[ Someone dies in this chapter. Two updates in a row because I drug my feet on it for so long. Consider it interest. Hehe ]
- a heavy weight was lifted as the door swung open! It wasn't locked! Well nothing had been so far so there was no reason to fear that it had been but still the relief was there! Turning to see where Mabel was just a few steps behind him he caught a glimpse of what it was behind them.
A dog. It was just some stray do- oh god. Pushing her into the hospital and slamming the door closed behind them it took another thirty seconds before there was loud and horrible noises like barking echoed and modified somehow just outside the door. Sliding the lock home and pulling his belt off to tie around the doors Dipper was visibly shaking now.
“Dipper, what's wrong with you?” Mabel had asked as she climbed up from the floor she topped down to meet when Dipper gave her a shove. Looking to her with is face several shades whiter than it had been he just shook his head and helped her up. “We have to go find somewhere to stay.”
“Hey, the power's still on here! Do you think the microwaves work?”
The power was still on? But how? Backup generators! Of course they would have some kind of back up, people needed this equipment to survive, they had to have power if there was some kind of failure! This actually hadn't been a bad idea and for once he was happy that he had taken Bill's advice. They would be able to turn this into a makeshift base, well hopefully they would. “Yeah, uh, you'll need to find the break-room for that though.”
“See Pine Tree? I wouldn't steer you wrong, now how about that body mn?”
A startled yelp and an attempt to brush the triangular being from his shoulder only to fail as if he was some kind of figment of his imagination only made it worse. He was on his shoulder and there was absolutely nothing he could do to get him to leave.
“I've told you before, no, I won't... I won't do that.”
“Oh. I see how it is. Well next time you need a favor don't come running to me. You're not getting any more freebies until after you've given me some kind of reason to help.” Bill was in the air again leaning back on what might have been some kind of chair, if it had been real. There was seething rage hidden behind that placid face of Bill's, a rage that he didn't dare show Dipper, not yet anyhow. He didn't want to give him any reason to not give him what he needed and surely rage, more over a seething murderous rage, would likely be a deal-breaker. Oh well! Time to give them a reason to give him what he wanted. After all, a little motivation never killed anyone! Well it hadn't yet anyhow. Perhaps it should?
The last thing Dipper heard from Bill was chuckling as he vanished and suddenly a very real worry replaced the worry that the door to the hospital would be locked. Why was Bill laughing?
“That's right, follow me you stupid thing.” Snickering and hovering just in front of the beast that they had locked outside Bill was leading it around to the other door, there were several after all, and who locked a hospital? Aside from Dipper who only locked this door, well so far anyhow. “You're going to do me a favor aren't you?” After all it wasn't like it could do damage to him, and it didn't want a bunch of vegetables, it was more interested in the fun snacks, the snacks that ran and screamed, and boy would they! Doing a quick check of the doors he of course couldn't manipulate them himself, not without a body that was, so improvisation was key but hey, he was real good at that!
Leading the slobbering monstrosity up a few levels of stacked boxes, a dumpster, and onto the awning of the side doors Bill had hovered there in front of one of the windows teasing the beast who of course threw itself at the window several times, and being that it was already open a crack once the screen was out of the way all it had to do was push that rotting nose under the window and with a bit of wiggling and the shuffling of decaying flesh it was in! Good enough! Laughing that absolutely insane way that only he could Bill teased and angered the already long dead thing the whole way to the stairs and when he had gotten it to the landing of the ground floor he had simply vanished to allow things to play out on their own.
Couldn't be caught doing this after all.
Supply closet was the first stop where Dipper was busy gathering up blankets and pillows, things to change out the other beds in case they were dirty or had been occupied. While sifting through bedding, pillows, socks and medical gowns he wouldn't have even been aware of what was slowly getting closer to the closet until his sister had let out an ear splitting scream and of course he spun around pillows in his arms still to see her looking at him. No, past him. Turning he again saw the beast from before.
A rotting dog with skin hanging lose around a rotting body held together by decomposing flesh and tendons. Dragging a back leg and with only one eye it snarled and quickly started after the shocked Dipper. Snapping out of what ever trance he had been in he threw the pillows and blankets at the beast and while tripping it up it didn't stop it. Instead it only seemed to anger it as Mabel had run into one of the many rooms to close herself in and locking the door. Now that she was safe Dipper only had to worry about-
Mother of god. Even when it was half rotten the damn thing could bite /hard/. The teeth around his ankle and sinking into flesh sent him falling to the floor where his head smacked onto tile dazing him. Thankfully running on instinct alone his body knew to kick at the beast shaking already lose teeth free from their place in the mouth of the beast. Climbing quickly to his feet the corpse had been hardly phased though lacked several teeth meaning that the two more bites that it got in caused very little damage. Finally Dipper had made it into one of the rooms and closed the door, locking it and allowing himself to let a sob of pain escape. With a pounding head, open and bleeding wounds that he now had to pull teeth out of he was again thanking his lucky stars that they had been in a hospital. It hurt and without the proper things it would get infected. It was still outside the door though, and now it was dark outside so escape out the window in a wounded state was simply not going to happen.
“Bill.” With a heavy heart he had called him, the pain in his leg and his head perhaps clouding his judgment. Nothing. “Bill I'll do it, please.”
“Ah, so then what you're saying is, we have a deal?” Dipper looked up to the floating thing as he held his hand out to him and of course, Dipper shook it.
“A body.”
“Ah, and interest remember?” Bill said with a chuckle before backing up and gesturing to the man in the bed behind them. Oddly convenient and if Dipper was in his right and healthy mind he would even say planned. Lucky for Bill he wasn't and so he had climbed to his feet and with a limp and a staggering step he drew closer to the sleeping man. It seemed he had been in some kind of serious accident with how he had been wrapped up and healing though after a couple gentle shakes he confirmed that who ever it was was likely... well likely beyond help. That's what Dipper told himself and it made this a little less monstrous. Griping onto the spare pillow on the chair beside the bed, likely for visiting family, the guilt of what he was about to do washed over him pressing out a sob.
“Do you want to save your sister and yourself?” Bill asked while looking at his 'fingers' as one might when checking for dirt under their nails.
“Yes.” Dippers answer was quiet and timid this time, no backbone at all behind it.
“THEN GET ON WITH IT.” Bill had snapped at him. He was in no place to deny him now, not with that undead beast and something far worse lurking outside. They were trapped like little rats and Bill was taking full advantage of it.
The harsh tone had only demoralized him further and with a deep breath that Dipper held in he pressed the pillow down over the sleeping man's face with eyes squeezed shut tightly. Bill however hovered over him with a wide open eye waiting for just the right moment to seize his new vessel since well, this was all about timing.
Startled out of his held breath and closed eyes by a hand on his arm Dipper was startled back dropping the pillow and looking reflexively where Bill had been to find nothing at all. How long had he been... oh god. This meant he had done it. He had essentially killed someone?
“Ahah! I didn't think you had it in you Pine Tree.” What ever power Bill had as he was he carried it over to when he had a body too. Everything about the man who had been under the pillow and the man he was now was different. Wild and intensely curly blond hair closest to the color Bill himself had been before he had his own body and skin just a few shades off of ink black, eyes darker than his skin with the universe reflected for the smallest moment in them before they settled on a brilliant hazel had robbed him of any illusion of humanity. Both frightfully alien and beautifully human this form suited him just as his last had.
If it was the act that he had preformed or the thing that stood before him now that caused it Dipper didn't know, but he heaved and turned just in time to vomit while a hand gently pat his back.
“That's right Pine Tree, get it all out.”
The only thing that made Bill's voice worse was when it was devoid of any irony or anger and instead replaced with that soft tone, a tone that Dipper had never heard from him before. It was enough to chill his blood but not enough to keep him from retching a couple more times. “Here, rinse.” A glass of water, cold, clean and fresh water was pressed into his hand and Dipper did as he was told not wanting that taste to linger longer than it had to. After the rinse he took a single drink before passing the glass back to Bill who instead just dropped it, allowing it to shatter on the ground though as the shards bounced off the hard tile they fell tot he ground as water as well.
“I've got a dog to re-kill. Come along Dipper dear, your sister will want to know how this mess happened now won't she?” The smile Bill sported was unnaturally wide spanning from where each eye stopped to it's partner. In his mouth a innumerable number of pearly white canine teeth.
What had he done.
