Strawberry started off in a hurry, but gradually she slowed down and finally stopped completely. She looked out at the open grasslands, a mixture of gold and shadows as the sun shone between the candy-colored hills. The birds were singing happily in the trees, and she watched a few as they took flight in search of breakfast. Soon she found herself looking up at the sapphire blue sky. A single puffy cloud floated above, and as she stared at it she could see only Custard's sad face, slowly turning away from her. Could such a beautiful day really be the worst day of my life?
Tears quickly filled her eyes and she continued towards home, singing softly:
When I was young and all alone
I got a best friend all my own
The best friend I've ever known
How did our troubles even start?
I can't believe we'd drift apart
So are you gonna
Break
My
Heart
So many years and we've both grown
You know I love the love you've shown
But you're not something that I own
Tell me Custard, I have to know
Do you really want to go?
Oh my dearest please say "no"
Or you're gonna
Break
My
Heart
Maybe we'll talk on the phone
Even if it's in a strained tone
Or maybe I can make a clone
Please,
Oh pretty please
(...tuna fish supplex...)
Just don't
Break
My
Heart
On the way home she stopped by a brook and splashed some water on her face. She wiped it off with her sleeve and then stared down at her sad reflection, which then disappeared in a ripple as a final teardrop hit the water.
When Strawberry got to her front door she quietly went inside. Custard woke with a start as soon as the door opened. The cat was surprised that she'd even managed to fall asleep, but that quickly gave way to dread.
The redhead simply sat down on the couch and looked straight ahead, desperately holding back her emotions.
Custard jumped up on the couch and gently shook the girl's knee with her paw. "Strawberry? Are you all right?"
"I just had a long talk with Angel Cake..." Then she cleared her throat.
After a heavy sigh Custard asked, "I figured. Did she tell you?"
"About her being sick, yes," Strawberry whispered.
"Oh..." Custard trembled and then looked up at the redhead's blank face to ask, "And anything else?"
"Everything!" the girl yelped before dropping her face into her hands and bawling her eyes out.
The cat stood up and tried to hug her as she tearfully responded, "I'm so sorry, Strawberry! I never meant to hurt your feelings. Honest! That's the last thing I ever wanted!"
Strawberry turned and hugged Custard tightly, and the kitty hugged back so hard that her claws scraped the girl's clothes. They two stayed like that, crying and hugging for the longest time. Their weeping even woke up Pupcake. He softly walked over to the couch before climbing up and licking Strawberry's face a few times. Then he lied down beside her with his chin on her lap.
When the redhead could speak again she turned to Custard and held her out so they could see face-to-face. An occasional whine slipped out along with her shaky words, "It's okay Custard, I understand," she sniffled. But then she let out a pained whine and cried out, "No, I don't understand! I don't understand it at all and I don't want to!" She again pulled her kitty closer, soaking her fur with tears. "Maybe I just haven't been giving you enough attention. Or maybe Angel Cake just needs you more. I don't know. But whatever it is, if you want to leave me I won't stop you."
"Leave! What do you mean, leave?" Custard gasped. "Why would I ever want to leave you!"
Strawberry shuddered then pulled back to wipe her eyes. "You mean... you don't want to go live with Angel Cake?"
"No! Not at all! Not one bit!" Custard clutched her owner's upper arms so tightly that she actually did claw her skin. "No, Strawberry, I'd never leave you. I love you more than anything else in the whole entire world, and..." Custard struggled to pull one paw free and then covered her eyes as they released a torrent. "... and the thought of not being with you hurts me so much that I could just die. I love you so much I even wish..." She stopped herself short and the two again hugged tightly, the redhead nearly crushing the cat who was clutching her back with all four paws.
It took a while before they could quiet themselves and loosen their grips. Custard curled up in Strawberry's lap as the girl petted her. Pupcake looked up at the cat and let out a short whine. "Don't worry Cupcake. Everything is gonna be fine," Custard sniffled before giving the puppy a kiss on the nose. "Just fine, forever and ever!"
Pupcake gave Custard a big lick on the face before hopping up to do the same to Strawberry. Then he simply curled up tight against the girl while his tail wagged double-time.
The redhead gently raised Custard's face to look at her concerned face. "Just tell me one thing."
Her tone made the cat nervous. "Okay..."
"What did you mean that you 'even wish'? Wish what?"
Custard laid on her side in Strawberry's lap, sighing. "It's going to sound really weird."
"That's okay. You can tell me," she assured her best friend in the whole wide world.
"You see, all that stuff I do with Angel Cake?"
The redhead shifted uncomfortably before answering, "Yes?"
"Well, the truth is... I really always wanted to do that stuff with someone else." After saying it the cat immediately turned he gaze away.
Strawberry murmured, a bit confused, but then she resumed petting Custard softly.
"It was about a month ago," Custard started to explain, "when I was in heat."
"In heat? What's that mean?"
A nervous smile overtook the cat's face. "Well, it's when a girl cat gets really strong urges to feel good," she said before pausing to point between her rear legs, "down here." Custard awkwardly turned away and took a deep breath. "You know, like when you do those things to yourself some nights."
Strawberry's eyes nearly bulged and her face turned almost as red as her namesake. Pupcake rolled over to lie on his back while looking up at her curiously.
Custard went on, "And there aren't any other cats around here, never mind boy cats. Believe me, I've been trying to find some for weeks!"
The redhead's face lit up. "So that's why you've been going out almost every night!"
Custard nodded before continuing, "So I lick myself a lot then rub myself against something until it feels good like it's supposed to. But even then it's never as good as it feels like it's really supposed to." The cat stopped for a moment when it dawned on her that she was talking so openly about masturbation and sex, but she decided there was no turning back. "So, anyway, I really wanted to do it, and that night I knew that the only one I really wanted to do it with was you."
Strawberry was so lost for words she barely remembered to breathe.
"It was a very hot night, and when I saw you getting into bed with nothing on but your panties I just wanted to be with you so bad. I was so happy you didn't mind when I asked to sleep with you. I told myself I really just wanted to be close to you, but deep down I knew that I really wanted more. You fell asleep right away, but I couldn't. I just kept thinking about you lying there so still, so beautiful. The sweet sound of your soft breaths were like drums crashing, each a thunderous roar in my ears that made me tremble. Finally I lost control and wrapped myself around your leg and rubbed myself into a frenzy. I can't remember what happened exactly until a while after I came. But you do..."
She started crying into her paws, but Strawberry petted her and raised the cat's chin to see her face. "I do, but..."
Custard sniffled loudly and continued, "But then I saw I'd scratched your leg all up and even bit you too, and I felt really bad. I hadn't meant to hurt you. I meant to do all those nice things that you liked, like I'd watch you do when I'd sneak into your room at night."
Pupcake jumped back on his legs, wide eyed, and yelped out something at Custard.
The cat glared back at him and insisted, "It is not creepy." Then she turned back to Strawberry. "I just wanted to know how to make you feel really good too, but I messed up and I felt really bad."
"Oh Custard, I never..."
The kitty interrupted, "But then it got even worse 'cause you just washed both of us up and didn't say a single word! And I was too ashamed to say anything or even look at you. Then you left and didn't come back. At first I thought you were just putting stuff back in the bathroom and I waited and waited. But finally I went out and saw that you'd gone to sleep on the couch. Even after you got up you were still nice to me, but you didn't say anything about what happened. I thought you were really disappointed in me or something."
Strawberry picked her up and hugged her tightly in her arms and practically squeaked into her fur, "Oh Custard, I'm so sorry! I never knew!" Then she held the cat in her lap, who looked up at her curiously. The redhead then explained, "I thought you were just sick. You'd been acting a little weird and jumpy for a few days and I didn't know why. I thought you got in bed with me 'cause you weren't feeling well. Then while you were doing, you know, it on me I thought you were delirious from a fever. You felt very hot." Then she paused while lowering her head closer to Custard's. "And you know what? That's why I didn't push you away even though it hurt. I just petted you until you were calm and laid back down. After cleaning up you were so quiet I thought you were asleep, so I didn't want to get back in bed and wake you. I was even afraid to kiss you goodnight, even though I really wanted to berry much."
"But how come you never told me?" Custard whined.
"Well, when I felt all the stuff on both of us I thought you'd wet yourself. I didn't want to say anything because I was afraid it'd embarrass you."
"So then... you weren't mad at me?"
"No, not at all. I just didn't understand."
"And... You don't think I'm some sort of bad horrible cat because I want to do that kind of stuff with you?"
"No, not really," she giggled. "I'm actually kind of flattered." She rested the side of her face against her cat, her best friend, letting out a contented sigh as she hugged her.
Custard sighed in return. "Now I feel really dumb. I guess I should have talked to you about it before doing what I did."
Strawberry beamed a big smile at her kitty. "That's right. Even if we're afraid we have to tell each other what we feel or else we'll just feel bad. But still, at least something good came of it."
"What do you mean?"
"At least you were there for Angel Cake when she really needed someone."
"Yeah? Well, when she was right there with her pants down and I was so close to her... special place... and well, I decided to try out what I'd learned from watching you and see if I was any good. You know, in case I ever did get the chance. But after that it was because I really liked it, and I like her too, even though I think she really wants to be with a boy someday. And I, well, you know..."
"Well, she felt better even when you just talked to her and kept her company, not just the sex stuff." The redhead began stroking Custard even harder with her fingertips. "You know what though?"
"What?"
"When Angel Cake told me what happened she did say that you actually were really good at it..."
"And?"
Strawberry gave her a sly smile. "Well, maybe I should find out for myself sometime."
Custard jumped to her feet and blurted, "Really! You mean it?"
Strawberry smiled at her then added, "But you know, maybe I'll have to get Angel Cake to come over to teach me that stuff she does to you too. We can make it a special sleepover for just the three of us. What do you think about that?"
Custard's eyes rolled back in her head and she fainted back onto the couch, a big smile on her face.
