**Age of the Machine part 6**
Opie smashed himself tightly to the side of the aisle in order to let them pass.
“Thanks babe,” Samie said with a big grin on his face as he whizzed by the repair bot.
“Make way you slackers! We got an appointment!” Flame yelled, his engine revving in impatience as he waited for the children to tumble out of their way.
The Prime clone smiled and shook his head in amusement. Even though it had been his idea to get the two together, he’d never thought in a million cycles that it would work out this well! The Sunstreaker clone was in heaven now that he had a dark skinned human who not only treated him with respect, but depended on him for everything. And that was – everything…
After that first night together, Flame had trotted over to Spock and pestered the clone into modifying his alt mode. Now he was the ‘sexiest wheelchair in the world’ according to the amputee. And he happily whizzed the teen around with him from trailer to trailer. He’d then sit the kid up in a chair and happily chat and debate with him on everything beauty related as he worked on each and every human member of the Unit. From hair cutting, to shaving, to giving laser treatment hair removals – Flame was never seen without his man now.
None of the humans seemed to mind though. Since Samie had gotten through his initial depression, he had turned out to be quite the flamboyant gay. And quite proud of it mind you! He was now gaining weight well, and healing even better. Next week he was scheduled to have his amputated arms replaced with modified clone parts. He was looking at a long period of physical therapy – but now he was actually looking forward to it with a positive attitude! After he was finally comfortable with his new arms – they’d perform a similar procedure to give him new legs.
Yes, it had been the perfect pairing between the yellow clone and boy. Perfect in all ways! Opie felt a wash of self satisfaction go over him as he watched them disappear around a sharp corner. Their happy chattering floating back to him….
Lost in his thoughts, the Optimus clone flat walked into another clone. He blinked in surprise and stepped back, automatically making apologies before his meta even registered who it was.
“Don’t worry ‘bout it Opie,” Scream quipped with a grin. His day always went better when he bumped into his secret love. His spark pulsed wildly as it reacted to the Prime clone’s spark field.
Opie’s shoulder plates relaxed as he smiled at his dream. He so wanted to grab the red Seeker and give him a big hug, but he resisted the urge. They still couldn’t be totally open about their feelings… yet…
“So what’s on your meta?” he queried, cocking his helm to the side and giving the timid clone a curious look.
A shy smile crossed the recruit’s face plate. “I, uh, was just thinking about Flame and Samie,” he admitted.
Scream turned and looked in the direction the pair had disappeared. “Yeah, they make a cute couple don’t they?” He turned his warm optics back to the younger clone. “Thanks to a certain repair bot who took a chance that they might hit it off – and introduced them.” He gave Opie a knowing wink.
Opie’s face plate heated up slightly, he wasn’t used to praise. But it was true; he HAD been the only one to see the potential. “So, um, when you gonna be off shift?” he asked in a hopeful tone. The Seeker would always end up in the recruit’s trailer. Hanging out with them all and watching movies late into the off shift. Opie was lucky enough to always find a spot next to the clone, so he could touch him and enjoy his spark field flowing over him…
A frown furrowed his handsome face plate. “Got a strategy meeting tonight. I’ll be stuck there for freagin’ forever!” he sighed and rolled his optics. Giving his buddy a pat on his shoulder armor, the Seeker shot him their ‘private look’. “Guess you’ll have to snuggle with FeFe tonight. Just leave some room for me to sneak into later.”
Opie couldn’t hide the fact that he was a little saddened. “Sure thing Scream,” he said. Well, at least he’d activate with the beauty pressed up against him. It was better than him not being there….
Scream’s digits drifted along Opie’s arm as he strode past him, the electricity jumping between them. He hated not being off duty at the same time as Opie, but it couldn’t be helped. He was an officer…. He had responsibilities…
-------
Jag’s optics never left Scream throughout the entire meeting. He stood silently between Daniel and Darren, listening to the planned movements for the Unit – but not really paying much attention to it. He didn’t need to. He commanded the security detail. So all he had to worry about was making sure they were well guarded every time they stopped for bad weather or for rest.
His meta was on other issues right now. He needed to get Scream alone. Darren had recommended that he try apologizing about the way he’d broken up with the Seeker. About laying out all his failures of judgment on the table and then begging Scream to forgive him. After he’d gotten the forgiveness, Darren had told him to first try to become friends with his ex again. Then he could slowly work his way back from that point…
The meeting ended, somewhat surprising the preoccupied cop clone. He startled for a second, not quite sure what to do or say. Fortunately, Darren saved his tail pipes.
“Hey Scream?” the old Marine said.
The Seeker stopped and turned around, the others pushing past him as they left. “Yeah Darren?”
Darren nodded towards the Prowl clone next to him. “Jag was telling me about some issues he’s been having with a certain recruit. Told him to talk it over with you.”
“Really Jag, which one?” Scream wandered back to the table, and stood there with an expectant look on his face plate. Because of his close ties with the recruits during the off shift hours, it did make sense for anyone having problems with one to come to him for advice.
“Muffin,” Darren answered quickly for Jag. He glanced from clone-to-clone as he started to leave, as if realizing that they might not want to be alone together. “You boys cool now – or should I stay?” he offered.
“No sir, we’ll be fine,” Jag replied in a steady tone. He would make sure to thank the man later for this opportunity!
“Ok, see ya during defrag shift,” Darren said in a cheerful tone. “Oh, and don’t worry, Groove’s gonna be gone giving some of the men some dancing lessons in rec trailer.” He gave Jag a knowing wink as he left and closed the door behind him.
“Jazz clone still giving you two cops a meta ache?” Scream teased.
With a slight roll of his optics, Jag nodded. It was so strange to be alone with Scream like this. He wanted to grab the clone and kiss him all over… Beg him to forgive him and take him back.. But he couldn’t. Life had become very, very complicated for the Seeker as of late. And Jag was afraid if he tried that tact – he’d be thrown by the wayside without another chance in hell to get the Seeker back.
Leaning on the table, Scream gave the cop an expectant look. “So what’s up with Muffin?” he asked. As far as he knew, the Red Alert clone was working himself into a frenzy to impress the Security chief. All he ever talked about was security. The poor guy was totally a workaholic. Jag should just LOVE him!
Jag sighed, buying a little time while his meta worked in overdrive to come up with something to say. He wasn’t a good liar, so he figured he’d discuss the clone’s advancement into the enlisted forces. “He doesn’t like surprises. I’m afraid he might blow a diode when we tell him he’s passed.”
Scream beamed in joy. Reaching across the table, he bumped the stoic officer with his fist. “Really?!? He really passed your overachiever requirements?!? Oh god – THAT’S GREAT!!!”
“Yes.” Jag watched the happy Seeker’s optics as they gleamed. Geese, he was so gorgeous when he was thrilled! It seemed like a good time to start on the whole beg for forgiveness routine. “And there’s something else I need to discuss with you.”
“Fire away. God I can’t wait to tell Muffin! You don’t mind if I do – do you? Course not,” Scream rambled on. He couldn’t wait to find the paranoid recruit. Not to mention the fact that Inferno would be thrilled now that he’d made enlisted! The ant mech could now officially date the clone…
The Prowl clone grabbed Scream’s hand before he pulled it back across the table. “It’s about me Scream.” His voice became suddenly low and serious.
“What about you?” Scream narrowed his optics as he met his ex’s. Was the clone getting married or something? He had been hanging out with Darren, Steel and Groove since they’d broke up.
“Well, after helping you with the guilty recruits, I,” Jag paused for a moment, collecting himself. “I realize how wrong I was…” He looked down in shame, allowing tears of remorse to fill his optics. “To have judged you so harshly.” He looked back up, meeting Scream’s shocked red orbs. “I hope you can … find it in your spark… to forgive me.”
His mouth hung open in shock. It was a rare occasion that Scream couldn’t find the right words to say what he wanted to say, and this was one of those occasions. He had finally gotten over Jag. Finally found a young recruit to fill that hole in his spark.
…. Or so he had thought….
The look of total remorse on Jag’s handsome face plate as he begged to be forgiven for throwing Scream’s spark away – brought those old feelings roaring back to the surface. This was Jag. The every loyal Prowl clone, who had held him night-after-night as he screamed in terror as the memory echoes swallowed him. The clone who’d saved himself for him – and only him. Who’d only asked one thing of Scream. The one thing Scream couldn’t give….
Jag saw the conflicting emotions flying over Scream’s face plate. Now he knew there was something still there… Some old ember that he might eventually be able to blow into a flame once more…. He moved around the table to stand optic-to-optic with the clone, and set his hands on his intakes. “Look, I know how much I hurt you Scream. And it’s all my fault. I understand what you need now. I understand YOU now.” He dared to stroke the speechless Seeker’s cheek. “I just want to know if… Well… If we can be friends again?” he asked hopefully.
Scream ground his dental plates together, his emotions conflicting…. His systems reacting to that gentle and familiar touch… His meta screaming for him to curl his arms around him… Beg him to come back.. To feel that security during defrag again.. But his spark ached for Opie. His sense of responsibility told him that he owed Charge and Doc… “I, uh, guess…” he stammered.
The Prowl clone gave him a friendly hug, and then walked to the door. “Thanks Scream.” He gave him a knowing smile. “I’ll add the recruit trailer to my nightly rounds. Ensure your safe.” He left Scream then, knowing that the Seeker was totally confused now. But through that confusion, he had a chance. It meant that ember was still within the Seeker… He’d just have to slowly add fuel to the fire…
Scream stood there for a few minutes. His meta trying to sort out everything that had just transpired. He’d seen the love in Jag’s optics again. Knew without a doubt that the Prowl clone had truly realized his error…. But how could he feel for the clone anymore?!? He had Opie waiting for him. Had given the youngster his oath…
His wings drooping unhappily, the confused clone stumbled towards the recruit trailer.
-----
“Just keepin’ your spot warm,” Beavis joked as he saw Scream slide in the door. The Hotrod clone stood up and moved to another spot, leaving the Seeker a spot with Opie on one side and Inferno (with Muffin in his lap as usual) on the other.
Unnaturally quiet, the Seeker simply nodded and plopped himself down in his customary position. Opie beaming happily up at him as the youngster lay his helm down across his thighs.
“I’m glad you got out of that meeting early,” he whispered. His spark field swelled, softly caressing Scream’s without even bonding. They’d realized they could do this a while back. It was unique… Unusual… Extraordinary! In a sense, they could spark bond without physically touching sparks.
Scream nodded his face plate still in an unhappy frown. The normally relaxing flow of spark energy over him, made him even more confused…
“You ok?” Opie whispered in a worried voice. He could feel Scream’s confusion and angst through their spark energy bond. He’d never felt the Seeker in this kind of emotional state!
He couldn’t handle it any longer! Standing up, Scream apologized for interrupting the movie and just about ran out of the recruit trailer. Putting a hand above his face plate to block the pelting hail a bit, he made a bee-line towards the one place, the one human, who could tell him what to do about this dilemma…….
-------
“Shhhh Bond, relax,” Sharon whispered. Taking his lips again, she wrapped her arms around the trembling clone, soothing the terrified thing.
“B-But ….” He wanted to slam his legs back together. He didn’t like this warm fuzzy feeling. It felt like he was going to lose control! He didn’t want to lose control. Something might happen to him while he was knocked out. He might get broken or glitched or something even worse…
The older woman slipped the tip of a finger inside his forward port, soothing him as he trembled in fear again. The poor thing was afraid of everything! And TC wasn’t helping much. The blue Seeker was still moping around playing the ‘poor me’ drama queen act. She’d actually ordered him out and told him to visit his cousin clone for the night. Let Daniel handle the headache for a night, while she tried to work Bond through his fear of feeling ‘good’ and overloading.
Lubricant began to fill his port in response to her gentle touch. Yet the purple Seeker was petrified in terror. He didn’t want to overload again. It was… It was uncontrollable! Something might happen to him! He moaned into her mouth as her tongue commanded his glossa. He couldn’t do this… But he couldn’t stop! It was so confusing!
A knock on their privacy panel interrupted them. Pulling her lips from his, Sharon laid a finger over his lips. “Don’t worry we’ll finish this in a second,” she promised.
Bond cringed, not daring to move, but wishing she’d remove that finger that was still inside him. Or did he want her to leave it there? Geese – it was just too confusing…
“Yes?” she said as she slid the panel open a hair.
“You busy?” Scream’s voice whispered.
Bond yelped in happiness. Completely forgetting his confusion about whether to move or not, he just about flew over Sharon to open the panel. “Nope Dad. Come on in!”
“Geese, quit calling me that!” the red Seeker whispered as he slid in and closed the panel behind him. The purple Seeker completely ignored his words, curling himself around him and peering very happily at Sharon.
Sitting up, the woman gave an exacerbated sigh. Bond was impossible! She stared at the scaredy cat clone now curled happily around Scream, wondering just how in the hell she could work him through his fear of intimacy. Then she glanced at Scream’s face plate and saw the stains from tears. Her attention solely focused on Scream then. “What’s wrong Scream?” she asked, holding out her arms for him.
Peeling Bond off of him, the red Seeker fell into his adopted mom’s arms. He wept as he told her about everything…. EVERYTHING!!! His feelings for Opie, for Jag… His responsibility to Charge and Doc….
Sharon listened for a long time, getting a clear picture of Scream’s complex issue. Finally, the Seeker stopped talking and whispered the expected words ‘Tell me what to do Sharon…’
She stroked his intake as she considered it all. It was very, very complex! His red optics gleamed up at her, full of trust that she would know exactly how to ‘fix’ the problems he had. “Well Scream, do you think you still love Jag?”
“I… Uh… Well… I felt this old ache… like emptiness… Like I wanted to grab him.. hold him like we used to…” Scream’s digits curled around one of her arms. He didn’t really know how he actually felt, it was so confusing…
“And Opie? You truly haven’t even felt desire for anyone else since you rescued him?” This was an important breakthrough for the interface addicted Seeker. If he could actually be monogamous – it meant he was almost healed inside!
Scream met her eyes, his optics full of honesty. “Yes,” he replied in a sure tone.
“You know Opie might have the same problem that you did. If you take him as your mate – how will you handle it if he cheats like you did to Jag?” Sharon looked down at him, her eyes soft and understanding…
He thought about it long and hard. “No, Opie would ask me first.”
“Jag thought you would. But when put in a situation – you couldn’t ask first, you just acted. How will you feel if Opie does the same?” she pressed.
Scream gnawed on his dental plates. He honestly didn’t think Opie would ever willingly slag anyone else – but the clone had admitted to the same interface addiction that he had. “I, well, I’ll just understand,” he finally said.
“But it’ll hurt very deeply, won’t it?”
“Yeah, guess so…” Scream muttered. He didn’t want to think about potential events that would never happen.
“And what about your memory echoes? What about Opie’s memory echoes? How do you two handle those together?”
A vision of him and Opie fearfully curled in the corner of their bunk came to mind. It had happened on more occasions than he cared to admit. “We just deal with them,” he mumbled.
“You were almost over those with Jag, weren’t you?” she stated, more than asked.
“Well, yeah. But that was different.” He shifted, a little uncomfortable about where this might be headed.
“You also don’t have those much when you defrag with Charge either.”
“Yeah, but what does that have to do with this?” he demanded to know. She knew he wasn’t intending to stay with Charge. Heck, the clone was in love with Doc, not him – everyone knew that. It’d be an easy and amiable breakup. They’d agree to stay close friends and raise the sparkling. They just weren’t in love… Never had been…
Sharon forced him to look up at her again. “I’m just pointing out that you’ve always needed to feel a sense of security. You’ve gotten that from having relationships with emotionally strong clones.” She caressed his face plate with a gentle finger. “While you have a strong spark bond already with Opie, neither one of you is emotionally strong.”
“But we LOVE each other! We’ve given oaths!” Scream cried. He felt Bond press against him, the scaredy cat clone being affected by his emotions.
“I KNOW that Scream. But lots of mentally ill people also fall in love because they understand each other. It ends up becoming a mess. You both have an emptiness, a need, that neither of you can fill.” She continued to stroke his wing gently with her other hand, comforting him.
“But we’ll figure out how to help each other!” he emphatically said.
“Scream, I just want you to think long and hard about this. Jag’s laid out the olive branch to you. Maybe you should consider taking it? Maybe he’d eventually be willing to take care of BOTH you and Opie? – or – you still have Charge. He’s loyal, even if he’s in love with Doc. He’ll take care of you. He’s shown that he will.” she explained in a soft voice. Bending down, she kissed his helm. “I want what’s best for you Scream, for you and Opie.” She laid a hand on his shielded cockpit. “You’ve already accepted the fact that you have to wait until after the little one is born. Use this time to make your decision carefully. It will affect him as well.”
Scream gnawed on his lower lip. Like always, Sharon was right, he needed time to think about all his options. But at least now they were a little more clear to him. He smiled up at her, and then sat up and gave her a hug. “Thanks Sharon,” he whispered and gave her a gentle peck.
“Good, now you can help me with my problem,” she said, keeping a hand on the panel so that he couldn’t slide it open.
“What’s that?”
She nodded towards Bond, “He’s afraid that overloading will cause him to glitch.”
“It will! I’m sure of it dad!” Bond said as he frantically nodded his head.
With an ironic grin, Scream shrugged. “But I’m not into playing around any more.”
Sharon chuckled, “I’m not asking you to slag him Scream, just lie down, hold him and convince him it’s safe. I’ll do the rest.”
“Oh, I can do that,” Scream said with a mischievous grin. Scooting around, he laid down with his retracted wings against the wall. Patting the bunk next to him, he beckoned the hesitant scaredy cat ‘son’ of his to lie down next to him. Nuzzling the clone’s sensitive neck, he ran his digits gently along his retracted wings, whispering words of encouragement and comfort to the nervous Seeker.
Now that Bond was actually being still, Sharon worked her way down his air frame. Her experienced fingers knowing just where to touch… How to touch… She stroked him into a fury of trembling moans… Until he went limp between them…
“He doesn’t last long, does he?” Scream quipped.
“None of you do at first,” Sharon chuckled. “Mind staying the night? I’m far from done with him.”
“Naw, I like watching you and another Seeker – remember?” Sliding his hand across the still purple air frame, Scream playfully pinched Sharon’s ass. “You are gonna get naked sooner or later – right? You know, make it worth my while. Like a live flick.”
“Scream, you are still a mess,” she teased as she slapped his digits away.
“I’m only a mess that likes to watch. Don’t want to join in anymore,” he replied with a sly grin.
“That’s a definite improvement,” she said as she began to tickle him a little..
