Dib didn’t look up, he just continued doodling small patterns on his work. Zim leaned down and took his chin, tilting his head up. Dib brushed Zim’s hands away with his own… but it was too late. Leaning down, Zim pressed his lips against the human’s in a sign of, what he thought was, hate.
Crimson eyes met fiery golden ones as the human stared at him. Zim smirked against his lips in satisfaction as the human began to push back. Clearly they hated each other…. Still…it send a small feeling into him. One he was confused by. Disappointment. So the human really did hate him. Pulling away, he looked around the silent classroom. Bug-eyed stares met him with almost frightening intensity.
Zim glared at them all. “This is how I feel. Accept it.” Hate. That was what he felt… and now it was out for everyone to see…. Only…. What was The Dib doing? The Dib had grabbed his hand and was roughly pulling him out of the classroom. He glared at him angrily. “What are you doing Dib-human?” He demanded angrily, trying to wrench his hand away and failing as the stronger being pulled him down the hall and around the corner before slamming him against the wall.
He winced at the pain shooting through his back then looked up at the taller human, his eyes wide and confused. Why was The Dib acting this way? Zim had told him many other times that he had hated him in public… why was he choosing to take him to a secluded spot. Why? The Dib was looking at him sternly, an unreadable expression in his golden eyes. “Zim…. Do you have ANY idea of what you just did?”
Zim glared at him, slightly uncertain. “Of course I do Dib-stink! I hate you!”
At the human’s expression he realized he was now not the only one confused. “You hate-… hang on. Zim, dammit you just freaking KISSED me! Do you even know what kissing someone means?!” He turned away angrily and Zim was left to stare at the human’s back, The Dib’s slightly greasy hair falling lavishly over his shoulders. Against his will, he reached out his hand and ran it through the wavy strands. If the human wasn’t so busy chasing after him, he would have had more time to wash it….the filth was all his doing… and he liked the notion of control that gave him.
Dib turned back and slapped his hand away, eyes burning. “You have no idea.” He let out a bitter laugh. “Kissing someone… means you…. It means that you…..“ He seemed unable to say it…. Whatever it was. As if he was in shock at what he had done… why was it so terrible? “Oh just…. whatever. Go away.” He put his hands into the pockets of his jacket and turned. “Go back to class, I’m cutting.” He began to walk down the hall, away from the classroom.
Zim ran up alongside him almost before he realized what he was doing. “Cutting what Dib-human?” He demanded angrily, thoughts of himself on an autopsy table running through his head.
Dib didn’t look at him. “Cutting class, ditching. Not going to class. No one will care anyway.”
Zim glared at him and grabbed his arm, planting his feet firmly in one place. He looked at him intensely as the human turned back with an angry expression on his face. “I would.” He stated. “I notice it when your not in your seating unit.”
“Desk, Zim.” Dib said sighing. He stayed quiet for a second, making Zim’s antenna twitch under his wig in annoyance. Finally he pulled his arm away. “Fine… you can come.”
Zim looked surprised and realized that he really DID want to go with the human. He wanted to see more of the human’s world…. What it was that the humans did…. But the human didn’t seem to want him to come along. Eyes lowered, he shook his head. “I will not burden you. If you do not wish for me to come…. Then I will not.”
The Dib sighed, turning away. “It’s not that I don’t want you along… it’s just that …. It would seem too much like a.. like a date.”
Zim did not understand. “Explain.” He coaxed, feeling slightly relived that the human wasn’t angry with him.
“A date… oh geez how do you explain a date?” Running a hand through his dark hair, obviously a habit, Dib thought out loud, trying to explain it to Zim. “When two people….. Like each other. They go out together to various places…. To get to know each other better.
The words struck Zim hard. To get to know the other better… to ‘go out’. He could see how this would work. To go out together to a certain place would give you something to talk about. It would make it easier for two beings to find common interests….. But….. He had said that it had to be when two people like each other… and he hated The Dib…. Didn’t he?
“Do you think that we….. Could go on one of these ‘dates.’” Heat filled Zim’s face and he brought his hands up, trying to hide it. Was this what Zita was feeling earlier? The sparks in his chest… the heat…. Like fire racing across his soft flesh. But why was he feeling this way? Did he feel…. Affection…. For The Dib?
He turned away as the human turned his golden gaze on him. Affection. Love and hate. So close together… but he hadn’t slipped over the edge… had he? A hand closed around his own and the heat in his face deepened as he was tugged foreword, falling into pace with the human as they walked down the halls. Forget the humans. All he wanted to know right now was the human’s hand around his own, taking him away….
But still… he hated The Dib. He glanced up at the human’s face above his own. He was tall, a feature that he had often despised him for…. On Irk that fact would mean that he held a higher rank. That he had a higher status. He had told himself again and again that The Dib was not Irken and so the same rules didn’t apply to him. But at the same time, he had been questioning how to look at him. He didn’t want to look at him as a human because then he would underestimate him… but if he looked at him as an Irken…. What would he think of him then?
Zim shook his head. No. The Dib was human. He was Irken. Maybe if the human wasn’t a human then he could feel something for him. But with another of a different race…. From a different planet!? No! they were much too different. It was silly just to think of it… still… the feeling of his hand in The Dib’s as they walked out the front doors of the school. On a date…. An experience to get to know someone better… getting to know this human better. He wanted that. He wanted to know. He closed his fingers Dib‘s hand, grasping it with his slender fingers.
He wanted to know The Dib.
