Crys stood in the kitchen staring moodily out the window. "You must really hate me." She told the Beni. "But then again I wouldn't blame you."
"Why would I hate you?" he draped his arm around her shoulders.
"Because I almost succeeded in killing your...brother. But he asked for it...for him to touch me by Sh'iar law I would have been within my rights to kill him." She sighed.
"I know...and I'm glad you did not. However, I do know that he oversteps the mark with you…and says nasty things too..." his brow furrowed.
"He does Lumar...he really does...Now he is turning Tee-Lara against me." Crys turned her head to one side while an idea spun through her head. "Lumar...you would do anything for me wouldn't you..."
"You know I would...my heart dictates it..."
"Protect me from Schwenk...I-I'm afraid that...he will hurt me...I don't want him to turn you against me....I love you."
"Protect?" he enquired. "How? You look after yourself pretty well..." he shrugged.
Damn it...Crys swore to herself--she tried a different strategy. "Yes...physically I can take care of myself...but mentally...his verbal attacks...it hurts me Lumie...Don't you care?"
"Of course I do, but...he hasn't said anything recently.....has he?"
The she-cat pulled away slightly from the tiger. "We had some words earlier which caused me to leave the flat...He said I contribute nothing to the relationship...That I would break your heart and he would be there to mend the pieces...It hurt me deeply."
"WHAT??!" a deep growl rumbled. "Why didn't you tell me sooner?"
Crys shook her head. "I couldn't...h-he is your brother...I thought it would be his word against mine...I'm sorry..." The she-cat allowed a tear to fall and she sniffled. "I can't help being what I am...I...I can't"
"How should I deal with this, Crys...you tell me..." he was angry as he watched his mate cry.
She grabbed up his large hands in hers. "I'll leave it up to you Lumie...I trust you and your judgment." Crys gave his hands a squeeze. "If you want to make our pairing official...I am ready and willing..."
"Wha...really??" The Beni gasped.
She nodded. "Only if it is what you want."
"Of course it is..." he beamed. "But.....ah damn it to hell...Schwenk is bothering me now!"
"Lumar...if I do agree to this, you know it means we will be mated for life...A pairing with a Sh'iar means that you can have no other woman other than me...I will always be faithful to you and you alone." Crys returned Lumar's smile as it also would mean that Schwenk could not make her leave. "If this is what you want, don't let Schwenk get in the way of our happiness."
"I won't...you are my life....it appears he has his..." Lumar nodded. "But....we can consummate later...I'm...well...still hungry..." he blushed.
"No worries...I have something special here that I am making for you...it's called New Thundera Fried Micrits and blood pudding!"
He licked his lips noisily. "Oh yeah, my stomach will deal with those micrits in a flash!!" and as if it agreed his stomach gurgled loudly.
Crys heard his stomach too and laughed. "Go in the dining room and wait...I'll have it ready for you in a few minutes." She pushed him out of the kitchen.
Gaston held her hand as they stood at the ornate gate welcoming them to 'Little Siberia'. "I have to confess, I'm a little....nervous..."
Tee-Lara had her arm looped around Schwenk's. "There's no need for you to be nervous...You are out with the most beautiful Siberian tigress in all of New Thundera!" She giggled.
"True...but you know...Siberians have a reputation....with humans....people will see us and assume you've brought a packed lunch!"
"Nonsense! They will say who is that handsome human hanging onto the Siberian tigress over there? Gaston...you smell like a tiger...if anything people will be confused by your scent."
He chuckled. "I know I am...so does that mean if I run out you'll be peeing on me?"
"If I pee on you it will attract the wrong type of attention...men will be lured to your scent and be confused!"
"They'd be confused and I'd be flattened!"
Tee-Lara giggled remembering Lumar and Crys. "Gods yes!" She pointed spying a boutique that specialized in shoes. "Gaston may we go in there?"
"Go on then..." he smiled.
She pulled him along into the Shoppe; the walls were lined with various styles of shoes. "You choose Gaston...which one do you like?"
"No, no...You choose..." he smiled "...and if I don't like them I'll say 'no'..." he teased. The tigress gave the human a friendly poke and surveyed the collection. After about fifteen minutes, Tee-Lara selected a pair of blood red kitten heeled pumps; the clerk retrieved the correct size for her and she pranced up and down the carpet in front of Schwenk. "What do you think?"
"Very glamorous!" he admired them "and it doesn't add too much to your height either..."
"Well, you did say that I didn't need anything to make me taller..." She beamed proudly. "Do you like them? Please say you do!"
"No...I love them!!" he said sincerely.
Tee-Lara flung her arms around Schwenk's throat nearly throttling him. "Oh you are wonderful Gaston!"
"I know, I know...OK, you want anything else?"
"In here? No...But I have to find a dress to match the shoes."
"OK then....you go to the dress store, I'll pay up here...OK?"
"Will you be all right by yourself?" She asked frowning.
"Sure thing...go on...go and try something nice on..."
"Okay...the dress Shoppe is next door...I'll see you in a bit." Tee-Lara swooshed out of the store like a whirlwind; Schwenk shook his head chuckling to himself.
He took the box to the counter to pay. "We're taking these please..." Schwenk said to the large Siberian behind the counter.
“Of course sir...that will be 200 Thunderian dollars." The clerk sniffed indifferently; the bell above the Shoppe door tinkled; no one bothered to look up to see who had entered.
“Two hundred..." he puffed his cheeks and counted out four of Argo's fifties.
A shadow fell over Schwenk as he paid, "Buying shoes for the little lady I see." The deep voice commented. "How very sweet."
"Wha..." he swung around into shadow.
The Tiglon placed a hand on Schwenk's shoulder. "Take it easy there...finish paying for your purchase."
He gulped and duly did so. The box was wrapped and Schwenk was 'free to go'....well, from the shop at least.
Argo smiled through the dark shades he wore; he was casually dressed, his military attire replaced with civilian clothing and a hat. "I was in the neighborhood and just happened to see you...How are you doing Schwenk?"
"Oh....wonderfully apart from that psycho bitch who blights my life!"
"Hmmmm Crystalandra? How is she? She's a difficult one to locate these days." The Tiglon casually noted walking the human out of the Shoppe. "Did you pass my message on to her?"
"Of course! She tried to kill me earlier...but I guess we shouldn't be surprised." Schwenk got angry and jabbed his finger at Argo. "She's your responsibility! Take her back!!"
“Truthfully Schwenk that is something I cannot do...How can I take back someone who has been thrown out of the order?" He shrugged. "She is operating under her own agenda..."
"...and you know what that means for me!!" he snarled. "Help me!!"
Argo walked in silence beside the human, "There is nothing that I can do per se; however, the only thing you could do to protect yourself Schwenk is to turn her in...Surrender her to her cousin Lion-O--by doing that your arse will surely be safe."
"Really? But...won't he be upset we've known about her all this time?"The Tiglon rolled his eyes. "Do it anonymously...use that superior brain of yours Schwenk! I'm sure you'll find a way to turn her over to him...In that way you have eliminated a problem that is a thorn in both our side. Lion-O will no doubt have her executed...voila...end of issue."
"...and you're OK with this? Her execution, I mean!"
"Why wouldn't I be? Crystalandra means nothing to me...she will just be another casualty of war." Argo smiled brightly. "...and think of it Schwenk, you will be safe…no longer would you have the trouble of having to watch your back."
"Remind me not to upset you..." he paused, "Why don't you anonymously tip off the lion king? In fact...you Sh’iars are so bloody powerful you deal with this mess! You're meant to be great warriors, assassins, blah, blah, blah...you deal with it...or...are you not really that dangerous?"
"All I will say Schwenk is that it is a matter of...politics." He glanced up at the dress Shoppe sign. "I believe this is where we part company...for now...You still have not reported anything of intrigue that is happening at the Cat's Lair."
"No..." came the simple response. "I've got my own problems!"
Argo's pale blue eyes glittered dangerously. "We all have our own little problems Schwenk...In your case I would suggest that you deal with it quickly...Just a friendly warning." He turned on his heel and left.
"Arsehole!" he muttered and looked into the shop. "Hope she's having a better time..." he sighed.
Tee-Lara had a heap of dresses, fifty in all draped over a chair that she had been systematically trying on, when she saw Schwenk, she waved frantically to him. "Gaston--what took you so long? I can't make up my mind which dress to get...please help me!"
He walked in. "Wow....a lot of fabric....of course, you would look stunning in black....chic, classic, classy!"
"Black?" The tigress asked rifling through the discarded dresses. "Wait...I'll try this one on and you tell me if you like this." She yanked the dress off she was currently wearing much to Schwenk's shock and amazement. "What? Oh...no one cares about nudity..." And quickly shimmied into a body hugging black dress.
"I think it's a shame to hide your nudity..." he smirked, "Hmmm....wonderful....good enough to eat!"
"Gaston!" Tee-Lara stamped her foot laughing. "I'm serious here...what do you think of this dress?"
"It's great....suits you very well..."
"Oh thank you..." She slipped out of the dress into her regular clothing: she turned to the attendant. "I'll take this dress."
"How much is that?" Schwenk asked.
"Don't worry about that...I'm paying for it...You were generous enough to purchase the shoes. At least let me get this."
"Oh....erm....are you sure??"
Tee-Lara kissed Schwenk. "Of course...save the money for the restaurant--I'm starving!"
He laughed."Come on then piggy-wig..." he teased.
