Chapter 4: The Crystal Gems And Steven
8, June 2017 AD, 6.29 AM (Earth's time)
Earth, Beach city
It's been five years since they fought with Jasper and stopped the Cluster. Since the day it happened. Steven's life has dramatically changed. He became quite serious about the mission and began to cope with tasks. He also becomes a pretty smart man thanks for "Pearl's life lessons" or something like that. As the years went by, he lost his extra weight during the workouts and training; it made him quite very thin comparing from the younger age. At the start. It upset him but Pearl told him that makes him even stronger and faster...and Connie mentioned that he looks more handsome with thin body build.
Although he has changed. The situation on the Earth didn't change that much for 5 years. When the countries of Earth have learned about the alien race which claims their home planet, the great panic began. Almost all world countries joined NATO Space Programm and appointed the military situation in some regions.
Fearing an alien invasion: The Europe took the reform on the creation of a unified country called "The European Union". China and Russia formed the Asian Union and the U.S.A announced the closure of the borders. But life in Beach city has not changed after that, people are happy in here...but for how long? Steven doesn't know the answer to this kind of question.
Steven feels weird for these days. About two weeks ago he started to get up early every day and went outside to watch the sunrise. Gems concerned about his behavior, maybe he just worrying about something. But hey, at least its summer... and Steven loves this time of year. When children don't need to go to school and can do what they want. Although he's not a child anymore, he still remembers how well he spent his childhood pretty fun and good.
But his thoughts were interrupted when some children approached him "Hey mister, where is Funland that everyone is talking about?" A small child asked him
Steven points his finger to the direction "On the corner right next to the beach. You won't miss it."
"Thank you, mister." He said politely.
He and his friends are about to leave when Steven realized something. "You are too early, it's..." He looks at his watch "It's only 6.31 AM. It will open at 10.00 AM"
"Ah...It's okay," Kid smiled " I just don't want to see my mother right know...so I decided to go early with my friends."
"And why you don't want to see you mother right to know?" Steven said with his "teacher tone".
"She accused of what I didn't do it!" Kid growled, "Ughh I sometimes wish that I don't have a mother."
Steven feels an anger and little bit sadness at the same time. Reminding that he never saw his own mother in his life. "Why do you think so, she gave your life, home and everything you have and you say such things. You at least have any respect for parents?"
The kid becomes furious "Screw you mister! You're not the boss of me and you have no right to have an opinion about my life. If I want I will get! And your whining nobody cares. Have a good day!"
Then the band of children went away, leaving angry Steven sitting on a bench. "Damn generation: always thinks that they are gods on this planet." Steven sighed.
"It's that what makes them humans, Steven." Said sweet familiar voice.
Steven turned around to see who is talking. It's a Pearl, a good old friend and "sister" to him. She and rest of his friends didn't change much. She is with her small purse right know...huh
"Hey Pearl, I thought you still sleeping," Steven said with a smile on his face.
Pearl crossed her arms and made "mother that is about to punish his son" face. "I was about to ask the same thing." She said strictly
"I just decided to watch the sunset, Pearl. I am not 12 years old anymore, I can handle myself." Steven snarled at her, sometimes he gets tired of Pearl's motherly instinct.
"At least you would tell me, I must know," Pearl said emotionally.
"Why? So that you will take my hand and babysit me here and there? He sarcastically asked her
"At least we could find you in the case of the very bad situation. Steven" Pearl is again in her old "repertoire"
"Pearl, I know the route to the temple. I have some fight experience." Steven hissed a little bit at her.
"I know, but you can always count on Garnet, Amethyst and Me. You are not alone." Pearl said with sweet tone, laying her hand on his knee.
"I understand. But I just want to be alone" he sat on the bench dropped his head on his knees "Right known at least."
Pearl got worried by Steven's strange behavior. She sat beside him and took his hand to calm him down. "Steven..." He raised his head and looked at her. "Tell me about your problem...Your Pearl can help...if you want." She whispers
Steven closed his eyes and growled. "It's Lapis!" he said aloud
"What about her?" Pearl covered her mouth to prepare herself for his problems.
"What about her?" He repeats her words "Five years passed and she is still fused with Jasper. Every time: I reminding myself that she exist. I fell guiltiness...I was here and I could do anything to prevent that...But I didn't"
Pearl patted his shoulder "Back then: you were only 14 years old. You still were not ready for serious missions. But now you're 19 years old. You're highly trained. I promise that we will bring her back. I understand your feelings...and I really want to make you happy."
Her words brought Steven a little bit happiness to him. "Thank you, Pearl. There is one more thing"
"Which is?" She checked her bag quickly.
"Last week. I have a nightmare. That one looked like it was real.
Pearl got confused by his words. "Nightmare?"
Steven looked at the sun "In front of me standing a tall Gem...The same height as you and me...he is holding a sword...on this sword, it says something on unknown language to me. He is wearing some kind of dark crystal made armor. His dark hood and silver mask covers his face. His dark eyes just like mines are watching me...with full anger."
"A tall dark Gem with a hood and mask on him?" she repeated to herself, trying to remind herself "As far I know. We never saw that kind of gem during a war with Homeworld. I will try to find more information about it"
"But Pearl...it might be-"
"Steven...I will find more information. It's sounds very dangerous but right know at least...you don't have to be worry about it." She stroked his hair.
The tenderness of her fingers made Steven comfortable for him. He relaxed and released a deep breath. Pearl smiled "Everything will be fine. Do you remember who we are?" She got up and started to sing "WE ARE THE CRYSTAL GEMS-"
Steven chuckled, "-And we will always save the day...yeah I remember that song...always stuck in my head."
Pearl sat on the bench giggled a little bit. "Good times.." She whispered.
"Good old times indeed..." He becomes sad "Now I'm not that funny, silly and a little running pork Steven that always trying ran up to battle without any thoughts."
"Steven, you are growing older and it's normal for human's nature. Some of your traits are changing, some are not. Remember the time that we have an argument about leadership and strength?"
"Where I said that true leader needs muscles?" He asks her
"Yeah... and today your opinion is?"
"50/50 I must say. Sometimes its needs a charisma, sometimes a brutal force can help."
"See... I knew that someday you will change in a good way...and you did." A blue blush appears on her face "From bright-eyed boy to a young handsome man who will fight at any cost. You becoming just like Rose. I'm not talking like a nanny to you or anyone else but as a friend." A more of her blue shade of Blush appeared "If I was a human and a "woman". I wouldn't mind having an affair with a guy like you."
Steven smirked, "Is this an offer to me?"
It made her blush even more. She starts looking for every direction for good answer "NO...I-I mean yes that...uhh Steven, I would like to...but I'm not ready for another relationship route. And besides, I thought that you and Connie...you know " Pearl drew her face even closer to him and whispered, "Are partners."
Steven smiled again "Pearl... I'm just joking. I just find it funny that if you would be human, you would be a date with me...Peridot mentioned the same thing."
Pearl whimpered little bit "Really?"
"Yep...she even tried to flirt with me during my 19 birthday... saying that I'm can be her "Master" for a day."
"That little green gnome is trying to steal my baby from me...I will find her...and tear her apart." She whispered to herself
Steven raised his eyebrow "What did you just say?"
Pearl starts nervously shaking "Nothing Steven... just thinking...some stuff."
"I heard diffre-"
"You didn't answer me about You and Connie." She changed the subject without Steven's noticing.
"Oh yeah, sorry... anyway I just a friend to Connie...nothing more."
"But I, Though-"
"I had a disagreement with her family. Her parents disapprove our romantic interest. It's because Connie wanted to become an official Crystal Gem. But they didn't like that. They said that it makes her in danger and...you know why"
"I understand, Steven...She deserves a better life rather than fighting with Homeworld. Speaking of her, where is she?...I didn't see her for like two weeks or more."
"You don't know?...Oxford University invited her to become a student...and she accepted it... She also wants to give you this message."
Steven gave her a letter which was written by Connie. Pearl began to read it.
Dear Crystal Gems
I just want to say that I appreciated my time with you, guys. It never was a boring with you. You always had been very helpful, Generous and kind to me.
You probably already know that I went to Oxford. I'm so sorry that I didn't mention to you personally...but when I finish the university I will return to you Gems and help at any cost...I promise.

a small tear came down from the Pearl's face. You okay? Steven notices her.
"Don't worry, it's just your Pearl...overreacting at everything." She wiped her tears off "I will miss our training with her"
"Yeah...But let's just forget about everything and enjoy the view...okay?" Steven looked at the dawn of the sun. "It is beautiful, isn't it?"
"Yeah it is...Rose always loved the sunrise" She then pulled a book from her small bag and began to read. The cover of the book caught his eye. "Uhh, Pearl...what are you reading?"
"You like it?" She surprised. "Amethyst suggested to read that book...funny is isn't?"
"Amethyst suggested you? How-" He wide opened his eyes as soon as he realized Amethyst's methods. "Pearl... hat's the name of this book?"
It's Fifty shades-" She begins.
"FIFTY SHADES OF GRAY?" Steven quickly got up, took her book and threw it away as far possible to the ocean.
"Steven, what in Stars you did that for! I didn't finish it!" She got up from the bench and turned her back to him. Showing him that she is a disappointment to him.
"IT FOR YOUR OWN SAKE PEARL...THIS ABOMINATION CAN'T EXIST ON THIS PLANET!"
Pearl turned around to him with the confused face "What are you talking about? Amethyst said that this a book contains some decent story and romantic scenes."
Steven's face palmed "For the love of God, Pearl. You believe in someone you hate the most. That book contains erotic scenes and bad story...there nothing special about this book."
"And again...you fell for it," Some said behind them.
Both Steven and Pearl turned to see grinning Amethyst. It turns out that she was standing all this time behind them while they yelled at each other. "Amethyst...Why have you lied to me?!"
"Oh you know...for a lot of reasons...let see...hm...nope...Naah...no that one...OH, I KNOW!: It JUST A PRANK SISTER!"
Pearl growled at her "WHY YOU!"
Then they started arguing and shouting to each other. Pearl is making "angry bird sounds" while Amethyst improvising Pearl with her hand.
Steven just decided to ignore them and sat back on the bench to at least ignore their screaming.
Suddenly his phone starts to ring... He quickly pulled his phone out of his pocket and answered the incoming call.
"Hello?"
"Steven...it's me, Sadie.
"Hey, Sadie. How-"
"Steven. Me and Lars decided to use the new telescope that he bought and you won't believe what we saw...Garnet with us ...I can give my phone to her if you want."
"Do it, Sadie." Steven waited five seconds for Garnet's voice
"Steven" Garnet's voice ringed to him
"Garnet, what is going on?"
"No time to explain, Steven. Return to the temple...and don't forget to bring Amethyst and Pearl with you."
"Alright, will do." He ended his call and turned to Pearl and Amethyst who are still...yeah.
"Both you stop; Sadie called us, saying that they saw something."
Both Amethyst and Pearl stopped and looked at him. "Are you sure it not another a "joke"? Pearl glared at Amethyst again. In response: Amethyst showed her tongue to Pearl.
"Garnet already confirmed that it is something serious."
"Fine...Let's go to the Temple then..." but with you" She pointed her finger to Amethyst "I will deal with you later."
Pearl stormed out from them.
"Trust me, she will not." Amethyst comments
Steven chuckles "Good for you, Amethyst. Good for you"
Outside the Crystal Gems Temple.
"I already told you, Garnet. We accidentally find that thing floating in the sky." Sadie shrugged her shoulders.
"I understand, But did you saw any other ships?" Garnet says
"No...Only that one." Lars hisses
"Strange...if that thing orbits about 7000 thousand years, why we didn't saw it earlier?" She is observing trough the telescope
"I have a bad feeling about this." Greg strokes his beard.
They stopped their discussion when Amethyst and Steven arrived at the temple.
"Dad...Sadie...Garnet...please somebody explain to me, what is it going on?"
"Son...you should see by yourself." Greg pointed to the telescope.

Pearl let him use it. Steven went to the telescope and looked through the lens. He saw something incredible. A half destroyed ship floats around the orbit.
"It's...It's a ship." Steven said with the curious tone.
"Not just a ship...but your mother's one." Greg corrects him.
"Rose.." Pearl closed her eyes for a moment.
"And ship's warp pad somehow is still working." Garnet crossed her arms
"What do you mean?" Steven asks
"We can link to ship's warp pad, and with that that we can safely teleport." Pearl looked at the sky.
"Are you suggesting to investigate that ship?" Steven says with worried voice
"Indeed, We have a chance that we'll find something that could help us against Homeworld. As I remembered. We had some documents about specific Gem's inside this ship."
"Maybe it just a trap...prepared by The Diamond Authority," Steven gives his version
"If is it true, then we face it together...as Crystal Gems." Garnet patted Steven's shoulder.
"Yeah, bro. We always are with you, no matter what will happen." Amethyst friendly punched him to his leg
"Okay, guys... I will tell you when I'm ready."
Both Amethyst and Garnet went inside to the house, leaving Lars, Sadie and Greg with Steven.
"Thank you for your time, Sadie and Lars."
"Yeah...just don't bring an army of aliens...okay?" With that, he left them.
"Idiot, always with no respect." Sadie crossed his arms
"It Lars...An asshole in past. An asshole in today...he always likes that."
Sadie chuckled "True...good luck Steven...and try not to bring alien friends"
"No promises, Sadie." He joked.
She went to Beach City, leaving Steven and Greg alone.
"I sometimes wish that you never born as half gem and half human," Greg says
"I feel the same. Sometimes I just want to throw my gem out of my body and live a normal life." Steven whimpers
"It's your destiny now, Steven. And I have to accept that..." He takes a deep breath "I just want to say that...I am proud of you. For five years, you become a "shield of humanity". Your mother would be so proud, knowing that you will continue her ideas of freedom."
"I know father...I know...I promise that one day I will stop Homeworld and the tyranny of Gems."
"Then good luck son...and be careful. I don't want to lose you...just like Rose"
"I will try" He smiled as he went to inside.

Homeworld's System.
In deep space. A 19.000 meters long "Gemirian Executor-class Dreadnought" accompanied by two small Gem warships is slowly moving from the Homeworld's system.
Inside the Imperial Dreadnought.
Inside the bridge. A crew consists of 200 Gems is doing their job to keep this massive ship in full glory. Colonel Redstone looks at the space from his seat. Then he heard the sound of elevator reached to the bridge. He got up from his seat to greet the important Gem on this ship.
The elevators doors open and Carnelian himself entered the ship. All crew and Redstone saluted to him. Carnelian approached to the navigator who typing on his computer station.
"Status," Carnelian says to Navigator
"My lord, we intercepted the message of Blue Diamond's high command. He plans to attack the ship when the target is on the command bridge...and he plans to kill him." Navigator replies
"I should not be surprised by that. He is too stupid to plan his tactics more detailed." Carnelian calmly says
He turned to the Colonel. "Redstone, prepare you best soldiers. Your objective is to eliminate Blue Diamond's forces in the ship. If you see a Crystal Gems. Don't try to kill them. I need them alive. If you succeed then...you will become the new leader of Grand army of future Empire."
"But what about Blue Diamond, my Lord? He is one who is going to attack that ship. And besides: why wouldn't we just let him kill them and after that we strike him?"
"I won't let him kill that boy, Redstone. He needs to be alive. I've already lost Golden Diamond, Aura Quartz, and Rose Quartz. I just..." He looks at the window "I just don't want to lose another one."
"What's so important about this boy, my Lord?" One of his crew members asks him
Their leader turned to the rest of the crew "Because he is my legacy...and he's my grandson, whom I never saw with my own eyes." Carnelian replied before he stormed out from the Ship's control tower.
