She gasped, looking around the room frantically for the owner of that smooth, seductive voice. The room was nearly pitch black in itself, but she saw a pair of glowing yellow eyes off in the corner, watching her.
"You!" She gasped, feeling her fear rise back up several notches.
"I told you," he said with dark amusement. "You believe in me & that makes me real to you."
"Look, I already told you, I'm not interested in anything you have to-"
She was cut off as she gasped in fright, as he was suddenly right in her face, cupping her chin roughly.
"And I told you," he said threateningly, "you have no say in the matter."
She shoved against his hard chest. "Let go of me! I won't be yours! I refuse! And you can't make me!"
"Is that so?" He sneered.
Suddenly, they were both standing in her little sisters room. He had used the shadows to transport them both.
"What are you doing?" she asked fearful of his intentions.
He gave her a look of foreboding as black sand gathered in his palms to create skeletal horse like creatures with burning golden eyes. Night Mares. "Come with me of your own free will and I'll leave her in peace. Never to be visited by me or my nightmares again. Refuse me, and I will be forced to 'persuade' you. Either way, you will be mine." He threw his arms out toward the sleeping child, causing the Night Mares to descend upon her. The child woke up suddenly, screaming and crying. The Night Mares turned into a swirl of black sand, surrounding her & preventing her from escaping.
"Ariel!" Adriana tried to run to her sister, but Pitch had a firm grip on her arm and would not let her escape. "Leave her alone, you monster!" she demanded.
"So I'm a monster, am I?" he growled, narrowing his eyes. "So be it, then. But you're still mine!"
Adriana screamed as Pitch formed a rope from the black sand, which rapidly snaked around her body, tying her to a chair. The chair flew into the corner opposite her little sister.
"Adriana!" Ariel cried.
"Let me go you bastard!" Adriana demanded, attempting to struggle out of the rope.
The Nightmare King chuckled darkly, running a finger under her chin. "So sorry to have to do this to you, my pet, but it's as I said. You have no say in the matter."
"Pitch stop it!" Adriana pleaded. "Why are you doing this?"
"Because, my dear," he smirked, lowering his head toward her. "I'm teaching you a valuable lesson on what happens when one attempts to defy me."
He reached out his hand and caressed her face, only to have her jerk her head away.
"What do you want from me?" she demanded, her eyes tearing up.
"You," he whispered lowly. "I want you to be my Queen. The Nightmare Queen."
"No! Never!"
"Have it your way, then."
He waved his hand & black sand walls began rising high above her little sister. Pitch teleported himself and Adriana over the girl as the walls started closing in on her.
"No, please! Stop! Don't hurt her! I'll…" she hung her head in defeat. "I'll do anything."
Pitch cupped his ear. "What was that, my darling? Didn't hear you over the screams of fear from the child."
"I'll do anything!" she shouted, angrily.
He gave her a sly grin. "Anything?"
She breathed. "It's me you want! Leave her out of it!"
"No, Adriana!" Ariel yelled. "Don't do it!"
"It's the only way, Ariel!" She turned back to the nightmare king. "I'll go with you willingly. I'll be your queen. I will do whatever you want, and I won't resist. Everything will be exactly the way you want, if you just leave her alone! Please!"
"No!" Ariel cried.
"Please! Just leave her alone!"
Pitch studied her face, searching for any sign of trickery, but found none. He chuckled throatily.
"That's better."
He snapped his fingers, stopping the walls from moving and undoing the ropes that tied Adrianna to the chair.
"Although," he said, stroking his chin. "I shall need some sort of proof that you will hold to your word."
"How am I…?" Adriana started to say, but he stopped her as he lifted her chin.
She was frozen in place and would have fallen had Pitch not wrapped his arms around her.
His lips descended toward hers, slowly. She could feel his breath against her lips.
"I…I. . ."
"Ah-ah-ah," he said, taking a strand of her hair & twirling it in between is index and middle finger then letting it drop back down to her shoulder. "You said you wouldn't resist."
Defeated, she closed her eyes as he leaned towards her. Pitch's lips were smooth and cool against hers as he kissed her. He moved his lips against hers firmly as he wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her to him. She found herself actually responding to him! It felt surprisingly. . . .good. Sensual. The kiss didn't last long, though, and when he pulled away, he smirked down at her in triumph, making her feel angry about responding to his kiss. And one glance at her sniffling sister filled her with guilt. How could she have enjoyed the kiss of the monster who threatened her family!? She felt disgusted with herself.
Suddenly, they were both surrounded by darkness as Pitch called to the shadows to transport them. "Wait!" Adriana cried. She had to at least say goodbye to Ariel. Needed to tell her that she loved her & ask her to tell their parents how very much she loved them, too. She needed to at least say goodbye. "Wait, Pitch!" But it was too late. By the time she finished her outcry, they had already arrived at their destination.
Sniffling, Adriana paused, and closed her eyes. A small, glistening tear escaped her eyes and ran down her face. "You didn't even let me say goodbye!" She cried. "I'll never see them again. And I didn't get to say goodbye." She let out a soft sob as the reality of her situation started to sink in. Her sister, her parents, her friends, her band, everything she'd worked for, everything she had accomplished or had yet to accomplish, it was all fading away! 'No!' She thought in defiance. 'I will get my life back. No matter what it takes.' She would figure something out. She had to.
Ignorant of the defiant thoughts running through Adriana's mind, Pitch ran a hand through his spiky hair & glanced away. Guiltily? He cleared his throat. "Come. I will show you to your new living quarters."
She stood and glanced around her. They were in a dark corridor with black stone walls and floors. Likewise, everything was dark grey & made of stone. There were several tunnels that led out but she couldn't see beyond the dark entrances. A multitude of cages hung from the ceiling. Cages? What does he need those for? She was afraid to ask. Off to the side, there was a giant black globe with twinkling golden lights all over it. He gestured to her to follow him and began to walk away. She debated trying to make a run for it. "I wouldn't, if I were you." Pitch said with warning in his voice, not even turning around. "You would only get lost & it would be a simple matter for me to catch you."
Adriana glared at his back. How did he know she was thinking of running? Sullenly, she began to follow him.
"This is your new home so you may, of course, roam it as you see fit. However, it is a labyrinth of tunnels and corridors, so you will need to be escorted until you figure out how to navigate it yourself. Should you choose to go exploring, call out to my Night Mares. They will help you. Likewise if you need anything, you have simply to ask for it. They are made from my magic & as such can conjure whatever you need out of the shadows."
Finally, he stopped in front of a large black door with elaborate carvings on it. He opened the door and gestured for her to enter first. It was completely dark inside. She couldn't see a thing. Suddenly, Pitch conjured a lantern from the shadows. "Apologies." he said smoothly. "I forget sometimes that others cannot see as clearly as I do in the dark."
He handed her the lantern and started back for the door, thinking to give her some time alone to adjust. For now. Just before he left, he glanced at her once more. "I want you to become accustomed to my presence, Adriana. I will give you tonight to resign yourself, however, expect to be seeing much of me in the foreseeable future. It has been too long since someone has believed in me & I desire your company, my sweet." With that, he left her to her own devices, the door closing softly behind him.
