Disclaimer: I do not own Gargoyles/Disney related but the original character, Eve Anderson, is from my own mind and is not a character of Disney. I get no pay and am only doing this for fun |
Allanna steps into Eve’s office, a folder under one arm as she holds two cups of steaming tea. “I have some more papers that need signed.” She sets down a cup next to Eve’s hand. “You looked like you needed a cup”
Eve sighs, signing the last paper in the stack in front of her. “I definitely need a break.” She rubs her hand. “My hand is starting to cramp up.” She waves Allanna to a seat as she reaches for her cup. “I hate that I have to sign all these only to have them scanned and destroyed later. It’s a waste. I need to see if there’s a way to electronically sign these.”
Allanna smiles as she sip her own tea. “Sounds like a good question for Lisa.”
“Yeah, just gotta get the time to see her.” She leans back in her chair, sipping quietly for a moment. “You realize you have me hooked on this.”
“Nothing wrong with a good cup of chai if it’s done right.” Allanna laughs softly. “So how are things going on the wedding?”
“Hell if I know!” Eve snorts, setting her cup down. “Fox and Owen have pretty much planned the whole thing with some input from me.”
“That might be a blessing.” Allanna chuckles as Eve’s phone begins to ring again. “You have enough stress from the phone ringing off the hook.”
“Exactly.” She grins as she presses the speaker button. “Miss Anderson.”
“Short and to the point. Why am I not surprised, Eve?” Justin’s voice comes from the speaker.
“Cool it, Brat or I’ll come there and give you a piece of my mind!” She rolls her eyes, still smiling.
“You have one left?” He laughs. “I thought you lost that a long time ago.”
“Yep. The moment I met you.” She sips her drink again. “So what do I owe this pleasure to?”
“Thought you’d like to know that the board of directors of Getties Bank sold it and the new owners, G and S Banking Corp, have decided to give him his walking papers.”
Eve grins at Allanna. :That is great news. How is everything else?”
“Great. Everything has settled and Donnelly is loving his new job.”
“Good. I’m glad.” She sighs in relief.
“Did you leave any skin on Owen after he got back?”
“Barely but I did.” She chuckles. “Why? What else did he do that I need to skin him for?”
“He asked me to walk you down the aisle.”
Eve nearly drops her cup in shock. “He did what?”
“He said since I am the closest thing to family you have he wanted me to do the honors.”
Wide eyed, Eve looks up at Allanna, who’s covering her mouth to hide her smile. “But does he know what all is involved in that?”
“Absolutely.” Justin’s voice turns serious. “So now my question to you is, do you want to become a part of my tribe and be bound to me as your blood brother?”
Eve tries to blink back the tears filling her eyes. “Yes. Yes, I do.”
“Then we will be there next Thursday.” She can hear the joy in his voice. “Grandma, mom, and her two sisters will be coming along.”
“I can’t wait.” She wipes at her face. “I’ll make sure there’s rooms ready for you here.”
“You better make sure there is a stall somewhere ready too. Thunder is determined to come with us.”
She giggles, imagining Thunder stomping through the halls of the castle. “I’ll see what I can do, Justin.”
“Until Thursday then.”
“Until Thursday.” She bites her lip as he hangs up, trying not to cry.
Allanna grins, walking towards the door. “I’ll make arrangements with the nearest stable and let Derrick know to get a few more rooms ready.”
“Thanks.” She holds it together until the door closes.
Suddenly the tears overflow and she realizes her father will never get to see her wedding. A soft sob escapes her and she lays her head down on her arms. She doesn’t hear the office door open or close a few minutes later, she is crying so hard. Arms scoop her up and lift her from the chair, carrying her to the chaise lounge in the corner.
Owen settles her on his lap, holding her close as he strokes her hair. “Do you want to talk about it?”
She blinks up at him, feeling him soothing her through the bond as well. “It just hit me that Dad will never see me marry you.” She wipes at her tears with the back of her hand. “When I was little I used to pretend and have him walk me down the hallway as if he was giving me away. He would always tell me he couldn’t wait until he could do it for real.”
He kisses her forehead. “I know it’s little comfort but I believe he will be there, Eve.”
She blinks back the tears, smiling sadly. “What? Are you going to tell me you believe in heaven?”
“No.” He chuckles softly. “But I do believe that our energy or spirit, if you want to call it that, does not go away. I think it lingers in some way and if he can be there, he will.”
She finally calms enough to sit up. “I must look horrible now with my puffy eyes.” She eipes at her face again. “And I probably pulled you away from work.”
“Actually I was coming to see if you wanted to go get some lunch when I felt your sadness hit.” He slides her off of his lap and walks over to her bathroom, running a cloth under cold water. “That is if you feel like eating.”
He walks back and holds the cloth out to her. She wipes her face off, the coolness easing the heat in her eyes and face. “Yeah I think that would be a good idea since I didn’t get much for breakfast.”
He takes the cloth and dabs at a small smear on her cheek until it’s gone. “Well you look beautiful and that is all that matters to me.” He holds out a hand to her. “Shall we?”
She takes his hand, smiling as he hooks it in his arm. “Ever the gentleman.” She laughs. “You do realize you’re gonna pay for asking Justin to walk me down the aisle.”
He opens the door for her, grinning. “I wondered how long before you found out.” He lifts her hand, kissing her knuckles. “And I will pay whatever price you dream up so long as it makes you happy.”
“Flatterer.” She grumbles as she steps out of the office. “Allanna, I’m going out for lunch. Hold all my calls until I get back.”
Allanna grins back as Owen leads Eve down the rows of desks. “Of course, Miss Anderson. Have a good lunch.”
Owen glances at her as they pull into the parking lot of her favorite restaurant. “You’re still thinking too hard. I can feel it.”She sighs, turning in her seat to adjust her skirt. “I just realized the wedding is a week away and I still don’t know what all is going on.”
He shuts the engine off and smiles. “Everything is in place now. I even have a live band for the reception.”
“Your bachelor party?” She grins as he gets out and walks around the car to open her door.
“Don’t remind me.” He mutters sullenly as he gives her a hand out. “David has that planned for Thursday night.”
“You know it’s not fair.” She hooks her arm in his as they walk towards the door. “You get a stripper and I don’t.” She pouts at him. “I just get a party where we play boring games and I open boxes of boring gifts.”
“I would gladly trade you places.” He winks at her as they are ushered inside.
She laughs. “I can’t see you pulling out a teddy and going ‘Oh this will look wonderful on me!’”
His lips twitch up for a moment. “No but I can see it looking ravishing on you.”
“Beast.” She purrs back as they are escorted to their seats. “You just hope they give me something fun to play with as well.”
“Fox has already went shopping at her favorite adult store.” He looks over the menu and tries not to grin.
“Ugh!” Eve sags as she picks up her menu. “Do I even want to know what she got me?”
“I honestly do not know.” He looks at her over the menu. “I was forbidden to go on that trip.”
Eve groans, rubbing at her eyes. “That makes it even worse! We’ll be getting fuzzy cuffs and flavored jars of junk for sure!”
He laughs, setting the menu down and stroking her hand. “And all of that could be fun. Relax. If I have to deal with the strip clubs, then you can deal with the toys.”
She sighs softly, giving his hand a squeeze back. “Ok.”
He waits until the waitress has taken their order before kissing her hand gently. “I have another trip to take.”
She sighs. “No wonder you wanted to go out for lunch. You’re trying to butter me up before the bad news. So when is this trip?”
“Tomorrow.” His lips thin in annoyance. “We have to go back to Tokyo. I’ll be back Thursday afternoon.”
She rolls her eyes. “Really? That means you’ll be jet lagged for everything.”
“Actually, I won’t.” He smiles wearily. “David has hired a pilot this time so I can sleep on the plane on the way home.” He kisses her hand again. “Alexander will be going as well. He will be sharing a room with me to keep the women out.”
Eve tries not to smile. “And how is he going to do that?”
“They won’t allow courtesans in a room with an underage person.” He looks up as the waitress brings their appetizer. “Besides, he has to learn the ropes at some point.”
“Does he really want to go into the family business?” She dips a chip in the salsa.
“I wasn’t sure until the banquet.” He sips his wine. “But he enjoyed himself and asked for this assignment.”
She sighs, her expression going blank. “Why Justin?”
His thumb strokes her palm soothingly. “You value family and he is the only close family you have left. It wasn’t that hard for me to decide.”
Her lips twitch up. “I’m glad you did but you do realize he’s gonna be a pain in your ass now. If he thinks you are doing me wrong even in the slightest, he’ll be all over you.”
Owen grins. “I’m counting on it.”
Eve chuckles and takes a sip of her tea. “You’re a glutton for punishment.”
“I just love a challenge.” He winks at her. “I see you keeping me very challenged.”
She groans and rolls her eyes.
