Orion worried his lip as he gently melded the colors together, shifting the previous darker tones to a light lilac. He beamed when the colors did exactly what he wished them to do and spread the lighter color over the inner veins of the flower before merging the color with the darker shades of the outer petals. Once he was finished with the first he began to work on the other two in the picture, checking his reference to be sure he was able to properly capture the way the light played over the foliage.
Kylie almost tripped over the tarp he had put up when she came in before she righted herself; dropping her school bag at the door. She grinned excitedly when she saw her lover painting and crept over quietly to see how well it was going. Her eyes softened at the light scene, a tabby kitten fast asleep in a flower patch. He really was adorable and so sweet! She pressed against his back as she examined the painting.
"It's gorgeous," she concluded after a few more moments.
Orion blushed deeply. "It's not done yet though," he pointed out, keeping his strokes steady, inside though his core was absolutely glowing with warmth. He was glad she liked it, especially since it was his first true painting. He had always been so frustrated during his previous attempts when he was not able to get the colors to mix or blend properly; now that practice was paying off.
"It'll still be gorgeous." She wrapped her arms around him. She was amazed at how proficient he had become in such a short time. It seemed like just a few weeks ago he had been drawing stick figures. "Maybe we'll even be able to get you your own gallery," she mused. She kissed his cheek, returning to grab her bag. "I'm going to finish my homework for the night."
She smiled as she went into their room, plopping down on the bed and opening one of her text books. She laid the book out in front of her and rolled onto her stomach. Feet crossed in the air as she read. It had been two weeks since Joseph’s party and finals had begun. She was physically exhausted, but she couldn't just give up on studying. With a lazy yawn she shook her head to wake herself up, scanning over the math problems with an ever growing sense of drowsiness. Math had never been her subject and it certainly was not helping now that she was so tired!
Orion sighed as he watched and began to paint once more. Since school had started up once more most of her time was spent between there and her work, leaving her exhausted and usually with little time for him. It had been made clear that she was not able to concentrate when he attempted to cuddle her as she studied; she soon would ignore whatever she was doing in favor of him. She had made clear how important the final tests were and had attempted to distance himself for a while, at least until they were over.
He couldn't complain though, at least she was still with him. She’d habitually call him over to snuggle with her once she had finished her homework, generally falling fast asleep almost immediately. He glanced at one of his covered portraits and worried his lip once more. That was the only one he’d never allow her to examine, at least not yet. It was not ready yet and wouldn’t be for a few more days now, just in time for her birthday. He had plenty of time to work on it after she had gone to bed, using candle light usually so he would not wake her up with the intense lamps of the living room.
Joseph had informed him of the special upcoming day and he had been beyond thankful. Kylie usually celebrated every month that she had gotten Orion by going to a fancy restaurant or buying her clone more paints and canvases. He wanted to do something wonderful for her and thanks to Joseph he had been able to make reservations at her favorite restaurant and was even able to buy her a present! The man had just made him promise to do a portrait of him, Hermes and Juno in return for his help. It did not seem fully fair to Orion but the man wouldn’t hear of any other type of compensation.
He put down his brushes when her head dropped again. Going into the kitchen, he poured water into a pan and placed it onto the stove. A happy smile crossed his face plate as he pulled out some of the caffeinated tea that she preferred to coffee. With a flourish, he placed a tea bag in the light blue mug, moving to grab the water once it began to boil. He poured the liquid into the mug carefully.
As he waited for it to steep he peeked into the refrigerator. If he knew her, she hadn’t yet eaten. He finally decided on heating up some of the spaghetti that they had had the previous day. He checked to make sure the noodles were well heated before grating a large portion of Parmesan and buttering the noodles. He poured two spoonfuls of sugar into the tea, mixing it slowly, then he placed both dishes on a ceramic tray.
Kylie looked up as she met the delicious smell of noodles and looked surprised at Orion. She blushed as her stomach growled hungrily in reaction to the food as she sat up. She smiled as she accepted his gift. “Thank you.” She leaned up to kiss his cheek. “You know me better than I do,” she teased.
He smiled softly. “You haven’t been eating well recently,” he murmured, leaning close to her. “It worries me.” He nuzzled his nose against her cheek, adoring the warmth of her skin. “Your finals will be over this week, correct?” he wondered, pressing his forehead against hers.
She grinned as she enjoyed the contact, wrapping her arms around his shoulders. “Yep, and then we can spend all the time we want together,” she whispered softly. God she was looking forward to that fact. She just wanted to cuddle up with her beloved clone and sleep for the next few weeks. She sighed and enjoyed his warmth before mumbling in disappointment when he pulled away. She looked up at him accusingly; his warm heat had almost lulled her into much needed sleep.
He grinned at her apologetically. “Then…would you like to go out with me this Saturday?” he asked softly after a moment, looking down as his face plates took on a darker tone. He couldn’t believe how nervous and embarrassed he felt!
Kylie looked at him shocked before grinning at the darker color of his faceplate. Her heart began to beat faster, a giddy sense of happiness flowing through her veins. “Are you asking me out?” she asked softly, leaning closer to him.
He glanced up at her, looking back down as he caught her tentative gaze. Orion nodded shyly growing more and more tense at her silence. His blue optics glanced up once more before he let out an undignified yelp when she leapt at him. It took him a moment to realize what was going on. Then he was returning the eager kiss she had planted on his lips. He was most disappointed when she pulled away, just as embarrassed as he had been.
“I…I would love that.” She moved a lock of her hair behind her ear nervously. “We’ll make it a date, ok?” She asked softly.
The widest grin she had ever seen spread across his face and his head bobbed eagerly as he hugged her tightly. “Then I’ll leave you to your studying.” He kissed her softly, going back to the living room and taking up his brushes once more. His form was trembling with pure excitement. He glanced back at the room, core burning with pride when he saw the happiness hadn’t yet faded from her features.

Kylie frowned as she attempted to see past the blindfold he had put on her. “Orion…” she warned softly, though her lips twitched in to a smile. “What are you up to?” she wondered.
Orion just grinned as he drove them both down town. Her present was in the trunk and he was eager to present it to her after their romantic dinner. He had made sure to tell her to dress nice and he had even put on the cuff links and bowtie that she had had crafted for him. He wanted this to be perfect, or even beyond perfect! “We’re almost there, just be patient,” he murmured, taking one of her hands and threading their fingers together.
She snorted but her heart pounded with excitement. She did not really have to wonder how the mech had made the plans since Joseph had been snickering whenever he called. She just wished she knew what the occasion was. Her fingers drummed excitedly on her thighs before Orion took one of her hands. She marveled at the warm metal and knew that she would never truly get used to it. It was so strange and wonderful…A machine that was just as alive as she was.
Her breath hitched when they stopped and she began to move even more excitedly. “Are we here?” she wondered shyly, wanting so badly to yank off the blindfold.
Orion grinned and remained silent as he got out of the car before moving to her side. He brought her out slowly before undoing the covering around her eyes. He grinned when she gaped at the Japanese restaurant. “Happy birthday,” he whispered softly in her ear.
The woman looked at him shocked. Her birthday? Had it really been that long? “Orion…how did-?” She stopped and shook her head, knowing it was a stupid question. She tapped his face mask and when he removed it she kissed him deeply, wanting to convey just how special he made her feel right now.
Orion purred and returned the kiss, then pulled back. He led her into the restaurant and bowed to the proprietor. “Two for Owens,” He said smoothly, keeping her arm in his as they were lead to one of the older style rooms. He moved into a kneeling position as she moved to do the same. He smiled when one of the servers came back with two cups of green tea, two bowls of miso soup and two large bowls of rice. He understood how much she loved the traditional style of Japanese culture and had made sure when he and Joseph had come here to get the menu completely prepared for their special night.
Kylie had never felt so giddy before! To think he had taken so much time to prepare for this, not to mention go through with the effort to start in the first place. She took up her chopsticks eagerly, breaking them smoothly. This was by far her favorite restaurant and she loved to speak with the owners. Her goal was to graduate with a master’s in Japanese culture and language as she someday hoped to be a professor. The only problem was that it was so expensive. She would definitely have to weasel out of Orion where he had gotten the money later. That could wait though; she really did not want to think about such things tonight.
He watched her eagerly as she tasted the food. He relaxed when she ate it with relish. A tiny part of him had doubted his choice, double guessing on where they should go, or that she would not be happy with the dishes he had chosen. To have those reservations squashed made his pump slow and resume its normal rhythm. He ate some of his own and marveled at the strange texture of the tofu from the miso soup. It was strange, almost rubbery and had no flavor. However when it was combined with the broth it created a strange sensation and not at all undesirable.
They continued through the dinner happily talking about various items. In between the entrees they would move to hold hands before continuing on and Kylie was secretly pleased that he had chosen to eat as well. It would have felt awkward had the mech clone just sat there and watched her.
By the time dinner was through and they had finished with a few scrumptious, strawberry ice cream mochi Kylie felt full and content. As she helped Orion clean his fingers of the sticky, doughy substance she frowned when she didn’t see a check. She raised an eye brow in suspicion. Had he really paid it all in advance as well? His lips twitched at his faux innocent look. He had definitely earned some brownie points with this, she decided, and she was more than excited to help him decide what he was going to spend it on.
Orion attempted to maintain his innocence, even when she looked at him doubtfully. After all they were getting to the best part of the evening! Now he’d be able to show her the painting he had been working on since he had found out it was her birthday! He wanted so badly to just run out in the street to show her, but Joseph had said he needed to be patient. He had to wait and not let the surprise get ruined by his over eager behavior. He was glad they had made the reservations for an early dinner, the paints would look even better in the setting sun. The natural shades of red and orange would play off his colors, adding a needed contrast.
As they stepped out the two did not even notice the rapidly descending blur. Kylie screamed as glass exploded around them as the great, silver behemoth landed. She could feel her heart about to burst as she attempted to figure out what had just happened. She could hear screams of terror and shock ring out. She fought to get back to her feet to see what exactly had hit the street. As her heart stopped she wished she hadn’t.
Kylie knew the creature’s name from the news, but she had prayed never to meet him face to face. Or more accurately face to foot.
Megatron…
She gawked stupidly up at the Decepticon, every instinct screaming for her to run even as her legs refused to move. Her blood froze as her eyes met his glowing red embers. Tears began to run down her face, legs finally giving up beneath her. This was impossible…
Megatron clenched his fist as he gazed at the various buildings. Starscream had run off before he could take his anger out on the Seeker - so he currently had to find some other way to vent his anger. He would find the freagin’ fech eventually, but for now he would show those filthy Autobots just what happened when they interfered with his plans! He almost wished that they would send some of their filthy fakes after him so he was able to crush them. He smirked at the sudden cacophonous roar that rose as the insects around his feet panicked. Ahh, fear, terror, those were emotions and things that he could understand. It filled him with pride and a leer spread across his features.
Orion maintained his ground, moving in front of Kylie when he realized his master wasn’t running. His meta was screaming that he needed to get her out of the way. His core however just would not allow him to turn his back on the Cybertronian mech. It screamed that they would be signing their own death sentence if they allowed him such an advantage.
The overlord sneered as he picked up the sounds of a nearby crying organic beside him and raised his cannon angrily. Such useless things! They had no purpose on his world and he would let them know it! He glared down at the trembling flesh bag before him, crimson optics blazing as his weapon let out a whine of energy. He let out a snort when a blast hit his ankle, optics narrowing in annoyance even as he stopped his own blast.
Orion snarled at the colossal warrior, rifle out and smoking as he sought to grab the Decepticon overlord’s attention. “Step away!” he ordered - voice cold in warning. Anger and rage filled him at the sight of the gladiator, not just because of the threat he posed, but because of something far deeper in his meta. He moved further towards Kylie, attempting to shield her completely.
Megatron turned swiftly before smirking. Oh this was far better. Crushing Optimus, or even an effigy of him, would be at least a bit therapeutic. Perhaps he’d even take back the head for Starscream. He ignored what the toy said, grabbing the insect, shaking off the organic that attempted to keep him with her.
Kylie’s eyes widened even further and her terror reached a level she never expected it could. She couldn’t lose him! She couldn’t! She scrambled to her feet after she was dropped, running in an attempt to get to him before the Decepticon crushed him or worse. It seemed surreal as she pushed and shoved to get closer to the Transformer. She didn’t know what she would do once she got to them, but she had to do something.
“ORION!! You put him down! You put him down now!” she screamed, fighting against the group of people that were running the other way.
Megatron smirked as he saw the angry determination in the Autobot clone’s optics. Oh too perfect… He bared his dentals at the clone when the toy attempted to pull out his miniature version of the true Prime’s battle rifle and knocked it out of his arm with a simple flick of his fingers.
Orion let out a scream of agony as one of his arms was wrenched in the opposite direction by the force of the giant’s fingers. He kicked against the hand that held him, gasping in pain as Megatron gripped his uninjured arm between two fingers. He gritted his dentals behind his mask, attempting to seal away the agony, not wanting to give the Decepticon the pleasure of his cries.
“Do you fear me, little one?” The giant asked, a deadly purr in his voice as he examined the doll.
“No,” Orion hissed defiantly, refusing to back down to the mech.
Megatron smirked. “Wrong answer.” He slowly ripped off the delicate instrument, marveling at the way it sparked as it would have had it been a normal mech. He examined the fluid that began to pour from the wound. He gripped the clone’s left leg after he had dropped with the first appendage to the ground. “And now?” he asked.
Orion’s meta was flashing red with warnings. “N-no…” he hissed. The dark chuckle that came from the giant’s vocalizer caused a deep sludgy sense of terror to settle over them. He only had a moment before another wail of torment escaped his vocalizer as the Decepticon pulled off his lower limb with the same perverted glee. This mech was sick!
Kylie felt like her heart was being crushed when she heard Orion’s screams of agony. No… No, this couldn’t be happening! “Orion! ORION!” She screamed, crying nearly so hard that she couldn’t breathe. She was losing the fight against the crowd, her energy running out. What was she going to do?! She sobbed desperately. “O-Orion…”
There was nothing she could do…She was doomed to watch her precious partner be pulled apart. What was she supposed to do? She wasn’t a warrior! She didn’t even know how to shoot a gun! She screamed before grabbing a rock and chucking it at the behemoth in helpless agony. “Let him GO!” Her voice was becoming hoarser and soon she feared she would lose it completely.
Orion caught a glimpse of Kylie fighting to get him out of the corner of his fading optics and whimpered. “Kylie…” He mumbled softly, feeling sadistic black fingers enclose his other leg. He had to protect her...how was he supposed to protect her now though? He kicked out weakly, wailing when all the tyrant did was crush his ped between the tips of his fingers. He heard the wail of sirens in the distance and the whooping of fire trucks and felt a strange sense of comfort. Those were safe sounds…He knew those noises, recognized them in the back of his meta…they would stop this monster even if he couldn’t. And then Kylie would be safe, they would protect her. Reassured, he smiled softly as his optics began to power off. "S-Sorr-rry…” he managed before he finally allowed his systems to shut off.
Kylie felt her heart stop as the despot finally let her clone drop, bored with his plaything, turning to face the challengers who were rushing up the street.
“ORION!!!”

For those of you who don’t know, mochi are basically flavored, sticky rice cakes. Sometimes they can just be pure rice while other times there can be fillings inside of them. My personal favorite are chocolate or strawberry ice cream filled mochi.
