Disclaimer: I do not own Gargoyles/Disney related but the original character, Eve Anderson, is from my own mind and is not a character of Disney. I get no pay and am only doing this for fun |
He stands by the car, waiting patiently for the girls to arrive. He knew the moment he stepped out in his usual chauffer clothes and brought the car around that he was asking for trouble. The sound of their laughter announces their arrival. He looks up and nearly steps towards her from overwhelming desire. She smiles at him shyly, gently touching his hand as he opens the car door for them. Elise and Fox grab her arms, dragging her into the car.
“Leave the help alone before you make him unable to drive from lust.” Fox laughs as the door closes behind them. “Fox!” Eve rolls her eyes. “Seriously? I’m sure he has better things to think about than that.” Fox lifts a brow and grins. “Owen, could you take us to Ansleby’s Café? Eve has not had breakfast yet.” His eyes narrow in the rearview mirror and glance in Eve’s direction. “Oh course, Mrs. Xanatos.” Fox leans back in her seat and smiles at her, whispering. “See? Even that little remark got a reaction. Good thing we’re taking you to eat or he’d take you himself.” “Don’t worry.” Elise nudges her with a shoulder. “We won’t let him drool and look like a fool out in public.” He tries to tune out the good natured ribbing Eve is getting, knowing their relationship will be on the forefront of everyone’s mind for the time being. His lips twitch up every now and then, their barbs amusing him. When they reach the café, he opens the door for them and gently strokes her hand with his thumb as he gives her hand out of the car. She blushes, grinning at him as she steps away to follow the girls into the café. When they come back out, he is leaning against the car waiting on them. He opens the door again, helping them inside before stepping around and getting in himself. He glances back at them in the rearview mirror and winks at her as she looks up at him. She blushes again, amusing him even more. He drives them to Fox’s favorite clothing store, knowing they will be in there for at least the next 2 hours. He tries his best not to imagine the kinds of clothes she will be trying on as he lets them out of the car again. Fox stops and turns back to him as they reach the door to the store. “Owen, you know how long I usually am here. Do your usual security checks. We’ll be out before lunch.” He watches Eve blink in confusion and tries to keep from smiling when she asks how long they plan on being there as they walk inside. He gets back inside the car and finds a parking place nearby where he can see the entrance. Once settles, he pulls out his phone and a table, pulling up camera footage inside the store. Fox knew that telling him to do his usual ‘security checks’ meant he would have his eyes everywhere inside and outside the store. He could see them walking towards the shoe dept as well as all the clerks milling around. He pulls up the store’s website in another window and begins to shop as Eve tries things on. If he can see on her face she really wants something but puts it in the ‘do no buy’ pile, he orders it online for her and has it shipped to the castle. He knows it is only a matter of time before he can convince her to move into the castle with him and he wants everything ready for when she does. She never realized how much fun she could have shopping with Fox and Elise. Shopping was always a necessary evil she had to do when it was time to replace old worn out clothes before anyone noticed she had worn them past their prime. After the 3rd argument, she just let Fox buy whatever she wanted so long as it didn’t go against what Eve thought was fashionable. By the time they were done buying shoes, outfits, and jewelry, it was well past noon and her stomach was beginning to growl. Fox and Elise laughed when they heard it, conceding it was time to stop for lunch. When they walked out to the car, she couldn’t help but smile at Owen as he stood by the car waiting for them. She tries not to laugh as he quickly winks at her and opens the door. “Should I take you to your usual restaurant, Mrs. Xanatos?” Fox gives an evil grin. “Of course! I’m sure Eve can handle it.” Eve stops and glares at her. “What does that mean?” Elise grins and slides into the car. “It means you get to sing for our lunch. Let’s go!” She eyes Owen warily. “Are they serious?” “Quite.” He takes her hand and leads her to the door. “You have a beautiful voice. You can do this.” She settles down in the seat and sighs. “Fine. Let’s get the new torture over with.” She eyes the restaurant warily as they walk up to the host’s podium. The woman standing at the podium smiles warmly at Fox, pulling three menus out. “Just 3 of you?” “No, four.” Eve glares at Fox. “If I’m doing this then Owen gets to eat as well.” Fox lifts a brow. “He’s supposed to be our security for the day. How can he do that sitting with us?” Elise glances around and shrugs. “He can see the whole room from that table over there and it’s near the door. I agree with Eve. He needs to eat at some point.” The hostess watches in confusion. “Will anyone be singing today?” Eve slightly pales from stage fright. “What do you get for a song?” The hostess brightens, grinning. “For every song you get a free meal.” “Then I will be singing 4 songs.” Eve smiles evilly at Fox. “He deserves a free meal.” “Excellent!” The hostess waves them inside. “When the fourth person in your party arrives, I will show them to the table you indicated.” They follow her inside and settle down at a table. Eve eyes Fox until she finally sighs and texts Owen to come inside. After a quick glance at the menu, Eve orders and then stands, quietly making her way to the karaoke stage. Owen glances down at his phone, frowning as he sees a text from Fox. He opens it and his frown deepens. Come inside and eat before Eve throws a fit. He sighs and gets out of the car, making his way to the entrance. His eyes scan the area as he gets closer, taking note of every person within the immediate area. When he reaches the podium, the hostess smiles at him and leads him to the table in the corner by the door. He immediately starts to relax, realizing Elise would’ve picked this spot for him. He scans the room, his eyes fastening on Eve up at the stage. She is talking quietly with a nervous man on the stage with her, smiling reassuringly at him. He sees her queue something up and take her place at the microphone next to the man. He didn’t know what he was expecting but Christina Perri’s ‘Distance’ was not the song he thought she would sing. He feels the song overwhelm him as she closes her eyes and throws herself into it. She finally opens her eyes as the song begins to end, spearing him with her gaze. How long til we call this love? Love? Love? He can’t look away and she immediately goes into ‘Dark Side’ by Kelly Clarkson. He can feel the words burying themselves into his heart as if she is saying it to him. Then she sings ‘Try’ by Pink, closing her eyes again and allowing him a moment to steady himself again. It’s when she begins to sing ‘Glitter in the air’ by Pink that his breath catches again. Have you ever fed a lover with just your hand? Closed your eyes and trusted? Just trusted? Have you ever thrown a fistful of glitter in the air? Have you ever looked fear in the face and said ‘I just don’t care’? He asks for his meal to be boxed, the words almost moving him to tears. He tries to calm himself, his face losing all emotion. He gathers the box to him and waits until the song is nearly over before leaving for the car. He stops long enough to look back at her as she sings the last phrasing, catching her eyes again. Have you ever wished for an endless night? Lassoed the moon and the stars and pulled that rope tight? Have you ever held your breath and asked yourself ‘Will it ever get better than tonight’? Tonight? He gives her a small bow, smiling softly at her before turning to leave. While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
