Jake had left her plenty hot water, and he’d left her bathroom spotless. ‘Great. He’s neater than me, too.’ The only thing that was different from how her bathroom always looked was that there were now two toothbrushes hanging in the holder over the sink instead of just hers. She always kept new toothbrushes in her linen closet in case her nephew Corky forgot his when he visited, which he usually did. Jake must have found them when he went searching for the towels.
As she brushed her teeth, she couldn’t help smiling at the distinct possibility that there could be a second toothbrush hanging in her bathroom on a regular basis. However, her self-deprecating thoughts wouldn’t allow her to maintain such a delightful fantasy. ‘Sure, Jess. From drunken one-night-stand to happily-ever-after. That’ll happen.’ Frowning, she stepped into the shower.
The warm water soothed the cramps in her legs, but not the confusion in her aching head. ‘At least I know why my legs hurt so much,’ she thought with a twisted smile. A brief image of her legs wrapped tightly around Jake’s torso crept into her thoughts. Her body reacted instantly. “Fuck!” She cursed her lack of self-control. “Come on girl, pull it together!” Pushing the image aside, she turned off the water and stepped out of the tub. While blowing her hair dry, she studied her reflection in the mirror. She sighed dejectedly and swallowed two Tylenol tablets.
She considered putting on some clothes, then decided that her robe would do for now. Jake was still wearing only a towel and she didn’t want him to feel intimidated or underdressed.
