After watching Layla turn and run back toward Alfea, Icy didn't feel like flying straight back to Cloud Tower so she decided to walk back instead. It would take a lot longer, but then she wanted some time alone to think before she got back and had to inform Darcy about her progress. The dark witch would want full details and Icy wasn't quite sure she fully understood what had just happened herself. She'd spent all day tracking the water fairy down so she could get her alone and talk to her. They had wound up meeting after school down by the lake. In the end they hadn't done all that much talking. What she had learned just seemed to confirm what she and Darcy had already guessed. The dark-skinned princess was attracted to Icy and was trying hard to convince herself it was something else. That kind of self-deception could be very blinding. Icy knew that Layla wanted her bad and would tell herself virtually any lie to make herself believe that was okay. Darcy would love that.
What was bothering Icy wasn't Layla's behavior, which she found completely explicable. What was bothering her was her own behavior. They had a plan. Seduce the fairy slowly, ease her into being okay with their relationship, build it to the point where the fairy cared more about her than her friends, then tear it all apart and utterly destroy her prey. That was the plan. The problem was Icy found herself not sticking to the plan. She had pushed too hard, scared Layla off. Oh, she'd be back. Of that Icy had no doubt. What she didn't understand is why she seemed to want to rush things. She just couldn't seem to help herself when she got around the chocolate-colored beauty.
The first time they had kissed it had been a purely spontaneous act, driven by some inexplicable impulse and fueled by the fairy's act of appreciation. It hadn't been until Layla stopped her from leaving and kissed her back that she had suddenly recalled the events on Theorbella two years prior, events which had been wiped from her mind along with every other memory by the potion they had meant to erase the memories of the populace of Magix. It was irritating how bits and pieces of her memory were still coming back to her like this long after Lucy's revelation of their past had opened the wellspring for them. Just how long would it take until she finished recovering all of her memories? How many were still missing? Would she ever even know for sure?
Regardless, those resurfacing memories had helped spark a surge of special interest in the dark-skinned princess. She recalled the torment of spending nights lying in the same room with the water fairy, squirming in torment not only from her broken leg but also from being so close to this gorgeous creature and not being able to either fuck her or fight her. She'd wanted to cover the dark goddess with her body, bear her down against the mattress, bite her breasts, devour her lips, claw at her hips, plunge her fingers deep into her core, yank on her hair, throw one dark, limber leg over her shoulder as she rode her, scratch at her eyes, ride her ass and bend her back by her hair until she screamed, just something, anything to ease the torment of being with her.
But no. She couldn't do any of those things. Because she needed her. They needed each other to survive. They had to work together, and that meant keeping things civil between them. Passion of any kind could not be allowed to grow between them. Not while their very lives were at stake. One miscommunication between them could turn such a powder keg into a violent explosion of emotions that would destroy them both, and Icy had too great a destiny to fulfill to throw it all away like that. So the ice witch schooled herself to hide her feelings, something she was very good at when it suited her to do so.
Showering had been the worst. Because of their respective injuries they had been forced to do it together, to help each other do what the other could not alone. Actually seeing Layla's luscious naked body before her, wet and firm and tantalizingly close, had been maddening. She wanted to dominate the dark-skinned princess so badly...
By the time they had found a way off Theorbella and back to Magix Icy's leg had knitted up enough for her to walk on it for short periods of time. She had pushed herself hard after that to get back into proper fighting shape. That agony had been nothing compared to the torture of spending almost 2 weeks wanting something she couldn't allow herself to have when it was right within her very grasp. Thinking back on that now it became clear to her why she kept pushing Layla so hard, why she kept plying her with kisses every chance she got. She was safe now, back in control of her own life. Now she wanted to take that which the whims of fate had denied her. She wanted the water fairy for herself, and she wanted her now! She wanted everything she'd been taunted with on Theorbella and couldn't have. She wanted the opportunity she'd been denied back then. She wanted Layla.
The problem, as she saw it, was that she was acting on her desires, running on instinct rather than following the plan. If she stuck with the plan she'd get what she wanted. The problem was the plan was meant to work slowly. She didn't want to wait. She wanted Layla now, dammit! But if she tried to move too fast the water fairy would slip right through her fingers, like every other good thing in her life. Darcy was the only thing Icy had ever wanted which she had actually been able to keep, but then Darcy was easy. Darcy was a trained slut who would gladly put out for anyone as long as she got what she wanted in return. She took all of Icy's abuse and loved it because Icy always made sure to make her cum good and hard before they were through. Everything else though, the Dragonfire, the Army of Decay, the Ultimate Magic, the massive accumulation of magic spells Darkar had been building up, everything she had worked and fought for these past three years had been taken away from her just when it was within her grasp. She wanted a win she could keep for once, and she wasn't gonna get that by being an idiot. She had to start playing it smarter.
With such thoughts occupying her mind time passed quickly and Icy soon found herself on the edge of Gloomywood Forest, the woods that surrounded Cloud Tower. She still had a bit of a hike left through the woods, but soon enough she'd be back home. Gloomywood was home to some dangerous creatures, but nothing that posed a serious threat to a fully-trained witch on her guard. She was startled though to hear something come crashing through the brush behind her, headed in her direction. She whirled to face this unexpected menace. Whatever was coming wasn't making any attempt to conceal its approach. If it proved to be dangerous it wouldn't be so for long.
When the source of the disturbance finally came into view the ice witch was shocked. It was Layla! She was running and stumbling half-blind with tears streaming down her face. What the hell was she doing in this neck of the woods in such a state? Icy lowered her guard stance and called out to her.
"Layla!"
The water fairy stopped and stared in surprise at the last person she had expected to stumble into.
"Icy? W-Where are we? What're you doing here?"
Icy planted one hand on her hip and held out the other one.
"We're halfway to Cloud Tower is where we are. I'm here because it's a nice evening and I decided to walk. What're you doing here? You look terrible."
Layla looked around in bewilderment.
"I- I don't know what I'm doing here. I just started running and ..."
Icy frowned at that. She couldn't have been running since they parted at the lake, could she? And she sure didn't remember tears running down the fairy's cheeks when they last parted. She stepped closer and placed both hands on the distraught fairy's shoulders.
"Calm down Layla. You're not making any sense. Did something happen after you left me?"
Layla looked the ice witch in the face. She really seemed concerned for her.
"I kissed Musa! I can't believe I did that. How could I be so stupid?"
Icy cocked an eyebrow at that.
"Okay, this story I have to hear. Come on."
She put an arm around the hysterical girl, led her over to the base of a nearby tree and urged her to sit as she sat down beside her.
"There now. Just take a deep breath, close your eyes and start at the beginning. You seemed a little freaked out when you left the lake, but otherwise alright. Not like this. Where did you go from there? What happened?"
Layla followed Icy's advice, closing her eyes and taking a big breath before she started her story.
"I headed back to Alfea after I left you. I saw Mirta and Musa in the quad and decided to talk to them."
A sneaking suspicion formed in Icy's mind.
"About us."
Layla nodded and opened her eyes, but didn't look up.
"Yeah. About us. I told them about how we were becoming friends, how I wanted to help you, about how we kissed..."
Icy rolled her eyes up toward the sky and leaned back to thunk the back of her head against the tree trunk.
"Oh stars. You didn't!"
Layla nodded miserably.
"I did. I just wanted some advice, and I figured that they'd be the best ones to give it to me..."
Icy stared hard at the water princess.
"Let me guess. They did."
When Layla sniffed and nodded, Icy bore on through the silence.
"And they advised you to stay the hell away from me."
Layla squeezed her eyes shut and nodded, fresh tears rolling down her cheeks. Icy sucked in a deep breath, held it for a moment, then blew it out in frustration. She wanted to strangle the water fairy with her bare hands, but that would have seriously jeopardized the plan.
"And I take it you told them to go to hell?"
Layla opened her eyes and finally looked at the ice witch again.
"I got really mad at them. They just didn't want to listen to what I had to say. They're convinced you can't be trusted."
Icy gave a mischievous grin.
"Sounds like you've got some smart friends."
At Layla's shocked look the ice witch waved both her hands in the air.
"I'm kidding! I'm kidding! I mean, I'm sure your friends are smart, for a couple of fairies, but that doesn't mean you can't trust me."
Layla gave her a sour face.
"Icy, don't joke about this! Right now I'm not even sure I can trust me."
Icy gave her a serious look.
"Why's that?"
Layla looked down again, gnawing on her lower lip for a moment before answering.
"Because when Musa threw my own words back in my face about how your kisses knocked my socks off, I got mad and did probably the stupidest thing I've ever done. I kissed her."
Icy's voice dripped with sarcasm as she responded.
"You got mad and kissed her. Right. That makes perfect sense. Because I always kiss the people I'm mad at when they cheese me off."
Layla looked even more miserable than before.
"I... I dunno what I was thinking. I guess I thought maybe I could prove that it's okay for friends to kiss friends, that it doesn't have to mean anything."
Icy actually managed to look sympathetic.
"But instead it got turned into a big thing and now they're mad at you."
Layla gave a sorrowful nod.
"They both looked at me like they couldn't believe what I'd just done. I kinda couldn't believe it myself. I was so ashamed I just turned and ran."
Icy realized she was staring at a golden opportunity here if she played her cards right. She placed an arm around Layla's shoulders and pressed her other hand lightly to the dark-skinned girl's chest.
"Well it's a good thing you ran into me. You were just about to enter Gloomywood Forest. If you'd gone in there in your state of mind I doubt you'd have ever made it out again."
Layla winced as she realized what she'd almost done.
"Maybe it would have been better if I had disappeared. Then everyone could stop worrying about what a hopeless case I am."
Icy grabbed her by the chin and forced her to look right at her.
"Hey! Don't you EVER talk that way about yourself, you got that? You're just going through a rough period right now. That does NOT make you hopeless. And do you really think all your friends would be happy if you suddenly disappeared on them?"
Layla was stunned by the fierce look on Icy's face as she said these things. This sure didn't sound like the Icy she knew from three months prior! Her eyes twitched to the sides as she thought this over.
"Well, no, I guess not."
Icy let go of her chin and forged ahead.
"You're damn right they wouldn't. Look, I don't know much about all this friendship stuff, but I do know that you don't give up on yourself just because you screw things up. What you need to do is go back and make things right. Apologize to your friends and tell them you're sorry for what you did."
It took everything Icy had to spit these words out without puking. She could hardly stand to spout such drivel, but this Layla was no good to her. She needed the confident Layla back. If that meant giving her a little pep talk then fine. She'd deal. Layla looked at her in shock then slowly nodded.
"You're right. I shouldn't give up on my friends just because I did something stupid. I need to go back and apologize to Musa."
Icy nodded and stood up, then turned and offered her hand to Layla.
"Now you're making sense. Here. You look exhausted. Let me fly you home."
Layla accepted the hand up but shook her head.
"No, I'm okay. I can make it back alright on my own."
Icy folded her arms and gave the water fairy a forbidding scowl.
"Absolutely not. You just ran halfway from Alfea to Cloud Tower with no idea where you were going. I'm not letting you out of my sight until I see you safely home. So just shut up and let me carry you."
Layla blinked at the vehemence in Icy's voice, then lowered her head a little and gave a meek nod.
"Alright. If you insist."
What the hell was she thinking? Icy berated herself for making this offer without thinking it through. Was she really about to fly all the way back to Alfea with this gorgeous woman in her arms? Damn it! It was going to be difficult to resist the temptation to stop off somewhere and start kissing her and trying to worm her way into her shorts. The trouble she got herself into when her mouth got ahead of her brain! She walked over and placed an arm around the black girl's shoulders, then got the other arm behind her knees and scooped her up in both arms. Layla in turn looped an arm around Icy's shoulders, which definitely did NOT help the situation at all. With her passenger all loaded up, Icy took to the sky, making a beeline directly back to Alfea. This was going to be one hell of a flight!
