Chapter 5: The Preparation
8, June 2017 AD, 7.01 AM (Earth's time)
Earth, Beach Temple
As Steven went to inside the temple, Lion suddenly jumped to his feet and ran to his master, He then began to lick his hand.
Steven surprised little bit of his speed "Take it, easy buddy!" He kneeled down and patted him
"why are you such jerky today?" Steven chuckled
Lion said nothing...as always. Instead, he just lay down and dozed off.
"As always Lion, I glad to see you too" He sarcastically said.
Lion already fell into sleep and ignored him.
"Yep, Don't have a word to describe our friendship, do we?"
He got up and went into the room where the others are. He was about to open the door when he felt someone put a hand on his shoulder. Of course, it's Pearl. Steven turned around and smiled.
"Hey, Pearl. I thought that you are with others...and nice armor by the way." Steven commented
Pearl smiled at his comment "Thank you, Steven. I wore this during the rebellion and I surprised that it still fits me very well."
Her light armor is made with white crystal material and has a pink pattern on her chest plate.
"Pretty amazing...So Pearl, what's up?"
Her expression changes into serious "I need to speak with you before we go to that ship."
"Something serious?" He asks her
"It's more..." She tapped her fingers together"History of Homeworld"
"Couldn't hurt"
She then gestured to him to take a sit beside her on the couch. Once he sat down. She ran to another room. One minute went by and she returns with a strange book. On the cover of the book says "History of Gemirians"
"Speaking of them! Do you remember our conversation about your nightmare? I found some interesting thing about it. She lays the book on the table "Open the page 31,"
Steven opened the book and flipped through 31. On the page, it is written "The fall of "Gem Empire" and the rise of new "Diamond Empire"
"Steven, in our history of Gems is divided into two periods: the Imperial one and the Diamond's one. In Imperial, everyone is equal. Gems had the rights of marriage, free time and even can choice to become a warrior or a worker. We only served to our Emperor, no one else. Back then Diamond Authority was just a Homeworld council. And we had an ideology of that we are 100% organic race."
"That sounds cool, Pearl. Gems had a similar system to us in the past. But what happened that Diamond Authority gained the power?"
Pearl gives him another History lesson "In 7010 BC. The second Pink Diamond is known as "Aura Quartz" rebelled against her leader. She believed that Gems are nothing but "war machines" and needs to be in order to conqueror new planets. All members of Authority stood on her side...except Golden Diamond. She joined on Emperor's side. Many Gems started killing each other for their "future leaders". As many battles passed between Royalist's and Authority supporters, it ended badly. Emperor managed to kill Aura Quartz, but rest of Diamonds managed to capture Homeworld. They offered him exchange: If Emperor gave Authority a full power over Empire. He will remain as a leader but will be a puppet to Authority."
"And he accepted that?" Steven raised his eyebrow.
"Yes, The Emperor lost his power and Golden Diamond was killed during the War. The fifth Yellow Diamond that Rose Quartz fought him during our war for Earth became a leader of Homeworld. And that final moment: The Authority became a tyrant that we know and "love". They ceased equality between specific Gems. They forbade marriage, free speech and turned us nothing but ruthless warriors. They believe that we are just "Rocks" to them."
"I feel pity for Gems. They are now like slaves to the Authority." Steven quietly said. He closed his eyes for a moment.
Then he looked at her. "I respect your history lesson. But what it has to do with my nightmare?"
"My point is that the Emperor is similar to the one you described to me." She grabs the book "Take a look."
She then flipped the page and pointed to the picture. It's an image where the Emperor and Golden Diamond are holding their hands and standing with all glory while the rest of Diamonds and some generals are standing behind them.
"He does look like that I had in the nightmare...Impressive, but who are this three gems?"
"They are high command officers in the Empire. That one is Colonel Redstone"
She points to Gem that has one eye on his chrome helmet. Then she pointed to masked Gem that wears a white armor with a cape and hood on it.
"Defender of Gems" Obristan and..."
She then pointed to young Gem that wears green armor.
"And General Cato."
Pearl looks at the picture again. Her face sadness "All of them are a big threat to us, Steven. They have experience of war, skills, tactics, and army." Pearl supported her head with hand "I can't imagine how we will be able to defeat them."
"The sooner or later. We will find out." Steven calmly says
"Are you always that confident or I just forget about it, Steven?"
"Mostly...I just don't want to think about bad stuff. You guys actually taught me to remain positive."
"I understand. But what if it involves with Peridot, Lapis or Connie?"
"What do you mean?" Her words caught him off guard
"Steven, I really sorry if it sounds not like me but I still remember your face when Lapis fused with Jasper. You were in big shock and really angry...and even after the battle, you suffered a big depression. I was afraid that you tried to end your life."
"No, I don't, Pearl. Lapis did a right thing. Because of her, Earth still has a chance"
"That's all?" She whispers, getting worried about Steven's behavior.
"What are you talking about, Pearl?"
"She was your friend, Steven. And she gave you a chance to prepare for the biggest threat. What I trying to say is that..."
She paused for a moment "What you will do if Yellow Diamond will try to hurt your dearest ones?"
Steven takes a deep breath. "I will end her or him. That's my answer to this kind of problem."
Pearl's eyes widen."I never thought-"
"For a love God or...something, stop talking about your drama thing, it's really getting annoying!" Amethyst hissed at Pearl when she approached to fridge for a sandwich.
Pearl growls. She stands up from the couch and turns around to Amethyst. "No, it doesn't!"
"Yes, it does. All you do is moaning about the Homeworld. I bet if somebody will write a story about us. The author probably will hang himself because of your drama!"
Then she starts improvising her. "Oh I'm PEARL, I THE MOST EMOTIONAL GEM IN UNIVER-"
Garnet entered the room and crossed her arms "Enough Amethyst." She casually says.
"Ugh... fine." Amethyst groans and starts eating her sandwich.
Garnet approached Pearl and Steven. "I hope that both of you are ready for the mission," shesays
"We are, Garnet," Steven says
Garnet nodded to Steven "then let's go to the Warp Pad."
Steven stood up from the couch. He about to enter the Warp Pad but he forgot one thing.
"What about Lion?" Steven says
He then turned around to see a Lion. Still sleeping...great.
"Are he's not afraid of the dark and ruined corridors of the ship?" Pearl asks
"A little bit. But for full dark experience...I don't know "
"He probably won't be very helpful with tight corridors." Amethyst points out...logically
"You have a point, Amethyst," Garnet says
Steven looks again to Lion
"Be careful buddy." Steven quietly says.
Lion ignored him. He is still dozing off
"Well...screw you too, buddy." Steven sarcastically says
Pearl laughed a little bit, patting his head "He probably just tired of us, Steven"
Meanwhile on Blue Diamond's warship
Blue diamond is waiting impatiently on his seat and taps his one finger on the console. He is still wearing his blue robe. He noticed that the whole crew looks at him with worried faces. He became angry with their expressions.
"Why all of you staring me like that?!" Blue Diamond asks harshly.
The Crew looked at each other and said nothing. He got up, took his chair and threw it to the captain.
"WHEN WE WILL REACH THE SOL SYSTEM! WHEN!" He yelled at them, showing that he is not impressed by their work.
"My diamond...W-We are currently on Sol System and we orbiting around the planet "Mars." Navigator stutters.
Blue Diamond face palmed himself. "Yeah I forgot... I feel so weak right know." He quietly says
One the officer's computer started making some noises. This sound drives him insane...again.
"What now?" He hissed
"Incoming a message from one of the Carnelian's ships."
"Patch him through."
The interference appears and disappears in ten seconds. On the screen, the Emperor himself showed up.
"Ah...Carnelian himself. What do you want? I busy right to know." Blue says
"Stop this madness Blue. You know that you can't handle them. Let me deal with them personally."
"And why I should give you a chance?"
"Because I have my own reasons."
Blue Diamond began to laugh.
"A-are you seriously think that it will convince me?" Blue Diamond said having little giggles
"Yes...BECAUSE you are too stupid to realize your actions. You shoot White Diamond and you think that you will lead Gem Empire alone on Homeworld?
"Stop saying the nonsense...old man." Blue hissed
Imperial Dreadnought.
"Old man?" Carnelian repeats
"Yes, you are a nothing but a "grandpa"...you always pretend that you have true power over the Empire. But it's a complete lie."
Carnelian smirked, "That "grandpa" will claim his throne back. Too bad you won't see this...because your will be dead by this time."
Then he cut off a connection between him and Blue Diamond. After that. He turned his head to Redstone.
"Let them attack first...then we will strike his ship and deal with the rest of his soldiers"
Colonel Redstone saluted "Of course, my lord."
"And after that, the Homeworld will once again question their leadership. The Authority will pay for their crimes and me once again will become a true leader to Gems. No one will stop us this time."
The Executor's bridge crew stood up from their seats and bowed before him, showing him as respect.
"You always have been the best leader since the Crystallians, my lord." Bridge officer salutes him
"I am glad that my people still have a faith in me."
"We always have, my lord," Navigator says
"Thank you...I will be in my room if all of you wants to say something to me" Carnelians says to them before he left the bridge.
Inside the "Gemirian Executor-class Dreadnought", Carnelian's room
When he entered his room. He went to the desk and opened a drawer where lay a picture of his family. He took it and looked at the picture with sadness. In this photo: he is holding a young Rose Quartz while Golden Diamond hugs young Aura Quartz.
"I'm so sorry my love. I couldn't save you from the Authority."
He placed the picture on the floor. He sat on his knees in front of it. He took a deep breath and starts speaking.
"You stood beside me when I made Crystallians into Gems. We ruled over the Empire, the Authority, and other civilizations. But our own daughter and the Authority rebelled against us...then they executed you in front of me..."
He took from his pocket a Golden shattered gem. "at least your gemstone is still with me."
He looks at it and the to the picture. "But don't worry. Soon I will destroy them, find our grandson and restore my former power. And after that, you can sleep peacefully...my Diamond."
He removed his mask and pressed his lips to Golden Diamond's shattered gem. "May the Creators have a mercy on your soul...my love."
He puts his mask on again. He looks at her lovely face on the picture for the last time "And I promise you, I will bring our grandson back to Homeworld." He stood up and stormed out from the room
