A Million Reasons
(Prologue)"
You're very confident. What makes you think it can be done?" He asked his opponent not once taking his eyes off the expensive chess board. Each piece was hand carved from the finest ivory smuggled in from Africa.
He'd made sure the elephants were dead, a single shot to the head, testimony of his hunting skills before removing the valuable tusks.
Pictures of the safari hung on the wall of his study. His sharp gaze landed on the perfect spot to move his Goliath piece.
Somehow he'd ended up on the defensive trying to avoid it's capture. "What makes you think I can't do it?" She countered. He wasn't certain but he thought he could detect the hint of a smile as she watched him move his piece onto the dark square.
He hesitated a moment before setting it down. As a businessman he new the importance of bluffing unfortunetly so did the person sitting across from him. "My corporation will put someone on the moon before you get on top of her." He said. She smirked at his answer. "No one that beautiful could be so cold." She said. "And speaking of Xanatos Enterprises." She smoothly segued.
"If I can seduce her, as a reward I want you to make me CEO of Gen-U-Tech Incorporated." At his shocked expression she continued. "You no longer have any interest in the company but with my back ground in genetic research I can resurrect it." She added returning her focus to the game board.
"What are your intentions?" He asked. After the fiasco with the mutants and gargoyles he'd washed his hands of genetic research and turned his focus to computer technology and robotics. "I have a few ideas nothing specific." She replied cryptically.
He leaned back in his seat studying her. The poker face she wore gave nothing away. "You'll need an expert in the field of genetic research. Anton Sevarius seems to have dropped off the face of the earth." He said. She frowned the lines momentarily marring her attractive features.
"I don't want him. He's nothing more than a modern day Frankenstein." She said in distaste. "I have a short list of scientist I'm going to offer the position to." She told him. He quirked a dark brow in surprise."So you've been thinking about this for some time." He said.
She shrugged a slender shoulder. "What if you loose?" He asked. "What do I get if you can't seduce Elisa." She held the chess piece she picked up between two fingers. A smile lifted the corners of her full lips.
"I will give you the one thing that's standing in your way of being the top technology company in North America." She said. "I'll complete the take over of my father's company, Cyberbiotics, and make you President." She said. He smiled delighting in the idea. "I once told you the reasons we should marry. I've never made a better decision. Fox arched an elegant eyebrow him. "Ahhh yes, the night you proposed to me." She placed a finger on her chin. "You said we're genetically compatible, highly intelligent and had the same goals." She glanced down at the chestboard then back at him. "But you said nothing about love." He shifted in his seat.
"That's not true," he stated. Something in her gaze causing him to defend himself. "I said that with all we had in common love was possibly there too." He grimaced hearing the words out loud. "You're everything I want in a woman." He said feeling the beginning of arousal. "You're perfect in every way. But I do have one request." He said, shaking his head as mental images of his wife with Elisa Maza flashed before his eyes.
"I want to watch, from the beginning to the end, I want to see you fuck her." He said. "I want to hear her scream your name." His brown eyes burned into hers. "And when your done with her she's mine." He said. For a split second indecision showed on her face."Elisa despises you, she'll never allow you to touch her." She said. "But maybe I can convince her to allow you to watch." She offered. He stared at her in silence for the first time starting to feel uneasy.
"There is another way she can be of use to me." He said. "I'll need her to help me get something past customs. He said. "Who better to do that than an NYPD detective." He added. "What are you smuggling into the country?" She asked, her own curiosity piqued.
"I'm having something shipped in from Europe that would never make it through U.S. Customs." He said. She looked as if she wanted to ask more but she dropped it. "So you have no problem with me taking a lover?" She asked. He looked thoughtful before answering. "As long as we both get something out of it. No, it doesn't bother me." He stated. "But Fox," she looked up from the board at his serious tone. "This is one time only and if Elisa refuses to play by the rules, then the deal is off." He said. "You will not see her behind my back." He paused staring intently at her. "Understand?" He asked.
She returned his look the atmosphere in the room no longer playful. A light laugh bubbled up from her throat. "Of course darling." She said. "And by the way," she added tipping over his king in defeat, "check mate."
