“He will be here after the mid day meal tomorrow.” The tall monk never looked at Ozai when he spoke. Why should he, he was the truth seer that Zuko spoke to constantly. He was above the king.
Ozai glared at the back of the tall man wishing he had a dagger of some sort to push through his shoulder blades until he punctured a lung. It was a rather strange time when this man arrived. It happened after the dragon went missing for a while. Zuko seemed troubled and Ozai saw his chance to reunite with his son. Yet, somehow this man appeared and Iroh, his own brother befriended this stranger and gave him this title of Seer.
“Have you seen this then?” Ozai’s voice was full of mocking that was not lost on the monk.
Ozai saw his shoulders shaking as he chuckled at the king’s displeasure of having to kneel and ask to speak with him.
“I see all things. Such as your life span becoming shorter with every breath, you take. Prince Zuko and I agree on all things but one. Would you like to know what that is King Ozai?”
Anger welled in the body of the king knowing the monk was smiling at his own words. He knew what they disagreed about; they haggled about the time of his death. What no one knew was that Ozai planned much for his son and his Seer. He was not waiting for his death but for theirs. He continued to kneel behind the tall monk with deceit in his heart and anger in his body as the man sighed and finally turned to look down upon him with distain.
“Why look upon me with such malice when you are the one that brought about these changes. You sent the boy into the mountain believing he would give you the power of the dragon. The sword told him of your deceit and now you are where you should be…well almost.”
A chuckle came from the kneeling man as the smile on the monk’s face grew. “You taunt me at every instance that you see me. Yet I am still here and I will be here long after you are dead.”
“That would be a feat in itself. Time is not on your side but it is on mine. I have seen many as you are and they all fail against me. What they see as right only is that way for them. They care nothing of others, as you do not. Your son will rule this kingdom and his children shall even be over you. Your dust shall scatter in the sea, turn to mud, and drift onto the sea floor forever imprisoned by the water and the earth. You are nothing. You are forgetful.”
The words stung his heart as the monk turned his back on him…again.
“You think I am defeated. I am a conqueror of kings and princes. I will rise as the sun.”
The monk turned with blazing eyes. “And you will set as it does.”
Ozai stymied his anger seeing the glowing eyes of the man. He had seen the power that the monk could wield and did not wish it upon himself. He knew calmer emotions would save his life. The deposed king lowered his head and spoke softer.
“I mean no harm when I speak to you. My kingdom is no longer mine and I sit and wait for death as you say. How does a man react but with violence and discontent knowing he does not control his destiny? Sired of kings, my spirit will not fail me in my desire to know power again. You cannot expect me to go against my own soul and serve another in my own kingdom. Allow me one dignity for I have given my people peace in my time when the entire world was muddled in fear.”
There was only silence from the tall monk as Ozai kneeled there trying to look as humble as he could. If he could get the man to have pity on him maybe, he would lift the curse Zuko placed on him. Ozai knew there was a connection between this man and the dragon. The power he witnessed from this monk was too strong to be of an ordinary man.
He heard the sigh of the monk and slowly lifted his head to see his back …again.
“What is it that you want?”
A smile crept onto the former king’s lips. “The pain is too great even for me. Release me from this curse. What damage can I do to one as powerful as my son is? I bore him with love not hate. I have made him what he is now. Do I deserve such treatment? Am I not deserving of mercy?”
Ozai lowered his head again as the monk turned again.
It was fated. The deceit had begun. Ozai would bring pain that the conqueror must endure as a test of his power. He would use all methods at his disposal to win back what he thought was his. He would even test the dragon.
The Seer lamented at what was to come. He would release the terror upon this kingdom to see what power the conqueror possessed.
“You are free of the curse placed upon you. However you shall remain under the rule of your son.”
Ozai frowned but accepted the conditions. He slowly raised his head to look into the blue eyes of the thing gazing down at him. “You truly are wise beyond your years; monk. Thousands if I am correct. So much knowledge gained from all your travels. So much destruction caused in your wake. Never challenged by any mere mortal you are supreme…until now.”
Ozai slowly rose to his feet and a smile crossed his face as he felt the tingling affects from the healing of the scar on his neck. He would give his son a scar to remind him of the pain he endured.
The Seer turned his back to the king and stared out the window. He heard the soft chuckling as Ozai walked from the room.
“Follow him and keep yourself hidden as you do so well my little earth bender.”
The blind young woman came from the thick curtain and stood before the monk. Her name was Toph and she was the adopted daughter of Iroh. Sheltered from the outside world by Zuko she became his ears inside the palace. She also became a thorn in Ozai’s side. “Why did you release him from the curse? He will harm Zuko. He will kill him.”
“We will see what power he has then.”
Toph frowned. “I will not let him harm anyone.”
The Seer chuckled. “His sister who is not his sister shall spill the blood of his kin.”
Why did he always say that to her and then laugh about it? Toph shook her head at the insane man and quietly walked from the room after Ozai.

It was a fretful sleep for her. Her thoughts were of her family and her missing brother. Had he encountered Pakku’s forces? No, Sokka was an excellent warrior and he could handle himself well in a fight.
Katara finished gathering the blankets together as the dragon prince walked into dwelling. A searing heat ran through out her body when her eyes met his. A meeting of souls so the old ones said.
He came closer and stood before her. She was favored above all women. “You will see him soon.”
“He will take me home and away from you. You cannot expect me to want to stay with you because you are the dragon prince.”
Zuko moved the strands of dark hair from her face as he spoke softly to her. “He will try to take you from me but he will fail and you will stay with me because you love me.”
He moved his face closer to hers breathing her breathe and she breathing his. His lips were on her cheek and moved closer towards her lips. She offered no resistance to his desire to kiss her.
His arms circled her waist and pulled her hard into his body as his lips sealed onto hers. His fire within him began to merge into her body warming her instantly.
A soft moan escaped her without her knowledge. Katara felt her arms surround his neck to get even closer to this man who she did not know but felt as if she had known him all her life. She was in a fog as the kiss continued. He then suddenly pulled away and his weight upon her body almost dropped the water maiden to her knees.
Katara held him tightly as his strength to hold up his weight began to wane. His breathing began shallow and his eyes glowed golden. Katara struggled to keep him close to her warmth as his body went cold.
“Prince,”
The brilliant colors flashed before his eyes as the force of the dragon took him over. He could see his father smiling at him and hear growling surrounding him. The image began to fade away from his sight. Zuko knew then that the dragon had released Ozai from his curse. He was blind of Ozai’s mind.
He felt the warmth and the frantic cries of the water maiden when he came from his trance. His power returned to him and he relieved her of his weight. He felt her cool hands upon his face and focused on her. He saw relief on her face that he had recovered.
“It has begun.”
“What has begun?” She ran her hands over his face as she stared up at him trying to make sure he was all right.
Zuko gently grabbed her wrists and pulled them from his face.”The dragon has unleashed him.”
“Who and why has he unleashed that would cause you this weakness.”
“He is my father and he will try to destroy me to take his kingdom back. The dragon will test his conqueror…his chosen.” Zuko released her wrist and held her face in his hands, “Only your heart felt love will save this world from his destruction.”
The voice of commander Zhao broke the golden gaze into her eyes. Katara heard him answer back and then turn from her to see to Zhao’s needs.
She stood alone in the cave wondering into what terror he was taking her and why did he think that her love would stand against it. She did not love him but she would not let what he said would destroy him harm him. He rescued her from a life of sorrow she would do all she could to keep him from the same.

“Where is the little one Azula you are to keep an eye on her?” The smiling face of her father was the last thing she expected to see as he barged into her bedchamber.
“Am I her keeper?”
Ozai grabbed her by the arm and pulled her from the mirror where she admired her presence. His face became marred with violence. His grip bit into her arm and Azula winced and fought against him. Ozai yanked harder on her and pulled her into his chest. He bared his teeth as he spoke his will to her.
“You are as I say you are. You will hunt that little menace down and kill her. She will not complicate my plans any longer. I do not wish to hear her footsteps behind me at every turn. You will help me defeat your brother.”
He pushed her away and Azula stumbled back. She glared at him for a moment and then a smile returned to her lips. “What will I receive for my help?”
Ozai chuckled at her question. She was of his blood. Unlike her brother, her first thought was of herself. He knew he could always depend on her to do whatever he needed done if it meant a reward for her hard work. She would track down the earth bender and burn her to the ground before long if her reward was worthy.
“Whatever your heart desires shall be your reward.”
Azula walked towards the mirror again and looked at her reflection. For too long the monk had ruled her life and taken away her birthright. The world ridiculed her. Neither feared nor sought after by suitors since the monk arrived Azula resented him. He had destroyed her life. She wanted to destroy his.
She pondered her request for a few more minutes before turning to her father. With a sneer on her face, she pronounced her desire.
“I want the head of the monk fastened to the wall and his blood smeared on the bottom of my feet.”
Ozai chuckled again and bowed his head. “Your desire shall be granted but you must have patience my daughter. Upon my return from the Earth Lord Feng, we shall begin our attack and take back what is ours.”
What did Feng know about the monk? Toph thought as she listened to those inside Azula’s room snickering and planning her death as well. She heard their approaching footsteps and decided to return to the monk and tell him of Ozai’s impending visit to Long Feng.
She would have to be very careful now that she knew Azula committed herself to tracking down. She was relentless but Toph was as well. There no way she would let them harm Zuko or Iroh without a fight.
