Disclaimer: I am not the owner of Code Lyoko, and do not intend to make a profit by using the characters thereof. This is a work of pure fiction. Any resemblance to persons living or dead is purely coincidental and entirely unintentional on part of the author. Oh, and um... my milkshake isn't better than yours. Okay? Happy? One more thing! There's no sex in this chapter.
Central couple: Sissi/Milly
Inspiration: Attack of the Zombies
Author's Note: If you don't care to see this crap, just scroll down. Still here? Alright, good. Let me tell you what inspired me to write this story. Well, for some strange reason, about halfway through the semester, I suddenly acquired a strong obsession with Code Lyoko. While watching an episode, “Attack of the Zombies” this idea suddenly hit me like lightning. And then I cranked this out.
I'll have to be honest. I don't get any pleasure out of watching anyone suffer. I just wanted Sissi to be happy. There's a lot of internalization and soul-searching here. So you'll either love it or hate it. Please read, rate and review. Depending on the response, I might continue this story. And also depending on the feedback, I might add a sex scene or two. That was my intention when I started to write. But about halfway through, I had a change of heart. Well, anyway... hope you enjoy!
What is this feeling..? Deja vu..? Or the visions of a past life?
The thoughts rang through Sissi's head as she lay on the bench outside during lunch, just staring up at the sky and the shapes of the clouds.
What are these strange dreams that I have been having?
She recalled how she would see herself in a dark hallway, doors on either side. At the end of the hallways, she could see a small but bright light. Initially, as she would run towards it, it would get bigger and bigger—an indication that she was getting closer and closer to the source of light. But then it would start to get smaller and smaller, even as she ran, getting further and further from her. She would step up her effort, trying to run faster, yet the mysterious light would only move away from her.
And then with a sudden jerk, she'd wake up as her whole body would convulse. She'd find herself in a cold sweat, her breathing fast and erratic and her heart palpitating. She didn't have that same dream every single night, but she did have it often enough to make her think about it in the daytime. Lately, that's all she was doing during her free time... just staring at nothing silently for minutes at a time.
Which, of course had not escaped the notice or concern of her friends. Meaning, Herve and Nicolas. Yes, it was sad but true. All she had that she could call 'friends' were an acne afflicted bespectacled nerd, and an apish individual with a limited range of facial expressions, who only followed her around because they had no lives of their own, and also possibly because the first one had a crush on her. Whatever the case, the two knew not to approach her at a time she was feeling moody: the chance was just too high that she might flip out and snap at them.
“Were you inspired by Monsieur Ibrahim to ponder the nature of all existence?” cackled Odd as he approached her, referring to the film they had just seen a few days ago.
Sissi blinked at first, coming out of her daze and then just glared at the annoying blond boy. But she just mumbled, “Leave me alone...” before she sat up, and then stood to leave the bench and walk back towards the cafeteria. No crass, bitchy remarks this time.
“Wow... I wonder what's up with her?” asked Ulrich to no one in particular.
“Well, I don't think she deserved it. She didn't do anything to us all day.” replied Yumi, who was usually the voice of reason in the group.
“Yeah, for a change...” retorted Jeremie.
“I wonder what's bothering her?” asked a concerned Aelita.
“Well... I was just using the strategy of preemptive strike?” Odd defended with a nervous little giggle.
“How about we just let her be?” offered Ulrich.
“I hope she's alright...” Aelita said.
Ugh! That stupid Odd with his stupid little friends, especially that stupid Ulrich!
Thought a furious Sissi as she walked back into the cafeteria's stuffy air, leaving the fresh air outside.
Odd... Wasn't she friends with him once? She tried and tried to remember, but the memory eluded her. And yet, she could not help but think that it was true, that she did actually know him and was friends with him. So what happened? And more importantly, why couldn't she remember?
She was cutting through the cafeteria, perhaps intending to go back to her dorm. On the way, however, she encountered the usual pair of Tamiya and Milly.
Milly... As much as that girl ticked Sissi off, there were moments when she'd feel spontaneous bursts of... caring towards her. Yes, she really felt that for some reason, she really cared about the younger girl. Although she did not know why.
A memory... yes, something had happened once... But the harder she tried to remember, the further it slipped away. Suddenly, she felt her thoughts jumbling together as many voices and thoughts rang through her head at once. She felt dizzy and felt herself slipping backwards, unable to stop herself. Her blood pressure was dropping as the cafeteria was becoming dark all around her. All of this happened in less than a second, but everything slowed down for her just before she passed out.

Jim's voice rang through the loud clamor of the cafeteria, telling everyone to back off from the collapsed girl's body. He picked her up easily and began to stride towards the infirmary.
Yolande Perraudin gasped as she saw the approaching Jim, “Oh my! What happened?”
“I don't know...” he responded, “Should I call an ambulance?”
“Um... no, just put her down over here for now,” she instructed, pointing to the hospital bed. “Let me take her vitals first, and then I'll call one if necessary.”
“Oh, alright. Should I let Mr. Delmas know, then?” he asked.
“Yeah, go ahead. But tell him to wait outside until I let him in.”
“Alright.” nodded Jim as he headed for the principal's office, closing the door on his way out.
“Well, let's see what's going on with you.” Yolande said to an unconscious Sissi as she picked up her wrist, her fingers on her pulse as she looked at the watch on her other hand. “Hmm...” she said simply, next taking the temperature, then her blood pressure, and finally pricking her finger to test her blood sugar. At last satisfied with her diagnosis, she smiled softly, “Oh, I see...” and walked over to the fridge. After taking out a liter-size plastic bottle, she poured some of the contents into a disposable cup and walked back to Sissi's bedside.
She then gently nudged the girl, “Sissi..? Sissy, please wake up dear.” she said, lightly shaking her shoulder.
“Nnhh... where...what?” the young girl mumbled, understandably confused.
“You're in the infirmary. It looks like you passed out.” informed the school nurse. “Here, drink this.” she said, passing the cup to Sissi.
She grasped it and took a large gulp of the contents. And then suddenly, she drew it away from herself and made a face. “Eww... what is this? Pond water with lemon?”
Yolande giggled softly, “No... it's a solution of electrolytes and glucose. Please finish drinking it.”
Sissi quickly gulped it all down, before she was forced to drink a few more cups of it by the nurse. Just then, a harassed-looking Jean-Pierre Delmas burst through the door. “What's wrong Yolande!? Is she alright!?”
The woman smiled softly and nodded, “Yes Mr. Delmas, she's fine. I think she didn't eat lunch and her blood pressure and blood sugar dropped. It's nothing to worry about. All she needs is a good sandwich and some juice.”
“What!?” he responded, sounding like he had been told that his daughter had a heart attack. And immediately, he ran over to her side, “Sissi! How could you do something so silly like that!? How can you be expected to perform well if you don't even...”
“Daddy, please...” Sissi said with an exasperated sigh. She always hated it when her dad said stuff that was obvious, and worst of all, when he repeated the same thing over and over again.
The school principal turned to look back at the nurse when he felt her hand on his shoulder, “Mr. Delmas? If I could have a word..?”
He looked at his daughter, and then back at the nurse. He wasn't making much progress with the first person, so he might as well do what the second had asked. “Sure.” he said with a nod, following her.
She closed the door of her office and said in hushed voice anyway, “Children her age have a hard time expressing their feelings and problems, especially to adults. And especially to their parents. They just don't understand that their parents are the only ones in the world who care about them, without expecting anything in return. Um...”
He listened quietly and then nodded, “I understand.” and then sighed softly. “I'll leave it up to you.”
“I can't promise that she'll open up to me, you know.” she warned.
“I understand. And I also understand that you can't tell me every little thing that she tells you. But if it's something of relevance--”
“If it concerns her health and well-being, you'll be the first to know.” she said, cutting him off.
She then smiled, “If you're this worried about her now, what will you do when she's in high school and college? All kids have a bit of trouble making the transition from childhood to adolescence. Don't worry, she'll be alright.” she said, trying to reassure him.
“Well, I'm a parent.” he said with a smile of his own, “And an educator, besides. It's my job to worry. But I'm sure it's nothing serious.”
He then opened the door, “Well, I'll get going now...” he said loud enough so that Sissy would hear him.
“Right. I'll see you later.” said Yolande, waving to him.
After he exited the infirmary, closing the door behind him, his daughter suddenly burst out, “I'm not doing drugs, drinking, or smoking, or whatever! And I'm not pregnant or anything stupid like that!”
Her nurse slid the stool next to her and sat down, “But you are depressed, aren't you?”
“What!?” Sissi said, sounding positively alarmed, “I'm a young, healthy kid. I don't have any problems. How can I be depressed!?”
“School can be hard for kids, you know.” the older woman responded, “Children are going through many changes in their lives. Sometimes they get frustrated and say or do hurtful things to their peers. It all adds up, you know.”
“Oh, are you saying that it's bad karma!? That I'm mean to everybody and I'm being punished for it!?” the young girl spat back.
“Honey, I didn't say anything like that.” the nurse responded calmly.
“Well...” Sissi began to say, but then remained quite.
Yolande put a gentle hand on her shoulder, “I trust you when you say that you don't have anything bothering you. But I want you to know that you're always welcome to come and talk to me about anything, regardless of how silly or trivial it might seem.”
Sissi looked up at her, wearing an expression that made it look like she was just bursting to say something. But inside, she knew that talking about fleeting memories or deja vu or whatever, was indeed too silly and trivial to talk about. She just nodded, “Alright, Miss Perraudin. I'll do that.”
“Can I go now?” she asked, getting up on her feet.
“Yes.” the older woman nodded with a smile, “But only on one condition.”
Sissi blinked. “What's that?” she asked.
“That you'll go and eat something. I'll let your teacher know why you were missing.” the nurse said, smiling still.
“Oh, alright.” Sissi nodded.
