Disclaimer: I do not own Gargoyles/Disney related but the original character, Eve Anderson, is from my own mind and is not a character of Disney. I get no pay and am only doing this for fun |
Eve suddenly comes awake, the bed slightly dipping and a soft growl alerting her to someone in the room. She flicks a finger and the lights come on in the room. Her eyes narrow as she sees Moon in her girl form crouching protectively over her and glaring at the closed bedroom door. A soft growl comes from the girl, her lips peeling back from her teeth.
“Moon, what’s wrong?” Eve whispers, sitting up and grabbing a nearby robe to pull on.
Moon glances back at her and helps her tie the robe on. Eve notices her nails have grown and her body is tight with tension.
“Where’s Samuel?” Eve slides from the bed, opening a drawer in her nightstand and pulling a gun out.
Sound explodes from the other side of the door. Eve can hears things being knocked over as growls and hissing erupts from Samuel. She tries to grab for the door handle but Moon gets there first, blocking Eve’s hand with her own. Eve freezes before she can yell at Moon as silence begins just as fast as the commotion had.
“Call off your Catkin, My Queen.” An angry mae voice calls from the livingroom. “I am not here to harm you.”
She glances at the clock as she pushes Moon gently out of the way of the door. “Then why are you here at 3am, Coyote? This isn’t a social call since you knew I was sleeping.”
He glares at her as she steps out from where he is cornered, Samuel in boy form growling and brandishing his claws. “There are several Fae gathering in Central Park in hopes of seeing you before the wedding.”
“So?” She folds her arms over her chest, feeling Moon sliding past her from the bedroom.
“Not all of them are here for peaceful means.” He glances at both Catkins. “I came to offer protection until you bond mate came back but it seems you already have that in hand.”
“Stand down, Samuel.” She sighs heavily, one hand laying gently on Moon’s shoulder. “Why should I take your protection?”
He leans against the wall behind him, body relaxing as Samuel stalks away to stand by Eve. “Because I am loyal to you and have given you my oath.”
“Then you can stay but I want you out of sight at all times.” She holds up a finger to stop him as he pushes away from the wall. “Plus you are not allowed in any room with me where you might see me undressed.”
He lifts a brow, slightly amused. “Do you think I would take liberties?”
“I think you would enjoy the show while you could.” She glares at him. “You are male after all and I hate to disappoint you but I’m not in the mood to entertain you or anyone else.”
He smiles, bowing low to her. “As my Queen wishes. I will stay here.”
“Good.” She turns and waves Moon to follow her back to the bedroom. “Samuel will keep you company.”
She closes the door as Samuel curls up in front of it.
She wakes to the smell of bacon and syrup, eyes fluttering open as confusion over the smell hits her. She crawls out of bed and lets Moon help her dress. Blinking tiredly, she opens the door and sees Coyote sitting cross-legged on her floor with a plate of pancakes in his hands. “Where’d you get pancakes? I don’t recall having anything left in my kitchen to make that.”“Good morning, my grumpy Queen.” He smiles back at her. “I thought you might like breakfast so I took the liberty of going to the nearest café and ordering it.”
“Ugh.” She growls out, walking towards the kitchen to see if there’s any tea left. “I’d rather not right now. Not awake enough yet.”
“As you wish, My Queen.” He eats a few bites while watching her make a cup of tea. “What is on the schedule for today?”
“Nothing you need to worry about.” She snarls back, knowing she won’t be able to get rid of him anytime soon.
“My Queen, I am here to protect you so I must know where we are going so I can look for danger.” He narrows his eyes at her. “Would you like me to call your bond mate and tell him you wish to endanger yourself while there are Fae gathering nearby?”
“No!” She snarls back before she can stop herself. She sighs, closing her eyes so she can get a hold of herself. “If you must know, I don’t plan on doing anything until I have to go to my last lesson at 10am.”
“Lesson?” He lifts a brow as he sets the empty plate on the floor. “What kind of lesson?”
“The exotic dancing kind.” She blushes as both eyebrows shoot up as he stares at her in shock. “I’ve been roped into crashing Owen’s bachelor party. I’m supposed to disguise myself and give him a lap dance he doesn’t want.”
Coyote begins laughing so hard he lays down on the floor, tears streaming down his face. “Oh to see the look on his face! That will be priceless!” He wipes the tears from his eyes and tries to calm down. “The old man won’t know what hit him! I have heard enough of his complaining about those types of establishments to know he doesn’t care for them. It is too bad I gave you my oath as I would like to see his face when he realizes you are there!”
She rolls her eyes and tosses back the last of her tea. “I’m personally glad you won’t be. It’ll be awkward enough with David there. Now clean up your mess while I get changed.”
“Yes, My Queen.” He chuckles as he picks up his plate and carries it to the sink.
Elisa frowns as she sees Owen’s car pull up with Someone else driving it and Eve in the passenger side. Eve steps out as soon as the car stops, slamming the door behind her. The driver steps out just as angrily and Elisa grasps in shock.“I don’t care what you say! You are not going in with me!!” Eve growls at him as she stalks towards Elisa.
“I cannot protect you if I cannot see you, My Queen.” He stomps after her.
“Coyote?” Elisa whispers to Eve as she stops next to her. “Seriously?”
“Not my idea and I doubt Owen knows either.” Eve mumbles back. She turns to him and waves at the door to the club. “If you want to go in before me and set up wards, go for it. But you gave your oath and that means you are not going in with me.”
He narrows his eyes at her, frustration written all over his face. “Very well, My Queen, but I do so under protest.” He stalks angrily into the club.
Eve sighs, closing her eyes to get a hold of her anger. Elisa lightly taps her foot, waiting impatiently. “So why is he here then?”
“He swore an oath to me so he’s here to protect me until Owen gets back.” She opens her eyes and scans their surroundings. “Apparently the fae are gathering in Central Park. A few of those don’t care much for me.”
“Well that explains a lot.” Elisa chuckles. “I’ve been getting some weird reports of nearly naked people dancing late at night and lights zipping through the trees that can’t be explained.”
Eve groans. “Can’t they stay inconspicuous?”
“No, they cannot.” Coyote steps out of the club, his shoulders not as tight with anger. “It is clear, My Queen. You may go in now.”
“Thank you, Coyote.” Elisa grins as she loops her arm with Eve, dragging her inside. “I promise to keep an eye on her while you wait outside.”
Eve opens the door, staring out at the car and seeing Coyote still there. She frowns, knowing he was watching her but not sure how. Elisa stands behind her, arms crossed and tapping her foot. “Eve, what exactly did you tell him?”“He’s not allowed in any room that he might see me naked.” Eve’s frowns deepens as Elisa groans. “What did I do wrong?”
“You need to reword that order.” Elisa sighs, pulling her phone from her pocket. “He can still watch you without being in the room.” She begins punching in a number. “I’m calling Owen and giving him a heads up.”
Eve sighs, opening the door more. “Thanks.” She steps out as she hears Elisa start talking to Owen and strides angrily out to the car. She opens the door and slides into the seat.
Coyote smirks and pulls out onto the street. “Was your workout effective?”
“You know it was.” She glares at him. “You were watching me the whole time. I felt it.”
He chuckles softly. “I did not go into the building, My Queen.”
“You didn’t have to and we both know it.” She turns enough to glare out the window. “I’m changing my order to include spying on me while I might be naked,” she glances at him to make sure he is listening “or partially naked.”
His smile drops and his hands tighten slightly on the wheel. “How am I to protect you?”
“That’s not your job.” Her lips twitch up. “That’s Owen’s and he will be making that decision right now.”
He glares at her, his hands tightening more. “You have not called him.”
“I don’t have to.” Her smile turns evil.
The sheet pools around his waist as he sits in the darkened room, phone held tightly. “I see. Thank you for calling, Elisa. I will take care of it right away.” He nearly growls in frustration as he hangs up.
The door opens slightly, Alexander poking his head in enough to see Owen. “Is everything ok? I heard your phone ring and figured it could only be home at this hour.”
“It will be.” He reaches over and snags his robe. “Apparently Coyote has appointed himself guard dog for Eve while I am away.” He pulls the robe on and stands. “I will need your help reaching someone.”
“Sure.” Alexander shrugs and steps into the room. “What do you need? I could give you a quick trip home but it’d be a few hours before I’d be able to bring you back.”
“Nothing so strenuous.” Owen waves him into the bathroom and stands by the mirror. “I need a link set up to Justin’s house so I can have him arrive a bit earlier than expected.”
“Think he will do it?” Alexander waves a hand over the mirror and it begins to glow.
“I am counting on his protectiveness of her.” He sighs as an image of Nalyah appears. “Nalyah.”
Nalyah’s image turns towards the mirror on her side in fear. “Yes, My Lord?”
“Is Justin home?” Owen lifts a brow, surprised she is acting afraid.
“Yes, My Lord.” She takes a step back. “I will go get him.”
Alexander crosses his arms and frowns. “Um, ok. What was that all about?”
“I will find out later. It is not important right now.” He glances away just as Justin enters the image.
“Wow. Heard about using mirrors and all but never seen it til now.” Justin grins. “No wonder Nalyah hates me leaving them uncovered.”
“I wouldn’t normally contact you this way but I thought it would be easier.” Owen’s shoulders eases as he realizes the root of her fear. “My apologies.”
“Not a problem.” Justin frowns. “What’s up?”
“It seems that I will be needing you to arrive sooner than planned.” Owen’s lips twitch up. “Eve will be needing her ‘brother’ at her side.”
Justin’s frown deepens. “Tell me everything.”
Eve closes another box, taping it to keep it from opening. She tries her best to not look up again, knowing Coyote is still sitting on the floor staring at her. She barely keeps herself from grinding her teeth in frustration when her phone rings, causing her to jump in surprise. She grabs it as Coyote stands, eyes narrowed at her. “Hello?”“You didn’t look at the ID.” Owen’s voice sounds tired. “I assume he’s still there?”
“Yep.” She looks up at Coyote and nearly smiles as he scowls at her. “So, what’s up?”
“I take it he wants to monitor your calls as well.” Owen sighs. “You will be getting help but it may be Monday before it can get there. I assume you messed up in your first order to him?”
“Uh huh.” She leans against the counter. “Still a moron on that one.”
“Refrain from calling yourself that in my hearing, My Dear, or I will have to discipline you.” He growls softly. “You will be getting a text that is worded so you will not have any more problems out of him. Tell him you are revising your order. I also want you to keep Moon with you while you sleep and Samuel at the bedroom door.”
“Why?” She glances up again and sees Coyote’s eyes narrow more as he tries to hear her side of the conversation.
“There is a reason why your wards don’t work on them.” He chuckles softly. “Catkins are immune to magic. Pitting Samuel against Coyote will be like pitting a mountain lion against a human. There might be a chance of him coming out on top but it’s a small one.”
Eve grins, making Coyote visibly nervous. “Awesome! Thanks! I’ll do that.”
“Be careful, My Dear.” She can hear the smile in his voice. “He won’t be happy. I love you.”
“Same to you. I’ll see you soon.” She hangs up and starts packing again, ignoring the looks Coyote is giving her.
His scowl worsens when he hears her phone beep a few minutes later. “May I ask who that was, My Queen?”
“You may.” She lifts her phone and smiles at it. “That doesn’t mean I will answer you.”
She tries not to laugh as he growls softly and stalks to the nearest box, grabbing it roughly. “I will stow these for you.” He stalks out the door, nearly slamming it in his anger.
