~~~~~~~ Main floor dining hall~~~~~~~~
Katara’s situation became even worse when Zuko decided that he needed to sit in the middle of the table instead of the end. Of course, the middle meant he would sit beside her. She could hear the grumbling from the other women as the Emperor walked behind the other seated guests towards the empty chair beside her.
Kwan glared at the almost fearful looking Water maiden as she searched for an escape. If she did not wish to be here then why did she come? She would be her biggest competition. Kwan noticed how the Emperor looked at her, rather stared at her with his golden gaze. None of them would have any chance as long as Katara was here. She could get some of the others to help her get rid of the Emperor’s favorite and then blame everything the others and keep her hands clean.
Kwan turned her gaze towards the Emperor as he walked behind her chair. He was magnificent in the dark blue robes of royalty covering the white tops and bottoms he wore. His gaze fixed on her enemy and did not waver. His shoulder length black hair flew out from his body as the rhythm of his step increased when Xin fu leaned over to whisper to Katara. She could see the muscles of his body moving in concert with his steps. Kwan felt a tingle run through her body as part of his robe touched her shoulder as he pass by her chair.
Katara looked up at Zuko as one of the guards in the hall pulled out his chair. He stared down at her as he slowly sat down. He could feel her quickening breaths and see her trembling in anger and fear at what he planned on doing. The truth was he did not know himself. His actions resulted from Xin fu’s touch of her skin. He did not like it.
Katara looked down at her plate as he continued to stare at her. Zuko’s eyes traveled down her body.
“You are beautiful in this color.” His voice was matter of factly as he spoke to her.
“She made a wise choice Emperor.” Xin fu’s voice garnered Zuko’s glare.
He was not her advisor yet he acted as such. Azula found his wisdom in matters dealing with the Earth Kingdom to her liking that was the only reason he allowed him here. He never trusted Xin fu and his slyness. He was far too quiet to be a bold Earth bender. Most of them did not like him. Zuko was starting to lean that way.
They were all angry with her because he was sitting beside her. Suki smiled at her with one of those glad I am not you look but the others wanted to hurt her. Katara could feel it. Anger welled inside of her. He knew they would react this way and wanted them to harm her. She could think of no other reason for his need to be next to her.
Katara’s blue gaze upon him pulled Zuko from his thoughts of harming her new advisor. She had anger in her eyes and that made him smile. He loved … no reveled in drawing emotions from her.
“Let the meal began” Azula’s voice filled the hall as the servants began to fill the table with foods. The guests smiled at the delicious aromas filling their senses.
“All of the best will be at your fingertips Katara.” Zuko’s voice was in her ear as he leaned close to her.
“What do you consider to be the best Emperor; your presence?” Her voice was low so only he could hear her.
Zuko grunted in her ear. “Your defiance is admirable but wasted here. I only want you strong so that you last until the end.”
“Why don’t you just send me home?”
Zuko moved away from her and began pulling the savory meat from the pheasant before him and placing it on Katara’s plate. He remembered that she loved this meat from their time together however unpleasant it was.
Katara tried to hide her amazement that he remembered but failed and smiled at him.
Suddenly a glass of wine appeared before her. Katara turned her attention from Zuko and towards Xin fu who nodded at her. “This will help wash the taste from your palate so you do not destroy the taste of the other dishes.”
Zuko moved the wine. “I have selected a more subtle wine for her; one that is not as intoxicating as this.”
Xin fu nodded to the Emperor. “Your wisdom far exceeds mine Emperor.”
Zuko glared at the bowed head of the advisor. “So does my power.”
A server set the wine beside Katara and she thanked him. She looked around the table to see some of the women from the ship staring at her with hate. She did not need to be intoxicated with these women ready to attack her.
Katara was too busy worrying about which one of the women would try to attack her to notice the soft battle between the two men sitting beside her. Xin fu turned away to his plate preferring to fight within the shadows until he was sure he could achieve ultimate victory. While Zuko had already planned to have a small talk with Azula’s advisor and if he did not like what he heard there would be violence.
~~~~~~~~~~~~ Toph’s room~~~~~~~~
She could no longer feel the ground anymore. She whimpered against his lips, as the kiss seemed to last for hours making her body tingle from head to toe. Her hands found their way around his neck and his grip tightened pulling her harder against his body.
She came here for him. Sokka was sure of it. They way her body melted onto his and the softness of her lips on his proved all he thought was true. Toph did want him.
A light knock on the door told him that his time with Toph was over for now and that the recent prisoners required his assistance. He began pulling away from her lips and lowering her to the ground. She was unstable on her own feet and he sat her on her bed. He kneeled before her and watched her recover from his kiss smiling at her.
Toph slowly pulled her arms from around his neck until her hands touched the sides of his face. Sokka closed his eyes as her small warm hands explored his smiling face. Toph frowned.
“Why are you smiling?”
“You came here for me. I know that Toph.”
She pulled her hands away as if burned. “I did not come here for you.”
Sokka laughed as he stood. “Katara would never come here and you and I both know that but she would do anything for you. And you Toph, wanted to see me.”
She stood ready to deny his words but the warrior grabbed his helmet from the bed and pulled her again against his hard body as his lips crushed hers in a hard kiss. Toph whimpered and wilted against his assault. Just as quickly, he released her and walked towards the door opening it slightly. His friend stood there waiting for him. Sokka placed on his helmet looking back at Toph who was now sitting on her bed again.
She heard the door close and fell back onto her bed letting a small moan escape her lips as her body tingled remembering his kiss. His words came flooding back to her but not for the reasons Sokka wanted. Toph bolted upwards on the bed.
“Katara,”

What did he want and why was he being so different than he was this morning? Katara set down her glass and watched him from the corner of her eye.
“So tell us what is it like in a Water tribe village?”
Katara looked up from her plate and towards the earth general’s wife. She was an older woman with a gentle face to match her voice. Katara smiled at her.
“It is like no other place in this world. Everything is fresh and pure. The sound of the ocean crashing against the rocks at night is the most beautiful thing I have ever heard. Your friendships that you make there last a lifetime.”
“Why stay with Toph then and not go back?” Kwan sneered at her.
Katara turned in the other direction and looked at Kwan with a smile on her face. “Toph is my family and I will not abandon her.”
Kwan placed a smile on her lips as she spoke. “Why not she abandoned you?”
She walked as fast as she could towards the Main floor-dining hall. The sounds and a good memory of Fu’s directions, guided her to the hall from her room. She heard unfamiliar footsteps coming towards her in a sneaking manner. Toph could feel the ground beneath the floor she stood on.
“Where are you going?”
She knew the voice. It was Meng.
“Why do you need to know?”
Meng frowned at the short blind woman as she approached with the knife behind her back. What did Sokka want with her?
“You do know that Sokka and I are seeing each other. He just likes to pretend that we are not.”
Toph slightly turned her head hearing the sound of something Meng was fidgeting with in her hands, possibly behind her back.“Is everyone else pretending too?”
Meng brought the knife forward as she approached. “You can not go in the hall.”
Toph frowned hearing the second object rub against the first object in Meng’s hands. “I’m all for going through you.”
Meng came closer smiling at the shorter woman. “It will not be that easy.”
Kwan watched the Water maiden’s smile slowly drift from her face as the others at the table became interested in where her advisor was. Heat filled her body as embarrassment took over.
Sudden screaming from outside in the courtyard got everyone’s attention off Katara and towards the windows. The guest vacated their seats and went to see what the commotion was. Katara followed the Emperor and Xin fu towards the window.
One of the rebels had escaped his bonds and tried to make it out of the castle. Xin fu prepared to stop him but Zuko held up his hand.
“Give me the bow.”
One of the guards handed him a black bow and one black arrow. It was a beautiful weapon and strung very tightly; one would have to have tremendous strength to bend it. Zuko looked at Katara as he set the arrow in place.
What would her reaction be if he killed this man? He drew back the bowstring, aimed, and then released it. The arrow flew through the air and into the right ankle of the fleeing man. A scream of horrific pain filled the courtyard. Zhao’s men came to claim the injured man and bowed to the Emperor still in the window.
Her reaction was unreadable. Zuko frowned. He gently took her hand and felt her tremble with fear and probably revulsion that he was touching her again.
“I need to speak with you alone.”
Kwan smiled seeing the displeasure on the Emperor’s face as the guests moved so he could take Katara towards the opposite doors.
His grip was tight on her hand as he led her towards the doors. She was sure he wanted to humiliate her in private this time for reasons she did not understand. At that very moment the doors opened and they walked through them she wished she were an Airbender.
