Disclaimer: I do not own Gargoyles/Disney related but the original character, Eve Anderson, is from my own mind and is not a character of Disney. I get no pay and am only doing this for fun |
Owen sets the last box down in the elevator, a slight sheen of sweat on his brow. Goliath punches in their floor and leans against the wall. “I am glad this is the last. I would not have thought one person could have had so much packed into a bathroom.”
Owen chuckles. “Then you have not been paying attention to Elisa’s bathroom, have you?” His smile widens at Goliath’s shocked look. “Women typically have more because they believe they need beauty products to keep men interested. I hope to dissuade Eve of that notion soon.” The doors open and he lifts a box. “I’ve had my fill of unnecessary beauty products over the centuries.”
Goliath grabs a box and follows him down the hall. “You have probably seen some of the strangest fashions over the years. I sometimes forget that I have missed out on quite a bit during my slumber.”
“Be glad you did.” Owen chuckles softly. “Much of it was worth missing.” He sees the door to his rooms open and he stops suddenly.
Nalyah steps out into the hall, sees Owen, and lowers her gaze. “My lord, I had not expected you to be back yet. I was going to see what I could find for lunch. Would you like me to bring you something?”
“No, but I appreciate you asking.” He glances towards the door. “Is Eve still here?”
“No.” Nalyah almost smiles as she sees him visibly relax. “You needn’t worry about hiding from her. She is with Justin getting the stallions ready and then off to meet with his family.”
“Good.” Settles the box into a more comfortable position. “I have several boxes that need to come down the hall still and her coming out would’ve caused problems.”
Nalyah giggles, walking down the hall to open Eve’s room’s door for them. “So that is the task Justin set for you. He wouldn’t tell me exactly what he had planned.” She stands aside as they walk inside. “Is everything done then?”
“The apartment is cleared out and cleaned.” Goliath sets the box near others on the floor. “The key was turned in before we headed here. There is nothing else for her to do there.”
“Perfect.” Nalyah claps her hands together. “She will be glad to hear of it.” She steps into the hallway again. “I will make sure that drinks are brought up for you two since you will be working up a thirst.”
Goliath frowns as she walks back down the hall and disappears around a corner. “I thought you said to be wary of her.”
“And that still holds.” Owen sighs and walks back towards the elevator. “She is changing because she has to and Justin is helping her. I will hold my opinion on if it will be for the better until I have seen her do something selfless.”
“Good idea.” Goliath picks up another box and heads back down the hall.
Eve leans back against the sides of the small sweat lodge, closing her eyes. Faith leans over, whispering softly. “You can’t hear them from here. Grandmother made sure of it.”“I wasn’t trying to listen to anything here.” Eve smiles but doesn’t open her eyes. “I keep trying to feel Owen but all I get is the feeling he’s still there in the back of my mind but nothing more.”
“Ah.” Faith pours more water on the hot stones. “Grandmother will keep him from contacting you that way too.” She hands Eve a cup of water to drink. “You know if he talks to you before the ceremony, Grandmother will raise hell.”
Eve sips at the water. “Can’t blame me for trying.” She smiles and sets the cup down. “How much longer do we have to be in here? I’m getting too hot.”
The flap opens and Lisa steps in, smiling at the two young women. “Not much longer, My Dear. Mother won’t let you stay the usual length of time since it might hurt the babies.” She leans over and settles a metal lid over the box of hot coals. “Besides, we have to be done in time for your appointment.”
Eve groans and stands up, letting Faith towel the sweat from her body. “Don’t remind me. Maybe it’s good that we can’t talk yet. He’d probably get over protective and not do the wedding if he figured it out.”
Lisa grins knowingly. “He will learn soon enough.” She hands a soft long gown to Eve. “Justin is back from buying your wedding gift. It is time.”
Eve slides it on over her head. “Let’s get this show on the road.”
Eve paces nervously outside the doctor’s office. Justin smiles, eyes scanning the newspaper in his hands. “Fox will be here in time. You’re acting like a nervous puppy.”“I am not.” She flops down in the seat next to him and leans her head on his shoulder.
“You just don’t want to pee in a cup.” He chuckles and turns his head enough to rub his cheek against her. “It’ll be fine.”
“But what if I can’t do this?” She clasps her hands around his arm. “I don’t think I’m cut out to be a mom.”
Justin set the newspaper down on the table next to him and gently strokes her hair. “You’ll be a great mom. You already have a handle on the teenage years cause of Xander.”
Fox steps out of the elevator and heads towards them. “Trying to chicken out on me?”
“No.” Eve growls back, sitting up. “Just ready for this to be over.”
Fox pulls her to her feet and hooks her arm in hers. “Justin will still be here when we’re done and I’m not leaving you in the room alone.” She winks at Justin. “Just in case you faint, I want to be there to take a picture.”
“Oh please! I won’t faint!” Eve rolls her eyes and drags Fox through the office door.
Goliath sets the last box down with the rest of the stacked boxes. “That’s the last one.”Owen leans against the wall, sipping at the tea Nalyah had left. “Thank god. I’m done.”
Goliath chuckles and pats his shoulder. “You didn’t sleep well last night. Perhaps you should take a nap.”
“Where?” Owen growls softly. “I cannot go back to the apartment and I refuse to sleep anywhere that Eve has not been.” His shoulders sag softly. “I cannot sleep right now without her scent filling my lungs.”
“You’re still having problems from last night?” Goliath frowns and takes in Owen’s exhausted state.
“I must be.” He runs his hand through his hair before straightening up. “I should be fine once I sleep.”
“If Eve is not back yet, you should sleep in your bed.” Goliath opens the door and walks out into the hallway.
Owen follows him, yawning softly. “That could become complicated.”
“She is with Justin.” Goliath opens the door to Owen’s rooms and steps in. “He can let us know when they are coming back so I can wake you.” He sees Nalyah and walks over to talk with her a moment. Nalyah smiles and lifts a phone to her ear as Goliath waves Owen inside. “It is clear. They are not expected for several more hours. Go rest.”
Owen quickly strides into the bedroom and crawls onto the bed. He closes his eyes, breathing in her scent on his pillows. With a contented sigh, he drifts off to sleep.
Eve picks at her gown, reaching out again for that distance feeling of Owen. Her body slightly relaxes as she feels him drift off to sleep, not realizing until that moment how worried she was about him. Fox lifts a brow, noticing the sudden change in Eve’s body language. “Everything ok?”Eve glances at her through her hair. “Yeah. Owen’s finally relaxed enough to sleep.” She shrugs. “I never realized how much my mood reflects his, even when we block almost everything out, until now.”
Fox smiles softly, flipping the magazine in her hands closed. “Just wait until you can’t sleep, have weird cravings, and mood swings.”
Eve grins, smoothing out her gown with her hands. “Poor man. I really wanna feel sorry for him but I can’t.” She glances up at the clock. “Are we gonna be done soon? I’m tired of sitting here with my bare back getting cold.”
“He’ll be here soon.” Fox chuckles and sets the magazine down on the table next to her. “Your blood work should be done by now.”
A light knock precedes the door opening. A young dark haired woman steps in and smiles at them. “Miss Anderson, you are indeed pregnant.” She flips through the paperwork and her smile widens. “It also looks like everything else is good so the doctor doesn’t want to start you on too harsh of a supplement yet. He’s going to give you the usual, minus the iron. Your iron levels are above normal.”
“Is that a good thing?” Laughs nervously, glancing at Fox.
“It just means you eat enough red meats to keep your iron up.” The nurse winks at her. “Now I need you to lay back. I’m just going to feel to see how things are going.”
Eve lays back on the table and sighs as the nurse gently presses along her lower stomach. The nurse frowns, making a few notations before pressing some more. “Is the date you gave me the last time you had your cycle?”
“Yeah.” Eve’s eyes narrow as she watches the nurse closely. “Why?”
“It feels like you are farther along than that.” She makes a few more notations and lays a measuring tape across Eve’s stomach to measure her. “I’ll have an ultrasound ordered.”
Fox starts laughing at Eve’s crestfallen look. “You was hoping Ivy was wrong, wasn’t you?”
“Duh!” Eve covers her eyes with her arm. “You try telling Owen I’m having twins!!”
The nurse’s smile widens. “That would very well explain why you are showing farther along. If there’s two in there you’ll be showing faster.” She pats Eve’s arm. “We’ll know more once the ultrasound is done. You can get dressed now.”
“Thank god!” Eve sits up and jumps off the table.
The nurse laughs at her as she walks out of the room.
Justin looks up, smiling as Fox and Eve walk into the waiting room. “So?”“Chill out, Uncle Justin.” Eve swats his arm. “You have time before you can run off with them and teach them to fish.”
Justin laughs, leaping up and hugging her. “That’s great! When do I get to go shopping?”
“You’re worse than any woman I know.” Eve grumbles as Fox hands her a bag of vitamins. “Always shopping!”
“Well we at least have to figure out where Owen is going to stay tonight.” He glances at his phone. “He’s currently asleep in his bed smothered in your scent according to Nalyah.”
Fox laughs softly as she leads them from the office. “Where ever he stays, he won’t sleep if he can’t smell you.”
“So get a room and I’ll take a nap in the bed.” Eve yawns to Justin’s delight. “I’m exhausted anyway. Too much excitement in one day.”
“I bet.” Fox smiles and holds the door open for her. “I have the perfect place for you to rest, Momma.”
“Just keep those endearments to yourself until tomorrow when I get the change to tell him.” Eve waves a finger at her, frowning. “Last thing I need is him flipping out before the wedding.”
“What about just after?” Justin grins as they walk towards the car.
“That’s fine.” She winks. “He’ll be stuck with me then.”
Fox laughs and settles into the car.
Owen stretches, barely opening his eyes to see the sun had already set. He glances at the clock and groans softly, tossing the blankets off of him as he sits up. He scrubs at his face and stands, walking to the door. Goliath looks up as it opens, lifting a cup of coffee in salute.“I see you made it back from the land of the dead.” He smiles and sips from his cup.
“I am still tired.” He shuffles towards a carafe of coffee and picks up another cup. “I had planned on getting up sooner so I could find a place for tonight.”
“Already taken care of.” Goliath lifts a keycard. “Justin brought this by a few hours ago. Said the pillows should smell like Eve since she took a nap herself.” He chuckles and hands the card to Owen. “It seems they have already thought of everything.”
Owen smirks, pocketing the key card. “Yes, it would seem that way. I will let David know where I will be and make arrangements for the morning.”
“Already done as well.” Goliath lifts his cup again, smiling over the rim. “You can thank Fox for that one.”
Owen’s shoulders relax, not realizing he was getting tense again. “Thank god. I am tired of making decisions for the moment.”
“Drink your coffee and we’ll go see what they got you.” Goliath sips at his cup. “Maybe it has a Jacuzzi.”
“If I know Eve, it will.” Owen chuckles softly.
Eve flops down on the couch, sighing heavily. Nalyah brings her a mug of tea, smiling softly. “Thanks, Nalyah.” She closes her eyes, breathing in the smell of cinnamon. “I’m ready for this day to be over.”Justin smiles as Nalyah curls up on the other side of the couch with him. “This is why we didn’t do the bachelor party tonight. There would’ve been too much grumbling from the old men about it being way past their bed times.”
David, on the couch across from them with his arm around Fox, narrows his eyes at Justin. “Listen here, young pup! You don’t have children to keep half an eye on like I do.” He chuckles and sips his beer. “I swear Alexander is going to drive me to an asylum one day. He had a mobile with all of our clothes for tomorrow.”
Eve’s mouth drops open. “He did what? Why?”
David rolls his eyes. “Said it would keep our clothes from wrinkling and it looked interesting.” He rubs Fox’s shoulder. “I think he was just bored. He gets it from his mother.”
Fox smirks. “You’re no better.”
“True.” He laughs softly.
Eve yawns, eyes nearly watering in exhaustion. “Time for this old woman to go to bed.” She stands and stretches. “6am is too early to be up on my day off.”
Fox laughs softly as Eve turns and walks towards the bedroom. “Sleep well, Eve.”
Justin wakes, reaches across the sleeping bag and feeling it empty. He opens one eye and sees Nalyah staring out a nearby window. “Nalyah? Everything ok?”“I can feel the magic from here.” She glances at him over her shoulder, frowning. “If your grandmother hadn’t warded the bedroom, Eve would be feeling it as well. They are calling to her.”
“Then it’s good she can’t feel it.” He sits up, scrubbing at his face.
“Is it?” Her frown deepens. “They will wonder why she’s not answering. They will take it as an insult or decide she is too weak to lead them.”
He slides his feet out of the sleeping bag and stands. “So what do we do?”
She leans into him as he pulls her into his arms. “We do nothing. This is for Titania to work out if she agrees to this marriage.”
Puck watches her dream self sleeping blissfully on the wide bed. He wants to reach out and wake her, kissing her, but the barrier is strong. He closes his eyes and wills himself back awake.“Well?” Titania arches one eyebrow as he sits up on the bed. “What did she say?”
“Nothing, Sister Dear.” He rubs lightly at his chin. “Lily has warded her well. I could see her but nothing more through our bond. Nothing will touch her tonight so long as she is in that room.”
“I see.” Titania smiles softly. “I had hoped that was the case. The little Shaman was doing what was needed then.” She turns towards the window and looks out. “I will go smooth ruffled feathers then.” She glances back over her shoulder. “I cannot promise that they will not try again.”
“I fully expect them to.” He nods to her. “She will be prepared when they do.”
“Good.” Titania’s smile widens. “I will see you tomorrow, Brother.”
He sighs heavily as she disappears, sure sleep will not come now.
