Drew drops down besides the airship and Doc lets go of her. This flight was different to him, it was unlike anything he had ever done and this is someone who has flown a Jet pack on the past. “I never realized that Harpies were so fast or strong. Man is anything we knew about them correct?”
Drew Nods, “Once this whole ordeal is over we have to change their file completely. They are a far more dangerous species then we thought.”
As the two scientists reach for the door of the airship they notice some scrap metal, some debris of the ship that should not be there. They both look up and see a whole about ten feet up, one that is large enough for a full sized human to enter. There are still some sparks from broken circuitry so who ever broke in did it recently. Drew feels a strange sensation in her head, like someone is trying to invade it, “It’s her. She’s inside.”
“Valinda?” Yet somehow Doc is not shocked, the Harpy Queen has shown herself to be a very resourceful adversary. And she is much faster then Drew having been a Harpy her whole life and not needing to carry well her husband while flying. “Judging by where the hole is she’s on the second floor, near the command center.”
Drew nods in agreement, “Do you want me to take you up there dear?”
“No need.” Doc takes out a rope connected to a grappling hook, one of the standard supplies that the Saturdays take on their missions. Such a low tech device can always come in handy. Spinning the hook he throws it at the hole. He makes contact with the wall and makes sure the rope is stable enough before he climbs up. In a little over a minute he is at the hole the Harpy queen made.
Drew smiles, her husband’s resourcefulness is one of his many great qualities. Much like how one of her good qualities is to adapt to any situation no matter how hopeless it seems. The Harpy body she is currently in is such a case. She does not want to remain this way but she will use the strengths of this form to her advantage. She makes a high jump and uses her wings to increase her speed and height. She lands into the hole. She stands back up and wraps her winds around her. “They are useful but I don’t want to rely on them.”
The Saturdays settling themselves down and then look around, outside the light from outside the place is dark. There should be minimal power and lighting on at in the ship at all time, especially during an emergency like this. “She’s ripping the place apart, she’s pissed.” Drew says because she can see what’s going on thanks to her eyes.
Doc follows his wife for a while, as well as knowing the inside of this ship like the back of his hand. Yet before they got too far Doc finds a compartment that holds a secret stash of survival items. He takes out a couple stun rifles and a flashlight. He then throws his wife one of the Stun Guns, “Despite all the crap she’s putting us though I don’t want to kill her if I don’t have to. We have spent our lives trying to understand and protect cryptids I want to keep it that way.”
Drew takes the gun and nods; she is in total agreement with her husband.
Doc turns on the flashlight and for the first time really sees how much damage was made. Valinda trashed the place, consoles, lighting fixtures, computer panels all of them are ripped away and crushed. “My god, she’s pissed.”
“Yes she is.” Drew says silently keeping too herself just how pissed the Harpy Queen really is. Drew can feel the hatred in the queen's actions and the chaos in her mind. Even if she is not completely loyal to Valinda a part of the connection is still there. She keeps hoping she won’t turn on Doc when they finally meet up with Valinda. She is keeping this to herself. “She has a destination in mind; she has a goal, the control deck. She’s planning on using it as our final encounter.”
Doc almost asked her how she knew this but it’s obvious to him, there is a connection between Drew and the queen, not a complete connection but it’s still there.
Doc and Drew follow the destruction, a relatively strait path down the destroyed corridor. Occasionally a door to a room is torn open but for the most part there is no deviation to the path. Eventually they are lead to the command center of the ship, the double doors to this area is ripped open and torn aside. And there standing in the middle of the command center is Valinda the Queen of the Harpy’s she has her back turned to Doc and Drew, and is standing there with a chair in her hand, which she drops.
Doc pulls out the stun rifle and points it at Valinda, he looks at Drew who does the same. He knows they should fire first and ask questions later; still they approach her without firing. “Valinda turn around slowly.” Doc says with his finger on the trigger, “Don’t make us shoot you.”
For someone who went on a rampage in their airship Valinda seems pretty calm as she turns around and looks at Doc and Drew, “Hello Dahling, hello human.” It is a cold reaction toward Doc especially compared to her earlier teasing, she is done playing with him, and it’s no longer fun. “So glad you see you.” She looks at Drew, “You have been bad sister.” And then to Doc, “And you have been worse.”
Drew is conflicted, she looks at her queen, and then at Doc. While Valinda is staring at her Doc is busy pointing his gun at Valinda. Drew takes a deep breath and lifts up her gun; she then points it at Doc.
Doc looks at Drew but is not shocked, he knew part of her was under the Queen’s control and he also knows she’s still fighting it. “Drew, fight it.” He says softly.
“Drop the weapon dear.” Drew says her voice shaking. Drew is not known for weakness but right now she is scared, she is fighting herself and two conflicting natures in her soul. She is unsure which part of her will win but she knows that the harpy side is winning, that at the moment Valinda is winning.
“That’s right beloved.” Valinda says not moving, “Drop the gun for if you shoot me Drew shoots you, and it will take more than one shot to take me down, can the same be said about you?”
Doc slowly puts down his gun, while Valinda may be bluffing about one shot from the Stun Gun not being enough to take her out he knows one shot will put him down. It’s designed to take out powerful thick skinned cryptids after all. He then looks at his wife who is still pointing her gun at him. There is a glimmer in her eyes that tells him all he needs to know. He should play along. “Drew?”
Drew wants to say something but stops; she looks at her husband and then her queen.
Valinda walks closer to Drew and Doc; she reaches Doc’s hand and pulls off the power glove, “I have you using this.” She throws it aside and then pulls out a small bag. She takes out a pinch of power with her fingers and then throws it into Doc’s Face.
“Wha? What is this?” He asks as the sweet smelling dust enters his both though his nose. Instantly he is starting to feel weak, his muscles are starting to feel limp and are growing weaker by the second. He falls to his knees and only then is he able to keep himself from falling down any further.
“Just something to put you at your place.” She touches Doc softly on the cheek, “At my knees. She then turns to Drew, “You may drop the gun sister.” Drew nods and gets down her weapon. Valinda smiles as Drew follows her orders without question “Good good.”
“Now now what do I do with you two?” Valinda says looking at Doc, who is on his knees and Drew who is once again her loyal sister. “I had underestimated you two. I underestimated your love for each other. I underestimated Drew’s will power. I am sorry about that my sister. I should have realized just how strong you were.”
“There is no reason for you to be sorry my queen.” Drew answers, “Your will is absolute.”
Valinda laughs, “Stop it, just stop it, and don’t try to fool me like that sister. I want someone who is loyal but free, someone who will stand up to me, to make me feel alive. I want you to be my personal guard, my knight. Once I can trust you that is.” Valinda walks up to drew, looks into her eyes. “Can I trust you?”
Drew’s mind is fighting between itself, loyalty to her pack, to her queen and her love for Doc. Love that’s the thing isn’t it. Who does she love more? Which love is stronger? “Yes my queen you may trust me.”
Valinda continues to stare into Drew’s eyes for a few seconds; she is trying to determine if her sister is being completely honest with her. “I believe you.” Valinda moves away from Drew and drabs her by the hand. “Come here my child.” She leads her in front of Doc. “Now kill him, kill this human for the good of the flock.”
Doc’s body might me weak, and his mind might be out of it a bit but this shocked him. This is a contradiction of Valinda’s very goal. He has been her goal; making his him to give birth to a new pure Harpy has been her goal, to prevent her race from dying. This makes no sense. “What? But that makes no sense Valinda.” He says.
“Oh?” Valinda smiles at Doc then looks at her sister, “Does it make sense to you Drew?”
“I too question why you are doing this my queen. I will follow your order regardless but I thought the survival of our race is important. Is it not? What of the mating ceremony?”
“Yes it is my child.” Valinda takes a deep breath. “It’s simple I have never seen a sister as strong as you Drew. Few Harpy natural born or converted have your strength, intelligence, and will. I can always try again with another potential mate to keep our race alive. But you Drew, you are a true prize; one that only comes around once every few decades.” While Valinda is saying this she is blasting it into Drew’s mind, reminding her just how important she is to her and the flock.
Drew knows, “I understand my queen.” She pulls out her sword and lifts it, as she lifts it over her head the sword bursts into flames.
Doc closes his eyes, ‘I trust you Drew, and I know you will do the right thing. Just remember I love you.’ He thinks to her, not that he expects her to hear his thoughts. He has reason to believe his drew is still in control and he just has to trust her.
Valinda laughs, “hahahahahahaha.” It is an evil laugh, a wicked laugh. “Do what you know is right my beloved sister.”
