Leni Loud sat in the living room of the apartment she shared with her elder sister Lori. She was presently working on a carving commission someone had requested her to carve a bouquet of flowers. She found it funny why would you want carved flowers when it was easier to pick them, but it wasn’t her place to judge her clientele she’d learned that after criticizing someone for wanting her to carve them with an octopus for a head. Leni blew a breath against the sculpture knocking off any excess wood shavings. She’d have to vacuum before Lori returned or else she’d chew her out again. Leni couldn’t help but giggle at the thought of Lori actually chewing on her it was just silly.
As Leni was giggling to herself there was a knock at the door. She set down her carving tools and brushed off her “Carving” outfit which consisted of jeans and a tank top. She walked over to the door and looked through the peephole noticing a rather handsome black man on the other side. She opened the door happily. “Hello!” She said gleefully opening to the door to greet him. Clyde was surprised by the happy greeting he chalked it up to Leni actually remembering him all these years which in and of itself was shock worthy.
“Oh hello Leni I’m so glad you remember me.” Clyde said smiling as Leni cocked her head to the side placing a finger to her chin. “Umm like, sorry I don’t know who you are sorry.” She said smiling bashfully. Clyde hung his head. “Oh well never mind I’m Lincoln’s friend C-!” Leni’s eyes lit up with recognition. “Hi Chuck!” She said hugging Clyde to her considerable bust. “it’s been like, totes forever since I saw you!” She said swinging the grown man from side to side like a ragdoll. Clyde tapped Leni’s arm rapidly as he was quickly running out of air.
Leni let go Setting Clyde back on his feet as he gulped in massive amounts of air. “It’s good to *cough* see you too Leni. Did Lori tell you I was coming by?” Clyde asked as Leni pulled him inside. “Umm like I think so?” She said not quite sure. She knew she’d talked to Lori recently, but she’d been in the middle of carving and wasn’t paying all that much attention to Lori. She scratched her head and then sighed. “Like I’m sorry Clyde I know I talked to her, but I can’t remember what she said.” Clyde nodded. “No worries Leni I’ll give you the long and short of it.” He said sitting down on the nearby couch.
Clyde could see Leni’s influences all over the house everything meshed pleasantly, and he could even see Lori’s functional mind at work. There was nothing here that wasn’t absolutely necessary. A couch and love seated behind a glass coffee table. There was flat screen TV mounted on the wall. All over there were pictures of the two blondes and the rest of their family. He smiled noticing one of himself and Lincoln at the pool when they were younger. He smiled fondly at the memory. “Clyde how can something be short and long at the same time?” Leni asked looking completely confused.
Clyde inhaled slowly. “It’s a figure of speech Leni what I mean to say is that I talked with Lori after I visited Lincoln at her request. He told me some…things that I need to speak with you Lori, Luan, and Luna about.” Clyde noticed Leni’s attitude shift twice in rapid succession as she processed his words. The first was a pained expression no doubt caused from thinking about Lincoln and then there was fear most likely she was afraid of what Lincoln had told him. “W-what did he sa?” Clyde held up his hand to Leni. “I know you’re concerned about Lincoln’s wellbeing Leni, but I would like to wait for your sisters to arrive so we can all go over this together.”
Clyde could see the anxiety building up in her like a pot about to boil over. “Don’t worry Leni I’m here to help and I know we can get Lincoln better, but we have to do it as a team ok? Just be a little patient.” He said patting her hand. “Why don’t you tell me about your work Lori says you’re a carver now?” He asked hoping to get her mind off this rather dark matter for the moment. Leni’s face split into a brilliant smile as she nodded eagerly telling him about her commissions. It seemed he’d just sat down when the door opened and Lori came in looking between Clyde and Leni. “Sorry we’re late.” She said simply as she walked in followed by Luna and Luan. “Yeah we really wanted to Lunch rush over here! Get it?” Luan said giggling causing her chest to rise and fall in a hypnotic dance. Clyde could feel a stinging sensation in his nose and quickly massaged it preventing the inevitable nosebleed.
“Ha ha funny Luan.” He said with a nervous grin. Luan and Luna took stock of the young man before them as he stood to shake their hands. “Wow Clyde you really sprung up looking buddy.” Luna said giving him and “OK” with her hands as she clicked her tongue. “Yeah you’re the definition of tall dark and handsome Luan said giving Clyde a shock with her joy buzzer as she shook his hand. Clyde yelped shaking his hand as he glared playfully. “Nice to see the both of you again.” He said before turning to take all four loud sisters in with his gaze. “Well there’s no need to beat around the bush any longer. We all know why we’re here.” He said sitting back down in a chair from the kitchen as everyone else did the same. Luna and Luan taking the loveseat while Lori and Leni took the couch. “I spoke with Lincoln briefly and he told me…everything.”
Clyde watched the varying degrees of shock cross three new faces Leni already knew some what he was talking about. “Now due to doctor patient privilege I won’t tell anyone what I’ve heard, and from what Lincoln told me you were all more than consensual with this?” He asked wanting to be absolutely sure. All four girls nodded in agreement. “Ok that’s good. Now Lincoln believes that due to those…actions your parent’s death was punishment for it.” Lori scoffed. “That’s literally bullshit Clyde. There’s no way one has anything to do with the other.” Clyde nodded. “Of course it seems ridiculous to us but to Lincoln this makes perfect sense or at least he wants it to.”
Clyde rubbed his eyes. “Lincoln has always been a rational person and for something so irrational to happen without a reason is probably too much for him to bear, so he’s concocted this idea that he’s being punished which is why he pushed everyone away.” Clyde noticed Leni biting her lip on the verge of tears before Lori began to comfort him. “So what can we do dude? Is it a hopeless case or what?” Luna asked her voice catching slightly. “Not at all, I believe I can help Lincoln move past this, but I’m going to need all of your help. Now I understand none of you have had much or any contact with Lincoln in at least a year maybe more?” All four sisters nodded guilt plastered over all four of their faces.
“Well that was a bad move leaving Lincoln alone to his self-destructive behavior, but I can understand why you did, still it’s not likely that any of you will be able to help at first so I’ve enlisted help from someone who’s been in constant contact with Lincoln for the last three years. She’s been there almost every day he’s “comfortable” with her and I use the term loosely.” All four sisters looked confused wondering who had been seeing their brother so often? “It’s Lynn.” Clyde answered their unspoken question. “What, Lynn isn’t she with Pop-pop?” Luan asked looking at Lori. “Yes she’s living with Pop-pop per Lincoln’s request.” Clyde nodded. “She is, but she makes the trip from your grandparent’s home to Lincoln’s every day after school, now I’ve spoken with her about what I plan to do and she was more than willing to play her part.” He said before Leni spoke up her voice quiet. “Y-you didn’t like tell her did you?” Clyde smiled softly. “No I just told her that Lincoln is punishing himself and I need her help to get him in his right state of mind, but that’s something else I have to talk with you about. Psychology isn’t an exact science girls. Getting Lincoln back on track might mean getting him away from what you had.” He said eying them. Luna, and Luan looked conflicted obviously they had thought that having their brother back would mean being with him like that, but it wouldn’t be surprising if Lincoln would try to distance himself from the impetus of his self-destructive behavior. “If that’s what it takes then so be it.” Lori said sitting tall. Luna and Luan looked about to argue before Leni spoke. “I’m totes willing to give that up if I can just have my brother back.” She said as tears rolled down her face.
The two brunettes silenced their disagreement and nodded. “If it’s in Lincoln’s best interest then I’m game.” Luna said looking down at the floor. Luan simply nodded not trusting herself to speak. “I know this was a hard decision girls, but I’m proud that you all are so selfless, now I say that could happen, but it might not like I said the mind is a maze with infinite unseen turns.” Clyde stood up getting ready to leave. “Just because I’ll have Lynn making the big moves at first doesn’t mean I want you sitting on your hands. Talk to Lincoln, shoot him a text or better yet each of you call him. Let him know you’re still there for him.” He said as he walked out the door and headed to his car. He was exhausted time for some Big Belly Burger and a nap, still Clyde was proud of himself. He was living his dream of helping people like Dr. Lopez helped him for all those years.
Lincoln sat in front of his computer looking at his bank account making sure his commission had been properly paid for before he sent it off. “Well that’s good.” He said standing up and heading into the kitchen opening the fridge. He saw the half empty six-pack sitting there. “Go on, you deserve it after a hard day’s work, and it might be the last time you get to drink after all Clyde probably told the police and their on their way to pick you up now.” Lincoln shook his head reaching for a beer when the phone rang. He growled no doubt it was a telemarketer or something. “Fucking vultures.” He said as he grabbed the phone. “What!” He grunted into the phone hearing a small eep on the other end. “L-Linky?”
Lincoln’s heart sped up as he heard Leni’s voice. “H-hey Leni how are things?” He asked biting his tongue. “I’m good I just wanted to talk to you. I know it’s been like, a really long time.” Lincoln leaned against the wall sliding down it until he rested on his butt his back straight against the wall. “Yeah it has Leni, but I see you’re doing good I’m so proud of you.” He said smiling as he felt genuinely proud of his younger sister. It was a welcome change from the swirling pit of guilt that normally existed in him. He could hear Leni sniffle on the other end. “Thank you Linky that means a lot. I-I still love you.” Lincoln’s mouth went dry he didn’t know what to say. If he said he loved her too what knew torture would befall him or worse befall the rest of his family, but he wanted to tell her needed to. He could feel the words clawing their ways out of his throat. Lincoln clenched his teeth trying his best to cage them inside.
“It’s ok if you don’t say it back Lincoln I know how you feel. I just wanted you to hear me say it; anyway I’ve got to go. Bye Linky.” Lincoln unclenched his jaw. “Bye Leni.” He whispered as the phone hung up. Lincoln stood up and tossed his phone on the couch. “Well now that that’s over we were about to crack open a cold one.” Lincoln shook his head. “No I’m…done with that. Clyde’s going to help me.” He said grabbing the cold pizza out of the fridge and warming it up in the microwave. As the pizza was reheated Lincoln took the six-pack popped the top on all of them and poured them down the sink. “It’s time to try something new.”
