She might not realize she was rescued. So she might be escaping what she thinks is Mindbender’s lab. So where would she go if she had no way of contacting us and is in enemy territory?”
“I don’t know. That would be more of Snake Eye’s territory. They have been training a lot together up until she was kidnapped. But I don’t know if he would know where she would go, and he is in debriefing right now so I don’t know how we can start the search.” Heavy Duty replied.
“You get the team started searching and I will get Snake Eyes out of debriefment. Move Out.” Duke says before turning around and heading out of the building.
Ripcord turned to Heavy Duty and shrugged before getting on the radio with base to call out a team.
Duke knocked on the conference room door and was bid entry.
“Soldier, you do understand that you are interrupting a very important meeting, this better be good.” General Hawk groused out.
“Yes sir it is. Scarlett escaped from her room.” At this point Snake Eyes and the rest of the room got to their feet and were listening intently. “She apparently woke from her coma still thinking that she was in Cobra’s lair, so she unhooked all her monitors and as a nurse ran in she jumped out the window and took off. We need Snake Eyes to track her. He is our best shot at finding her.”
General Hawk turned to Snake Eyes and he nodded so the General looked back to Duke and gave his ok. “You have my permission to track and retrieve Scarlett but once you secure her we need you back in debriefing. Be careful and make this quick. We want her back safely. Dismissed.”
“Good luck Snake, you’ll need it.” Duke said as Snake Eyes brushed past him.
‘I’ll find her. I’m just worried about her state of mind.’ Snake Eyes thought. Snake Eyes grabbed his gear and started tracking. He found a trail heading towards the mountains. As he entered the woods at the base of the mountain he also saw blood, it was leaving a trail up the mountain and he spotted a cave about midway up. He knew that’s where she was.
