Disclaimer: I do not own Avatar: The Last Airbender, nor any of the characters from it. I do not make any money from the writing of this story. |
Note: I did some editing. I hope this helps anyone who thought it was too long. Also I would like to add that unfortunately my style of writing is like building a snow man. It starts out as a little ball and then turns into something grand. =} and before I get anymore people saying this is a Mary Sue....I based this Character off Of Zhu Rong from Dynasty Warriors and Bodicea The Bloody Queen.
Chapter 1 Meetings
“ Every thousand years when all heavenly bodies are aligned a girl child shall be born just as winter dies. And unto her, the gift of dual bending abilities of the opposites shall be given. From this Chosen Child an Avatar shall be brought fourth.”
~ Ancient Avatar Text ~ in the Desert Library of Wan Shi Tung.
“ Onto each generation the Avatar shall be born. Should the cycle ever be broken and, The Avatar ceases to exist then it is the role of The Chosen Child to take unto her the Avatar.”
~ Ancient Avatar Text ~ Hidden in an underground library on Kyoshi Island.
The Fire Nation ships were spotted. For a hundred years they have not dared to attack the North Pole. They dared now. They had come for the Avatar. Everyone was getting ready for the attack. Lao put on her dancers’ robes and was ready. She had not been trained to fight but she did know how. Her daughter sat on the bed watching her mother and playing with a little flame in her hand.
“ Mom! What the hell am I supposed to do with my life?! What is my destiny . . . Yue knows hers, all my cousins know there’s but me I, don’t know mine?” She let the flame die and looked at the ice floor. She was an odd child she knew it. How many people besides her could bend fire and water?
“It’s one of those things you will have to find on your own.” She moved the stray lock of cinnamon hair blocking her daughter’s big blue eyes and looked at her daughter’s face. This was going to be the last time she looked at this eager heart shaped face in this world. Lao was going to die today. She knew this and her husband Jiang did too. As Lan’s birth was told in the stars, so was her husband’s and her own deaths. The priests knew that Lao would be the Mother of the next Avatar Mother. The worst was when they told Lao of her death. They had said that the moon would go dark and that when it died so would be she and Lan’s father. They had accepted it and tried to prepare their daughter for it. Now the time was here and they didn’t want to let go just yet.
” It will come to you when you least expect it.” She hugged her daughter and did not want to let go. The rustling of the tiger seal skin over the door made their eyes both go there. Waiting in the door frame was Lan’s father. The sun was shining making him look like the fire god himself. Lan ran to her dad and he grabbed her and lifted her of the ground in a twirl before setting her back down on her feet.
“ You’re getting too old for me to do that.” He laughed at her in his rich deep voice. He waited for Lao. She was ready.
“ Lan I want you to stay with your other cousins.” She took her daughter by the shoulders and lead Lan to where the other cousins were going to be kept safely.
“ Where are you going? “ She stopped on the middle of the steps and watched as her cousin ran up the stairs and that kid . . . she couldn’t remember his name looked up and watched Yue run away.
“ Your father and I are going to help the others.” Lao looked at her husband with loving eyes. Even though they had come from two opposite nations that couldn’t stand each other it was as if they had enough love for both.
“ Mom. Dad please.” Lan had cried once in her 16 years, and even then she was only a baby. She had burned her hand so bad they thought it would be a bad scar, but still she did not cry. Physical pain never bothered her, and emotional pain never touched her till now. She was in tears now.
“ Lan you knew this day would come.” Jiang took his daughters face in his hands and studied it. She had her mother in her. Her looks, blue eyes, long wavy hair and her style all Lao, but deep inside she was his little fire bender. She fought when she had to with her heart and not just a little she gave it her all. That part of her was all him. He looked at the innocent face that he would never see again. He would not be there when she was married. He would not be in this world to see when she gave birth to a grandchild and he hated it.
He had missed so much of her life and now he was going to miss even more. He had missed the first eight years of her life. He had been with General Iroh as his aide all the way up until Lu Tang had died. Iroh after losing his son set Jiang free and told him to “go home and be with your wife and daughter.” He had done just that. Life in the North was not easy. Arnnok hated him. He knew but it didn’t matter as long as he was with his wife and daughter life was good. Lan had never seen him but as soon as he set foot in the North Lan knew who her Daddy was. She ran right to him and led him all the way to her Mother. Lan gloated to the other children who said her father would never come home. He had missed her first step, first words, every first a child goes threw now, he would miss the rest of her life.
Lao stood next to him with her arm around his waist and her hand on her daughters shoulder. This was going to be the last time they would be a family in this world.
“ Remember that your father and I love you and never forget that you are the best of both Nations.” Lan nodded and hugged them both goodbye before climbing the stairs to the main hall. Both parents watched as their child made the long lonely climb to the Main hall.
“ Are we doing the right thing?” Lao looked and waved sadly when Lan turned and looked one last time before running up the stairs.
“ We taught her well. She can bend fire and water. She is the best of us both.” They turned and walked hand in hand to the main wall where everyone was ready for the attack.” There is a letter to Iroh if she ever decides to leave. He will take good care of her.”
“ She’ll be all alone when were gone.”
“ For a while yes . . . She will walk a lonely road but, it will bring her to a better place in the end.”

Her Uncle was the one who had to tell her how her parents had died. When the moon went red it took away all their bending. The messenger had watched as Arnnok’s sister and her husband were surrounded by other fire benders out numbered trying to defend him and his wife. They had hit her first and then her father.
“ Your Mother and Father died as warriors Lan.” He took his niece by the shoulders to look at her. Tears were standing in her eyes but would not fall. She was too young for this.”They died together. It was what they wanted.” Lan shook her head slowly from side to side. Still, she could not believe they were gone. She had to see with her own eyes. Until she saw their cold lifeless bodies, she wouldn’t believe.
“ Where? ”
“ At the Moon bridge where you and Yue used to play as children.” He didn’t want to tell her but she had a right to know and to see for herself.
“ Hell with this!” She broke out of his grip and ran to where her Uncle had said they had fallen.
“ Lan, wait! Not now!” He called after her but knew it was no use. Like her Mother, when Lan had made up her mind to do something, Lan just did it. You could either support her or get trampled.
“Yes Now!” The others tried to stop her but she eluded their grasps too. ” I want to find my parents.”
She broke out at a full run to where her Uncle had said they had fallen. She ran as fast as her legs would take her. Her hair streaming behind her in a streak as her heart was pounding with the hope that it was a lie but when she reached the bridge stair all her hopes died. Laying side by side were her parents with two burnt holes in their chest. She fell to her knees in between them and cried and cried. She didn’t know what else to do. They were her whole world and now they were gone. They had told her not to cry but she couldn’t help it. Something else was going to happen to. She didn’t know what but she felt she was going to loose even more today.
She took of her parka and covered her Mother. She stood up and heard voices and saw flames. She watched as the two men fought each other using fire. She also watched as the moon came back and felt remorse yet again. She turned her attention to the bridge to see that the water spirit had taken someone that looked like a monkey in her opinion in a huge water hand. The one with a huge scar on the side of his face reached out to him as if asking to take his hand. She didn’t know why but her feet took her up the stairs and to his side.
“ Why did you try to help him when he wanted you dead? ?” Zuko turned and looked at her. She was looking down at the water watching the water spirit drag Zhao away. He should have been running then but his feet wouldn’t move. All he could do was stare at this water tribe girl with unusual hair and sparkling blue eyes. He felt as if he knew her, but that was impossible since this is the first time he has ever seen her.
“ It was the honorable thing to do.” He shrugged and watched what she watched the wave hand going down into the depths of the sea. He hated him but even Zhao didn’t deserve the slow death of drowning.
“ Your right it was.” She turned her head and looked at the huge burn mark as well as the bruises and cuts. “It was a very honorable thing you did.” Just by looking at him she could tell he had once been a beautiful happy boy, but like everyone, the world had done something terrible to him.” What has the world done to you?” She put her hand to his scar and he let her.
He didn’t know why but it felt very pleasant to have her cool soft hands on his cheek. He couldn’t explain it but he felt calm. He closed his eyes and breathed in and smelled water and jasmine. He looked at her eyes and they were puffy. He could just make out the tear tracks on her cheeks. Why did he want to kill whoever had made her cry?
“ I could ask you the same thing.” He let his finger glide down her cheek and run along her jaw. She was so beautiful. “ Why am I doing this? I hate girls.” She leaned into his touch and laughed.
“ Good cause I hate boys.” They both laughed. “ I fell like I know you.”
“ I know the feeling.” He whispered.
He knew the feeling but didn’t know what to call it. What was he feeling for her that he couldn’t name? Rather than show him hate like the rest of the world had she was actually kind and nice to him. Something else was happening as well. He didn’t know why but there was a knot in his chest and for a moment felt like something in him was going to burst. Het let that finger go up and glide over her lips. They were so soft and were begging to be kissed. He put his hand to her waist and slowly drew her to him. She didn’t even protest she closed her eyes and let him pull her toward him. He had done this once against his will and prayed he didn’t mess it up. She parted her lips invitingly she fit so nicely against him as if she were made for him. He descended slowly and tentatively flicked her tongue with his. She put her arms behind his head, locking her writs and then brought his head down for more.
He groaned in the back of his throat as he returned her hunger with his own. His hands were down the waist part her skirt and were able to cup her bare butt because unlike most girls in the north from what he saw she wore a two-piece gi. His hands were warm and strong yet felt soft to the touch to her. Those hands on her naked flesh, the feel of his well kept, hard body against hers felt oh so nice to her. She would have let him do anything to her in that moment and he was more than ready to do anything to her when the sounds of voices brought them both out of their state of bliss. She turned her head breaking the kiss and listened to hear her Uncle and some of her friends.
“Go!” She didn’t want to leave the comfort of his arms but she had to. If they found him, who knew what they would do to him.
“ Wait! I don’t even know your name.” He had grabbed her hand and pulled her back to him for another kiss.
“ Please. If my people catch you, who knows what they will do to you!” She returned the kiss before trying to push him away.
“ I’ll never see you again will I!?” He couldn’t keep the sadness out of his voice. He couldn’t let go of her even with the sounds of her people getting louder.
“ If you believe in your heart . . . then you will.” She kissed him again trying to put every emotion under the sun into it. He returned it harder before reluctantly pulling away and running down the stairs and threw the empty streets.
She watched him until she couldn’t see him anymore and for the second time that night Lan cried. She was in love. She didn’t even know him and yet as she watched him leave her heart felt like it was breaking. She expected to hear or see her people but no one came. She stayed watching as the sun began to rise and still no one came. Suddenly she felt someone was with her and when she turned her head her cousin Yue was there but she could see the buildings behind her.
“ You’re no longer in this world are you?” The sad lonely look on Yue’s face spoke volumes. Lan’s eyes began to water and soon rivets were on her cheeks formed by the path of sadness.
“ No, but you can see me whenever you want. You always have been able to see those who have left this world.” Yue smiled sadly at her cousin.
“ Yue will I ever see him again?!” She motioned with her head the way he had gone. Yue looked at her cousin and her smile turned into a big grin.
“ Oh yes. You will definitely see him again!” She was almost giggling.
“ When? Where? “ She looked to the waters and saw a tiny makeshift raft going toward the rising sun.
“ I don’t even know his name.”
“ You will see him again but not if you stay here. The world needs you Lan. He needs you. You must leave like your Mother did before you and find your way.” Yue used her hand to make Lan look at her. Yue’s hand was there yet it wasn’t but Lan could feel it.
“ You will see him again when you are both ready.” Lan opened her mouth to ask his name when a slow shake of Yue’s head stopped her.
” I can’t tell you his name, but you will find it out all on your own.” She kissed Lan’s fore head before turning into smoke and evaporating into the first brilliant rays of dawn.

“ I’m surprised your not trying to hunt the Avatar.” Iroh waited with bated breath for his nephew’s answer.
“ I’m tired.” He looked and could see the city getting smaller and smaller. Was she still there waiting for him? Was she standing on that bridge all alone in the cold?
“ Then rest. A man needs his rest.” He felt his Uncles hand on his shoulder and did what he was asked.
Zuko laid down on the makeshift boat and closed his eyes. It figured. The one person in this world who seemed to truly know him and he would never see her again. The one person who also probably didn’t care who he was and he would never get to hold her or kiss her like that ever again. Being with her for only a moment he had forgotten everything. Forgot that he was banished, forgotten, that he had hated girls, ( till now ) forgotten that he had nothing and no one but his uncle. Worst of all he could put a name to what he felt, and it was love yet, he didn’t even know her name. She in the short time he had been with her made him realize he was so tired of ice skating up a hill. Tired of running after the Avatar. He was just so tired of it all.
Sleep had finally begun to take him and he began to dream of her. They were on the bridge and before her people came, she leads him forcibly by the hand to somewhere quiet. She threw him into the doorway first holding him there with her hand while she peeked out. They could hear her people run by and wait for their voices and footfalls to fade before picking up where they had left off kissing each other tasting the other. Her hands were everywhere making him feel so much alive that it was beginning to scare him and thrill him all at the same time. Soon it became a fierce contest to see who could get whose clothes off quicker. They both removed one article from the other’s body while trying to remain lip locked.
They fell to their knees on top of a pile of furs. The furs came a close second to the soft feeling against his bare skin. He pulled her onto his lap and, held her there by her ass, cupping it and kneading it while nuzzling her long graceful neck. She sighed and stroked his back letting her long nimble fingers glide up and own his spine while grinding herself into him letting him know she has had enough foreplay. He moaned and gently laid her down on her back. She opened her legs for him invitingly and the fit between them was wonderful. She may have been cool to the touch but between her thighs was the hottest feeling he had ever felt. She wrapped her long well toned legs around his hips trying to bring him into her but he couldn’t before telling her something.
“ Zuko.” He looked into her eyes and could see only he reflected in them.
“ What?” She breathed.
“ My name. It’s Zuko.”
“ Well then Zuko.” She moved until he slid easily inside of her. He gasped and so did she. Never before had he felt this good in his life it was hearing his name come from her mouth and feeling her from the inside that was doing this to him.
” Finish what you started.” He obliged her by grasping her hips and bringing himself fully into her. She moaned loudly arching her back sealing him deep inside her. Keeping hold of her well-rounded hips, he began to slowly and gently work himself in and out of her. She brought her hips up to match him and soon she set a more frantic pace. He was so close now and so was she. Her hands were knotted in the furs and her moans that came all the way from her toes was driving him insane.
“ Zuko please.” She was holding back waiting for him.
He began to shudder with his release and she followed immediately after. He hovered above her bracing himself on his hands shaking and panting. He could feel her still squeezing him she had not finished yet and it brought a lazy satisfied grin to his face. He watched her face as the beatific erotic look turned into a sleepy well-satisfied smile. She then gently took the back of his head and push him to lay down his head on her chest. He did so gladly, enjoying the feel of her body that was slick with sweat and seeing her once pale skin slightly flushed with an unreal glow. She held him to her and he felt safe. He had only known her for a short time but it felt as if he had known her many a life time. Here he was laying naked with her in the middle of a nation who wanted him dead. She rubbed his back and it felt wonderful to have someone take care of him. With her he didn’t have to be somebody else. With her he didn’t have to be the harsh Fire Prince. With her he was free.
“ That’s my name.” She whispered to him.
“ What?” He propped himself on one elbow and look down at her. Her reddish hair fanned out around her head like a halo and her eyes violet like the sky when the sun rose.
“ I said my name is-“ and he woke up. He cracked an eye and looked to see he was in the middle of the ocean with his uncle. He felt stiff and sore. Every part of his body ached. He was cold as well and realized that he was extremely cold between his legs. He groaned in frustration before closing his eyes and wishing he was with her right now.
In the time since then he would dream of her. Each time he would take her some other way and each time she would hold him and make him feel peaceful and safe. The only part of the dream he hated was just as she was about to tell him her name he would wake up.
One last dream of her would come to him before they stopped all together. He was in some kind of grove with huge lush trees releasing purple flowers. The air was warm and a gentle breeze picked up. He was sitting there just watching the clouds pass by and an oddly delicate yet huge blue butterfly. It was bobbing up and down on the breeze before it floated away and that was when he felt her. He turned his head and she was there kneeling beside him watching the butterfly dance away as well.
“ This is the last time I will see you isn’t it?!” He asked her.
She nodded her head sadly and put her hand to his cheek. He covered it with his own closing his eyes and breathing in the smell of her skin. Without a name holding her picture in his head was going to be hard but maybe her scent would stay and make him remember. He didn’t want to forget her. He didn’t want the peace that he felt around her to leave him. It was like being back on the bridge and smelling water and jasmine.
” I will never see you again will I!?” He opened his eyes to see her smile and his heart melted. Her hair was down and loose gently flowing down her back. With the sun shining off of it making a halo effect. Her big blue eyes commanding him not to look anywhere else but at her. She was as beautiful if not more so as the day he first met her.
“ I told you, if your heart believes, you will see me then you will. It will be awhile but we will find each other again.” She would kiss him and then burst into to tiny little white jasmine blossoms that caressed his face before blowing away and he would feel empty and alone like when his Mother left him.
And then the dreams stopped and he didn’t dream of her any more. Slowly the picture of her in his head faded more and more. Without a name there was nothing to hold onto. By the time he and his Uncle reached Bah Sing Se the girl from the North was completely gone, written up as no more than a dream. She was someone that he had created. She wasn’t real.
