The Next Day:
Adriana felt something cool and smooth run along her forehead, then down her cheek to trace her lips and brush against her neck. She let out a sigh through her nose, feeling soothed by whatever was touching her. After a few moments, she cracked open her eyelids and found herself in a foreign room, laying on a soft bed with black sheets.
Her breath hitched as memories from the previous evening came flooding back to her. She was in Pitch's room! She blushed a deep red & buried her face into her pillow as she recalled the things he had done to her and her enthusiastic response. But that didn't help, as the pillow was Pitch's and therefore, covered in his manly scent! She breathed in deeply to savor it.
"I know you're awake." An all too familiar and pleased sounding voice spoke from within the darkness of the room. She looked up to see two glowing yellow eyes staring back at her and felt yet another blush come over her as she remembered looking deep into those eyes while he......ugh! Get your mind out of the gutter! She thought, disgusted with herself. Adriana sat up and immediately had to clutch the sheet to her chest to cover her still mostly naked form.
Pitch let out a deep chuckle, amused that she could possibly be embarrassed now when she had been writhing beneath him last night, so beautifully begging for more. As he rose from the nearby wing backed chair where he had been sitting & approached her, she slid backwards, nervously. He smirked as the closer he came, the more she scooted herself back until she was pressed up against the headboard with no where else to run.
"Don't be nervous." He soothed, even as her fear filled him with power.
"Where are my clothes?" She asked, looking around. She could've sworn they had ended up on the floor last night yet she didn't see them anywhere.
"Once they are removed, they vanish and a new set of clothing appears in your wardrobe." He answered, his lip curling in amusement.
"So I have to walk back to my room naked?!" She gasped, a note of panic in her voice.
"Don't be silly." And with that, he lifted her, sheet and all, into his arms and headed out the door with her.
Adriana started rambling, nervously. "Um.. it's okay, you don't have to carry me, I can walk on my own and I'm sure...."
"Oh, but I want to carry you." He said with a smirk, enjoying her discomfort. "I enjoy having you in my arms."
Adriana looked extremely uncomfortable at this. Glancing up at him from under her lashes, she saw his smirk and realized that Pitch knew exactly how uneasy he was making her and he was doing it on purpose!
"No, really, it's not necessary." She said more firmly.
"I insist."
"Pitch, put me down."
"No."
He laughed at the annoyed look on her face and couldn't stop himself from kissing her, causing her expression to go from annoyed to surprised, then confused, making him laugh again. "Pitch-" she started.
"Here we are." Pitch interrupted her train of thought as they reached her bedroom door. He had opted to walk rather than transport them via shadows so that he could hold her longer. "Now, that wasn't so bad, was it?" He asked as he set her down gently. Already he missed the feel of her in his arms.
She rolled her eyes as she turned to open the door, the sheet wrapped around her protectively and shielding her delicious body from his view. "When you are ready," he commanded, "join me in the main hall." With that, he vanished into the darkness.
Adriana was confused & somewhat wary, but mostly curious. She quickly rushed through getting cleaned up & dressed. Today, Pitch had provided her with another dress. It was a deep purple color that hugged her hips & flowed down to her ankles beautifully. She hurriedly consumed the breakfast the Night Mares had conjured for her & as she headed towards the main hall, she wondered what sort of mischief Pitch was up to now.
She entered the main hall, glancing warily around but the room was seemingly empty except for the cages hanging from the ceiling & the globe with all it's twinkling lights. A shuffling sound and movement, caught just out of the corner of her eye, caused her to spin around. "Pitch?" She received no response and backed up, nervously, until her back pressed against the wall.
"Adriana." A familiar voice whispered, causing her body to tense. A startled gasp escaped her when she saw his tall, lithe figure emerging from the shadows.
Pitch was suddenly so close, Adriana could feel the heat coming off him. His arms reached out and anchored on the wall on either side of her, trapping her with his body. Surrounding her. She swallowed. She shivered. She licked her lips and perhaps....arched her back ever so slightly. Tendrils of desire unfurled, wrapping and winding around her. Her defenses were down and she didn't know whether it was because she'd been through so much emotional turmoil over the past few days or if, she shuddered...she just actually found Pitch that attractive. He was dark and dangerous. Forbidding. And he wanted her.
Reaching out, he tucked a stray tendril of dark hair gently behind her ear; his fingers lingered at the rise of her cheek, caressing the skin there. Using the tip of his finger, he tilted her face until their gazes locked. "My beautiful Adriana." Leaning down, he placed a tender kiss upon her lips. He didn't deepen the kiss, however, and lingered only for a moment. Just as she was starting to get into it.
Suddenly, one of his Night Mares came galloping up to them, neighing and whinnying agitatedly. "What is it?" Pitch asked it, irritably, annoyed by the interruption. The black sand horse gave a series of whinnies & nickers. The look of irritation on his face turned to one of anger. "Is that so?"
"What's wrong?" Adriana asked, concerned.
"Forgive me, my dear," Pitch replied, turning back to her "but it seems we will have to continue this another time. There's a certain mischievous winter spirit who needs to be taught a lesson." With that, he hopped on the horse's back & with an apologetic look at her, flew into the darkness, leaving Adriana wondering what exactly it was that they would be continuing later.
'Oh, well,' she thought, 'might as well explore a little. Maybe I can find the library again. I'm sure it was close by. If I get lost, I can just call a Night Mare to help me.'
For hours she wandered the labyrinth that was Pitch's home. Opening all the doors she passed along the way, she did find the library Pitch had brought her to that first night. She grabbed the book he had tried to offer her that evening, intending to find her room later and read it there. During her exploration, she also came upon a music room with a grand black piano as it's centerpiece. She wondered if Pitch would mind if she played it sometime. The next room she came upon was Pitch's bedroom (that one gave her shudders of pleasure as she remembered what had transpired there). She took notice that the tunnels and corridors were constantly changing. As though they were alive. One day a bridge or set of stairs would be there. The next they would be gone, or leading in a different direction than the previous day. As she continued walking, she noticed the darkness ebbing more and more until, suddenly, she noticed light flooding the tunnel in front of her from above.
'Is that. . . . ? It couldn't be. Could it?' She hardly dared to imagine. 'The exit!' She thought, excitedly. It was the exit! Looking up, she recognized the rotten wooden bed frame and could clearly see the sky beyond. 'I can't believe I found it again! And completely by accident this time! I could go home!'
As soon as the thought crossed her mind, she thought dejectedly, 'He'll only come after me again and drag me back here. And there's no where I can hide from him. Besides, he's not so bad.' She blushed as she thought of his gentle caresses and tender kisses. 'Maybe staying here and being his queen wouldn't be so bad, either.'
But then she thought of her friends and family. She thought of her band. How many gigs had she missed? Were they out looking for her even now? They must be so worried. She thought of her career, her friends in the band. They were like family to her! The album they were so close to finishing wasn't just her dream, it was theirs, too. She missed her cozy little apartment she had worked so hard for. But most of all, she missed her loved ones. Her sister, especially.
With that thought in mind, she climbed up and out of the hole.
Pitch:
"Frost!" Pitch yelled as soon as he found the winter spirit, Jack Frost, snooping around far too close to his lair as was comfortable.
"We know you're keeping a young woman prisoner, Pitch!" Jack shouted back. "Let her go!"
"I take it little Ariel came crying to the Guardians for help? Little brat. Someone should teach her to keep her mouth shut."
Suddenly, North, Bunny, Tooth and Sandy appeared, surrounding Pitch.
"We know what you are being up to, Pitch." Said North in his strong, yet heavily accented, voice. "You will not be getting away with it. Give us girl, now."
"Never." Pitch spat in a deadly tone.
"Struth, mate, what would you be needin with a Sheila anyway?" Asked Bunny, incredulous.
"Just let her go, Pitch. Don't you care even a little about how scared and alone she must feel?" Asked Tooth, as she flitted around like a hummingbird. "How unhappy she must be?"
Sandman nodded in agreement with Tooth's sentiment. Pictures forming above his head in golden sand.
"He's the Boogeyman," Jack said with derision. "He doesn't care about anyone or anything. And I'm sure he relishes her fear of him! I'd bet on it.'
Pitch smirked at the Guardians. Adriana's fear had made him more powerful. However, he was not at all sure that he was powerful enough yet to take on all the Guardians at once. But he refused to let them take Adriana away from him! A painful ache pierced his chest just thinking about losing her. He couldn't lose her! With that thought in mind, he called forth his Night Mares and gave the signal for them to attack.
The Guardians wielded their weapons and prepared to fight.
