The Monkey’s Wrath
Like a sentry, she stood perfectly still; her fighting stance exhibited no flaws. Her foes surrounded her in a tight, compacted circle which left no room for escape. Not that she wanted to, she preferred to have it this way. After all, this is what Yori has trained at the Yamanouchi School for.
The sun was now barely visible over the horizon, as the clear sky burned a bright orange. A gentle breeze drifted through the landscape, but it did nothing to cool the heated standoff. Yori counted her enemies again. She did so twice before, but performed it again to assure her plan of attack remained flawless. The ninja surrounding her narrowed their eyes, as did she. And, with a quick shuffle & a slight flinch…they attacked.
What followed next was a display of grace & power that would bring a tear to the eye of any martial artist. One by one, she disabled her foes with kicks and strikes that sent them lifelessly to the ground. It took less than a minute for her to completely dismantle their attack, and leave an unconscious pile of ninja at her feet.
“You showed several flaws in your attack.” She told them. “You should train harder so that you may…”
“YORI!!!”
Her head darted back toward the sunset, in the direction of the voice of authority. Yori spotted her Sensei slowly exiting his dojo, descending the few steps that lead up to it. She quickly rushed to his side.
“I am here, Sensei!” She acknowledged, bowing in respect.
“Yes, that is the problem.” Sensei replied. “Why do you continuously thrash my students? You have been at it for 5 hours.”
“I…just wished to test their training.” Yori responded.
“Their training will be tested by me when I see fit.” Sensei informed. “You should be preparing yourself for your journey. Have you packed all of your belongings?”
Yori averted her eyes for a moment, hesitant to speak the words she is about to say. “Sensei…about my journey. I believe that my skills are of more value here. The students do not yet seem prepared…”
Suddenly, she was interrupted by the sound of violent coughing. Her sight caught Master Sensei doubled over in pain, and she quickly ran over to assist. “SENSEI!!!”
His hand shot up, halting her, indicating he is alright as the coughing ceased. “Yori…you are my brightest pupil, as well as the finest ninja the Yamanouchi School has ever produced. Your skills are needed far more outside these walls, than they are inside. Now, arrange your belongings, for your transportation shall arrive in the morning.”
With a silent, heartfelt sigh, she bowed in agreement. “Yes, Sensei.”
With great reluctance, she turned and headed off toward her quarters. Truth be told, her belongings were already packed, for over 6 hours. But Yori just couldn’t bear leaving the school which had become her home. She journeyed away from it plenty of times before, even to venture abroad. But this time, she felts it was for good…and her heart was heavy over it.
The landscape was nearly pitch-black in the southern region of Japan, several miles from the outskirts of Tokyo. No life existed there, not even those who would choose a simple country life over city living take up residence, leaving the countryside barren. The land was peaceful, serene…and violently shaking
Earthquake vibrations rumbled through the landside, as through the darkness, a lone figure dashed across the plain; a monkey, wearing a specially-made white ninja shozoku. He braved the aggressive tremors and showed incredible balance & dexterity as he persistently journeyed to his location…one spot, in the middle of nowhere.
The primate stopped at that spot, and waited.
The wait wasn’t for long though, as a fault line split open along the ground, and a frightening red glow emanated from within. A hand then appeared from the depths, digging its fingers into the ground for a firm hold. Another one followed, accompanied by the sounds of struggling & grunting. The back of the hands were decisively hairy, looking as if they belonged to a primate of some sort…and they did.
Lord Monty Fiske, former British nobleman and evil villain that was presumed dead, victim of the Yono curse. But as he pulled himself free from the pits of the earth and onto solid ground, it is obvious that rumors of his death were greatly exaggerated. He brushed himself off and stood firm, his appearance changed from his last moments ‘on’ Earth. Over his tradition black Monkey Fu gi was a long, jet-black robe with broad shoulders, and ‘Monkey Fist’ in Japanese symbols on his back.
He took a deep breath, and exhaled. “I…have returned.”
The monkey ninja addressed his master, welcoming him home.
“I am pleased that you remembered the spot of my descent into the Earth. Good work.” Monkey Fist replied.
The monkey responded with a question, one that brought a devious grin to Monkey Fist’s face.
“I have learned the Way of the Yono.” He answered, as he clenched his fists and held them at chest-level. “Though the path was brutal & longer than I had expected. How long was I gone?”
The monkey addressed him again, answering his question.
“A year…” Monkey Fist was somewhat put off by the elapsed time frame, but quickly disregarded it. “No matter. Now that I have returned, I must seek out the very reason why I was sent down below. Then I will drain the Chosen One’s energy, taking it for my own so that I will be the strongest warrior this planet has ever witness!”
He took his first step on the journey, when his primate assistant screeched out, almost in warning. Monkey Fist put a hand to his chin, and thought.
“You are right…” He uttered in response. “…no doubt my path will cross with his. Then so be it; rather than to wait for our inevitable reunion, I shall go and pay him a visit…one filled with agony and despair beyond anything he can ever imagine.”
The devious grin grew into a sadistic smirk as he spoke those words, almost in unbridled joy for the opportunity. He didn’t want to waste one more moment, and strode forward with amazing speed, crossing the landscape faster than a cheetah chasing its prey. Even more surprising is the monkey ninja, who was able to keep up with his master, step for step, as they rushed towards their destiny.
“WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
Ron woke up screaming, a cold sweat covering his face as his chest heaved and he tried to catch his breath. Unfortunately for him, he wasn’t in his bed, or even in his own home. He was sitting second row from the front in a Physics class at Upperton Tech; and his vocal awakening grabbed the attention of everyone in the room, including the professor.
“O…K, you alright man?”
Ron turned to his left to see one of his friends, Felix, looking at him with concern. It was then that Ron realized where he was.
“Uh, yeah…yeah!” He blurted out. “Just a bad dream man, nothing serious.” He then rose to his feet and addressed his classmates. “Uh, sorry about that! I didn’t mean to…disrupt the…learning…process thing. My Bad!”
An innocent smile wrapped around his face as he sat back down at his desk. The professor of the class just raised a confused eyebrow. “Well…Mr. Stoppable’s fear of the Pythagorean Theorem aside…”
He continued teaching his course to the students, but Felix remained concerned about his friend. “Ron, are you really OK?” He asked. “This is like the third time this week you’ve woken up screaming, and they’re getting more public each time.”
Unable to hide it from his friend, Ron sighed and sunk his head into his hands. “It’s just…I’ve been having these weird dreams.” Ron explained. “It’s like, someone’s coming after me. Or is about to come after me, but they shouldn’t even be able to…”
“What like a villain?” Felix inquired. “Well, Drakken’s turned into a good guy and…actually, dude you’ve never told me about all the bad guys you & Kim faced.”
Ron shook his head inside of his hands. “Dude, there are too many to name now and…”
“And Finally…”
The professor’s voice drew out Ron’s head from hiding, and he looked to see what he has to say. “…since I will be taking my 2-week vacation beginning Monday, I thought it best me to introduce your substitute.”
He motioned towards the door as it opened wide to reveal a large man…one Ron & Felix are very knowledgeable of. Especially Ron.
“MR. BARKIN!?!?!?” Ron & Felix yelled.
“Alright class, listen up!” Barkin began. “While your old professor takes his yearly standard va-ca, I will be holding down the fort. We will not deviate from curriculum, NOT in the slightest! So if you think this is going to be some kind of walk in the PARK…it isn’t.”
He scanned the classroom like a security camera, mentally taking down what types of students he’ll have to deal with. Unfortunately, his eyes stopped once a familiar pupil was in his vision. “STOPPABLE! What in the name of the U.S. Educational System are you doing in a PHYSICS class!?”
Ron wanted to ask him the exact same thing, but made a much wiser decision. “Hey, I need the credits. Besides, my scholarship said this class was necessary.”
“Ah, your football scholarship, of course.” Barkin recalled, remembering back to Ron’s Football Star days last year. “Well, in that case, you should be able to give me the solution to this problem. When…”
Thankfully for the blonde teen, mercy stepped in as the sound of an electronic jingle indicated the end of class, and the school day. “Uh, sorry Mr. B. Can’t do it now, got Football practice. SEE YA!!!”
Like a rocket Ron shot from his desk and out of the door, out of range from Mr. Barkin’s influence…but not his voice.
“THAT’S 20 LAPS FOR YOU THIS MONDAY, STOPPABLE!!!”
As he walked down the hallway, his backpack slung over his shoulder, Ron sighed to himself. “Yeah, what else is new?”
“Dude, wait up.” Ron glanced to his left as Felix rolled up beside him. “No offense man, but you look brutal. Are your dreams really that bad?”
“It…it’s not just the dreams, man.” Ron told him. “It’s like, the last few days, everything that could go wrong for me, has. I think I’ve officially run out of luck.”
BEEP-BEEP-BEDEEP!
The familiar ringtone interrupted Ron, but also gave him a ray of hope. “Or maybe not.” He said as he pulled out his Kimmunicator and answered the call. “KP!”
“Hey, Ron…” She answered, appearing on screen.
“Glad to hear from you.” He told her. “So when will you be home tonight? Because I got—!”
“Actually, that’s what I’m calling about.” She interrupted. “Remember that fashion critic we saved from the Fashionistas?”
“Mr. Bluewell?” Ron asked.
“Yeah. You see, he’s quite insistent on repaying me.” Kim continued. “So, he’s taking me & Monique on a shopping spree of Paris for two more days.”
The news was a devastating blow to Ron’s confidence, but he tried not to show it, not to his girl. “OK. Yeah…that’s cool. Have fun…”
Just then, Monique’s voice is overheard coming from off the screen. “CODE RED! He says he can get us Manolo Blahniks at HALF-PRICE!!”
Her arm then began to pull at Kim, but still the redheaded spy managed to say goodbye. “I’ll get you some new clothes, too. Bye, Ron. Love—!”
Click.
And with that, the communiqué went dead, along with Ron’s hope of reestablishing any amount of luck. “Yeah…you too…” He muttered. “It’s official, Ron Stoppable has lucked out.”
“Being a little harsh, aren’t ya?” Felix chimed in. “Tell you what, how about you come over my house tonight, and we can have a Video Game all-nighter. Got the latest copy of ‘Zombie Stompers VI’…”
Intrigued, Ron turned to his friend. “But, I thought you were gonna hang with Zita tonight.”
“Eh, she’s still visiting her grandmother.” He replied. “Come on. Guys Night In, it’s just what you need.”
Ron took a moment to think about it. The last thing he wanted was to head back to his dorm room to be alone, especially with Kim being gone for two more days. “OK…I’m in.” Ron agreed. “I mean hell, it’s not like my luck can get any worse…”
The sunrise was just peeking over the horizon in the land of the east, but already students of the Yamanouchi Academy were awake as they prepared themselves for a day of rigorous training. All except one…Yori. Carrying a large drawstring bag filled with her worldly possessions (and clothes), she approached Master Sensei’s dojo, ready to bid a fond farewell to her beloved teacher, mentor & father figure.
“I…am about to depart, Sensei…” She said, her words almost choked out.
Sensei sat with his back to her. He strongly felt her reluctance to leave, but was proud of her decision to do so. “I know you do not agree now, my child, but you will understand how this will make you a better warrior.”
Yori nodded in response. “Yes, Sensei.”
Grabbing hold of his walking stick on the floor beside him, he slowly rose to his feet and prepared to face his prized pupil. “Like the mother eagle must teach her young to spread their wings from the nest, so must you…spread…yours…”
“SENSEI!!!”
Before her eyes, Yori saw her teacher lose his balance, and quickly rushed to his side, catching him before he hit the floor. Trembling uncontrollably, he looked up into his student’s eyes, and gave the reason for his sudden shock.
“A great evil…has returned…”
This is what Yori feared, and why she was so hesitant to depart the school grounds. In her mind, she thanked herself for holding off her departure, because she was there to fight it.
“Do not worry, Sensei.” She told him, as he regained his balance. “I will fight with my life to defend the Yamanouchi from…”
“NO!” The Asian girl turned to her teacher in shock as he finished his revelation. “A great evil has returned, but it is not coming here.” Yori becomes confused as Sensei continues. “It has come for…the Chosen One.”
Her heart skipped a beat, and her skin turned pale white. It was far more serious than she could’ve ever guessed. Sensei’s revelation made it clear; she knew then just who the great evil was…and his target.
“Stoppable-san.”
Sensei nodded his head, confirming Yori’s deduction. With speed, she scooped up her drawstring bag and slung it over her shoulder. Before exiting, she took one last look back at Master Sensei, who pointed out past the doorway, outside into the world.
“Go!”
“Yes, Sensei!”
And she did. Her legs carried her faster than she ever ran before. The Yamanouchi Academy was far behind her within moments, but she didn’t care about that anymore. She had a purpose to be out in the world now…to defeat the great evil, and save Ron Stoppable.
“Go, my child!” Sensei yelled out to her as he sat down to meditate. “For I fear…young Stoppable will need your help…now more than ever.”
“Yep, my luck meter is running on empty.”
Ron hauled yet another huge crate of dog kibble from the back storage of Smarty-Mart, determined that that is the reason for his current situation. 10:46pm was the time on the clock, and every Smarty-Mart employee had made their leave to enjoy their Friday night either on the town or with friends. Ron would’ve been right there too; but as luck would, or wouldn’t have it, he drew Friday Night Overtime, which meant stacking the front of the store display…by himself
“ACK! Geez…” He grunted. “…how many dogs are in Upperton anyway?” Finally at the display, he dropped the crate right by several others, completing the set. He then stumbles back and breathed a sigh of relief, wiping his brow. “You know, more people should invest in Naked Mole Rats as their pets. It saves a lot of trouble.”
BEEP-BEEP-BEDEEP!
The sound of his Kimmunicator going off startled Ron as he pulled it out and answered the call. “Kim?”
“No, it’s Wade.” The gifted wonder whiz kid, now a Straight A high school senior after skipping several grades, appeared on the screen. “Where are you, Felix said you were supposed to be at his house two hours ago.”
“I’m still at work.” Ron answered, as he made his walk back to the storage area. “I got pulled in for overtime. You know, I think the universe has it out for me now, especially with what I’ve gone through today.”
“Rough.” Wade replied. “Well, you’re luck’s bound to change soon.”
“Yeah, not soon enough.” Ron muttered under his breath. He shuts the double doors in front of him and padlocked a chain around the handles, securing them. “Finally, I’m done.”
“Need a ride to Felix’s?” Wade offered.
“Nah, I can get back there. Later, Wade.” He ended his conversation and dropped the Kimmunicator back in his pocket, ready to finally make his leave. But with a couple of steps forward, a strong feeling washed over him; the feeling that he’s being watched. He stopped and looked around, recognizing he was in the exotic pets section…specifically, the Monkey Aisle.
Three rows of cages were on each side of the aisle, stacked on top of each other. Each row housed 16 monkeys, full-sized; making for nearly 100 of them. Clenching his fist, Ron glanced to his left, then to his right as the sight is confirmed for him. Every Monkey in the aisle…their eyes were all on him. A cold chill rolled down the spy sidekick’s spine as he sensed the worst is yet come.
Suddenly the lights were cut, leaving only the parking lot street lamps to shine through the large plate glass windows at the front of the store. This wasn’t coincidence, not with what Ron faced throughout his life. He took a step forward, and heard the creaking of iron hinges, which made him freeze in place. The Monkeys swung their cage doors open, simultaneously; as if some power was commanding their every action. No barrier was left between him and the primates, and Ron deemed it best to retreat out into open space. His lead foot hovered 3 inches above the ground and he knew if he puts it down, the Monkeys would rage.
So be it.
He dropped his foot, and the Monkeys went airborne. But Ron shifted his weight, brought around his other foot and performed a flawless roundhouse kick that knocked them all out of the air. As they flopped to the ground, Ron made a beeline for the exit. Unfortunately, several Monkeys recovered quickly, and tackled him to the floor. Rolling under him, they used their feet to fling him through the air, and sent him crashing back-first through a 60” HDTV in the Electronics Section. Like a true warrior though, he rolled through the landing and flipped back up to his feet, ready to fight.
The attack was waged and Ron fended off the primates, calling on what Tai Shing Pek Kwar skills he could. But soon they began to overwhelm him. Several of them broke through his defenses and knocked him deeper into the Electronics Section, where he stumbled into a floor lamp. It caught his eye in the darkness, and gave him inspiration.
Gripping it from the middle, he put his foot on the base and ripped the pole free of it. He then removed the shade and light bulb, and created himself the makeshift Bo Staff he desired. Now it was time to go on the offensive. Charging forward, he twirled the Bo in figure-8 motion, striking several of them while creating enough swinging distance. But he was still surrounded. Ron began his attack again, striking them down with minimum blows and maximum effort. But the numbers were still overwhelming, and the Monkeys closed the circle. This didn’t escape Ron’s sight as he reverted to a tried & true maneuver, the helicopter spin. The move took out more Monkey attackers, but not nearly enough to make his odds favorable as almost 60 raging primates still stood in front of him.
It was then that Ron spotted a change in them, one that he mentally kicked himself for not seeing sooner. The Monkeys were decked out in all-black ninja gi, a telling trait of what was happening around him.
“It…it’s not possible…” Ron said in shock. “He…he CAN’T be back! I saw him buried with the Yono!”
The Monkeys didn’t answer. Instead, they revealed sharpened ninja throwing stars in their hands, and flung them with deadly accuracy. Thinking quickly, Ron twirled his Bo Staff in a front spin as fast as he could, creating a shield from the projectiles. The stars bounced off the Staff and scattered throughout Smarty-Mart, ripping, tearing and shattering all they come in contact with. The Monkeys attack didn’t cease though, as more & more shurikens were flung with force. Ron desperately tried to maintain his spinning speed, so as to avoid them all. But…
“AAAAAAGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!”
…Several made it through and slashed his skin, with the last one stuck in his thigh. He dropped the Bo and fell to a knee, but quickly popped back up. He knew the Monkeys would only grow fiercer when they see weakness, and he went on the move. He scrambled through the store, making his way towards the Grocery Aisle, with Monkey Ninja hot on his tail. As they reached the aisle though…
“Have some MONKEY CHOW!!!”
…Ron greeted them by kicking a 10lb bag of ‘Monkey Chow’ at them, taking out 4. His back was against the shelves now, but he fended himself off far better than earlier. The spirit of Tai Shing Pek Kwar began to course through his body, as he took out primate after primate. That is, until he felt the shelf rocking. Looking up, he spotted the reason for it; over a dozen Monkey Ninja have retreated to the other side, and planned on pushing the two-story shelf onto him.
“AW, HELL!!!”
He ran for his life, and barely escaped the crash as the shelf came down with a thunderous ‘BOOM’! The force of it threw Ron forward and tumbled him against the ground. He quickly shook it off and picked himself up, but two Monkey feet planted themselves in his jaw. They were followed by almost a dozen fists, in an attack that propelled Ron across Smarty-Mart. He landed hard, skidding against the floor, coming to a stop…60 feet from the entrance doors.
He picked himself up again, just as he set his eyes on the double glass doors that are his salvation. But as quickly as he spotted it, the remaining Monkey Ninja blocked his exit, ready to finish the job. His body was battered and his work clothes, tattered. Cuts & scratches adorned his arms & chest, and the shuriken was still stuck in his thigh. He had one black eye, a gash above his other eye, a busted lip, and a bloodied nose.
But Ron Stoppable didn’t quit.
Stretching into his Monkey Fu stance, he prepares to fight his way out. “Come on…” He said, waving them on. “…You wanna piece of R—AAAAGGGHHH!!!”
Another throwing star lodged itself into Ron’s shin, as the Monkey Ninja rose up like a wave, and came down with their merciless attack. A blinding flurry of punches & kicks were thrown, but even Ron’s best efforts are quickly swatted away as the Monkey Ninja controlled the melee fully. A punch, another punch, a spin kick, and Ron was taken off his feet. He hit the ground hard on his back…which is when the real beating began.
They rained down blow after blow onto the helpless sidekick, who soon found himself unable to even hold his guard up. The scene resembled a mugging, with wild screeching and vicious attacks making up the display. It lasted four minutes, four agonizing minutes, seemingly never ending until a booming voice rings through the warehouse store.
“STOP!!!”
The primates heeded the order and stopped their attack, backing away from Ron, who was a twitching, bloodied mess. A deep red pool spread out from under him, as the shadow of a man stretches over. Ron couldn’t even find the strength to lift his head up, but he didn’t need to, as he knows who issued this barbaric attack…Monkey Fist.
“Raise him…” The Yono Master ordered, and his Ninja primates complied. They pick up his lifeless body, just enough so that they can meet face to face. Monkey Fist stepped in closer and stared into Ron’s glazed over eyes.
“Hello Ronald, I see you’ve been slacking off when it comes to training, haven’t you?” He asked.
Ron responded by spitting a fair amount of blood in his face.
“Delightful manners.” Monkey Fist commented. “But my quarrel is not with you. This was merely a warning for you, boy. If you interfere with my affairs as you’ve done in the past, you will not survive.”
Ron let out a low growl in response, one that Monkey Fist ignored. “Now if you’ll excuse me, I have other pressing matters. I must use my new Yono powers to drain the Han of hers…and become the most destructive force on the planet.”
“No…Hana, NO!”
It was that name, the name of Ron Stoppable’s adopted baby sister that drew out the full fury of his Monkey Fu. Ignoring his injuries and his blood loss, he effortlessly tossed Monkey Fist’s Monkey minions aside. But as he leapt forward…
THWACK!!!
…A devastating roundhouse kick from Monkey Fist connected with his jaw. It was a blindingly fast attack, and one that jettisoned Ron from consciousness. He fell lifelessly to the floor, his Kimmunicator ejecting from his pocket, and turning on as Monkey Fist made his leave.
“Come, minions! My destiny awaits…”
Hands behind his back, The Yono Master casually walked out of the demolished Smarty-Mart with his Monkey minions in tow, just as Wade appeared on the screen.
“Ron, what’s wrong? Are you there?” The scene on Wade’s screen was enough to make his heart stop. It showed the pool of blood, and Ron lying motionlessly in it.
“Oh no, RON! RON, CAN YOU HEAR ME!? RON!!!”
