No Lies

(Possible Trigger Warning Ahead)

Double D didn’t know if it was possible for your heart to stop beating or for you to die of shock, but if it was possible; he would consider himself deceased. Edd’s eyes widened as Kevin studied him, his breath suddenly quickening as he started to hyperventilate.
Kevin’s own eyes widened as he realized what happened “Oh shit! D? Are you alright?”
Double D had his head down and his eyes squeezed shut as he continued to hyperventilate “N-No!” He gasped out then quickly got off the bed, sat against a wall and buried his head between his knees as he tried to stop hyperventilating.
Kevin jumped off the bed and knelt down in front of him “Dude, i-is there anything I can do?”
DD shook his head and hugged his legs. He froze and opened his eyes as he suddenly felt arms around him. “K-Kevin?”
“Sh. Breath.” Edd heard Kevin murmur softly.
Double D was still shaking from the oncoming panic attack but he shut his eyes and took deep shuddering breaths. As he took each each breath, he heard Kevin murmuring softly in his ear to breath and calm down. Strangely enough, it actually helped him stop freaking out as bad. He was still having a slight anxiety attack but it was on a minimal scale to where he was just nervous.
Edd felt the jock rub his back then say “Better?”
DD nodded stiffly “I-I guess…”
Kevin chuckled in his ear then said “I’ll take that as a yes by the way.” Double D felt himself melt into a puddle at the close proximity chuckle he heard Kevin do in his ear. Kevin leaned back a bit but didn’t cease his contract “You sure you’re okay now?”
Edd laughed nervously “Honestly? Not at all.” he gulped thickly “Uh, c-could you do me a f-favor?”
Kevin nodded “Sure, what?”
DD squirmed where he was sitting “Uh, c-can you fetch m-my anxiety med-dication from the ca-cabinet in m-my bathroom?” he stuttered.
Kevin looked at Edd with concern over the fact the teen had anxiety medication at his age but nodded “Alright.” he stood up then went into the bathroom. He opened the nearby cabinet and was taken back by how many bottles there were. Keeping it in mind as a question for later, he rummaged around and searched for something that would help with anxiety. “Ah, here.” he pulled out the bottle, found a cup and filled it with water then went back out to where Edd was still huddled up against the wall. He knelt down and held out the cup then opened the bottle “How many you need?”
Edd took the cup shakily “Uh, two…. Make that three…” he held out his hand as Kevin put three pills in his hand “Th-Thanks…” He titled his head back, took a mouthful of water then popped in the pills one gulp at a time. He drank down the rest of the water then put it down on the floor next to him “A-Again, tha-thank you…” DD’s eyes didn’t look up to look at the jock the entire time.
Kevin sat back on his heels as he closed the pill bottle and put it aside. He watched Edd for a moment, watching the teen’s expression and how he was still fidgeting. “You really do like me? Don’t you?” Without saying anything or looking at him, Edd slowly nodded. Kevin lowered himself and crossed his legs then rubbed the back of his neck “Huh.”
Edd finally looked up “Wh-What?” He felt his throat tighten and eyes prickle with unshed tears as he predicted the oncoming refusal of his affection.
Kevin chuckled “I honestly didn’t see that coming.” he smiled crookedly as he looked down at his lap and shook his head “I mean, I kinda saw the you being gay part, but not that you liked me. I kinda thought you were gonna go after Rolf or some shit.” Edd stared at Kevin for a few seconds then suddenly burst out laughing. Kevin jolted in surprise as the previously panicking teen was laughing so hard he was clutching his sides and crying. Kevin blinked “Um, Double D?”
Edd wiped the tears from his eyes and cheek s as he calmed himself down but was still giggling. He sniffed and let out one last giggle before looking up at Kevin “Rolf? Oh Heaven’s no! Do not get me wrong, he is a great companion, but I could not see him and I engaging in a romantic relationship.”
Kevin half smiled “And you can see you and me doing that?”
Edd blushed and wiped his face with the back of his hand “That… That is a um… difficult question…”
Kevin scooted closer “Not really if you think about it.” he gripped his own knees then tapped them “I’ve never actually thought about any guys like how you probably do. So I um…” he leaned back a bit and huffed “Damn, I’m not good with new shit…” he shook his head then looked back at DD.
Edd chuckled “I guess we have that in common then. I have never engaged in a homosexual relationship before.”
Kevin smirked “And you want to get into a gay relationship with the straightest looking dude at Peach Creek High?”
Kevin watched in amusement as DD’s face turned red “U-Uh… W-When you put it th-that way…” he bit his lower lip then said “I-If you do not wish to become involved with me... I… will understand...”
Kevin watched as Edd’s face fell after he said the last words. From what Kevin could tell, the teen wouldn’t be okay if he did refuse him. Kevin rubbed his face then kept a hand over his eyes “Look, obviously this is something new for me. I think this is... something I’d need time to think about.” he put his hand down and shrugged “Just so we’re clear, it’s not a yes, but it’s not a no.”
Edd stared at Kevin in disbelief at what he was hearing. Did Kevin, the most popular kid in Peach Creek High, just say he’d think about going out with him? When what the jock said finally caught up with his stunned brain, he jumped forwards and hugged him “Kevin! Thank you!” To his shock, instead of returning the hug or being awkward about the contact, the jock let out a gasp of pain and shuddered as he tensed up. Edd immediately let go and put his hands on Kevin’s shoulders “Kevin? Please don’t lie to me. What happened to your back? I’ve been noticing something about you all day, even the other students noticed your pain Kevin.”
Kevin looked away, his face read the expression of shame and pain. “Don’t…. Don’t tell anyone…” He removed Edd’s hands from his shoulders then turned around and kept in a sitting position. Kevin pulled off his jacket then reached down to his shirt hem and slowly pulled off his shirt and put it in his lap. He winced when he heard Edd’s breath hitch then heard his whisper.
“Oh my God…” Edd’s eyes were wider that he thought possible as he stared at the welts and bruises covering his back. They were all obviously fresh since he remembered not seeing any wounds on his back when he took off his shirt to clean off the oil. “What…?”
Kevin rubbed the shirt in his hands nervously “H-He usually only marks me on my legs, feet or hands… But when I got back from the party… He… smelled drunker than usual so must have forgotten he promised not to hurt my back or chest…”
“He…?” Edd hovered a hand over the welts “Your Dad did this… didn’t he?” He put his hand down then he saw Kevin nod slowly. “My God Kevin…” DD clenched his fists “M-May I examine them?”
Kevin gripped his shirt tighter “Yeah.” Kevin flinched when he felt soft, hands lightly touch one of the raised welts.
“Am I hurting you?” Edd asked concernedly.
Kevin shrugged “They always hurt, no different from when I had the shirt on.” Kevin heard a sound then saw that Edd had gotten up, grabbed his medical kit then sat back down behind him.
“Whether you like it or not, I am going to attend to these wounds. As someone with medical knowledge I cannot let someone who is injured out of my sight without being tended to.” he lightly touched a patch of skin that wasn’t marred by bruises or welts “As someone who deeply c-cares for you… I definitely cannot let this go unattended.”
Kevin felt something in his chest tighten at the other teen’s words “Oh. O-Okay…” he wasn’t sure what to say to that.
Edd got out his supplies then grimaced “If you thought your eye hurt… you might want to grip something… Applying the disinfectant now, try to stay still.”
Kevin chuckled “I doubt it could be that ba- OW! JESUS CHRIST!” Kevin hissed and hunched over as he felt the stinging and cool liquid hit his back “Mother fucking Christ!”
Edd chuckled as he applied the disinfectant “Told you.” DD half smiled as Kevin grumbled to himself. “I’ll put a gauze over these. Hold on.” he pulled out the rolls of gauze and started to cut them to size “I’m going to apply the gauze now, hold still again. This shouldn’t hurt that much.”
Kevin snorted “Yeah yeah, just get this over with.”
Double D giggled “Alright Kevin.” He got the strips set out then started to carefully apply them to the worst of the wounds first. When he finished applying the gauze strips, he let his hand gently graze over Kevin’s back “You need to tell the authorities Kevin.”
Kevin sighed heavily, Edd felt the teen’s back move with the large breath he took “I know. But… I can’t.” he shook his head “He’s the only family I got left. If he was taken away I’d get sent to the orphanage or some shit.” he clenched his fists and Edd felt his muscles tense up under his hand “When I’m eighteen, I’m leaving that shithole so fast. I’m leaving that house even if I have to beat the shit out of that bastard myself.” For some reason, he felt himself start to relax as Double D’s hand gently stroked his back.
“May I inquire to what happened to your mother?” Edd asked hesitantly.
Kevin looked down sadly “Died givin birth to my little sis. They both didn’t make it...”
Edd felt his heart break a bit at Kevin’s confession “Oh… My sympathies Kevin...”
The jock shrugged “What happened happened, can’t let myself mope about it all the time.” he glanced back at Edd “You done back there?”
Edd blinked then removed his hand from Kevin’s back “Oh, yes. I am.” Kevin put his shirt back on then turned around and rubbed his neck. DD watched his hand for a moment then remembered the finger marks he saw “He grabbed you there didn’t he? I saw the marks, they matched up to make fingerprints.”
Kevin stopped touching his neck then nodded “Yeah.”
Double D suddenly sniffed as tears started to slowly drip from his eyes “It’s my fault… it’s it?”
Kevin’s brow furrowed “What do you mean by that?”
DD sniffed again “I-I invited you to the party… If I hadn’t…. You w-wouldn’t be like this…”
Kevin shook his head and put a hand on Edd’s left shoulder “Listen, he’s been a shitty Dad ever since Mum’s died. It was only a matter of time he got drunk enough or didn’t care enough to hurt me like that.” he gripped DD’s shoulder firmly “It’s-not-your-fault. You hear me? Don’t you dare blame yourself for that bastard’s actions.”
Edd rubbed his eyes, sniffed then nodded “Okay…” he looked over at his clock then yelped “Oh my! It’s Ten Nineteen!”
Kevin looked over and sat back “Huh, so it is.” he looked back at Double D “Mind if I crash here tonight? Dad’s out binge drinking with his buddies like he normally does and won’t be back until afternoon tomorrow.”
Edd blushed “Um, alright. I believe I have a blow up bed or something in the hall closet.”
Kevin blinked “Oh, I meant like, if it’s okay with your folks. I don’t wanna intrude or somethin.”
Double D chuckled as he stood up “They’re out of country right now on a business trip. It’s fine.”
Kevin stood up as well “Really? How long have they been gone?”
DD titled his head “Um... “ he started to count in his head “This’ll be closing in on week two I believe.” he shrugged “They’re usually gone for long periods of time for work but they’ve been having issues over in Europe. Sounds like political problems to me. And my Mother caught some sort of virus so they can’t leave country anyway.”
Kevin rubbed his neck “Oh, didn’t know that. Sounds lonely.”
Double D shrugged again “I guess. You kind of get used to it. I drown out the silence with music. Probably why I like to listen to louder music nowadays.”
Kevin nodded “I get that.”
Edd then left the room and went digging through his closet. He didn’t find the blowup bed but found a sleeping bag. He brought it back to his room and saw Kevin leaning over and looking at his ant farm. “Um, I got this?”
Kevin straightened back up “Oh, okay. Thanks.” he walked over and took it from the teen then started to set it up.
Double D looked down at his clothes then went through his drawers and pulled out a pair of pajama bottoms and a shirt then turned around. “Would these fi- Oh my word...” DD felt his knees go weak when he saw Kevin taking off his shirt then pants. He then realized that Kevin was one of those teens that probably only slept in their underwear or completely nude.
Kevin tossed his clothes into the nearby chair then pointed his thumb to the bathroom “I can use your bathroom right?”
Edd blinked, mildly stunned and blushing madly “Oh, um, yes of course.” Kevin then left the room and closed the bathroom door. Double D rubbed his face then mumbled “What did I just get myself into?” He sighed then decided to get dressed whilst he had the privacy.
Kevin poked his head out the door “Hey dweeb, you got a…” He trailed off when he saw Edd reaching over to pick up his pants, his night shirt already on. Kevin leaned against the doorframe and raised an eyebrow “Those are pretty short doncha think?”
Double D blushed heavily and quickly covered himself with his night pants. “P-Please turn away Kevin!”
Kevin chuckled and waved a hand as he turned around “Fine fine. I just came out askin if you had a spare toothbrush.”
Edd shakily pulled on his nightwear and said “Uh, l-left side drawer under the s-sink.”
Kevin gave him a thumbs up “Cool.” he went back inside and found the toothbrush and toothpaste then started to brush his teeth. Still brushing, he walked out again and picked up his phone then sat down on Edd’s bed and looked at his phone as he brushed.
Double D rolled his eyes then went into the bathroom and started to brush his own teeth. After both teens finished with their nightly hygiene matters, Edd turned off the light then slipped into his bed with a yawn.
“Wow…”
Double D crawled over to the edge of his bed to look down at Kevin, who was on his back with his hands behind his head. “I would answer with ‘what’ but I feel like I've used that word more times than I should today.” he said with a chuckle.
Kevin pointed upwards “Did you do all that?”
Edd looked up then smiled “Yes, I did.”
Kevin stared up in awe as he looked around the room. The entire room was covered in constellations that were previously invisible in the light. “That's really amazing D.” he pointed upwards “I mean, you got Orion, Gemini, Cancer, Aquarius, all of em! That really is something awesome. I love it.”
DD blushed “Oh, thank you. Took me a month to get it perfect.”
Kevin chuckled “Well worth it honestly. I'd love to have something like this in my room. A roof skylight would be better, but this is just as cool.”
Double D laid back into his bed and grinned up at the Pegasus constellation above his head “Yes, I guess it is, cool.” he curled onto his side towards the edge of the bed “Well, sweet dreams Kevin.” Kevin just grunted in response, probably still in awe at the constellations, Double D thought humorously.
Just when Double D was about to fully lose consciousness, he heard the sound of shuffling then light footsteps. He was about to turn to see what Kevin was doing but felt him lift the sheets then get into bed with him, curl up behind him and hug him. Double D swore his heart stopped beating for a moment before he found his voice “K...Kevin? Wh-What are you d-doing?”
Edd felt Kevin shrug “Never tried cuddling with a guy. Thought it would help my decision later on if I actually got a feel of what it would be like. To be with you I mean.”
DD was blushing head to toe at this point because he felt Kevin’s arms wrapped around him and his back pressed against Kevin’s front. “O-Okay…”
Kevin looked down at DD then said “You wear your hat to bed?”
Double D blinked “Um, yes? Well, not normally… Uh, can we not talk about my hat?”
Kevin chuckled “Okay. G’night Dork.”
Edd smiled at the word that's practically became one of his many nicknames. “Good night Kevin.” He hesitated for a moment, then put his hand on Kevin’s arm before closing his eyes.
