Chapter 61: Enemy Unmasked.
(Middleton, Colorado - August 9th, 2008)
Rufus dodged a black sedan as he reached the entrance to the mall parking lot. He was concentrating so hard on following the scent he picked up, and worrying that it wouldn't be enough to guide him to the abducted girls, he didn't hear the car screeching to a stop, or it's door opening. It was only when he heard his name called out, that he looked back.
The large, muscular, man getting out of the car wore a black suit and tie that were only a few shades darker than his skin. With his close cropped hair and dark sunglasses, he would have looked imposing, but the wide smile on his face didn't fit the rest. Neither did the tickets to the upcoming Global Wrestling Association event, “Low Blows in Lowerton,” he was holding in his hand.
Relief flooded through the naked mole rat. With Ron out of town, and Kim on vacation, he had not figured on having anyone to help him. Now things were looking up. He squeaked out the man's name. “Banga!”
“Hey there, Rufus.” Banga waved the tickets in his hand. “I scored three seats! Sis is gonna be so surprised.” He pulled off his sunglasses and looked around. “Where is Monique anyway? You aren't out here all alone are you?”
Waving his forepaw for the man to follow, Rufus led him over to where Monique's purse lay on the pavement. Speaking as slow and clearly as he could, he tried to tell the man everything he knew.
A few short minutes later, Banga wasn't smiling and looked very imposing indeed, as he strode down a hallway leading to the door of the mall security office. Inside, he found one of the mall security guards and Officer Riley of the Middleton police force. Both were looking at a surveillance video from one of the parking lot cameras. They looked up as he entered, but before either could ask what he was doing there, he pulled a small leather folder from his pocket and flipped it open.
“CIA. I am taking full control of this situation.”
Riley puffed up authoritatively. “The CIA has no jurisdiction here. This is a police matter.”
Banga took off his sunglasses and gave the uniformed man a hard glare. As he stared the man down, Rufus poked his head up from Banga's suit pocket. “Maybe so, but I have a Mystical Monkey Powered Naked Mole Rat and I'm not afraid to use him.”

(Natural Leisure Resort - August 10th, 2008)
Kim knew from the moment she and Shego entered the crowded restaurant, the Houle's didn't have sex, oral or otherwise, on their minds. The gaunt, haggard, and distraught looks on their faces were dead giveaways.
Gloria looked up as the two women approached the table. “Kim! I'm so glad you came. Things have gotten so complicated. We weren't sure what to do. You're the only one we could turn to. You have to help us!”
Shego shook her head as she and Kim sat down at the table. “Hold on there. Care to try that again, only less confusing this time?”
Buster patted his wife's arm. “Kim's sister is right. I think we'd better start from the beginning.”
Slipping into a state of puzzlement, Kim asked. “Wait a minute, how do you know Shego's my sister?”
A ghost of a smile flickered over Buster's lips. “We know a lot of things. You see Kim, it's our job to know things. I'm breaking a long standing agreement to tell you this, but I can't see any other way to handle what has happened. My wife and I are both special agents with the CIA. Our assignment, for several years now, has been keeping tabs on you and your family.”
Gloria spoke up. “It's like this. Not long before Gideon Stoppable retired from Global Justice, he made an agreement with a number of clandestine organizations, including ours, that put your entire family under the sole aegis of GJ. The CIA was constrained to just watch and listen, but not take any action concerning any of you.”
Buster resumed the explanation. “As you can guess, this policy didn't sit well with our leadership. Especially when you entered high school and started using your genetically enhanced abilities to take on the supervillains of the world. We were ordered to station ourselves in your hometown of Middleton, to keep a closer eye on your activities.”
Kim felt anger rising inside her as she listened to the explanation. She raised a hand and pointed out toward the beach. Right at the spot where she and her mother first encountered the Houle's. “Then what happened out there... That was what you call keeping a closer eye on us? What? Were you ordered to..?”
“It's not like that at all Kim.” Buster looked quite ashamed as he spoke. “We were already here on the island, investigating a rumor, and like a number of other guests we fell victim to the food poisoning outbreak. We knew you and your mother were on the island, but since neither of you had left your suite for three days, we just didn't anticipate you showing up on the beach the way you did. It came as a complete surprise to us, when you invited us to.. Well.. You know.”
“What my husband is trying to say is, we had to maintain our cover. It would have made a scene, and possibly raised suspicion, for us to refuse.”
Buster looked over at his wife. “Full disclosure, Dear. As we agreed.”
The woman nodded. “Yes, of course. The truth is, we wanted to do it. One of the reasons we were recruited to watch over your family, is that we are more open minded than most agents. We knew it might eventually compromise us, but that's something we've had to deal with for years already.”
Shego looked at Kim, who seemed only partially mollified by the explanation. “They seem sincere enough, for spooks that is.” She looked over at Gloria. “The question I have is, why are they telling us this now? What kind of help do you need that would make you come clean? Seems to me your superiors would be a little upset about that.”
Buster nodded. “They will be upset, but right now, we don't care. You, Kim, are our only hope. You see, when we came to Middleton, we did so as a family. We thought that having our son and daughter with us would help our cover. Since our son is also a junior agent with The Company, it also meant another set of eyes and ears on the ground.” He shook his head and leaned forward, across the table. “What we never planned on, could never have anticipated, was that you and our daughter would meet and become best friends.”
Kim felt her anger drain away. She let out a startled gasp. “Monique!?”
The Houle's nodded. Buster reached out and grabbed Kim, gently, but firmly, by the arm. “That's right. And that is why we are going against all protocols and telling you. Our daughter has been kidnapped and we have good reason to believe there is a connection between her abduction and what has been going on with your family.” As he released her arm, a pleading look arose in his eyes. “Help us get our daughter back!”
The sincerity emanating from the couple was palatable, but Kim couldn't quite believe what they were saying. She'd known Mo for years and... As she thought back, trying to remember when she met her friend’s parents, she found herself faced with a surprising fact. She had not met them. Many times she went to Mo’s house, but they were never around. According to her friend, they were always traveling, mostly to golf tournaments. The only member of Mo's family she ever met, now that she thought about it, was her older brother, Banga. In fact, as far as she could remember, not once in the entire time she had known Monique, had the girl ever even mentioned her last name! It was just something she simply considered to be an affectation on the part of her friend, like those celebrities who only went by one name, like Britina.
Now she could see it all for the anomaly it was. As she looked at the distraught couple, she knew they had to be telling her the truth. That meant her friend really was in danger. And that was all she needed to know.
Shego watched as a hard look filled her sister's face. It was a look she knew all too well. She knew, if she were to look in a mirror, she'd see the same fixed gaze in her own eyes. Everything else fell away. All the questions, worries, and distractions. Nothing else mattered, except the mission.
Kim activated her Kimmunicator. When the screen filled with the face of her young genius friend, she spoke. “Wade! Find Nana and tell her to get everyone down here to the beach.”
The boy looked out of the monitor inquisitively. “You got it, Kim. What's up?”
She took a deep breath. “I'll tell you when you get here.”
When Kim broke the connection, she looked back at the Houle's. “Now, I want you to tell us everything.”

It took almost an hour to set everything up at the beachfront restaurant. Mostly this was due to the need for the android staff, under Feeley's direction, to clear out the guests. Not that difficult a task since most of them were due to leave on the transport ship that would be arriving within the hour. It also gave Wade time to set up a large view screen next to the bar. Also, at Nana's insistence, it gave everyone enough time to put on some clothes. Something she hoped, along with the outdoor meeting place, would keep the chances of another orgiastic outbreak to a minimum.
While this was going on, Anne filled her daughter, and the rest of the gathering family, of her new status. Something that got an amused comment from Shego.
“So, I guess that means you really are a princess now, Princess!”
Anne snickered at Kim blushing reaction. “I hate to tell you this Shego, but that makes you one too.”
Kim's embarrassment went away as she hooked an arm around her sister's waist. “Yeah, Princess Shego. That's got a nice ring to it.”
Shego was spared thinking of an appropriate comeback when Nana stepped up to the bar and called for everyone's attention. The nervous banter filling the open sided building stopped as she spoke.
“I had thought that, with the death of Redmond Tappe, the immediate danger was past. I believed we were safe, with all of us here on the island together, and that we had plenty of time to decide what to do about whoever was manipulating our family. Not to mention figuring out how to handle the false accusations against us. Apparently, I was wrong.” She looked at her great granddaughter. “Kimberly?”
Kim went up and stood next to her great grandmother. Only by keeping her focus on the current sitch, was she able to ignore that fact that the woman was dressed only in a very tiny bikini. So much, she thought, for keeping sexy thoughts and desires away. She looked out at her gathered family while she tried to compose herself.
The first thing that caught her attention was Mego. For the first time since getting to the island, he was allowed by Dr. Yarbouti to leave his hospital bed. Even so, he was confined to a wheelchair, and the doctor had insisted that he remain with the injured man the entire time he was away from the resort hospital.
He wasn't the only one injured in the group, but the shiner and sling encased arm Sheldon bore were nothing major. Kim was glad to note that the man was much more subdued in comparison to the last time the family met. Obviously the discussion he had with his sister, who sported a new bruise on her chin and limped into the restaurant favoring her right leg, had calmed down his temper.
They, along with the rest, were looking to her to tell them what was going on. With what she learned from the Houle's, she had some answers to give them. Answers that would probably shock them, as much as it had her.
She began by introducing the pair of CIA agents and explaining their daughter's abduction. While she did this, Wade was busy downloading a video from Gloria Houle's cell phone to the laptop he had connected to the vid screen. When he gave her a nod, indicating he was ready, she continued.
“Before we get into the heart of the matter, I want to show you a video that was recorded from a surveillance camera at the Middleton Mall. If I'm correct, some of you will recognize the people involved.”
Wade hit a button on the laptop and the screen came on. Kim kept her attention on the scene that played out, while listening to the shocked exclamations, and what were certainly gasps of recognition, from her family. She watched again as the two identical blondes abducted both Tara and Monique, with the latter apparently only as an afterthought. Since the camera was at an angle that showed the interior of the van, she could also see the already kidnapped, and unconscious, forms of Bonnie and Justine inside it.
When the video ended, Kim heard Betty speak up. “I was right. Tappe did have the backing of the Special Council. Or part of it, at least. One of those women is most certainly Ambassador Euryale, the head of the Council.”
The name her first cousin spoke gave Kim pause. There was something familiar about it, but she couldn't quite put her finger on it. One thing was certain, the woman hadn't given her any name when they had sex on the ride in the Tunnel of Lust. She shoved the memory aside, for the moment, as another member of her family spoke up. This time, it was her mother.
“Cherry Poptart!” Anne shrugged at the looks she got from her family. “That's the name she used when she danced. She started working at the Hole in the Wall Club just a few weeks before I met James.” Slight red spots infused her cheeks. “We did a few special dances together.” She cleared her throat as her blush deepened. “The last time I saw her was when she left one day to take some flyers for the club to some of the local universities.” Her face when from red to pale. “That's how James found out about the club! Oh My! It was her. She arranged the whole thing!”
Another voice came from the murmuring crowd. “I thought it was a dream... A nightmare...”
All eyes turned to Sheldon Director. He could see they were expecting another outburst. He fought to keep his voice calm as the memory came back to him. Everyone in the restaurant could hear the sound of metal grinding as he clenched his mechanical fist.
Sara put her arms around her son's shoulders, holding him tightly. Trying to assuage his pain. “Go on. It's ok. We're all here for you.”
In the comforting embrace of his mother's arms, the supervillain found the will to tell of the reason for his bottled up hatred. Something he'd only now, with the help of his sister, started to come to grips with. A ragged sigh escaped his lips as he told them of the incident that led to the loss of his arm and eye. The incident that led him to believe all heterosexuals hated him and anyone like him. Then he told them what he had never told anyone before.
“Right after, when I was in the hospital, I had a dream. Or I thought it was a dream.” His eye went to the video screen. “She came to me. Rode me. Took me.” He turned his head, lowering it as he did. “Until now, I thought it was my subconscious trying to tell me I was wrong to love other men. That I should be normal.” He lifted his head again. Everyone could see solid determination in his remaining eye. “It was what she did that made me think there was only one way to overcome the doubt inside of me. Everything! Everything I've done has been because of her!”
He lapsed into silence, crying into his mother's breast.
A sound eclipsed his sorrow. A growl of anger that was so menacing, all the rest of them turned to look at Shego. The woman was standing, with her hands full of sparking green fire. Only their genetically enhanced reaction time gave Kim and Nana to ability to dive out of the way before searing hot flame turned the video screen into a lump of molten slag.
Shego's chest heaved. Her voice came out a harsh and hated filled whisper. “That bitch!”
Kim lifted her head, saw that her sister was apparently done throwing balls of fire around, then jumped up and ran to her. “Shego!? What is it? What's wrong?”
The flame surrounding Shego's hands died out. She seemed to collapse in on herself. Kim barely got a glimpse of the pain in her eyes before she sat down and hid her face in her arms. “I don't... Won't... Talk about it. Not now. I just can't.”
Mego's voice caught everyone's attention. “I can.”
He saw his sister look up, could see her silent plea, knew it was ok for him to tell what happened. “One of those women is the reason Shego left Team Go. At the time she was dating our brother, Hego. It was her that convinced him, and I'm sorry to say, myself, that Shego was much to violent and uncontrollable to lead us. Only the Wego's weren't convinced, at least not until...” He paused. Knew it would be too much for his sister to handle, hearing the rest spoken of openly. “Shego will have to tell you the rest. When she's ready to.” He leaned back in his wheelchair. “What matters is, where the blame needs to fall. With the woman who called herself Stheno.”
Nana picked herself up off the floor. In her dive, her bikini top came partially undone. She didn't bother to readjust it, even though her left breast was completely exposed. It didn't seem to matter as nobody in the place was thinking about sex right at the moment. It did, however, serve to remind her of something. Since she could see Kim and Anne were both going to be busy comforting Shego for a while, she felt it was time for her to put in her two cents worth.
“I too, have seen one of these women before. Right here on the island. It was just before I was attacked by the robots.” There was a stir in the crowd at that statement. “She is no longer here though. This morning, when I went to put on the clothes I left on the boat I came here in, I found out it had been stolen. The theft was caught on the resort's video surveillance system.”
One of the non family members present joined in with a diffident statement. “If you will pardon me for a moment? I think I know what this woman was up to.”
Dr. Yarbouti looked at all the eyes now upon him. “I happen to have spoken with this woman. It was right after the outbreak of food poisoning. It was her that suggested to me that it might be a good idea to call on the help of Kim Possible.”
Nana bit her lip and nodded her head as she thought about that. “As we can see, the manipulation goes very deep. There are probably many more instances we'll think of before we understand what is fully going on. That's what matters most right now. Figuring out just what they are up to. Why they have been interfering in our lives. Why they would kidnap those young girls, which is what is really making me wonder what their plan is. As far as I know, they have no connection with us, or that so-called manifesto. None of their names are on the list.”
Slim, who was stroking his mustache with a puzzled look on his face, cleared his throat. “Now just a cotton pickin' minute. Somethin' here don't make no sense. If that woman done stole yer boat from here, how in the heck did she get all the way back ter Middleton by this mornin'?”
“She didn't.”
All of them looked at Kim. The look on her face was one of certainty. She left Shego to her mother's care and went to stand next to the remains of the vid screen. “Euryale? Stheno? Don't you get it?” She looked around, but saw none of her family making the same connection, as she just had. “Hasn't anyone here read any Greek mythology?” She looked over at Ron. “Don't you remember, in Latin class? The teacher made us read all the old stories in their original language?”
Ron shrugged and tried not to look embarrassed. “Come on, KP. You know I spent all my time in that class daydreaming about Salsa dancing with J-Lo.”
Kim rolled her eyes at her best friend, before resuming her explanation. “Anyway. My point is this. We were assuming, since we saw only two of them on the video, and I'm sure we all noted they were identical, with all that implies, that they are twins. They aren't. They're triplets. We may not know their real names, but we know how they think of themselves. They know they are evil. That they are monsters. That is why they took the names of the Gorgon sisters of Greek mythology. Stheno, Euryale, and the one everybody's heard of... Medusa.”
Yori shook her head. “I have not. I know nothing of these western stories. It is good to know who we face as our enemy, and how many they number, but I do not see how this helps us understand why they have done what they have done. What they hope to achieve is still something that is very much elusive.”
Kim thought back to her musings earlier that morning. If her train of thought wasn't completely off the tracks, she was pretty sure she had the beginning of an idea. An idea that had it's roots in Dietrich Hall's mad experiment. That encompassed the inbreeding fostered by the conniving triplets. And if she was right, it would change everything.
She gave Yori a slight smile. “Let me put my thoughts together and I might be able to make things a little clearer.”
Turning toward the resort manager, she asked. “Mr. Feeley? Do you think we can get another screen in here?”
The man nodded and pointed behind her. She turned and saw one of the android staff, who was carrying one across the beach.
“Spankin'”
She looked back at her family. “Give me a few minutes to brainstorm some things with Wade, and maybe we'll have the answers we need.”
