Siblings
Our brothers and sisters are there with us from the dawn of our personal stories to the inevitable dusk. - Susan Scarf Merrell"A visit from my son and my brother in the same week my luck must be changing.""I think it's time for me and you to have tea." Iroh pushed in a cart with tea and fruit pies. He remembered his brother was partial to cherry fruit pies a child. "I brought your favorite, dragon fruit white tea." Iroh filled his brother's cup."Tea and pies, you must want something really bad." Ozai took a sip. It had been years since he had a decent cup of tea. He savored the flavor without showing how much he enjoyed it."I hope it is to your liking"."Come now brother, you don't care if I enjoyed your tea." He took a bite of the fruit pie. The warm cherry filling brought back fond memories. "We both know you want something.""It's about your children. They're fighting.""So." There was no emotion on Ozai's face. "Their fighting may lead to irreparable damage. They were so close to being at peace with themselves and each other. It would be a shame for them to lose it all now. Zuko needs Azula to take hold of Byakurai. He will be able to open the Arc of the Avatar with her. The arc is real, our father was right it does exist.""So this is about his "betterment" of the Fire Nation. He must be desperate to send you.""Zuko does not know I am here.""I, see. I will make sure Azula helps Zuko." He started on his second cup of tea. "I only want what's best for the Fire Nation."=========è"We need to convince Azula to help Zuko.""How are we supposed to do that, Aang? Azula is well, Azula.""Sokka is right, if she doesn't want to help Zuko she won't help him.""Toph, last night Azula stepped in and protected Zuko.""Probably, because she wants him to live and be miserable after he gives up being fire lord.""Sokka, Azula doesn't know that part.""How do you know Katara? " Sokka lowered his voice. "Azula may have spies all around.""Last night we all saw how much Azula has changed. She saved Zuko. She hasn't called anyone a peasant or anything else degrading.""Yeah, that's because she wants her party. That's it, that's why she saved Zuko it's about her party. Next time Miso and Zuko fight Zuko is going to be on his own, I tellya."Katara gently shook her head at Sokka's comment. "I agree with Aang. He's good at reading people." Katara gave Aang a quick kiss on the cheek."So what's your big plan Twinkle Toes?""Toph, we're going to find Azula, and talk to her.""Fine, lets go get this over with.""Great, to the Kuai ball ring." Aang pointed south.Aang and the others found Azula in the middle of an impromptu session with Ty Lee and Miso. Miso tried to encourage communication between Ty Lee and Azula whenever he had the chance. Today he was using Kuai ball to get the girls to interact with each other. They were working together to teach Miso how to improve his game."Azula, we need to talk to you". Aang smiled."I am busy.""Too busy or too afraid to accept our Kuai ball challenge."Katara pulled her brother to the side. "Sokka, what are you doing?""I'm challenging her. We'll get her off guard while playing. You and Aang can do your "talk" with her during the game." Sokka walked back over. He puffed out his chest. "So what's it going to be Azula?""We'll play.""Azula, we only have three players.""Zuko, is playing, Ty Lee, we have four."The others looked at her with a nervous look until Toph said, "She's right Zuko is coming this way."Zuko arrived a few minutes later. The first thing he noticed was what Azula was wearing or more importantly what she wasn't wearing. Azula ditched the outfits he had made for her. She had on one of her beach outfits. Zuko was both pleased and upset about her attire. A scowl formed on his face."I've been waiting for you, Zuko."Azula's words caught Zuko off guard. It took him a moment to think of what to say. "Why?" His eyes narrowed. "To play Kuai ball of course.""Azula, I don't have time"."Zuko, make the time. You haven't made time for me in a long time." She looked at him with melancholy filled eyes. "Plus, if we work together we'll win easily. Show me how well we can work together.""Fine." Zuko sighed he hated how hard it was for him to say "no" to her. "Excuse me Fire Lord Zuko." Miso bowed before Zuko. "I want to apologize for my anger getting the best of me last night. When I battle my focus changes. In a way I become a different person. I could’ve really hurt“."Enough talk Miso, it's time to start." Azula turned to Sokka and the others. She gave them a menacing smile.Sokka’s plan backfired. Azula and Zuko took Kuai ball seriously. They work well together. Plus, Miso was a much better player than he led Ty Lee and Azula to believe. The game was over in less than 15 minutes. Team Sokka only scored two points. Sokka hated losing. Especially, to Azula her victory face was kind of condescending and terrifying. He recruited Suki when she stopped by to see if he wanted to go to lunch. He focused only winning. He didn't notice Katara's huff after Suki replaced her. Sokka challenged Azula to another game.It took awhile but Sokka's team finally found their groove. They scored two points in a row. They were only down by two points. Azula placed her hand on Zuko's shoulder. Zuko and Azula stared intensely into each other’s eyes. She smirked. He nodded. The siblings took their game up notch. Azula and Zuko seemed move in perfect harmony. Their teamwork was undeniable. Azula and Zuko used their favorite move, where Azula would run up Zuko's back to gain left. She scored. She used his knee as step in the following play. Team Azula was now up by four.
Sokka devised a plan to get them off balance. He knew Azula used Zuko's body as springboard. He waited until Azula would be in front of Zuko for his big move. Sokka made the call Suki ran up his back. She kicked the ball at Ty Lee who missed.
Sokka and the others celebrated. They were back on the board. Team Azula was still wining by three points. Ty Lee expressed how sorry she was. Zuko tried to comfort her by saying it was okay. Miso patted her on the back. Azula's focus was on Team Sokka. She yelled, “Get ready".Suki hit the ball. The ball went high in the sky. Zuko came up behind Azula and tossed her into the air. She was able to strike the ball in mid air. She scored. Team Azula won again.Miso was amazed at how well Azula and Zuko play together. He thought it was interesting that Azula and Zuko played so perfectly together even though they barely spoke. Ty Lee informed Miso that it's always been that way between them. When they team up they're unstoppable.Sokka challenged Azula to another game but she turned him down because she had an appointment.||||||))))))))))))))))))||||||||||"Azula, I am glad you decided to come.""Dad, you said it was important.""Yes, I need you to do something for me." Ozai smirked. "I need you to get Byakurai for your brother.""I am surprised you want to help Zuko.""This isn't about Zuko. This is about you. Azula you conquered Ba Sing Se, a feat even my tea crazy brother couldn't do. The people still admire you for that. The Earth Kingdom still fears you because of that feat. If opening the Arc of the Avatar works for the betterment of the Fire Nation the people will adore you for helping Zuko. This is a chance for you to win over the nation once more. When you return to your rightful place in the palace people will remember your feats. They will see you as a conqueror, someone who always wants what is best for the Fire Nation. They will come to see what I already see. You are what is best for the Fire Nation.""I know.""Then you know what you have to do.""Of course I just wanted to make Zuko sweat it out for little while. You should've seen the panic on his face when I told him no."A great laughter erupted from Ozai's stomach.|||||||||||-}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}After Azula left Ozai she avoided Aang and the others. She steered clear of Miso. She had to go somewhere secret, and she had to go alone. Azula knew almost as much about the palace as Iroh did. She'd explore the palace alone while Ursa and Zuko spent time together and Ozai was busy with is duties. Today she travelled down a hall she sworn she'd never go down again. She swiftly moved down the same winding stairway and maze of halls Iroh led Zuko and the others down. Her fingers griped the old cast iron handle. She hesitated for a moment before opening the door. Byakurai shined like the moon in the dark room. Azula stepped into the room and the pearl lit up the entire room. Azula slowly reached for the pearl. The pearl flew into Azula's hand.Byakurai did not burn or hurt her in anyway. It felt warm in her hand. It made her feel warm all over. It released positive energy. Byakurai's mark returned on the palm of her hand. The pearl gave her feeling she hadn't felt in a long time. It made her feel like she did her first trip to Amber Island with her family. She and Zuko played all day. Her family had dinner on the beach. Her mother and father told them stories until she and Zuko fell asleep. For a moment Azula believed she even heard the ocean. It was one of her favorite memories as a child. She placed the pearl back. The mark on her hand faded. Her memory remained. Byakurai stopped glowing once Azula opened the door.Azula ended up at another door after leaving Byakurai. She slowly opened the door. The light from the hall fell on Zuko. He didn't look peaceful. Even in his sleep Zuko looked like he was struggling. She wondered if it was because of her. Opening the Arc of the Avatar was extremely important. Azula knew there was a more important reason behind Zuko's request. It was not just about the Fire Nation. Getting Byakurai was to help Zuko. She wished he'd tell her that reason. Of course she understood why he didn't. Her eyes moved the scar on his abdomen. A smile cracked her face. That scar was her mark on him. It was considerably more private than the scar given to him by their father. She took a step into the room. Zuko jumped out of bed. He was on guard. His eyes finally focused fully. "Aaazula", he paused for moment he wanted to make sure he wasn't dreaming, "What are you doing here? I thought you were an assassin.""Really, Zuzu if I'd been an assassin you'd be dead." She moved a little closer. "You should have realized I was here before I even opened your door. You're getting rusty.""No, I just took something to make help me sle-. If your not here for an assassination attempt, why are you in my room?""I wanted to talk to you," she closed the bedroom door, "in private."Zuko quickly lit all the lanterns in his room. "What do you want to talk about?""Zuko, you look nervous. Are you worried I am here to challenge you to an Agni Kai?" She moved a little closer to him. "We both know you'd lose. Zuko you will never beat me on you own." Her fingertips traced the scar she'd given him. He jumped and she smirked."Azula, tonight is not the night your games." Zuko lay in his bed. "I'm tired." He turned away. "We'll talk in the morning."Azula spun around on one of the Zuko's bedpost and landed in bed next to him. It was something she'd done many times as child. This time it felt different to both of them. She leaned over and whispered in his hear, "Zuzu, I am going to give what you want."The words made Zuko's heart race. Then he wondered if it was a trap. "What do I want?""We both know what you want. ""OK, then give it to me", his voiced crack."I don't have it with me. I'll get it before the ritual.""Oh, you mean, Byakurai." He turned and looked at her. "I'll meet you at sunrise. I need to send word to the fire sages." Zuko rolled out of bed. He hurried to his closet. He saw Azula on his bed out of the corner of his eye. "I'm going to go talk to Aang. We'll need his help.""OK" Azula stood and stretched. Zuko watched. She started walking to the door. Again Zuko watched. Her hand griped the door handle. "Zuko, what else do you want?"He hated when she'd ask loaded questions. It meant she either knew the answer, or she wanted to trick him in to giving her the answer she suspected. "What do you mean?"She turned to face him. "You must want something else. You said Byakurai as if that was not the only thing you want.""I am just tired. I knew you meant Byakurai." He turned his back to her and pretended to search his closet. The minutes seemed like hours as he waited for her to leave the room. Finally, the door closed. Zuko was alone. "Why is Azula helping me? It could be a trick. It's not like she hasn't tricked me before”. Zuko put on a shirt. “If she were really toying with me she wouldn't have let things go. You better be telling the truth Azula." Zuko left to tell Aang Azula would help. While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
