Chapter 35: Interrogation
Dib sat on the edge of the bunk, his face buried in his hands. He’d broken down and sobbed for a good half hour after he called Zim, and he’d only just stopped a few minutes ago. His only consolation was that he wasn’t going to be in prison long…he’d probably die with the rest of his pathetic race when Zim let loose with the nukes he was about to get a hold of.
He hadn’t lied when he said he was going to miss Zim. In fact, it was what he hadn’t said that he regretted most.
Dib had feelings for the arrogant bastard. He sighed heavily. Here he was in prison, probably doomed to die with the rest of humanity, and he was in love with the arrogant stuck up prick of an Invader who was going to be the one to wipe them all out.
Man, he was royally fucked in the head.
Dib stiffened when the cell door opened and an officer stepped in with his file, his eyes narrowed.
“Dib Membrane?”
He scowled. “Yeah.”
“Come with me.” The officer growled, grabbing him by the scruff of the neck and hauling him into the interrogation room. “SIT.” He shoved the boy into the chair, then went around to the other side of the table and sat down, scowling at him.
“All right, this is where we’re going to start.” The officer flipped through the file. “The night you bombed the Off-White House and the Octagon, you had an accomplice. There were two vessels, one of which we brought down.” The officer met Dib’s eyes, his own burning with detestation. “Who was your accomplice?”
Dib laughed bitterly, his face still swollen from crying. “You actually think I’d tell YOU?”
The officer’s eyes narrowed dangerously. “Oh, you’re going to tell me. I’ve never had a criminal I couldn’t break.”
Dib shrugged, leaning back and putting his feet up on the table. “The Earth will be a smoldering heap long before you get anything out of me.”
The scowl on the officer’s face darkened, and he slapped Dib’s feet off of the desk, standing up and looming over him. “You’re going to lose the attitude right NOW, or I’ll beat it out of you, kid.”
“You can’t do that.”
“Can’t I?” The officer grinned, grabbing him by the front of his shirt and hauling him up until they were nose-to-nose. “Are you willing to bet on that? Because I’m not.” He threw Dib to the ground and kicked him hard in the stomach.
Dib gasped for air, coughing and doubling over. Okay, so maybe he could get the crap beaten out of him. Man, that sucked.
“Now, tell me…who was with you that night? Who was in the other craft?”
“Your mother.” Dib growled under his breath.
The officer kicked him in the stomach again, then hauled him up and backhanded him across the face, holding him up on his feet.
Dib grimaced, blood trailing from one corner of his mouth.
“You…” he coughed, “…you honestly think this is gonna make me talk?” He clenched his teeth. “Go fuck yourself.” Dib let out a low grunt when he was punched in the stomach, coughing again.
“I’ve been authorized to use whatever techniques I want to get the information out of you, you little slimeball.” The officer grinned. “And I intend to use them. You’re going to rat out your little friend before the night is up.”
Dib was panting heavily, blood dripping from his chin. “I am…an ally…of…the Empire…” he grinned weakly, coughing. “And you…can go and—” he coughed again, blood spattering the officer’s uniform. “…fuck yourself.”
He was tossed to the ground and kicked again, this time in the chest.
Dib lay on the ground, panting heavily, his arms wrapped around himself as he coughed and gasped for air, blood dripping from his mouth. He was picked up and shoved face-first against the wall, one arm wrenched up in the middle of his back. Dib bit back a cry, sweat breaking out on his forehead as the pain jolted through his body. Great, now the guy was going to break his arm. Talk about police brutality…
“Tell me who your accomplice is.” The officer tugged Dib’s arm up higher between his shoulder blades.
Dib gasped sharply as the pain shot through his ribcage, and he pressed his forehead against the cold wall, gritting his teeth. “Go to hell.” He hissed, clenching his eyes closed, trying to prepare for what he knew was coming.
The officer punched him hard in the small of his back and then turned him around, grabbing him by the throat and pulling his gun out, pressing it into the underside of Dib’s jaw. “You’ve got one more chance, Membrane.” There was a grinding click as the weapon was cocked. “Tell me who your accomplice was or you’re going to be going out of here in a body bag.” The officer tightened his grip.
Coughing and spitting out a little of the blood in his mouth, he leered maniacally at the officer as his vision started to get fuzzy around the edges. “Bring it on. I’d LOVE for you to kill me.”
The officer paused, then nodded, releasing him and stepping back, putting the gun away. He grabbed Dib’s file and dragged the boy out of the interrogation room, through the building and out to a cruiser, opening the passenger’s side door and roughly throwing Dib in, locking the door and slamming it shut before coming around the other side and climbing in.
Dib looked around, frowning in confusion, his arms wrapped tightly around his aching body. “Where are you taking me?”
The officer just grinned and shook his head. “Home.”
As the cruiser sped out of the parking lot, Dib blinked at the driver in absolute shock.
“Zim?”
