She should not have come with him. She should not be alone with him. She had no idea what he wanted yet, she blindly agreed to go with him. What was she thinking?
Katara fell onto his back as the rhino stumbled over the ground. She tried her best not to touch his body with her chest but she swore he found the rockiest ground and purposely steered the rhino mount towards it; causing her to jerk her body forward and lean against his back. Everytime she straightened the mount would suddenly stumble over uneven ground and push her back into his hard muscled back. The path they were on had been there for centuries and was well worn from the many settlers traveling upon it. This made her certain that he was going off course on purpose.
Zuko removed his right hand from the reigns and rested it on her thigh and she froze.
“Are you alright?”
She did not hear any amusement in his voice even if she was staring him in the face, she could not tell if he was amused. Katara gave a soft reply that she was fine but he did not remove his hand.
She tried to ignore the warmth coming from the simple touch by watching the brightly colored leaves falling to the ground as they slowly traveled down the path. The huge forest of trees on either side of the twenty-foot wide path stood as if they were guarding them from interruption. She could not see in the darkness behind them but knew from Sokka’s letters it held beauty and danger. The warm air, the singing fowl, and the bright colors of summer helped her forget the man she was clinging to was her enemy. Katara closed her eyes and raised her face towards the sun. This was a beautiful place.
He felt her relaxing against his back. Her simple touch ignited the fire in his blood more than Xin Fu’s actions ever would. He could feel the softness of her breasts pressing against him and his body began to harden. Whether she knew, what she was doing or not, his simple touch could be just as effective. His hand moved slightly higher on her thigh. Zuko felt her instantly stiffen, and move away from his back.
Katara stared at his hand resting on her thigh. “I will not fall off.”
“You are trembling.”
“I am not; I just don’t want to lean on you.” His hand did not move as she waited for his reply.
“Your weight is nothing I am strong Katara.” His hand moved slowly as a caress before he removed it. He heard her release the breath she was holding and a small smirk crossed his face. He steered the mount over uneven ground and again her soft body pressed hard against his back. The smirk widened almost into a smile hearing her groan in frustration.
“Why are you going into town and why do I need to come with you?”
Zuko pulled the reigns hard and the beast stopped. Katara’s cheek touched his back as the sudden action caused her to slam into him. She felt him dismounting and stared down at him as he slid off the beast and looked up at her. She protested when his hands touched her waist and pulled her from the saddle.
He just stared down at her with that unreadable expression. She began to wonder if she had asked the wrong question as he continued to make her feel uneasy about being alone with him.
“This town was and is still loyal to my father. I have never been here and they have never seen me. They only know that I have this scar. They are not Avatar sympathizers and your presence will not please them. However, they do not know your beauty only your name and that you are a water bender.” He turned from her and reached into one of the saddlebags. A small container was in his hands when he turned back towards her.
He handed it to her and Katara slowly took it. He walked towards a stump and sat down as she stared at him.
“Come,”
She slowly walked towards him staring into his burning golden eyes. He pulled his long hair back from the burn and nodded at her to open the container. The cream inside was clear and cool to the touch. He wanted her to cover his burn with it.
She thought the skin would be hard and rough as he was but it was not. It was soft and warm to her touch. She gently smoothed the cream beneath his eye and watched the natural color of his skin begin to come to the surface like magic. She could feel the tension in his face fading away as her hand carefully moved across his skin. She gently glided the cream over his cheek taking care to cover every inch of skin. She could not believe he would let her touch the mark his father gave him. It was his symbol of anger and violence. He guarded it with a fierceness that was unmatched but now he allowed, beckoned her to stand before him and soothe the wound that governed his life.
She did not want to think of all the cruelty that came his way because of his decision to question his father’s battle plans. What strength he had as a young child to do such a thing. He held such compassion for others until the burning. He was forced to do what he knew was wrong to please his father and regain his honor, but in the end, he did what was right for the entire world and ended Ozai’s reign forever. He deserved kindness from her. He was the selfless one not she. He would bear the evidence of his decision forever.
Her eyes drifted down towards his body. She had always thought that he was handsome despite the scar and his constant anger. Now that he had all the power, every other woman thought so also. She did not want to be one of them and refused to let her body rule her life. Anger was her only defense against him and she would feed it to keep him away. So why was she touching him?
She could see his muscular physique through the black top. His strength she could not deny. She had felt it the first day she arrived. Her body tingled with the memory of his chest crashing into hers. She did not admit it then but it was hard to forget the heat from his skin that enveloped her. She could see why so many wanted to be the mother of his child. He would consume you; fulfill all his desires while fulfilling yours. Katara let a shaky breath escape as the thought ran across her mind.
She felt uncomfortable standing there touching his face. How had her thoughts gone from feeling sorrow for him to desiring to feel his strength again? He was a very powerful man capable of killing with his bear hands but he allowed her close…closer than most. Knowing this sent a tingle over her body. He wanted her to touch him and know his pain and his power.
The touch was gentle and cool on his skin. Zuko closed his eyes and allowed his body to relax to her gentle ministrations. Once she covered the skin over his eye, he opened them and watched her face. Her eyes held sorrow, softness and something else that he would discover before the day was over. Her natural desire to soothe and comfort poured from her body and into her touch. His pain affected her more than she cared to admit. She had the reactions of a lover…of a mother.
She saw him staring at her and gasped at the intensity in his eyes. Her hand stopped moving on his cheek and he gently grabbed it when she tried to remove it. Zuko released his hair and it fell over his no longer visible scar. He slowly stood forcing Katara to take a step back as he towered over her. He still held her hand as he reached out to touch the skin on her cheek. She expected it to burn but his touch was warm as it moved down her exposed neck. She tried to move away but he released her hand and his arm circled her waist. His strength pulled her hard against his body.
“You have softness for me.”
The container fell from her hands as Katara pushed at his chest and glared into his eyes. “Your mind plays tricks on you.”
Zuko grabbed a handful of her dark hair and pulled her head back. His lips touched her neck and he instantly felt her freeze. Her heartbeat slammed against her chest at an amazing pace.
“You would heal me if I were injured because it is in your nature. I know that you have kindness for me inside of you because you have showed it to me long before I became Emperor. Circumstances before would not allow me to return it then but I can return it now.”
She braced herself for his kiss. Her body trembled and shivered as his lips slowly moved up her neck but he released her. She could not describe the feeling inside of her as he stood back from her and picked up the small container from the ground. Katara turned away from him as he walked towards the beast to replace the container in the saddlebags. Her heartbeat continued to race out of control even though his assault was over much too soon.
He watched her in her confusion. She slowly turned around to stare up at him. He moved closer and smoothed the wayward strands of hair from her face.
“I have brought you to see the beauty that lives here even though danger lives among it. You will address me as Li and I will address you as Kya. Sokka has mentioned the name when he speaks of you sometimes. We shall appear as a newly married couple. There will be less violence if you belong to me. Do not bend I will not allow any harm to come to you. Do you trust me?”
His eyes were hypnotic and she could not turn away from him. He had tricked her with the cream. He had to know that she would feel sorrow for his pain. He knew from the healing of his men that she would give of herself to end anyone’s suffering and he had used her. Her skin began to tingle as he continued to stare at her. Did she trust him? Did she trust him?
“Yes”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A foreigner lived inside her body. She did not know herself. Where did that response come from? Why was it so easy now for her to place her arms around him as they slowly traveled down the path leading into town? It was pity she felt and nothing more than that. This was all her fault for helping him cover his burn. How could she think he would kiss her? How could she want him to kiss her? Why had he not?
Zuko silently listened to her fretful sighs as they traveled into town. She could not stop her nature. She was bound to it. It was as the rising of the sun. She would show him her strength, which she saw as weakness. Did she know that she could have whatever she wanted including him?
There were many benders here. Earth, fire, and water lived in harmony here. They wanted the old ways to return. They wanted to rule their own nations and they wanted the people to lose their hope in the Avatar. They would kill her if they knew she were among them. She watched a fire bender showing his skill to a few earth benders that were of the same clan as he. They were of the resistance that attacked the Emperor’s men. They had never seen his face but they fought him with every fiber of their being. They wanted hardship and domination to return so that they could have the power Zuko wielded. He would never let that happen.
Katara looked around the village and its bustling shops and inns. There were so many of the resistance here and they were beginning to stare at her.
The Innkeeper watched the traveler as he slowly came through the center of the busy town. He had never seen him before and he had seen a lot. His eyes gazed over the tall muscular man with the hard face ignoring those gawking at him. He was one of power the innkeeper could tell. He would not fall for any of the tricks of the merchants here. He was a warrior.
The Innkeeper watched the mount pass by him and that was when he saw what the others had seen. She was dressed in black concealing clothing but her beauty shown through. She was a breath of cool wind to soothe your aching heart. She was like dew upon a flower that one could only gaze at before it disappeared as if a dream. She would haunt your dreams if you did not posses her; and that was why he was a warrior and you would never posses her.
The innkeeper rubbed his long beard and sent one of his servants out into the street to bring the travelers to his place of rest. He knew he had the one thing the warrior needed a good room with a good bed.
The town was as Iroh had said noisy and uncoordinated. How could any resistance come from here and lead such coordinated attacks on his men. He had to find the source helping them. Slender arms tightened around his waist as the voice of a young man filled the air. He called for him and Zuko stopped his mount.
“Sire please my master has the best rooms in town. Even the great Iroh has slept here unmolested. We have the best in security for your woman. The rooms are going fast, my master has selected you as a special guest, and you can view the festival tonight from your room without disturbance. Please come you will find the room to your desires.”
She had heard of this festival of lights but never got the chance to see them it was too dangerous then. She heard Zuko agree with the young man and give him some money to secure the room. A shocked expression filled the young man’s face when he saw the amount of money that he held.
“We will return later.”
The man bowed profusely and ran off to secure the room.
They stopped before a teashop after a good mile outside of the noisy town. The benders that were staring at Katara earlier followed them at a respectful distance but Zuko knew they did not have respectful intentions.
He dismounted and helped Katara from the saddle and gently set her feet on the ground. He felt her tremble in his grip. She looked surprised by the reaction of her body to his touch. She tried to back away from him but the beast was there to block her escape. He loomed over her still holding her waist.
“My uncle says this is a perfect place for tea.”
What was wrong with her it was if she could not stand to look into his eyes without feeling uncomfortable? She lowered her head.
“He is always right.” She felt him move closer and lift her chin. She felt the power in his hand that he held at bay to be gentle with his touch. The muscles of his body seemed coiled for an attack from what Katara did not know. All she knew was that he was moving closer and closer towards her. That uncomfortable feeling returned with hunger. It wanted what he denied earlier. It caused her to tremble and lose her breath. His lips were almost touching hers. How quickly things change when no one is watching.
“Is she alright or does she require some assistance.”
Zuko pulled away from her once again to answer the three men staring at Katara with unfavorable intentions.
Strong arms moved Katara slightly behind him but she could see that they were sizing him up for a fight. The leader seemed to be the fire bender. He was the voice of the group while his two companions did whatever he wanted.
He smiled at Katara with a chipped tooth and then returned his attention to Zuko. He looked over the man in black standing there with supreme confidence. The woman’s man was taller than he looked on the beast he rode. He watched the muscles flexed on the man’s body and then lifted his eyes to burning golden ones glaring down at him. He knew the man would fight for the woman and that they would lose maybe even die trying to take her from him. If he were a bender, he hid it well.
“Any assistance my wife requires I will give it.”
“Yes I can see that. You should keep an eye on her there are those who have evil intent on their minds. If you have any trouble with those unfavorable types my name is Sanyo and I will take care of your problem.”
“My problem right now is you interrupting me with my wife.”
The two men with Sanyo felt the heat from the stranger and began backing away. Sanyo did not notice his men retreating as he continued to annoy the man in black.
Sanyo chuckled showing he had more than one chipped tooth. “I mean no harm to you or your beautiful woman. She could get herself into a lot of trouble here.”
Zuko walked closer to the chipped tooth assassin until their bodies met. “You could do the same if I see you near us again.”
It was now that the man noticed that he was alone in his quest to take the woman. Sanyo began to back away no longer smiling or chuckling.
“We will see you around stranger.” He continued to watch Zuko as he joined his men walking back into town.
The tea cooled in the gentle breeze blowing from the ocean just down the jagged rocks below. Her smile made his blood ignite when she directed it at him.
He would never forget the smile that crossed her lips when she heard the roar of the ocean. She said the feel was different here then at the palace. He guessed he had to be a water bender to understand but he did not care; just watching her explained everything.
She turned from watching the water still wearing the smile. “This is beautiful”
“One of two things I know that are beautiful.”
Katara stared into his golden eyes for a second losing her smile and then looking away. Her cup suddenly became her focus point. Where was her courage just because she touched him and her body longed to feel his arms again was no reason to act as if she was some silly woman? She had seen him without a shirt before. However, that was four year prior to now, and he grown into a man. A tremor went through her body and now she desperately wished she had refused to come with him.
“Why do you keep saying that to me?”
“Saying what, that you are beautiful? You are beautiful even your enemy can see that.”
Katara looked up from her tea and glared at his smirking face. “Well then can my enemy see that I do not want to be the mother of his child?”
She quieted her voice even though they were the only patrons in the teashop.
A frown replaced the smirk on his face and she felt a small victory until he began his retort. “So you could live with the fact that another woman would know my touch, that another woman would know my kiss. This woman would know my strength and she would be the only one to feel my…”
“Yes I could live with that.” She blurted out to stop his words.
Zuko stared into the darkening blue eyes and leaned across the table. “But could your body live without it Katara, I feel your response to me everytime I touch you? I have seen your longing looks at me. I felt you relax in my arms the night of the raid.”
“I was exhausted and did not know what I was doing.”
“Did you know what you were doing today when you touched me?”
“You tricked me.” She turned away from him and looked out towards the water. She felt his breath on her neck but refused to look to her right and see that in fact he had moved beside her.
“Tell me does my body meet your standards.”
She wanted to push him away but he pinned her arms to her body when his arm circled her waist. She looked up at him with surprise and that uncomfortable hunger returned.
She watched his eyes travel along the skin hugging black top and bottoms with the same possessiveness he showed in her room when Xin Fu made his mistake. He pulled her closer and watched her eyes soften.
“Your body exceeds my dreams.”
His voice was a whisper in her ear but her entire body trembled. Maybe she was like all the other women. Once in the arms of a warrior one could not help but submit.
She wanted him to be cruel and unfeeling to her but he was speaking as a man would to a woman he wanted. She did not want to cling to his body as they rode down the path towards another secret place only he knew. She could not be alone with him she discovered that he was different with her, softer, gentle. She hated it.
He would have to thank his uncle for his suggestions so far. The water maiden fretted over what her body knew but her head refused to believe. She thought he was all violence and no softness. She responded to both with passion and she hated it.
Zuko turned the mount into a grassy area flanked by an endless maze of flowers seven feet high in some places. He dismounted and helped her down even though she resisted she still trembled. His smirk made her push his hands away from her waist. Zuko unhooked a blanket that he packed and walked a distance away and laid it on the ground. He turned back to look at her still standing beside the beast.
“Come,”
Again that command that got her into this trouble to begin with. She would not fall for it again. She watched his brow crinkle when she did not obey him. “Come or will I have to come get you.”
She was quick and disappeared into a row of flowers to her right. She could not hear him over the pounding of her heart. She turned down several of the aisles in the maze that all looked the same to her. Katara tried to calm her breathing as the thought of what Zuko would do to her came to her mind and body. Fear and that uncomfortable hunger from earlier filled her body as she ran down another row of flowers.
She turned right and then left trying to confuse her follower but he was nowhere in sight. She spotted an opening at the far end of the row she was in and ran towards it. Air rushed from lungs as her body made contact with the ground. The weight above her was a coiled mass of angry muscle. She lay on her back with Zuko firmly planted between her thighs. Katara arched her back trying to get him to move off her body so she could breathe.
His smile held violence or the promise of it as he looked down at her struggling beneath him. Zuko lifted his body from hers and allowed her air. Katara took three deep breaths and then kneed him in the side. Zuko fell to the side of her body as she tried to roll away. He gripped the top she wore and it ripped as she moved away from him. Katara tried to cover herself but he moved too quickly and returned her to the position he held her before. This time he pinned her wrists above her head with one hand.
She did not struggle watching him move the tattered material of her shirt to cover her exposed her breasts. He would not let her wear anything under it saying it would be warm. She now wondered if he would supply the warmth. When he eyes met hers, they were dark and he felt her trembling as she tried to catch her breath.
“Do that again and I will rip every piece of fabric from your body and make you tell me you want me.”
She cursed her traitorous body when it shivered with pleasure as he lowered his lips towards hers. Now he would end this uncomfortable hunger growing inside of her. A small breathless whimper escaped her lips before he rolled off her body and sat up.
Katara rolled to her side and hugged her body for a while as he watched. She slowly sat up and looked at him. He was not expecting the slap against his cheek. It echoed through the garden and her frustrated scream followed it.
Zuko secured her hands behind her back when she tried to fight him. He released her wrists into one hand as he grabbed her long hair and held her head immobile as his lips consumed hers. His hot breath scalded her skin as he opened his mouth over hers trying to get more of her taste from her lips. He pressed her wrists painfully into her back forcing her closer to him as he smothered her whimpers and angrily continued to kiss her.His grip in her hair tightened when he felt her strength for fight waning against his power. He released her wrists and forced her down onto the grass still assaulting her mouth with his.
She felt the air and his warm hands on her skin as he ripped the top to shreds. Her arms fell limp in the grass as her body jerked with every yank upon her clothing; he did not stop until she was naked beneath him. She felt so weak from his assault. Where was the strength she had but a moment ago? It was as if his very touch drained the resistance from her body. The more she submitted to him the more aggressive he became. He pulled away to remove his top and returned his lips to hers for a moment and then down to her breasts to capture a nipple.
Her soft moans filled the garden and Zuko began to remove his bottoms with urgency. His warm hands roamed over her skin leaving a burning sensation in their wake. Katara arched towards him instead of away. Zuko licked and bit the flesh around her breasts. He was certain of one thing, the moment he returned to his home every woman and her advisor would leave for he had made his choice.
Katara gasped when he made room for himself between her thighs and kissed down her stomach.
“I think we came just in time.”
Zuko blocked their view of her naked body with his. Katara sat up and held the torn fabric of her top to her breasts. She watched four men and Sanyo come through the garden maze and block the only exit to freedom. Apparently, he thought he had enough men to take Zuko down.
His chipped tooth grin was back and wider then ever as Zuko sat there and looked at his opponents.
All eyes went to the naked and aroused man before them. Sanyo lost his grin, as did his men. The chipped tooth grin showed itself to Katara as he looked at her.
“We saved you from certain pain I’m sure you will reward us for this.”
Sanyo lit fire above his opened palms and glared at Zuko. “Place your hands above your head and move away from the woman.”
Calm was the only word Katara could think of to describe Zuko’s behavior. He slowly placed his hands above his head.“Oh don’t worry about the woman we’ll…finish her off after we finish you.”
It sounded as if an insect flew pass her right ear before one of the men standing at the only exit fell with an arrow in his chest. Three more fell before Sanyo noticed. His fire disappeared and he stared at Zuko as he lowered his hands and stood.
Masked men dressed in black came from every direction and Sanyo swallowed hard seeing all the elements of nature except air before him. Two men made him kneel on the ground before the Emperor.
One of the men brought Zuko his bottoms and gave Katara his top.
“Jai”
The tall man that Katara had healed yesterday removed his mask and bowed his head. “Sire”
“Take him back to Zhao.”
Jai waved his hand and his men dragged Sanyo from the garden bound and gagged. As quickly as they came, they were gone leaving no evidence of a battle behind. Zuko stood watching Katara with her head lowered and clutching his top to her body.
A few moments passed before she raised her head to look at him only wearing his bottoms. The hard expression on his face only made her body ache more and she held the top tighter. The ache between her thighs was relentless and grew stronger the longer she looked at him. Katara turned away and then lowered her head knowing he knew of the ache he caused. She could not trust her own body any longer. She could not be alone with him.
