Marinette shivered as Gabriel pressed a gentle kiss to her palm, Blue boring into her very soul. Dear God, He actually liked her too didn’t he? She was so young and maybe it wasn’t a good thing because she knew how protective he could get. But, he knew she was ladybug and could hold her own and she knew he was Hawk Moth and could hold his own.
How would he react if he knew Adrien was Chat Noir? Not that she knew one hundred percent, she suspected it though, and as much as she had adored Adrien...Gabriel had stolen her heart, because as powerful as he was, he also had a softer side. He’d been so kind to her, it could have been because she was friends with Adrien...Or had been. It seemed like Adrien sided with everyone else.
Butterflies were beautiful and as drenched in darkness as Gabriel had been...His wife had tricked him or maybe he’d known what she was doing to him? Manipulating him to fix what she’d broken on her own? Marinette wanted to tell him she’d accidentally found Emilie’s diary. It had been hidden in a secret compartment in the guest room she’d gone to one night when it was late for her to be walking around outside and the driver was already gone.
She’d fallen and knocked a plate out of a delicate-looking vase, the journal just visible from the floor. She’d hidden it in her bag afraid and stupid, that Journal was the reason she knew personal things about Gabriel...It was the reason she was in love with him. Emilie had been in love with him, but as the journal progressed...It had felt like she was letting go of her feelings and sanity.
“I’m sure your friends are worried about you.” And he completely ruined the moment. She snorted, very certain that was not the case.
“They said I should take them off. The butterflies, I told them no. I wanted to wear them because I, unlike them, knew who HawkMoth was and I wanted a piece of him with me tonight. Though I didn’t expect you to actually be here tonight.” He smirked, eyes bright with mirth and she was really in love with the villain wasn't she?“I didn’t expect to be here either, I’ve only got ten minutes before my replacement comes to take my spot chaperoning young impressionable minds.” She giggled because here he was with one of those ‘young minds’ flirting with her. She hadn’t realized it at first, but to compare her to something that people say is beautiful? Wasn’t that like him calling her beautiful too and he had admitted to having a crush on her!
