Zero rolled a large, heavy cage into Professor Port’s Grimm Studies class, easily pushing it with Grimoire. He rubbed at his eyes with his right hand, still slightly tired from yet another restless night plagued by the same nightmarish memory.
He noted that Ruby Rose was goofing off, which was understandable considering Port’s penchant for bombastic storytelling instead of traditional teaching methods. He also noticed her partner Weiss Schnee getting more and more frustrated at her leader’s antics, also understandable, considering that while Port’s method of teaching was unusual, buried within his stories were lots of useful facts about the strengths, weaknesses, and behaviors of the creatures of Grimm.
When Port asked who among the students had the qualities of a true Hunter, Weiss immediately raised her hand. Zero shook his head, rolling the cage into position while Weiss quickly entered the small side-room to change into her combat uniform. When she emerged and took up a ready stance, Port used his Blunder-Axe to unleash the captive Boarbatusk.
Weiss was too frustrated, and giving too much attention to Ruby’s cheering and advice rather than her foe. When she was disarmed, Zero made to remove his glove, but was stopped by a stern look from Professor Port. The wolf noticed that the Professor had tighten his own grip on his weapon as well, so decided to follow his lead, but slowly started to inch of his glove regardless.
Weiss retrieved her weapon and used her Semblance first to create a Stop Glyph to block the Boarbatusk’s charge, and then back flipped onto a Force Glyph to launch herself at the sprawling Grimm, impaling it with Myrtenaster.
As the class ended, Zero dragged the now empty cage out of the lecture hall. He caught the end of the argument between Weiss and Ruby, and saw Weiss go stalking after Professor Port. He saw Ozpin standing behind the tearful girl, and decided it best to leave before his urge to wipe away those unshed tears became unbearable.
Returning the cage to where it the Pit, which most students didn’t even know existed, he decided to take advantage of his schedule to hit the Workshop just off the Locker Rooms, which should hopefully be empty this time of day.
Reaching the Locker Rooms, he changed out of his uniform and into his preferred choice of clothing before grabbing Gypsy Danger and the Boom Sticks and entering the Workshop. To his surprise, he wasn’t alone. Ruby Rose was standing at a table, disassembling Crescent Rose with her back to him and bobbing her head to the rhythm of whatever was playing on her headphones.
Blocking her out of his thoughts, he picked a table in a secluded corner of the room and slipped his earphones in before laying his weapons out. He started by cleaning Gypsy Danger. Once satisfied, he carefully removed the armor plating and Dust Cartridges from Grimoire and used a small screwdriver to recalibrate its skeletal inner workings.
Zero was so absorbed in his work he didn’t notice Ruby behind him, trying to get his attention, until she very lightly tugged on his scarf. Startled, Zero tank his earphones out and spun around, startling Ruby even more and causing her flail as she stumbled backwards. Reacting on instinct, Zero grabbed her wrist and slipped Grimoire around her back, pulling the girl tightly against him.
The two blushing teens stood there, frozen as they stared into each other’s eyes. Zero started to lean his head down, and Ruby’s eyes began to slowly close as she tilted her head up…then the Wolf Faunus screamed in pain as Grimoire started to violently twitch. Throwing himself away from Ruby and back to the workbench, Ruby almost fell flat on her ass, stunned at the sudden loss of firm muscles and hard steel that had kept her on her feet.
Noticing the upperclassman was in serious pain and struggling to control his arm, Ruby leapt up, ignoring the stinging pain in her rear and quickly moving to Zero’s side. “What’s wrong? What can I do to help?” she asked worriedly.
“Hold my arm down!” Zero growled, his teeth gritted in pain. Ruby quickly complied, grateful for the strength her training with Crescent Rose had granted her. His arm now mostly still, Zero quickly snatched up the screwdriver and adjusted the sensitive inner workings of his prosthetic.
After a couple tense minutes, Grimoire was finally back under his control and both teens let out a sigh of relief as they slumped against the table. Zero wiped sweat from his brow as Ruby nervously bit her lip and wrung her hands. “I’m sooo sorry! I-I didn’t mean to interrupt, honest!”
“Hey,” Zero interrupted her. “It’s not your fault, okay? Relax, Little Red.” He ended with a tired smile as he began to reassemble Grimoire. Ruby calmed somewhat, though she was still too nervous to even react to the nickname.
Her silver eyes darted about, looking for anything to break the ice with, when she noticed his the earphones dangling from around his neck. “So, uh, what were you listening too?” she asked, earning a slightly confused look from the upperclassman.
Instantly regretting what she assumed was a lame question, she racked her brain to think of something, anything different to say when Zero put her at ease. “Sorry,” he said with an embarrassed chuckle. “I completely forget about I was listening to music,” he admitted, pulling out his scroll and setting to play through the speakers, filling the quiet Workshop with “Sacrifice” by Casey Lee Williams and Jeff Williams.
Ruby squealed in joy at the sounds. “I love Casey Lee Williams!” she exclaimed, closing her eyes as she mouthed the words and played an air guitar. Zero watched her in amusement, and couldn’t keep his laughter suppressed for long.
The sound shocked Ruby out her mental concert and she blushed brightly. “I’m sorry,” Zero apologized, trying to suppress his laughter. “That was actually pretty good though. Do you play for real?”
”Well, yeah I do, though not for a while,” the girl answered shyly before asking him the same question.
“Ahh, no,” Zero answered, rubbing the back of his neck. “I may be a good fighter, but I can’t hold a tune or play an instrument at all…”
Feeling bad possibly embarrassing the upperclassman, Ruby’s eyes landed on his weapons and lit up with joyful curiosity. “Speaking of fighting, that sword is beautiful!”
“Thanks,” he said with a grin, glad for the change of subject. “Its name is Gypsy Danger, and it’s a Multi-Action Dust Whip-Sword,” he explained, lifting it off the table and offering it to her. Ruby happily accepted it, and took a step back to slowly swing it about as she studied it. ‘Damn,’ he thought to himself, mesmerized by the girl in front of him. ‘She handles it like a pro. No wonder Ozpin let her enroll two years early…’
“It’s beautiful,” Ruby repeated when she handed it back, before drawing her own weapon, taking an extra step back to give it room to unfurl. “This is my sweetheart, Crescent Rose, a customizable High-Caliber Sniper-Scythe,” she happily declared, practically cuddling the weapon before eying his left arm.
Noticing her gaze, Zero raised Grimoire so she could inspect it. “It’s a Weaponized Cybernetic Blaster-Arm. I call it Grimoire. A friend of mine in Atlas built it for me after I lost my arm…” Zero trailed off, and Ruby noticed the far-away look in his eyes. He quickly pushed away the painful memories and reconfigured Grimoire into blaster form. “It uses Dust Cartridges to charge energy bolts,” he explained as if he hadn’t just zoned out. “By changing how far the tips of my fingers are while they are spinning, I can fire either small, medium, or large bolts.”
“That is the coolest robot arm I have ever seen!” exclaimed Ruby, sheathing her weapon and stepping closer.
Chuckling, Zero asked, “And just how many robot arms have you seen?”
Ruby blushed and rubbed the back of her neck as she spoke rapidly. “Well I’ve never actually seen on but I’ve heard about them and thought about how cool they would be and I even thought about what it would be like to have one but then I realize how much it would hurt to lose my arm…”
Zero laughed at her rapid, hard to follow way of talking, but was also vividly reminded of the own pain he had suffered. “Yeah, it certainly does hurt…”
Once more, a nervous Ruby tried to change the subject, silently cursing herself for being so awkward, when she saw the two weapons still laying on the table, hints of bright color peeking out from beneath the faded bandages that covered them. “What are those?”
Zero zoned out again as he gently ran the tips of his flesh-and-blood fingers across the weapons. “They were my sisters…they’re called Boom Sticks,” he said with an amused grunt. “Her name was Cheshire…you woulda liked her, Little Red,” he ended, giving Ruby a sad smile.
She found herself lost in his emotion-filled violet eyes, and took a half step closer before his Scroll suddenly chimed, interrupting the quiet music they had been talking over.
Zero frowned at his scroll before deactivating the reminder. “I’m sorry, I have an essay I need to get started on,” he explained, flashing her an apologetic smile as he gathered up his weapons and put away the tools he had been using.
“No, it’s fine, I understand,” Ruby said, fiddling with her thumbs while looking at her feet, trying to hide the confusing mixture of embarrassment and disappointment she felt at not being able to spend more time with the handsome boy.
She was startled by a gentle hand on her shoulder. “Little Red, Professor Ozpin didn’t make a mistake when he made you leader,” Zero said seriously, a stern expression on his face, but a comforting look in his eyes. “You showed great tactical thinking when you fought that Nevermore yesterday. But being a Huntress is serious business, and being a team leader is big responsibility. Don’t forget that. And you can’t hide in here all night, trust me, I know.” He ended with a small, tired smile. “Good night, Little Red.”
“Good night,” Ruby quietly called after him as she mulled over the strange feelings he created in her, as well as the words of both him and Ozpin. Finally making up her mind on what to do about Weiss, she quickly headed back to the dorms, hoping to catch up with her floor manager so she could spend a little more time with him. Sadly she was out of luck, as Zero was nowhere to be seen, having taken a detour to the Library to check out the reading material he would need for his assignment.
<><><> Blake quietly slipped out the Team RWBY dorms, her cleaning supplies in hand. Yang was fast asleep and snoring, while Ruby had fallen asleep studying again, finishing the second cup of coffee Weiss had made for her. Weiss herself had just laid down in bed and quickly fallen asleep after taking a shower.Between her partners snoring, and the lingering smell of coffee, Blake couldn’t sleep, so she decided to take advantage of the late hour to take a shower without fear of her Faunus heritage being discovered.
Her yellow eyes scanned the bathroom as she entered, cat ears twitching beneath her little black bow. One side was a wall-width mirror above a long counter inlaid with several sinks. On the other were toilet stalls. One the far door where two doors leading to the male and female shower rooms. The faint steam coming from under the male showers door indicated someone had recently finished, so she kept her bow on for now as she strode across the room towards the door marked females.
She was halfway across the room when the male’s door swung open and their floor manager stepped out, wearing simple black and grey pants, with a wet towel draped over his shoulders. Both Faunus stopped in their tracks, Zero in surprise at anyone other than him being awake this late, Blake in shock as his unblocked pheromones assaulted her senses.
“You-you’re an Alpha!” Blake exclaimed, taking a step back, a blush spreading across her cheeks as she her eyes ran over him. His handsome, scarred face, the various other scars that adorned his leanly muscled chest and arms, and the fact his left arm ended abruptly in a metal cap, right above where his elbow should have been.
Zero took a step back himself, hoping to keep both himself, and her, under control. “Well, yeah…and you are an Omega, so…no big deal, right?” he asked nervously.
Blake seemed flabbergasted for a moment, then she narrowed her eyes and flexed her claws. “No problem? You think I’m just ignore an Alpha living in the same building as my female friends, just because I’m immune?”
“Whoa whoa whoa!” Zero exclaimed, taking another step back and waving his hand in a placating manner. “You didn’t even know I was an Alpha till now! I take special medication, okay? I was gonna take another dose after my shower ‘cuz I thought everyone was asleep, okay?”
Blake thought it over. She hadn’t even realized he was a Faunus before now, so the medication he was talking about must be real. Letting out a sigh and turning her face away to try and hid the fact her face wasn’t red with anger, but something else, she stated coldly, “Fine. But if you ever leave your room without having taken your medication,” Blake flexed her claws at him.
Zero let out a chuckle that was half-nervous, half-amused, and quickly left to the room before she could notice the effect her looks and personality was having on a certain part of his anatomy. Entering his room, he quickly took an Alpha Blocker while trying to resist the urges threating to take hold of him, then just as quickly decided to take two, just to be safe. With his instincts now somewhat suppressed, Zero collapsed into bed. ‘So troublesome,’ Zero thought tiredly. He decided he would start taking double doses of the Alpha Blockers from now on, not knowing what would come of it…
<><><> Blake quickly stripped out of her yukata and stepped into the purposely cold shower spray, trying to quell the heat rapidly building up inside of her. Zero was the second Faunus she had encountered in her life. The first, her former partner, had never expressed any sexual interest in her, or anyone was far as she could tell. So she had taken advantage of her Omega status to suppress her sexual desires, her only outlet being erotica such as Ninjas of Love and the occasional fantasy. But having come face to face with another Alpha, she found Omega resistance failing her, as her repressed sexuality screamed at her for release. Realizing the cold water was doing nothing to quench her desires, Blake shamefully slipped a hand between her pale thighs, imagining not the head of a masked bull she once fantasized about, but the scarred face of a violet-eyed wolf between her legs…
