Chapter 7- Surprises.

Saturday.
A very sunny day. Surprisingly warm for February.

Kimi decided that going to the local swimming pool was a good idea. Suzy and Lill said yes immediately. Tommy and Dill were obviously not going to join her, Chuckie and Phil decided that they were going to hang around with Tommy and Angelica said she 'had better things to do than hang around with a bunch of pre-teens.'

They swam, they dived, they talked like good friends do, which meant they talked a load of rubbish. There are two signs to a good friendship. One is that you can have a long, yet comfortable silence. The other is that you can talk without there needing to be a subject, you just say whatever comes to mind.

After an hour they tired of swimming and sat on a small café, which was poolside. They had a plate of fries between them and a milkshake each. Kimi looked at their smiling faces and felt a flutter in her chest as she looked at Suzy, her smile warmed her core and the sight of the young woman in her red bikini was making her feel good in all the right places.

Suzy noticed Kimi's stares and her laughter dies and her smile fell. Kimi glanced away guiltily and put excessive attention on her strawberry milkshake. She had just managed to get Suzy back, she didn't want to drive her away again.

Lill, noticing the growing air of uneasiness between them, managed to save the day.
"So, who are you taking to the valentines day ball?" She asked. The atmosphere dissolved and the girls friendly attitudes began to return.
"I think I'll get Lance to ask me; you know, that blonde guy on the football team." Said Suzy with dreamy smile upon her face and sipping at her shake. It drove Kimi to distraction, Lill had to tap her elbow to drive her out of her daydream.

Since Suzy had discovered Kimi's feelings and had come to accept them, Kimi had stopped trying so hard to hide them from her. It made Suzy uneasy, but she was making an effort to not be bothered by it too much. Had she known that Kimi was still holding the majority of her feelings back, she might not stay so close. Kimi had to exercise restraint that would put most priests to shame. She wanted to hold Suzy, to kiss her and caress every inch of her skin. Kissing, licking, sucking and loving every inch until she screamed her name in ecstatic delight.

Lill tapped her arm and drove Kimi out of her daydream. She blushed lightly and took her eyes away from Suzy and looked at Kimi in her one-piece, figure hugging, blue bathing suit.
"I'm taking Matthew. " Kimi replied without hesitation.

Lill stared at Kimi, then Suzy and looked confused at their expression. Kimi looked uneasy, while Suzy looked sad.
"I, don't mean to pry..." Lill began, but Kimi seemed to read her thoughts and answered the unasked question.
"Matthew and I aren't really going out, it's all camouflage." She said. Lill looked confused for a moment. Kimi and Suzy stayed silent, waiting for it to click.
"Camouflage?" Lill muttered to herself. "But that's to hide. He'd only..." She trailed off and they could see the realisation dawning on her face. "He's gay."

Kimi grabbed Lill by the wrist tightly. The move was so sudden that Lill was shocked and did nothing while Kimi squeezed her tightly.
"You have to keep it a secret. You can't tell anyone, and I mean anyone, not even Phil. Matthew is not ready for people to know and as much as you love your brother I don't know yet if he would keep something like this a secret. You have to promise, you will tell no one. Promise." she demanded. Lill stared at her for several seconds, afraid. Kimi's eyes flashed with something she couldn't quite place. Something that was an alien feeling to her, could it be anger? Lill didn't know Kimi could get angry.
"I promise." Lill said in a shaky voice. Kimi released her and Lill stared at her wrist. There were five white, circular marks where Kimi had been holding so tight. She may even end up with bruises there.

An uneasy silence fell across the group. Lill rubbed her wrist gently while Kimi tried to keep her eyes off Suzy. Again, it was Lill that found a way to break the silence.
"When you told me you were gay, I thought you were so brave." She spoke with a soft voice that made Suzy and Kimi lean in close to listen. Ordinarily Kimi would have been distracted by how close Suzy was, but Lill was so serious, that she forgot.
"It was inspirational. I wanted to tell you all something about myself, but I guess I'm too afraid to tell everyone at once like you were. You two have to promise to keep this a secret, no matter what. If you tell anyone I'll find a way to make the rest of your lives hell. You got me?"

She sounded so strange, almost angry, and afraid at the same time. Suzy and Kimi glanced at each other and back to Lill, they knew she was being sincere.
"We'll keep quiet." Said Suzy slowly.

Lill looked down at her milkshake and stirred it with her straw. She was clearly approaching a difficult subject.
"For a long time I've been sure about my feelings."

Suzy and Kimi exchanged glances again. Both of them were sure about what she was going to say, but they let her continue, it was good for her to say it aloud.
"I think I've always kind of known, ever since I was little. But it's only over the last couple of years that I realised what I am."
"Your gay?" said Suzy. She was trying to be understanding, but unfortunately her patience was wearing thin. Lill looked at her and looked confused.
"Gay? No I'm not gay. I'm a closet nudist."

This produced exactly the reaction she expected from Suzy and Kimi.
"A who what in the huh?" Said Kimi while Suzy sat in silent confusion. Lill continued, now that she had started the words seemed to flow out her easily.
"A closet nudist. I'm a nudist, I feel most comfortable when I'm in just my own skin. I feel natural and free when I can go around without anything on. But I'm a closet nudist, I haven't been able to tell anyone until now and I haven't gone to any nudist resorts, clubs, beaches. Or anything that has nudist in the title. But I know what I am."

Kimi looked around, no one had heard a word of what Lill had just said. The adults around them never listened to the nonsense conversations of children.
"Why, if you've been so afraid to tell anyone, are you telling us this now?" asked Kimi, thinking that she might already know the answer.
"Because of you." Said Lill. "You were so afraid to tell everyone, but you did it all the same. I wished I could be as daring as you. I even planned how I could gather everyone together and tell you all at once. But in the end my courage failed me."

She was shaking, physically shaking with fear and sadness. Kimi gripped one hand and Suzy the other.
"I know it was hard for you to tell us this Lill. No matter what, we'll be by your side, whether you tell the others or not. Whether they stay or turn away, we'll always be by your side." Said Kimi, speaking slowly but with a sincere passion that told Lill every word was true.
"I'll be there." Said Suzy. "Supporting every decision you make. And quietly wondering why I can't have any normal friends." he said this so sweetly that both Kimi and Lill knew she was joking in the kindest possible way.

Laughing and happy again the three girls decided to abandon their food, get changed and go home.

Their good mood lasted through the showers that washed the chlorine from their bodies. It lasted while they dried and dressed themselves. It lasted until they were outside and Kimi switched on her mobile phone.

The phone beeped once activated, signalling she had a voicemail message.
"Must be important. Most people just call back later." She commented as she put the phone to her ear. As she listened, her smile dropped and her knees felt weak. Suzy and Lill grabbed her as she fell toward the ground and helped Kimi over to a nearby bench.

Kimi slowly took the phone away and breathed the slow rattling breath of someone in shock. Tears began to well up in her eyes and her hands were shaking.
"What have I done?" She whispered.

Suzy took the phone from Kimi's hand and replayed the message.
"Kimi. This is Tommy. Everyone is going to know you're gay. Everyone is going to know what you are and I want you to know that I'm the one that's going to tell them. I want you to know that it's me so that you know what your twisted, sickening actions do to people. You deserve everything you get. Bitch."
