Rain, rain, and more rain fell as it hit the windshield of every car passing by on the highway. People passing each other carefully trying their hardest not to get into an accident due to the hard pattering rain. A blonde/gray hair woman was driving along in her car trying to read the highway signs but the rain wouldn’t let her. She grabbed a map from the seat next to her and she slightly took her eyes off driving to get a sneak peek.
“Where the heck am I?” she mumbled to herself as she turned her attention back to driving. She drove among the others on the highway until she finally spotted the sign she was looking for. So she got off the freeway and drove on the road to her destination. As she drive, she turned on the car radio with her right hand while the other hand was on the wheel. As she drove, she flipped though the radio stations until she stopped on an oldies station playing California Girls by the Beach Boys.
While driving memories of Monday’s conversation came to her mind.
“Mom, you need to get down here and spent some time with us before the wedding.” Said her daughter over the phone.
“Honey I just can’t.” she said trying to make up an excuse.
“Why are you putting up a fight with you coming to visit us in Radiator Springs this week.” Said her daughter over the phone.
“Sally, sweetheart, I just …can’t” said her mother as she plumped down onto the couch.
“Mom I can’t believe your doing this, especially a week before my wedding.” Said Sally over the phone strict and stern.
Sally’s mother knew she couldn’t fight this subject much longer especially when her only daughter was right.
“Fine honey, I’ll be down there sometime Wednesday night.” She said
“That’s great, Mom I see you then.” Said Sally before she hanged up on the other end.
The woman’s mind came back to focus when she pulled into the small town of Radiator Springs.
“It hasn’t changed a bit not since the last time I was here,” she said to herself as she pulled up to the hotel room Sally assigned to herin. As soon as she was out, her daughter, Sally, hugged her.
“Mom you made it.” She said happily as mother and daughter braced each other.
Then other person came up to both women. This time it was a young man looked like he was around her daughter’s age. The woman let go of Sally and stared at the young man in front of them.
“You must be Lightning.” She said stern and yet trying not to break into a huge smile.
“Yes I am, and you must be Sally’s mother.” He said sticking out his right hand to shake hers.
The woman just smiled and sticks her hand out. As soon as her hand got of hold of his, she pulled him into a bear hug.
“Welcome to the family, son.” She said while hugging him.
“Thanks, Mrs. Carreara.” Said Lightning as he let go of his future mother-in-law.
“Just call me Mom.” She said.
“Now that you two finally meet, let’s introduced to you to the others.” Said Sally as she leaned against both of them hanging one arm around both necks.
“Sounds fine with me, Sally.” said the woman as the three of them walked across the street to Flo’s Restaurant.
“Good we haven’t missed Karaoke night,” said Lighting as the three of them went inside and found the nearest table.
“Karoke night?” asked the woman with her right eyebrow up confused.
“Living in a small town like this, we do need to have something to entertain ourselfs.” Said Sally.
The woman laughed shaking her head slightly.
“Ok who next?” said a woman up at the karakoke machine. She turned to look at the audience looking for a fresh new voice they haven’t heard for awhile.
“Why don’t you come up here and sing a song, Miss?” said the woman talking to Sally’s mother.
The woman tired to get out of it but the woman up stage wouldn’t have it so Sally’s mother sighed and slowly went up stage.
“Your Sally’s mother, right?” asked the woman getting off the stage.
“Yeah and by what my daughter told me, you must be Flo?” said Sally’s mother.
“Yeah I am, and your name?” asked Flo.
“Rachel” said Sally’s mother.
“Good Luck, Rachel.” Said Flo as she went to sit by her husband.
Rachel looked though the songbook and picked out a classic song.
The tune to You've Really Got A Hold On Me by The Miracles started playing and on clue, Rachel started singing.
Sally couldn’t believe that her mother could sing like that. She could have sung professionally if she wanted to. While Rachal was singing, somebody came in, and froozed when he spotted the singer on the stage, he just stood there next to the table where Sally and Lightning was at. As soon as the song was over, everybody started clapping, Rachel went down stairs while other person went upstage to sing.
Rachel was about to sit down at the table with her daughter and Lightning when she bumped into a tall, muscular, very good-looking man.
“Sorry about that.” She said before she looked up to see the last person she thought she would ever see again.
“Rachel” he said as his eyes drunk up the sight of her in front of him.
“Hudson” she said silently.
