Chapter Eight: Happy Happy Joy Joy
Barricade woke up slowly. After going offline for about twenty minutes, he'd fallen into recharge. Shifting onto his side, he faced Bumblebee. The yellow Autobot looked so sweet, so innocent, so... easily broken. He remembered the merge they had shared, and even if he couldn't remember everything after the reboot, he remembered how much he had enjoyed it. With a smile, he trailed his fingers over Bumblebee's helm lightly.
Bumblebee snuggled closer to Barricade, his optics still closed. He felt completely relaxed and enjoyed the mech's touch. One arm wrapped around Barricade gently.
Still with a smile on his angular face, Barricade moved in closer to Bumblebee, one arm around his shoulders, the other around his waist. They were still in the cell, but the door was unlocked and he didn't care so much. He just leant in and began to kiss the Camerro gently.
Bumblebee slowly opened his eyes, smiling up at the larger mech and kissing back, "I love you so much, Barricade..."
Barricade smiled, as before finding a little difficulty saying those words himself. But hearing them - from Bumblebee at least - felt good. With Bumblebee lying half on top of him, he felt cosy and protected, "I... didn't have any bad dreams last night," he said, smiling.
"That's nice..." Bumblebee sighed. He ran his fingers across the Decepticon's cheek lovingly.
"I can leave this cell now," Barricade said. He turned his face and kissed the tips of Bumblebee’s fingers lightly, before sitting up on the edge of the bunk, "I can leave... into a base filled with Autobots," he began to pick at the words 'to punish and enslave' painted on his shoulders, "It still feel like it's a trick, a little."
Smiling, Bumblebee stood up. "You want me to come with you? I'll take you to my room, shall I?" He asked, holding out his hand to help the other mech up.
There was a brief pause, and then Barricade took Bumblebee's hand and stood up, "Yeah, I'd like that," he said, surprised a little at his own words. They left the cell and started to walk down the corridors towards the main part of the base.
Bumblebee held Barricade's hand gently and smiled. "The Autobots won't hurt you." He reassured, opening the door into the base.
"Yeah, probably because they think if they try, I'd hurt you," Barricade answered. He still wasn't sure if he trusted the Autobots. Trusting Bumblebee was another matter. Barricade wasn't really sure that he saw him as an Autobot any more, just like he didn't really see himself as a Decepticon any longer.
Bumblebee kissed Barricade on the cheek, "I promise you... it’s not like that..."
Barricade shifted a little awkwardly, but smiled again, "I... I trust you," he said, still holding Bumblebee's hand. His fear was slowly evaporating in the yellow Autobot's presence, and he felt... safe.
Smiling, Bumblebee led the Decepticon into his room by the hand, earning a few confused stares from the other Autobots they passed.
Barricade sat on a metal chair in Bumblebee’s room. This bedroom was by far more preferable to the cell, furnished with nothing more than an uncomfortable bunk, and he relaxed a little, twisting his hands together, "Um," he said awkwardly, his face hardening again, "Is this where I will be recharging? Or will I get my own room?"
"What would you rather have?" Bumblebee asked, smiling as he rested his hand on Barricade's lap.
"Well," Barricade was blushing a little, "It is nice being with you... but so far... I'm not sure I want to be with you every night. I’ll still want some time to myself, you know?"
"I understand," Bumblebee smiled. "If you're sure, we can go talk to Prime about it and he'll get you a good room." He lay back on his bed, enjoying the comfort.
"Talk to Prime?" Barricade asked, "What, right now?"
"If you want." Bumblebee replied, scratching his head.
"Well, uh..." Barricade was starting to stand up, when somebody knocked at the door.
"Come in." Bumblebee called through the door, it opened revealing the face of Optimus Prime.
He looked a little surprised at seeing Barricade sitting at the table, but smiled at Bumblebee, "I was just coming in to see how you got on with your release of Barricade," he told the Camerro.
Bumblebee smiled back, "See, I told you I could trust him!" he said in happiness, taking hold of Barricade's hand, "He's a nice guy after all..."
"So... I see you're still here," Optimus told Barricade. The Saleen looked slightly uncomfortable and pulled his hand away from Bumblebee's, "Does that mean you're feeling a little better about things?"
"Can I still leave whenever I want?" Barricade asked, glaring slightly.
"Of course," Optimus told him.
"Then yes, I am feeling better," Barricade replied, "A little."
Bumblebee looked at Barricade, "Are you okay?"
Barricade paused, "Yeah, I'm fine," he said awkwardly, "It's just... Prime?"
"Yes?" Optimus Prime asked.
"Me and Bumblebee... That is, Bumblebee and me," Barricade said slowly, "Were just discussing... whether I should stay here... and whether I'd get my own room if I did?" he asked.
"You know, you had your own room," Optimus Prime pointed out, his tone that of dry humour, "It was in the basement."
"I don't really class a cell as my own room," Barricade replied.
Optimus shook his head, "So, you're staying, are you Barricade?" he asked the Decepticon, "A Decepticon is staying with Autobots. Now I wonder why that could be," he gave a very pointed glare at Barricade, “Perhaps you don’t want to see your comrades?”
Barricade hesitated, then turned to look at Bumblebee, "You told him?!" he asked.
"Well, uh..." Bumblebee replied, "I knew I could trust him with knowing, and I was hoping he could help... why else do you think you were let out of your cell?" he finished, trying to put his hand in Barricade's lap.
Barricade pulled away quickly, "I know I didn’t tell you to keep it a secret, but you could at least have been discreet!" he shouted, suddenly furious.
"Barricade, I never meant it... I mean..." Bumblebee couldn't think for the stress, and looked at Optimus with a look of confusion.
Barricade clutched his head. He could hear a buzzing, ringing kind of noise in all of his sensors.
Optimus shook his head, "If you're going to be flying into sudden rages like this, Barricade, we'll have to take you back to the cells and lock you up again. I won't allow you to put Bumblebee in danger like this."
"Yes, Barricade," Bumblebee nodded in agreement, "I'm sure you wouldn't like to be locked up again... would you?"
Barricade looked up again, "I trusted you!" he raged at Bumblebee, "I thought Prime might pull something like this, but I trusted YOU!"
Bumblebee smiled, looking at Prime, "What do you think we should do with him? Take him back to the cells and fuck him, you and me?"
"Don't you DARE come any closer to me!" Barricade shouted at Bumblebee, and whipped around to face Optimus, who was approaching him cautiously from behind, "And YOU! If you try anything... I'll... I'll..." with a swift move, he grabbed the metal chair and swung it defensively towards the much larger Autobot, "I'll fight it! I KNEW there was some other reason for taking me out of that cell!"
Bumblebee tackled Barricade to the floor, knocking the chair out of his reach.
"Get OFF me you little brat!" Barricade raged at the Camerro, kicking at him. Optimus pinned him to the floor, holding his arms above his head, "IF YOU EVEN TRY WHAT THEY PULLED-" he screamed, starting to panic.
"Calm down, Barricade," Optimus Prime told him, "What's got into you?"
"What... what..." Barricade stopped struggling. The buzzing, ringing feeling was going away. Prime looked concerned. Bumblebee looked afraid. Barricade managed to look around the room from his position on the floor. The table and chair had been thrown around the room, and he felt like he had missed something, "What just happened?" he asked, his voice shaking.
"I think something just happened to you... Prime, we should take him to Ratchet..." Bumblebee said, resting a hand on Barricade, "Are you okay?"
"I... I just... you were saying... Barricade tried to take control of himself, "You were both saying... you were going to lock me up in the cells again... and... stuff..."
"We never said anything like that, Barricade. You must have been hallucinating," Bumblebee said, "We’d best take him to Ratchet, Prime. Now. What do you think?"
"But... but what happened?" Barricade asked.
Optimus looked down at Barricade, "You just clutched at your head, and then you started ranting at both of us and threatening us as if you couldn't hear what we were saying. Then you picked up that chair," he nodded at the chair, "And started swinging it at me to keep me back. We managed to pin you down, but I think you should definitely get yourself checked out by a medic."
Bumblebee smiled. "It's okay, Ratchet's a professional, he definitely won't hurt you, I promise for a fact. You can trust me, and though I know you two seem to have your differences..." he gave a quick grin at Prime, "I know you can trust Prime as well."
"Are you feeling a little calmer now, Barricade?" Optimus asked the Saleen.
"Yeah... just a little... shook up..." Barricade answered. He gave a sigh of relief as Optimus Prime released his arms. He hadn't just been shaken up - for a moment he'd been terrified, certain that the two mechs were going to rape him right here. But now everything seemed to be back to normal as he sat up again.
"How're you feeling? Dizzy or just plain shocked?" Bumblebee asked, resting a hand on Barricade's arm.
"I'm fine," Barricade answered, "Let's just go see your medic and get it over with, huh?" he suggested. Was there something wrong with his circuits? If Bumblebee and Prime could be relied on - and considering the blank in his memory, they had to be - he'd started having an audial hallucination and freaked out.
"Sure." Bumblebee smiled and took Barricade's hand. "Prime, can you look after us as we go to Ratchet? He might get another hallucination."
"Absolutely," Prime said, "I'll come with you both to the med-lab."
Barricade stood up, Bumblebee to one side, Prime on the other, and they walked out of Bumblebee's room and, Barricade assumed, to the Autobot's med-lab.
Soon they reached the medlab, with Optimus opening the door for the two to allow him and Barricade inside. Ratchet looked at the two mechs entering hand in hand, "Another client?" he asked, half-joking.
"This one's having hallucinations." Bumblebee stated, holding Barricade's hand lovingly. "Is there anything you can do?"
"Hallucinations?" Ratchet looked at the Decepticon, and then at the way Bumblebee was holding his hand, "Could you sit down on the table please, young mech?" he asked Barricade. The Saleen sat down on the table quietly, "What kind of hallucinations?" he asked.
Barricade realised the medic was talking to him, "Well, uh," he swallowed, "I was in Bumblebee's room, with Prime right there, and we were talking, and suddenly I got this buzzing feeling in my head, and then Prime was telling me I had to go back to the cells, and Bumblebee was... saying... that they should both... fuck me right there. I... I just panicked." Ratchet raised a brow, and Barricade continued hastily, "It's no big deal; it's never happened before and it won't again, I know it."
Bumblebee blushed, "It was that bad?" he asked, trembling as he sat down next to Barricade.
As Barricade hung his head, Ratchet frowned. He'd seen this behaviour before. The look on the face; self hatred. Fear, anger and guilt all clouding the mind, "Barricade," he said quietly, "Has anybody ever attacked you in a sexual way?" Barricade nodded slightly, and Ratchet sighed, "Okay, Barricade," he said, "I'm going to perform a full systems scan on your CPU. Bumblebee, you'll have to get off that table; he needs to lie down."
Barricade spoke up, "But I told you," he insisted, "It's no big deal. It's never happened before!"
"Then I need to find out what the problem is, why it's happening now, whether it will get worse and how to repair it," Ratchet replied.
“Okay. Barricade, he won't hurt you, I promise." Bumblebee smiled, kissing the Decepticon on the cheek reassuringly. Ratchet did give him an odd look for doing so but Bumblebee ignored him.
Barricade lay down on the table quietly, a nervous look on his face. Ratchet pulled out a scanner, and waved it slowly over his head. After a matter of seconds, a little red light came on blinking, "Looks like you've got a few STVs," he said calmly.
"No!" Barricade started to sit up, "That's impossible! I kept my firewall up every time! I wouldn't let them-"
"Every time?" Ratchet asked, "Them?"
Bumblebee looked up. "I don't think he wants to tell you..." he said, holding Barricade's hand tightly. "These STVs... they're nothing serious, right?
"I'm going to check now," Ratchet answered, "It's possible they're what caused the hallucination. If not, they still have to be cleaned out of his system. Barricade, remain where you are."
"I can't believe... I KNOW I kept my firewall up!" Barricade shouted, "How could this happen?"
"Sometimes, if only one mech's got their firewall up, some files and viruses can get through," Ratchet answered, plugging in a scanner, "It's the reason why you should both of you keep your firewalls up, unless you know each other very well. Now, this may sting." He pressed a button.
Barricade gave a prolonged shriek as the anti-virus began to scan his systems. It was in-depth and the Saleen twitched erratically for several seconds as the anti-virus swept through his files. Eventually though, he settled down and lay trembling slightly.
"How did it feel?" Bumblebee asked, blushing slightly. He kissed Barricade on the forehead in an attempt to relax the poor mech.
"Stings," Barricade muttered, unwilling to admit that it hurt. Shivering, he tried to keep still on the table.
"Ratchet... Do I have to...?" Bumblebee asked, hesitantly. He could tell that the Decepticon hurt a damn lot more than that. If he could avoid going through it, then he would.
Ratchet was watching a computer screen as a list of viruses - many different types - started to come up. He turned, "These viruses all seem to be transmitted by merging. You shouldn't need a scan unless you've been doing something foolish, Bumblebee," he paused, glaring a little, "You haven't been doing anything foolish, have you Bumblebee?" he asked.
"Well..." Bumblebee blushed, looking to Barricade with a 'what do I say?' face. Optimus folded his arms and palmed his face as the answer was pretty obvious.
Barricade, still shivering, shrugged as if he didn't care what Bumblebee said right now, "Have I got any viruses, medic?" he asked.
Ratchet looked at the screen again, "Lots," he answered, "And some malicious code too."
Barricade groaned, "So what's it doing to me right now?" he asked.
"Well," Ratchet looked hard at Bumblebee, "A number of these things are just filling up your RAM, making it hard to think straight. Some of them appear to be tampering with your emotions, forcing you to feel angry or sad or guilty or fearful... and others seem to be forcing you to have nightmares every time you recharge. There's nothing specific in there that would cause a hallucination, but working together in your head, those viruses are making it much harder for you to get over the attacks made on you," he finished, "I'm not surprised you had a hallucination."
"So... basically, I really am going crazy, and it's not just a virus," Barricade said unhappily.
"Don't worry Barricade... you're not dirty..." Bumblebee told him. "Just ‘cause those bastards raped you doesn't make you dirty... and you're not crazy..."
"I'm going to clear out those viruses," Ratchet told them both, "With any luck, we should get rid of the hallucinations. But if you have any more, Barricade, come and see me. You could hurt somebody in this base - or yourself."
"Go right ahead," Barricade muttered, still looking depressed. While Ratchet hooked up the anti-virus, he quietly put his hand on Bumblebee's, "Thanks," he muttered.
Bumblebee smiled. "You don't have to thank me for saying what I know is true." He leant down and kissed Barricade on the lips.
Both Optimus and Ratchet were staring at them now, "Bumblebee, have you done anything foolish with Barricade?" Ratchet asked him again.
Bumblebee blushed, pulling away and blushing, glancing at Ratchet, and then at Barricade, "Erm... Well..."
"Very well," Ratchet sighed, "Please come to see me tomorrow for a checkup... and a little talk." He plugged in the machine, and Barricade gave a soft gasp as the viruses, some of which had been there for quite some time, were cleaned out of his head.
"I don't... I mean... I did... but..." Bumblebee started to stutter, then turned to Optimus, a nervous, blushing face painted on him as he looked up at the Autobot leader.
Optimus Prime just smiled slightly, shaking his head, "I'd advise you did that, Bumblebee," he told the young mech, "Oh, and don't merge with anybody until you're declared clean."
Barricade, meanwhile, was sitting up again. His head felt a lot clearer, and he felt a little better. He didn't know about the nightmares yet, but he'd find out. It was good to know that he'd have less of them... well, he hoped. He looked up at Prime, "So, I guess what you're saying is... we shouldn't have been doing that?" he asked.
"Not exactly," Prime replied, "But I do think Bumblebee has been a little impulsive."
Bumblebee blushed and looked at his own feet in embarrassment. "But... this is real... I really do LOVE Barricade..."
Now Barricade was flushing too, and standing up, rubbing his head, "Bumblebee," he said uncertainly, "I... I know that, but... I'm not really sure what love is," he caught Ratchet's expression, "Well I am a Decepticon. Well I guess I'm a Decepticon..." he stopped again and suddenly dragged his claws through the Decepticon logo on his shoulder.
Bumblebee looked back and gasped, running up to him and pulling his arm. "Don't do that!"
"I'm TRYING to get rid of the Decepticon symbol," Barricade scowled, "Like you wanted?" he shrugged, "No... I just want to lie down." Rubbing the back of his neck, he turned away from Bumblebee and left the med-bay, heading back towards the yellow mech's room.
