Talking. Really. And after all they’d shared, were words really necessary?
The urge to make sarcastic commentary was passed aside for the moment in favor of following Daniel’s example, returning to his usual fully dressed state with a transformation. Unlike Daniel’s ghostly tail, which managed to hide any detail of the lower body at all, Vlad found his interrupted source of interest still throbbing although covered a bit by the long shirt. Still, he kept Daniel between himself and the ship for now, for reasons other than the threat of its weaponry.
Having made the call for dialogue, Daniel seemed to find himself lost, glancing back and forth between the ship and Vlad as though expecting someone else to start. It was the Manson girl who broke the silence again, a bit harshly.
“Well, if it’s not what it looks like, then what is it?” she demanded, before adding with a touch more sympathy, “Danny, is this why you’ve been acting weird lately? Don’t worry. We’ve helped you fight that jerk before, and we’re beside you now!”
“We’re your friends, Danny,” Tucker added, as though the boy might have forgotten somehow. “We’re here for you. Just give the word…”
“It’s not like that!” Daniel managed to sound remarkably tormented as he ground those words out, although sadly not the result of any of Vlad’s efforts. Well, not immediately so. “Listen, I…” He swirled in mid-air abruptly, pointing to Vlad and demanding, “What the hell was that just now?!”
Vlad found himself a bit taken aback by the question. What was what? He answered with the first thing to come to mind. “Anal sex, Daniel.”
“Not that! I know what that is, I’m not stupid!” In fairness, Plasmius had to mentally agree with that, or at least agree that Daniel wasn’t entirely stupid. There were different forms of intelligence, after all. “I meant with the bindings! One second I’m tied down and the next I broke free like nothing! I know your stuff is harder to break than that!”
From less personal and more scientifically inclined experiments, of course, times when Daniel had been pushed a little past his limits. Vlad had to admit their new direction was at least easier on his own eardrums, much less screaming. This hadn’t been the scenario he’d imagined for when Daniel would realize he could have broken free at any point, but there was no helping it now. “Well, after all, Daniel, suppose you had decided you didn’t want to play. It wouldn’t be very fair not to let you have a way out, hmm? I’ve been expecting and expecting you to say ‘no’ and burst free and run off, but you haven’t.” He smirked, lips curling back over sharp teeth. “I wonder why.”
“Wait a minute, you mean all this time..?!”
“Excuse me!” Sam knocked her knuckles against the broadcast system on the ship, an irritating noise that was nonetheless effective at getting attention. “Are you saying you’ve been doing this to Danny all this time, but you think it’s okay because you didn’t tie him up tight—even though every other time he’s gone through this crap with you, it’s taken all he had to get free? Sorry, I think you’ll find the definition of ‘rape’ includes the threat of violence; you’re not off the hook, Plasmius!”
“Well, what do you think I should do, send him flowers and candy and go out for dinner and dancing some evenings?!” Vlad threw his hands up in frustration. “I wasn’t doing it for your peace of mind, why should I care what you think?”
“I’m pretty sure you should care what the woman in the ship full of anti-ghost weapons thinks,” Tucker suggested drily.
“Oh, yes, I’ve never had to fight that before—“
“Will all of you shut up for a minute?” Danny didn’t stamp his feet, considering he had none at the moment, but Plasmius noticed with a bit of amusement that his ghostly tail was flickering back and forth in agitation. “That’s not gonna work anymore, is it? Now that I know I can break free.”
Vlad raised an eyebrow at Daniel’s decision to talk about this here and now, but agreed. “Probably not. Whatever thrills you were getting before are going to have to be replaced with something else. The illusion, alas, is shattered.”
“What illusion?” Sam demanded from the ship, although her impatience seemed to be replacing her rage for now. “And Danny, even if you… got… some kind of physical reaction, the law still…”
“This isn’t about the law, Sam! I don’t know what it’s about.” Daniel didn’t look over his shoulder as he said it, glaring into Vlad’s eyes. “So is that why you’ve been so clumsy sneaking up on me?”
Vlad hadn’t quite expected that. “What?”
“Your sneaking up on me has been more and more obvious lately.” Daniel looked annoyed with Vlad’s confusion. “You do remember I’ve got ghost sense, right? You’re just lucky you’ve been picking times there weren’t any big crises going on or I’d have turned around and really fought you!”
“That wasn’t luck, Daniel.” Well, two illusions shattered for the price of one. Daniel’s helplessness in the face of Vlad’s whim was shrinking down to nothing, wasn’t it? Vlad noticed he’d also shrunk a bit, although that was more comfortable than anything, considering that this conversation was difficult enough as it was without worrying about his still-unsatisfied urges. All that planning and waiting, wasted… “Though I’ve noticed you’ve kept all my presents to you. It’s quite touching.”
“What presents? Danny, we do deserve answers here,” Sam insisted. “What’s going on?”
“Wait, you were both in on this? This is some kind of big, weird game?” Tucker’s voice quavered a little, a tremor audible even over the speakers. “In that case, is it going to traumatize anyone if I complain that I can never unsee what I just saw?”
“Okay, fine, I have another question!” Daniel seemed to be ignoring his friends for the moment, which suited Vlad, so long as the young man stayed between him and the ship for the discussion. “Why did you leave the portal open? Why do you always leave the portal open? I know you have locks for it!” Daniel gestured back to where the ship had entered. “I wasn’t gonna complain back when you were just running weird tests on me, but you could have closed the door before you decided it was time we took the next step!”
“We took the next step?” Samantha’s voice was rising, like Tucker’s before, although more in disbelief than horror by Vlad’s judgment.
“The same reasons your bindings were loosened… oh, and I suppose a personal interest in preserving my own things.” Vlad admitted easily. “Better to give you an easy way out than to force you to try and find some way to smash out…”
“It’d be a pain, but it’s not like I couldn’t do it.” Daniel looked at him oddly. “I mean, I’d rather just go through the Ghost Zone, but I could fly a few hours in the human world instead if I had to.”
“Wh-what?” Vlad answered, genuinely startled.
Daniel gestured up, seeming annoyed now. “We’re a couple miles underneath the Colorado Rockies, about twenty miles north of your old chalet, in a lab sealed with rock and lead but no ghost shield. We figured that was you didn’t wanna prevent your own escape.”
Vlad wasn’t sure what to say to that rather detailed confession. “… If you know where my base is, in the human world, why haven’t you attacked it? And why do you always use the Ghost Portal, then?”
“You are still kind of under a mountain, what are we supposed to do, blow up the Rockies?! And why would I go flying for a bunch of miles to pick a fight with you when it’s quicker to just go through the portals?!”
It sounded almost logical, when Daniel put it that way. Vlad decided he didn’t want to think about it. Before he had to try to think up a response, he was interrupted again from the ship.
“Danny? If you don’t turn around and start talking to us, I’m going to shoot at both of you.” It was probably an empty threat, but she made it sound admirably sincere, and Danny obediently turned with an alarmed expression.
“Look, Sam, I… I don’t know how to explain what’s being going on here. It wasn’t my idea but I wasn’t really trying to get out of it either. I’m sorry you guys got pulled into this.”
“Oh, gross!” Tucker’s voice was lacking any doubt, now. “Dude, we came here to rescue you, I didn’t expect to get blindsided with some kind of weird sex games! And since when are you gay? I thought we had an agreement about girls being hot!”
“There are bisexuals in the world, you know,” Vlad commented. “Daniel was just in need of something different from a traditional relationship.”
“This is not a relationship!” Daniel protested. “I don’t know what it is, but I don’t think getting kidnapped and not fighting counts as a relationship!”
“Two people, having sex, and liking it? That’s some kind of relationship, even if I'm not sure what. Aren’t you guys supposed to sign papers or make up safe-words or something first?” For all his protests, Mr. Foley was certainly asking some detailed questions, Vlad thought.
“It is not a relationship if one person in it is being coerced.” And she was still pushing the technically correct facts about consent in relationships. But of course, if consent had been requested and granted easily, poor Daniel would probably not have enjoyed himself quite so much, Vlad reflected…
“Well, whatever it is… I don’t think I need to be rescued.” Daniel glanced over his shoulder at Vlad. “Do I?”
“Leave with your little friends, if you like. I wasn’t planning on holding you here longer.” Vlad feigned indifference, crossing his arms.
“… You guys go ahead. I’ll be fine.” Daniel turned back to the ship. “Really.”
“Danny…” Her voice was missing its hard edge this time, almost pleading. The concern, while misplaced, was rather touching in an odd way. “This isn’t healthy.”
“Yeah, you’re probably right. Don’t tell Jazz, okay?” Daniel looked rather sad at the sound of his friend’s pleading. Vlad imagined he was even floating a bit lower.
“I wasn’t planning on telling anybody,” Tucker answered emphatically.
“Fine. But this conversation’s not over, Danny! And Plasmius, you better remember we know where you live!”
Of course, he had to move now, that would be an annoyance… “I’ll keep it in mind.”
The ship hovered for another moment before backing out, leaving an odd space in the room. Daniel turned to Vlad once again, although now he was standing on the floor, not hovering above it. “Well?”
“Well, what, Daniel? Well, let’s continue? It’s not going to be the same, now that we’ve both acknowledged that this is just a particularly odd set of games.” Vlad answered bluntly. “And you were right. This also isn’t a relationship.”
He made an annoyed noise and looked away from Vlad, frowning. “You should have locked the door.”
“I think my reasons for not doing so were sensible. Since you’ve decided to stay, what were you planning on doing? My own surprises have been sprung.” Vlad gave a one-armed, ‘what can you do’ shrug. “We seem to be at an impasse.”
“Maybe.” Daniel was biting his lower lip, and it looked as though he was thinking of something. Perhaps trying to devise some way the spark could be rekindled in their not-relationship. Vlad wished him sincere luck, but the younger man just shook his head. “Maybe I should go after all.”
“The door is open.” Vlad gestured generously.
“Uh-huh.” Daniel turned towards it, glancing back over his shoulder as though waiting for Vlad to call him back. Vlad didn’t, and soon he was gone through the portal, invisible past the swirls of green.
Locking the door was mildly tempting, considering the circumstances, but Vlad instead decided to start putting things away. A bit depressing, really, though he refused to consider it all over. This stage was over, but Daniel still had needs and he still had the ability to fulfill those needs. He would just have to find other methods. Perhaps genuinely tying him down, or…
It had been an entirely cheap shot, taken at his back, and Vlad felt very proud of Daniel for taking the initiative like that in his last moments of consciousness.

Where is all the sex?! Hmm >.> Let’s hope Danny has better plans for Vlad beyond smacking him from behind! (Actually, that sounds pretty good...)
Thank you for reading, and thanks for the patience ;_; I am slow~
